MP is down 3% today...turns out China is now flooding the market with rare earths. The joys of being in a commodity market...
$MP is down 3% today as it turns out China is flooding the market with rare earth. That is a problem with China being a monopoly commodity provider...they can flip between floods and droughts to gouge their clients and then bankrupt (or even buyout) their competitors. MP at least has long term contract protection.
my thinker says there's some chance MP materials goes down bigly, and suddenly, if the peace deal goes through.
If you are ballsy, if Russian withdraws from the war, I see MP dumping
$20k in INTC already with another $20k ready to go. Orange Man protectionist trade is so predictable. If you missed the MP and INTC trade, start looking for homegrown industrials, they’re next!
I'm interested in US rare metal companies like Steve Zissou pointed out, considering the recent Dept of Energy funding announcement. Looks like a late August or September play. Stuff like MP, UUUU, ABAT, USAR, UURAF, WWR, etc and the like.
Thanks, in UUUU and UURAF at the moment, the latter being similar to this play (small, startup style pre-revenue REE company). All of the REE players that get DoD funding are relatively well positioned at the moment, it's just MP that's stolen most of the limelight (and gains) with the massive investment they've received.
INTC calls. See MP post government stake. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
What caused the 38% (peak to troth) plunge last month? If they got DoD funding you'd expect it to trend more like MP or other DoD funded companies in the REE space. Not criticizing, just wondering what happened.
Switched from a slab Samsung flagship to fold 7 this year. Cover screen is on par with a standard slab phone, thickness is slimmer than an iphone 16pro max and when opened, it's even slimmer. Weight is less than iphone 16 pro max and cameras are on par with latest Samsung flagship(200MP camera and all). So a slimmer lighter and big phone when folded and even bigger tablet when unfolded. Samsung did good with Fols 7. Also battery is phenomenal so far for me, 7+ hrs of screen time ending day with 10% left.
Intel touched the $18s in the last 6 months. People throw around the “too big to fail” line — but remember Boeing, different problems, same logic. Look at MP — government backed it, and it went meteoric. Totally different story, but shows what real momentum can look like. Intel could go up from here, sure, but its ceiling might just be $30–35. Hard to know if it ever breaks higher. Appaloosa bought 8M shares in Q2 around $18–22.70, so big money was loading the dip.

Extremely bullish on not only MP, but all domestic critical mineral miners/refiners. It has so much bipartisan support. My Favorites: PPTA - Antimony and Gold Miner UAMY - Antimony Miner and Refiner MTRN - Beryllium Refiner UURAF - RE Refiner They have been absolutely fantastic this year and I don’t see and policy changes anytime soon.
I doubt many other companies will be getting acquired unless they’re important for national security. The only other company they have taken a stake in is MP Materials, which is mining rare earths.
I did on MP and open. Coulda had 10 baggers on both.
I'm still break even because I keep buying it. China still manipulates it. In fact, as I said in my post, China does approximately 60% of the mining and 90% of the refining & processing of rare earth minerals in the world. US wants badly to reduce this reliance on China, because rare earths have an increasingly higher importance in high tech industry, including semiconductors and military weapons. And MP Materials is pivotal in this, because not only it's the biggest miner in the US, it's also one of the only companies that refines and processes rare earth minerals in the US, and is by far the biggest one. So yeah, it's not only a matter of short term economics, there are deep geopolitical interests in this, that go far beyond Trump. MP Materials will keep growing, independently of future political turmoils, because the Deep State wants this.
It's still risky. Rare earth is a commodity that China has before manipulated and could manipulate again. Long term contracts and vertical integration are great protections...but who knows. My big fear is one of big contracts get cancelled or tweaked. I'm up 62% on my MP investment and will likely keep holding for a bit here to see what happens.
Neo Performance Materials (TSX: NEO) is one of the most strategically important rare earth companies in the West. Unlike miners that are still scaling, Neo is already producing separated oxides and magnet powders through its Magnequench division, with a European magnet plant under development. This positions the company at the heart of the supply chain bottleneck: rare earth magnets for EVs, wind turbines, and defense. The market continues to value Neo well below peers such as MP Materials and Lynas, despite its downstream integration and decades of technical expertise. And to top things of, it's profitable, cash flow positive and debt free.

I would also include Neo Performance Materials (TSX: NEO), it offers unique exposure to rare earth magnets. The company combines rare earth separation in Europe with decades of experience in magnet powders through its Magnequench division. With construction underway on a new EU magnet plant, NEO is positioned in the most value-added segment of the supply chain (magnets critical for EVs, wind energy, and defense) while still trading at lower valuations than peers like MP Materials and Lynas.
I'm really curious what the government involvement will look like. I feel like a lot has been very small so far and I really want to see a large investment made. Something to significantly move the needle like with MP
It's not just the Apple and DOD deal. MP and Maaden (aka Saudia Arabia) recently announced a joint resolution to develop Saudia Arabia's very rich mineral deposits. IMO the last deal has drove up the stock price this past week. There has been speculation that MP might be associated with any Ukraine rare earth deal, but that is only conjecture at this point. The strength of MP will now be in refining rare earths which they can now do in Texas (well soon). An argument against MP is light rare earth elements. But I could see theme expanding into heavy rare earth in the future. Lynas is building a rare earth refinery in Texas (coincidentally where MP is) and I could see MP partnering with this Australian company. There is a lot that can go wrong with MP...they have gone bankrupt before (under another name). We also could see a rare earth bubble...but they are protecting themselves somewhat with long term contracts.
You pull out decades old GM example yet you don't use the recent MP example.
Only thing is government decided to fund MP materials over USAR, MP is their competitor why would USAR get funded as well?
Yup maybe that's why they decided to fund MP instead..
Just want to point out that chinese companies produce 99.9 percent of rare earth minerals sold on the market and MP is approaching similar market caps to chinas biggest producers without selling much of anything. Just an observation. I own shares.
I've recently made a post on this too if you're interested: https://old.reddit.com/r/stocks/comments/1mobih3/mp_materials/ My opinion is, Trump wants to make a new industrial revolution in the US, and the MP Materials will play a major part in this. Also, worth mentioning these aren't merely deals: Apple invested $500 million dollars, a very significant amount, and the Pentagon bought 15% of MP's shares through the Department of Defense.
Man I've been holding MP bag since Biden was coherent, bought it for like $28 ages ago and it was in the shitter for years, wallowing in the teens. Then Trump talked shit about China and China responded that it would restrict rare earth exports and the stock jumped to around $30 and I was so happy to make a tiny profit and get rid off that dog of stock, and of course now it's $75.

I am really about to buy Intel? INTEL?? Of all companies? Did Don 🌮give any indication that they’d be buying a stake in MP before they did it? I feel like they would had just did it if they were gonna buy into Intel rather than say it might happen like they do all the time with weed
🥭 will make it happen, just a matter of time, The US government will make a deal and support INTC by buying massive shares just like what they did to MP. It’s a matter of National Security!
MP is incapable of supplying the necessary materials (terbium and dysprosium) for a domestic high performance magnet supply chain because those elements aren’t in their ore body at economical levels
Will Intel pull a MP and breakout?
I dunno bruh, isn't the premise a little bit flawed that the only thing holding them back is cash? It's process tech their issue and an inability to attract external fab customers? I'm asking over here, what does this change? How does this alter their fortune and that of shareholders? MP sure, they can dig a bigger hole, buy more equipment ect, I get that. But what form does this stake take? Open market share buys don't help them unless they issue stock, i.e dilution. A 'private stake' is just behind closed door share dilution with a different name. How does this change their foundry tech deficit, their main problem?
The problem is that you have to gamble not only on the peace talks happening and being successful, but also on the outcome If Ukraine remains a neutral state or joins NATO/EU, yes, companies involved in the reconstruction are likely to go to the moon. Like Caterpillar, MP materials for mining (Ukraine has a ton of rare earth) etc. But it's just as likely that Ukraine becomes a Russian puppet state in some way or another. If Ukraine becomes the new Belarus or Georgia, American companies get nothing
the definition of socialism is the government owning the means of production. this regime bought a controlling stake in MP and wanna do the same with INTC but will have a tantrum about "socialism" when people don't wanna die from treatable diseases just because they are poor
When DoD invested in MP Materials the stock surged 250%, time for inc to do the same
I don’t think Intel can pull of a move like MP did. Market cap is too heavy isn’t it? Unless they try to position it like it’s going to be the #1 most important foundry to our existence.
MP trending up!!!! Buying more and more. LFG
Bruh "apple signed a $500 million contract with MP" is the very first point
If you didn’t see the INTC thing coming you’re blind as a bat to what is happening. I missed “great day to buy”, I missed “rare earths are important” with MP, I missed with Tim Cook meeting at White House. I didn’t miss this one and I hope you also start eating good in the neighborhood.
Probably because you're believing the hype in the media that they're behind in AI. Apple have NEVER been a first mover, but they do regularly launch the best product in the category, because they refuse to ship shit. They didn't have the first computer, or MP3 player, or tablet, or wireless headphones, or smart watch but they generally dominate the market they enter when they've figured out how to do it right and it gets mass adoption beyond the nerds.
Look at MP, OKLO, PLTR and others like that. They are apparently part of the govt improving things. If INTC falls into this, don't fight the tape!
The partisan hypocrisy is glaring as you pointed out. When President Obama took an equity stake in GM during the 2009 bailout (an emergency move to save the auto industry and recover taxpayer funds) Republicans accused him of steering the country toward socialism. Now that the Trump administration is considering an equity stake in Intel to increase domestic chip production and reduce reliance on China, Democrats are crying communism. These decisions by each party aren’t ideology, it’s industrial policy. The Department of Defense already took a $400 million preferred equity stake in MP Materials to secure rare earth supply chains. The real question for me isn’t which party is behind it, it’s whether it’s a smart, strategic use of taxpayer dollars that benefits America.
The government is taking an equity stake, not running the company. FWIW, the executives are already making out like bandits. This is the second company the governments taken an equity stake (MP Materials/Intel) to reduce the dependence on China for rare earth minerals and chips
For anyone not jumping on this news, go look at the MP chart. You have a choice to make, either sit around and bitch about how this is communism OR you can throw every free cent you have at this and make some cash. BTW, you can still bitch about it but just fucking BUY shares, the short squeeze is gonna be brutal!
What’s the difference when we have the Defense Production Act and the President is calling for the resignation of CEOs unless they get on his good side? I doubt Xi Xi is making day to day decisions of every company just how the government won’t be making day to day decision of MP or Intel. But if the government needs something done, they have the DPA.
MP has sustained its price 🤷🏻♂️
Intel about to dump. People treating that news the same as MP but this is all speculation.
Just liked the people that shorted MP? 😂
Goog should be the one on AMZN’s run right now. All the names i’m watching go up while im full ported into GOOG AMZN RDDT AAPL MP
just went all-in balls-to-the-room-divider on USAR and MP less goooooo
Going to keep buying monthly INTC calls until we get a new MP like announcement. Can’t be more than 2-3 months out.
Dear lord is MP gonna end the week at $80… This market is adorable.
The magic has never been marketing, it’s been an impeccable sense of timing combined with nearly flawless technical execution. Apple has always been late to the game but when they enter a segment, they perfect it overnight. Portable MP3 players were a thing in the late 90s but the iPod was a revelation. Now instead of shuffling 10 songs onto a 128mb MP3 player I had my entire music library in my pocket. Same with the iPhone, nobody gave a shit about the bulky heavy Windows CE based phones or Sidekicks but when they iPhone came out it felt like a very viable useful product that made a real difference in day to day life. Microsoft had tablets in the early 2000s, but it wasn’t until the iPad came out that anyone cared about tablets. I have a feeling we’ll see history repeat itself here and it’s why I’m still a shareholder.
Problem with MP is that Mountain Pass doesn’t have the “good stuff”(HREE), mostly just LREE https://www.mining.com/web/aclara-seeks-state-funding-for-us-brazil-plans/
Is the US government interest from the current administration? I found the EXIM letter from the Biden administration but I don't see any direct interest or investment by the Trump administration, a la MP Materials. Big difference.
Just gotta look at who’s looking for HREE vs MP’s bullshit LREE’s
If that 1 billion is split between a few companies for critical minerals in the US...METC and MP should get the lions share.
US just unleashed 1 billion (I know doesn't sound like alot) to develop critical minerals...there are only 2 (two) companies in the US that have access to critical minerals..MP and METC..That is it. Either or should do well in the near term.
It was a strong buy at $25, still at $40, then popped to $60, then still it rises. I'd dollar cost average in case it heads back near $60. The actual bottleneck is in rare earth refining. Rare earths are not actually rare. The other refining stocks that are US are USAR and AREC. USAR and AREC both could get offtake agreements like MP did. In fact they both refine HREEs, which MP is further behind on that tech.
For short/medium term I'm excited for MP, and medium/long my bet goes for Illumina inc.
I'm more excited about the opportunity to watch MP over the next few years, than any other stock I own.
Hudbay HBM is on fire, premarket up 15% on earnings, mining gang strikes again. MP materials is holding up nicely this week as well.
$MP as well. One of my lil gems.
My dad was a very average insurance salesman in the 90s. He had just bought his first home (in his mid-40s), a boring new construction box in some boring suburb. He drove an old suburban, struggled to buy new clothes for us kids at the start of each school year, and we never went on vacation more than 2 hours from home. Then, one day I came home, and we had a brand new leather couch. Not long after, a beautiful giant hardwood media center with like the biggest CRT TV that could be made (I think it was like 35"). Giant Boston acoustics floor standing speakers and wall-mounted surrounds hooked up to a huge Denon receiver—unheard of technology in my social class of the day. Soon, he pulled up in a brand new suburban, _towing a brand new ski boat_. The same year, he acquired his dream car: a used but late model BMW 3 series convertible (I guess that was just the car that younger him thought of as "I've made it.") My senior year of high school in 2000, he took the whole family on a vacation _to a motherfucking Caribbean island_. A cheesy all-inclusive resort, mind you. But we were simple people. It might as well have been a private lakeside villa in Northern Italy in our experience. Suddenly he wasn't so worried about paying for summers camps. College scholarships were no longer pushed as an urgent necessity. Life was good. We were never _wealthy_, but it was a hugely significant lifestyle change for the whole family. And what, you ask, precipitated this sudden and considerable windfall? My dad had somehow made a ridiculously ill-informed pre-IPO investment in the stock of a company called..._MP3.com_. And, thankfully, he quickly sold it after he made an incredibly stupid amount of money (for a man of his...means at the time). Never since has he ever picked another winner like he did in 1999, but neither did he crash back down to his previous financial status. He also invested some of his gains in his own business, which he grew over time and did just fine for himself.
u/One-Hovercraft-1935 what’s your take on MP long term vs a private startup like Vulcan Elements?
8-12, but MP materials was my one of my biggest holdings coming into the year.
This makes zero sense lmao Buy MP, it’s a monopoly it will continue to go up and has a ton of use cases in our economy
MP is up, did my own research LOL
The US territory has all the rare earths, same as China. MP alone doesn't have it all, that's true, they process only light rare earths with focus on producing magnets, having gotten very heavy investment from DoD and Apple already. Perhaps a movement to be observed is whether the companies controlling the heavy rare earth mines (Ucore.) will face similar movements. They're getting heavily and quickly valued too, by the way. I don't think you can call this a "wave" yet considering how unknown to the public this stock still is. Most movement are yet whales forming position to then ride it when it becomes widely known.
Chemistry matters and MP does not have the critical one ms is my point. But investors will ride the wave.
+125%~ mostly thanks to MP materials. If I didn't hedge against them a little earlier this year I'd be up around 180%. MP and META have both taught me I tend to be a little too quick selling after a big run up.
I mean that's a kinda useless question respectfully, since if DoD bought 15% of the shares and MP formed partnership with the Pentagon there are obviously military purposes for it
Need HOOD and MP to drop to $100 and $60 respectively to buy shares, feel a need to have those in my port lately but don’t want to join in at ATH. 😔
I'm all in and have been for about 6 months. It has done nothing but move up my list of gains. It is about to surpass Apple in overall gains and I've had Apple for a long time. I believe MP is / will be the poster child for Trumps American industrial revolution. There, I said it.
INTC going to end up with a deal like MP. You’ve been given a gift. What you do with it is up to you.
> won't the price of existing companies soar? Already has. Check out $MP.
Holder of Pensana Rare Earths, which has had a good year. Should have thought to look at this one as well once the MOU announcement came through. Both seem to be in a good sport at the moment with the increasing US investment in Western Rare Earth company's to secure there supply. Recent MP Material announcements gives me hope for the smaller cap companies like REelements and Pensana.
I lost my penis in a bizarre boating accident at MP Material’s mine. All I got in return was a lousy quarter when I asked for some palladium.
