I stopped with my ROTH IRA when I decided to stay in the Army instead of get out. In three years I will get 50% of Lieutenant Colonel pay then any disability from three deployments to AFG and getting a Purple Heart. I buy a share of VOO a month then a share of LMT, PLTR, and NVDA. Then I also have 7500 shares of HUMA that are busting my balls right now. The science is great already have FDA approval but slow sales for the first product. Hopefully dialysis approval gets it moving back in the right direction.
Iran isn't going to let the US walk away without serious concessions. But guess what happens to rooftop solar and EV demand when fuel and electricity prices go up? He hates environmentalism, but guess what happens to greenhouse gases when nobody can afford to go anywhere? He loves farmers in red states who overwhelmingly voted for him, but guess what his trade war did to farm futures and what happened USDA got DOGEd and couldn't process federal aid claims? A 46% spike in small farm bankruptcies under Trump. He hated Iran having the resources to pose a larger economic, military, and diplomatic threat, but guess what's going to happen when he backs out of this? And if he doesn't back out, this will be just like Iraq and AFG except bigger, with less NATO-OTAN support, and way less support at home. The dude is literally Zap Brannigan. Except when it comes to crypto ponzi schemes and insider trading. He's really good at that.

We have had no strategic vision since WW2. Tactically superior, advanced in tech and power, yes. Politically the US hasn't done so well in spreading democracy to the rest of the globe. Example: the Taliban still rules AFG and it's not all on 46.

As an analyst, I've loved Palantir. The only functional issue it has is...they SUCK as teaching it to users. FSRs try, but there's never enough of them. I hated it until I got "field cert'd" (deployed to AFG) on it...and I never met another person in-country who knew everything it could do. With AI growth, it'll be able to eat and spit out charts and products easy for any industry. Building the hardware setup is always slow and time consuming though. I think one day they could be as big as Tesla, but I'm no expert.

Thoughts on AFG? Insurance conglomerate based out of Cincinnati. Returned $12 in special dividends last year + normal dividend amount. So just over $14. Management seems committed to maximizing shareholder value and returning capital. Thought?
When you say bailout the bank, what exactly do you mean. For example numerous small banks in the area where I lived were technically insolvent in 2008-2009. They carried huge amounts of underwater and uncollectible loans on their books. I’ll give you one example: Wakulla State Bank. A lady bought a riverfront house for $465k in cash in 2007. As the market started to tank, she got one of those 80% home equity lines of credit with an appraisal well north of $500k. She wrote herself a check and walked away. When it was sold after foreclosure by The Resolution Trust company, I bought it for a $138k, and it was in very good shape. Imagine Wakulla Bank holds many, many pieces of paper like this. They’re first hit with “cease and desist” orders putting them under restrictive operating procedures that prohibit risky underwriting and brokered deposits and install anti-looting protocols (see Jake Butcher’s looting of Hamilton/United American Bank). Eventually, state regulators, escorted by the Highway patrol, seized the bank in 2010. A consent agreement between the FDIC and a healthy Centennial Bank out of Arkansas allowed for the transfer of insured deposits to Centennial. At the same time several other insolvent banks went under. Gulf State Bank was one. I don’t remember the others, but Centennial Bank ended up with operations in Leon, Gadsden, Liberty, Calhoun and Franklin counties (in addition to Wakulla and Gulf counties). For depositors, they barely noticed the changes other than there were new signs on the doors. Centennial hired most of the rank and file employees of the bankrupt entities, so customers even saw the same tellers and other people they were used to dealing with when they went to the new bank. This scenario repeated itself all over Florida, which was especially hard hit because the bubble was particularly big ther and it had a very clumsy and inefficient foreclosure process, and all over the country. When you say the banks were bailed out, that’s not accurate. The owners and shareholders were wiped out. Their stock/ownership stake became worthless. In a few cases large, systemically important financial entities were given backstop protections. You can argue that the AFG counter-parties were bailed out (and these were politically powerful firms) when we should have let the AFG go under (or at a minimum given the counter-parties a substantial haircut), but it wasn’t a bailout for AFG’s stockholders. Several of them sued and argued that the forced restructuring was way below market. And it turned out that the federal government actually turned a nice profit for stepping in and keeping AFG solvent.
