ok just a pedantic thing but I love poker and the movie thing where people always say like “I see your 5,000 bet and RAISE you 10,000” they don’t actually do that in poker and the first part is redundant bc ppl announce a raise and that by itself is an indication that you want the pot more than whatever the person bet ik you were just joking though but I just wanted to explain that

Your cost basis in currency is the same value as the currency being spent, so there would be no gains to report. Gains are calculated based on the value of the item being exchanged less the cost basis. Similar thing happens with barter exchanges. As a simple example, if I purchase a car worth $10K, and five years later it has gone up in value to where I can exchange that for a valuable watch worth $12,000 (based on market assessed value), I am required to pay capital gains on $2,000, despite never having had currency in my possession. If I'm a currency trader, I'm also subject to capital gains. If I buy 10K EUR from USD at 1:.80, I spent $12,500 USD. That exchange establishes my cost basis (1.25 USD per EUR). If I later sell that EUR to convert it back to USD, I have triggered a possible gain/loss transaction. Let's say I only sell 5,000EUR, at a rate of 1:.75, Netting $6,666.67USD. My cost basis is $6,250 (5000/.8), requiring a capital gain of $416.67. The remaining 5,000 EUR still has a cost basis of $6,666.66. I did make one mistake in my initial comment - though the rules for recognizing capital gains **amounts** are the same, the taxation **rates** for currency are not - Publication 525 details the short/long term split percentages for currency which do differ from traditional assets. If the IRS did treat crypto as currency, that may have an effect to either **LOWER** or **RAISE**, depending on the length of holding the currency. My opinion is that ultimately, treating it as a currency is both unlikely, and especially bad for miners. As a currency, I do not know whether you could deduct the cost of mining as a legitimate cost basis, as it would not be treated as an asset. I understand that FOREX transaction fees are considered business expenses, NOT cost basis adjustments, and therefore you would owe taxes on the entire initial use/sale of any crypto. I recognize this is a longer post, but this only covers a fraction of the overall determination needed for this asset class - and my personal opinion is that the IRS treating it as a currency is almost entirely BAD for crypto.

Agreed everything is gonna moon we are at 1% value of the true potential for all these coins. Once 🇺🇸 starts regulating all it will do is make it more popular then stock market. Because the best market is one where you can make money all day. Even banks don't want you to put your money there because they see the potential to lose a financial system they built to trap us. Invest in crypto especially coins that have the potential to double or triple when bitcoin hits its 50 k this week like COS AMP SKL. IF NOONE SOLD FOR JUST ONE DAY AND MADE NOTHING BUT BUYS THE MARKET WOULD RAISE 25%. Incase noone has done the math its correct.

Here’s an idea. Rather than restrict and lessen the incentive for certain contributions, RAISE the incentive for the contributions the sub deems worthwhile by vote.

"The EIP is close to be integrated in ETH, this will lower the mining rewards" This is complete speculation. Literally no one actually knows what will happen. It could do absolutely nothing. It could RAISE profits. We do not know, and anyone that says they do, is LYING.

This is the most ignorant and arrogant piece ive read in a while. Im all for TRUE fair tax but neither party will do it...and theres only one party trying to LOWER taxes and the other trying to RAISE taxes. Theres one party spending extravagant amounts of money, theres the other saying ''heeeyyy woah there, do you know what a budget means?'' But hey, our system is literally built on debt, so maybe the dems are onto something

Jesus, what a sad way to look at life. > Look, I lived through 2008, and now 2020, and I was raised on tales of the stagflation crisis. I'm WAY beyond taking the idea that the rich will raise up people around them seriously, in *any* context. this in particular. 'THEY WONT RAISE ME IF THEY INCREASE DEMAND FOR MY ASSET, I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT!!!!111' come on.
