As of this post, this project currently has roughly a $235m Market Cap and just surpassed 20,000 holders a few days ago! # Shiba Inu - a stale joke Shiba Inu is a decentralized meme-coin protocol that runs on the Ethereum network as an ERC-20 token. To add onto this, while DOGE may be a household name amongst most Americans, only a tiny fraction of these people would have ever heard of SHIB. After all, why do they need to know about Shiba Inu when Dogecoin fills the gap? * Ultimately, SHIB's unoriginality is a significant factor that stifles its possible organic growth in the future. ​ # Lack of a native blockchain * From their [official website,](https://shibatoken.com/) and I quote, "from its inception, Shiba Inu has done things differently." Can SHIB really afford to lose their investments? * Compare SHIB to Dogecoin in this regard. * Yes, both coins share a similar transaction time. Something is afoot here. ​ # Dodgy & illegal dealings * [This is what the SHIB website looked like in October 2020](https://web.archive.org/web/20201024062132/https://www.shibatoken.com/), when it was first released. Not too bad for a new project, but not amazing either. But what's this? It mentions a website, [leashdoge.com](https://leashdoge.com). That's strange - it doesn't exist any more and was never promoted by the team. * This is where the [trusty web archive](https://web.archive.org/web/20201026133743/https://www.leashdoge.com/) helps us again. Looking at the source code, it can be seen that a company, [haytech.ir](https://haytech.ir), was involved in the development of that site. * Going back to the old SHIB site, there was a promotional video that [closely matches](https://shibaexposed.wordpress.com/) the one on Haytech's site. Now, there's no doubt that the two are involved together. * Here's the kicker - Haytech's IP address has been ***blacklisted due to illegal dealings,*** which springs doubts that SHIB may be involved too. * On top of that, [it has been proven](https://shibaexposed.wordpress.com/) that SHIB has direct links to Damecoins, an online crypto exchange that is [widely regarded as a scam](https://np.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/i2yhnq/does_anyone_here_use_damecoinscom/). * If even half the SHIB community knew about these links, it's guaranteed that the token would have been defunct as I write this. Still, props to the team for expertly covering up their criminal connections. ​ # No, sending half the token's supply to Vitalik is NOT a burn * The creator of Shiba Inu [claims to have “burned”](https://shibatoken.com/) half the total supply of SHIB by sending it to a wallet address controlled by Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin. * However, this is not burning in the traditional sense as the coins are still available. * Notably, the value of the SHIB tokens sent to Vitalik was as high as $15 billion at one point, completely dwarfing the value of the 330,000 ETH tokens he also holds. * The repercussions of this move came on May 12, 2021, when Vitalik sent over 50 trillion SHIB worth $1 billion to a fund to help combat the spread of COVID-19 in India. * At the same time, he also pulled 90% of SHIB liquidity from Uniswap. Buterin’s actions caused a [multi-day move that sent the SHIB token 50% lower.](https://www.coinbureau.com/review/shiba-inu/) Oops. * Vitalik still owns a large amount of SHIB, which remains a massive risk to the price of the token. ​ All in all, the disadvantages of SHIB serve to show how deceptive their team can be in fooling their loyal followers & how their technical attributes are rather unremarkable.
