Over the past couple of months we have seen one metal group after another fall apart. I think you missed the boat. I have some research on the company. There are some potential catalysts and commodities have big swings. If you had long term conviction with an exit before you buy, sure. You would also have to average down on the dips. I see a bunch of charts at their 52 week lows in that sector. NB- MP-LAC. I could list a dozen more. I like to play the hits myself. These look like sinking ships. And the charts support this. Technical Analysis is giving you the answer. Maybe find something more inspiring.
the thing I'd watch is magnets not mining. MP can dig the stuff up fine, the hard part is turning it into finished magnets at scale, thats the part china actually controls. the DoD deal helps because it puts a floor under the economics while they ramp.
The national security case for MP Materials is strong, but that doesn't mean shareholders automatically get a great return. The Apple and defense relationships are worth watching, yet production economics and dilution still matter. Since I use Moon for short term price wagers, I try not to confuse a compelling story with a good entry. I'd want to see the magnet business deliver on those contracts.
I don't think it's a garabge company but rare earths are volatile (there was a massive rare earth bubble about 15 or so years ago) and not as rare as the name would suggest in some cases. Processing (which MP does have) is the thing that's more rare. I have some rare earth exposure, but it's slight - it's not even a core position on the real asset portion of my portfolio. MP was previously run by Molycorp, which was the key rare earth stock in the US that went up during the prior bubble about 15 years ago. The company soared, then went to 0 on the other side of the bubble.

The entire sector has performed poorly over the past year. High volatility on thin volume most of the time. Even MP and USAR down 50% from the heyday of Oct 2025, CRML and UUUU 70% 😢 Have to be nimble until the sector matures and we see sustained growth based on revenue and not hype. But I see opportunity with a 6-12 month short term window. At these levels wouldn’t be surprised to see 50% advances on positive news squeezing the shorts, then retracing back down unless sentiment drastically changes.

i think the current dip is the kind of thing you look for if you’re willing to stomach the capital crunch and the fact that most of the playing field is still controlled by a single state actor. as long as the govt keeps the wall of subsidies up, the fundamentals around MP and UUUU make them a long‑run play, but right now the wildly volatile commodity leg and the looming environmental compliance costs still make the short‑term odds poor.

I’ve always loved MP Materials. If you watch them long enough, they become very predictable, though thats more technical than fundamental. But fundamentally speaking they’re in a really good position to become a very dependable source for rare earth metals in the USA and unlike a lot of companies they can do everything from the mining, refining, and even building of the magnets all by themselves here in North America, no depending on China whatsoever.
For UUUU I got in almost two years ago. The nuclear energy trade has fizzled but long term I like them for both uranium and rare earth supply chain. For me it’s a 10+ yr hold. The great powers are competing for resources and UUUU has them. Don’t own MP but Bloomberg TV has good episode. They are making magnets.

Learning that $MP got a sweetheart government deal and stock was up 50% overnight. $UUUU has not gotten their sweetheart deal yet. This is a call option on that deal. I heard the term "vertically integrated Western materials chain", which is exactly what this is. People are buying a long-term strategic flywheel for the new geopolitical world. I also studied the NAV projections from the company which is a little over $16. Worst case scenario if projects hit struggle is the stock is fundamentally worth $10. I am assigning anywhere from 2x to 10x multiplier for strategic asset and the story. This is a stock who's backward metrics simply not capture its forward value, so to know it has any (and even fair) underlying value today makes me extremely bullish. Buffett said think of the price as an offer that you can accept or deny. Also, see a lower price as good, because it will attract more buyers. A few other things I've learned that are helping me: The VAC South Carolina plant is the largest magnetics plant in the country, that the company is uranium hedged but more of a rare earth minerals play, which is exactly where the value is. I like the CEO buying a $1m of insider stock at this price earlier this summer. What's there to worry about? Just wish I got food poisoning two days ago. But, the future thesis is there and the call options are good.

I'm glad you wrote this. I'm AuDHD and finally realized why I am the way I am for my whole life. In March I had an epiphany. It led me to MP Materials stock. I would have put 500k in at that time ($49). Life events over the past 5 years have cause us to lose everything, start over with nothing, 2 kids and bankruptcy. It was this that allowed me to find and know myself, and I've completely changed. I sent my parents the MP stock tip and a few others at that time. Within a few weeks, it was trading at $70. Over time back down, which makes it seem less attractive. I can't explain the entirety of my epiphany here and now, but your reasoning is very solid, but ultimately not the reason why this stock will secure your future. This is a buy and hold stock. Not a get quick rich. Show the Universe you are willing to believe and you will be rewarded. I hope by writing this I can help other people who have some means to get up and out of their current situation and hopefully do much better. Unfortunately, we are unable to take advantage of this opportunity. I was able to purchase 3 shares with the cash balance on my 401k at work LOL.

Refining is key. Any miner can put out a PR about how they have 100 brazzillion MT of proven reserves of any element, how accessible and pure the ore is but if they don't talk about refining or their plan for refining is vague you will lose money. 90% of the names being passed around won't be viable in 5 years. MP is about the only sure bet. Secondary to them are UUUU and USAR, both with rough plans for refining but not yet operational and are in that 5-7 year window before they could be considered in the same ballpark as MP.
One man's opinion and not the guy you asked - TMC won't make it. Same problem as all juniors: no refinement/processing. The TMC bulls will spout nonsense about Brownsville port in TX. What they won't tell you is it isn't funded (yet) and while it may get funding some day you're talking about 5-7 years and 2-3 Billion to do so. And that's just to START running ore/nodules through it. That's precisely why MP is in the dominant position out of all REE names. Their refining was mostly in place when they bought it out of bankruptcy in 2017. It took them six years to get it operational and it's now ramping. This shit takes time. TL;DR - if a miner has to send their ore to china to be refined you haven't solved the problem

MYR would be a publicly traded company who installs power. My immediate thoughts on power is you want to find areas in a supply chain where there is a bottle neck. For example, transformers. That market is pretty saturated because everyone knows that transformers is a bottle neck and the stock prices have surged greatly. If you look at the next wave that is coming, it’s robotics (based upon NVDA investments and forecasting). So if you look at some bottle necks with robotics that aren’t yet fully discovered, you have interesting plays on magnets (MP, USAR) Or Ouster - which does the vision for robots but is the only company that allows robots or drones to see color at scale. Ondas is interesting as all foreign drones have received 100% tarriffs. You just have to be careful about dilution with some of these. If you want to stick with data centers, Iren is about to get their data center builds under contract - with Microsoft taking contract in October, November, and December. They are also building a hyperscaler in TX and have secured land and power. It’s trading at around $40 - where its main competitor is further along trading at $200. Seems like it has room to run.
Fair point, I picked up some of those for my son today actually as he just has a couple of grand to invest. I’m hoping these 5 would beat that index though, with a focus on the monopolistic businesses but I don’t know how much of VGT they’d make up. MP probably the only one with real 5 bagger potential but I’m hard placed to imagine a reason why the others wouldn’t at least double in 5 years and more likely triple.

AI spits out any genre, it has no specific bias on any specific genre, just whatever its trained it's model on, which is a metric fuck ton of songs in the most dubious, legal grey area that needs to be dealt with. There is truth to that. In my field many companies bring in large components for the equipment they are building and they calling it made in Canada when 80% came from China. I have complained about it to my MP's as they tell me to diversify and do work for Canadian companies, but they are bringing it in at almost half the cost. We have to look in our own back yard. But our suppliers are telling us to always lower the cost, so you need to use low cost countries. An average car will cost 70k before you know it.

Hmm, (IMO) it depends whether you feel that you have benefited from the nation. If you feel that you recieved value from that nation, you should (again my opinion) be willing to do a little service for them. The nation service doesn't have specialties? My Greek friend did his nation service in an Engineer unit and he said it was valuable experience and opened doors for him after service. Another Cypriot friend did his national service as an MP and then joined the police. My country doesn't have national service, but I did a 10 year enlistment. It's really not that bad, you might even find that you enjoy it. Since room and food comes out of your salary, you can invest everything you have left.
