CS Disco ($LAW) is interesting - I own some. AI tool to help legal industry with discovery, essentially scanning and making sense of documents. It has a good reputation as a product and financials in fair shape. Still not making a profit but raised enough on IPO to continue for several years at current burn, and that’s been improving recently. Its enterprise value is sub 3 times sales, which is appealing to me for a company that could see a lot of revenue growth ahead when legal industry doubles down on AI. If you think it will triple revenue in the next few years on the back of AI, you’re buying it at about 1x sales. Long story short, the founder-CEO left a few months ago due to a sexual harassment scandal, causing it to go down even further than all the other smallcap growth stocks post-Covid. In full disclosure, there’s still some legal risk from the fallout, and a pending class action for misleading shareholders, but I doubt those will affect prospects that much for long term holders. I believe it’s hasn’t yet been seen much as an AI stock much yet, even though it’s framed itself as AI since it IPO’d long before the ChatGPT hype began. It’s still small and they’ll face challenges from well-funded startups, but unlikely to be competing directly with OpenAI, Google etc as it’s too specialized. The new CEO is well-credentialed and should be positioned to ride the wave.

I retired from the Army at 40 y/o, so I’ve been collecting that pension for 13 years. I’ll retire from state employment at 60. Retirement income is mostly taken care of. My investing is a fun hobby that I can do because I live somewhat below my means. My real goal is building intergenerational wealth. I’d like to just let it build until I pass it to my kids. Or a select niece/nephew that have ne’er do well parents. Learned lessons with my Dad dying this year. Full disclosure: I love Robinhood, have been using it for years, and am invested in it. First, thank you for writing an analytic post about HOOD. Second: A lot of this post is based on misunderstanding. Payment for Order Flow (PFOF) basically does not mean something massive for your trades, unless you are moving hundreds of thousands of dollars a day or potentially investing in something with gigantic spreads (like some obscure penny stock). It might be less than a few pennies per transaction. Robinhood CANNOT legally give you a terrible price that is outside of market norms. Let me repeat - SPY having a bid of $300, an ask of $300.10, and RH executing your trade at $ 299.50 is illegal. In fact, NO broker can do that. There is some ambiguity between 300 and 300.10, so you will get something in between. But if you put a limit order in, you will get exactly what you asked for when it's available. Again, this is the US LAW for ALL brokers. MANY brokers do PFOF. Interactive Brokers, TradeStation, and many others are far more malicious and built their businesses on active trading. It's usually not some gigantic malicious routing of your orders, it's just how the stock market operates. It's been going on for decades. Keep in mind Robinhood charges you ZERO for stock trades, option trades, any trades. In the past, it used to be a MINIMUM of $5 for EACH trade paid directly. In the recent past, you would pay more in a single transaction than 50 Robinhood transactions. RH has also started diversifying their revenues away from PFOF. They charge for Gold at $5 a month, have a debit card, a retirement account, etc. I do not believe they will rely on PFOF as the only way to sustain their business. Furthermore...Schwab is not some saint. The reason they don't list PFOF is because they directly charge users! Their online stock purchases are "free," but their options contracts are 65 cents each, and OTC transactions are $6.95. They even charge for bonds.

God, This is a super dumb take. This has very little to do with the fact that the bank services Silicon Valley, and everything to do with interest rates. SVB was not doing speculative investments. It wasn’t doing fraud. It was doing plain ole boring banking. They bought bonds during ZIRP policy (because tech was doing WELL and they had to buy these things by LAW). Then the fed rugged them by raising rates and voila the bonds that they bought at ZIRP are now underwater. They have to hold them to maturity. BUT WAIT! They can’t do that because there’s a run in the bank and they need to post deposits. This is 1000% banking contagion going on right before our eyes because the fed was stupid in raising interest rates too far too fast and didn’t wait for the effects of their actions to take hold. Look at the banks getting hammered today. Truist financial. Signature bank. These banks are getting fucking killed because the fed rugged them with their idiotic pandering to politicians about being “tough on inflation” while they sacrificed up the entire financial sector. So now the fed is stuck in a bank run. For the SECOND TIME in JPOW’s era. They won’t be able to raise rates without causing more banks to explode. And indeed I expect short sellers to force the fed to capitulate. Truist is the one I’m watching. That’s the Lehman brothers.
