Hello everyone! Recently I turned 23 and I have decided that it is time to get myself into investing (could have earlier but I would say it is still early) as having money sitting on the bank that I do not use and inflation grows is not ideal. I have opened an account with IBKR and I live in Europe (and will also be travelling to a different country from where I currently live but still in Europe) and thus I do not have direct access to ETFs such as SP500 etc etc I will be investing around 3-4k for a start, and as much money as I can monthly, but at the start of the next year I will get access to around 12-15k more which will also be invested into my portfolio. I did a little bit of research and I have decided that I prefer not go with a single global broad market ETF as I would like to have a bit more control where I invest my money as the months/years come by. And thus by going through ETFs, different posts and videos collecting information I have decided to go with one of these portofolios: **Portfolio 1:** **Value: IWVL (VTV) | Dividend: VHYL (VYM) | Growth IWQU (US: QUAL) - CNDX (US: QQQ)** Portfolio 2 Value: IEVL (US: EFV) and ZPRV (US: VBR) | Dividend: FUSD (US: SCHD) | Growth: CNDX (US: QQQ) As I am not that experienced yet, I will be looking into your feedback and insights!
$EFV, msci int'l value, at 97 RSI on the all time chart.
$EFV, MSCI global value etf, at 93.91 RSI on the 5 yr timeline.
$EFV, iShares MSCI EAFE Value ETF, up 10% ytd makes you think
Anyone fuck with EFV? It looks like it’s been on a tear this past year. Options look super limited on ToS mobile. Might be worth going share gang and buying a few monthlies on dips? Bull Case: Diversity is our strength
EFV - international and not tech heavy.
You stay the course or diversify. Identify the ETFs that are most vulnerable. Instead of investing more heavily in common index funds like VOO or QQQ, you can diversify with DGRO (holds less tech, lower PE) or VTV which is more value focused. The U.S. in particular is vulnerable so global diversification can help, but EFV would give you the same value tilt with global stocks. Ultimately, when the bubble bursts, everything will go with it. Diversifying might save you a 10-15% decline and you might recover a little quicker, but very little, if anything, will be saved from a crash.
I loaded clients up on EFV before tariffs, still enjoying a 21% YTD return. Now shifting to growth and ETFs like BAI now we're getting the tantrum behind us.
DIVI is my go-to international ETF. Large Value. I also like EFV.
How to maximize my dollar cost averaging. Hello, So I only contribute $150 every two weeks to my Roth IRA because that’s what I’m able to do at the moment. I’ve researched a lot and I like the idea of ETF’s and passive investing. I’ve come across tickers like VOO, SPY, VTI, IJR,VNQ,EFV. My issue is of them, like SPY, are $450 a share. Am I expected to just wait after two months to buy just one? How can I start getting the money I’m already putting into the stock market to work rather than having money waiting in the sidelines.

Looking for downsides on my total portfolio. Or a 1-10 rating against my goal. VOO is only good option in roth 401k with match maxed annually. 1% on stocks are including fund overlap. Going for value tilts and believe in small cap premium Goal: 10-15M with index fund dividends > 100k after tax. Time Horizon: 20 years. High Risk 30-35% VTI 18% VOO 15% AVUV 5% AVDV 5% AVES 5% VEA 5% EFV 5% VWO 1% Google 1% Microsoft. 1% Apple 1% Tesla 1% Nvidia 1% Bitcoin 6% in Money Market
XLV, XLP, CWB, EFV, PFF, LTPZ, XLU, and GLD. Most (if not all) of these will be poised for gains should the market “crash.” If you held these 8 and only these 8 in your portfolio you would essentially be in a recession proof fortress. I don’t think you would see incredible unrealized profits but at least you’d be heading up while the majority was crashing down.
Fair, and in your words they "were" overvalued and you would have been selling them at that high valuation to buy bonds as the portfolio drifted to get back to 90/10. Overall I don't think "the market" is over valued for long term investors but certain sectors may be. For example having exposure to EELV, EFG & EFV on the equity side has really paid off lately. Those were recent additions to my equity side for Q4. I don't have a crystal ball but I am bullish for this year.
Is there a better replacement for EFV for developed value?
That is a very complicated portfolio, but I like many of those picks. There is a lot of overlap, but I'm guessing you have calculated the exposure to each sector? For anyone else not knowing those tickers, it is: - Total US Stock Market (VTI) - US Small Cap Value (AVUV) - Ex-US Developed Small Cap Value (AVDV) - Emerging Market Value (AVES) - Ex-US Developed (VEA) - Emerging Market (VWO) - Ex-US, ex-Canada Developed (EFV) - Leveraged S&P 500 (UPRO) - Leveraged Treasuries (TMF)
40% VTI, 15% AVUV, 5% AVDV, 10% AVES, 5% VEA, 5% VWO, 10% EFV, 3% UPRO, 2% TMF, 1% Apple, 1% Google, 1% Microsoft, 1% Bitcoin. Total portfolio includes Roth 401k, Trad IRA, Brokerages. Time Horizon 20 years. High Risk, wouldn't sell if down 50%. Picked for -value tilt, small cap tilt, trying to not be bias towards the US. 1% apple - google - microsoft to bet against tech. I am also betting that developed markets / emerging will have a run again in my time horizon as other nations compete against he U.S - thoughts?
Personally I hold shares of Dimensional International Value (DFIV with 0.35% ER), but the most popular ETF would be iShares MSCI EAFE Value ETF (EFV) with a similar (.39%) expense ratio.
bought BKNG people will travel despite Ukraine. More EFV, BABA, AMZN
not all active I guess, but heres a few value names I like that definitely provide a different sort of risk profile (both foreign and domestic): SLYV, EFV, EWJV, GVAL, AVDV, AVES, EYLD. Those final 4 are more exotic. I really like the all the Cambria offerings. I have a fair bit of EYLD. They also have another which is VERY similar but it has slightly different criteria for how they select.
EFV and AVIV for developed markets. AVES for emerging markets. If you want to play specific stocks you can check out the holdings of those ETFs for ideas
I have a lot of VWO, EFV and BABA. BABA was a very small position initially but I’ve added as it got cheaper. I also have some Japanese stocks, gold, cash and bonds.
puts??F?V?EFV??VCD?FVC?SD?????!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!??!?! EXPIIRYYY WHAT STRIIKE PIUTUTTS PUTSSS>?????? PUTS???!?!?!??@?@?#?!!??
You make some good points here, and I hope value makes money for you. As for me, I'm pretty confident that ETFs like QQQ and VGT will outperform ETFs like IUSV and EFV by a wide margin over the long term (10+ years).
Understand your hesitation, especially as we've reached a new all time high about a week ago. You strike me as more of a conservative investor. Learn to play to your character. Imo the only way to stock pick without a tonne of research atm is to pick value until this current drop in tech stabilises. it looks like what we had in February, but we can't say much more until we see the market reaction on may 12 with the CPI data... and if the post earnings season slump of big tech will stabilise to lift QQQ back with it. So your best plays for safety are value: some ETFs like NOBL, EFV or MGV, made of long term, profitable mature companies with safe dividends. Research these tickers to see how they correlate with SPY and QQQ and pick your risk profile. Note that once the next big crash comes it will all go down together anyway, so it won't matter if you're holding value or big tech. Anything past a few weeks horizon is just good ol' SPY, very hard to beat that thing long term. And QQQ if you don't mind seeing your portfolio swing like crazy. Anyone who offers you advice on a single stock, take their words with a pinch of salt. True company analysis costs serious time and hence, cash. Bonds right now don't offer too much safety either imo, with interest rates / yields so low, any increase will hurt you greatly. I'd even put 2% of your money in crypto to try and generate some alpha, but that requires some research from you as well.
AVUS, RPV, IJR, AVUV, EFV, AVDV, AVEM. I'm always in the market!
International Large cap value - About $10k of EFV
Am definitely going to pick up some AVDV now, I must have missed this. Right now I have a blend of VEA and EFV which is too large. If you have time - how did you decide to go with AVEM over VWO and that extra fee was worth it? Or was it more to limit the China exposure? Or was it faith in Avantis’s proprietary selection?
