The point I am making is inheriting an asset worth $2.5m at 20 is very different from adding $20k to a 401k for 20 years BTC is a very risky speculative 'asset' it has no underlying value only the value related to demand and supply. -- and yes Fiat has an underlying value related to the economy and GDP--- An asset that is speculative only, think of tulips in 1700's can implode if sentiment deteriorates and go to $0. Is this a good place to rationally keep your fortune of $2.5m. If you inherited a balanced stock portfolio would you sell it and invest in BTC? No rational person would, this kid has 50 years to live and this $2.5m could provide him for his entire life and still have money to pass to his kids. Lower risk investing would give him $50k income and growth over the entirety of his life. Keeping the BTC in a wallet in a safe is risky and he could end up with $0. \--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The point on USD volatility is not the correct metric. As prices increase so do wages. The mean income purchasing power has increased for decades, that is because inflation affects prices and wages. as such median real household income has risen until 2019. During the Pandemic it declined , in 2022 it had grown to above the pre pandemic level . 1 USD =1 USD but earnings are rising so you make more than 1USD BTC is not a currency, you cant easily use it to purchase gas, housing, or food. So 1BTC =1BTC but its exchange rate for goods is not fixed. your value can be deflated by 1-2% on any given day and in the last 2 years the BTC purchasing power dropped 50%. This level of instability means you asset value is discounted by lenders, meaning borrowing costs are higher leaving even less PP.

That’s complete non-sense and pure ideology. Traders/investors who know what they are doing seek to maximize their purchasing power. That’s irrespective of the underlying asset. USD remains the common unit of account, so it’s a given that PP is measured in USD. Measuring your PP in bananas isn’t that straightforward, but feasible in principle. Fiat has certain characteristics that make it an important part of any portfolio. OP‘s post is non-sensical as well, as virtually every non-fiat asset appreciates against the dollar. BTC isn’t unique in that regard. But keep spreading misinformation. Makes Bitcoiners look like idiots 👍.

>Paul Rouleau headed an inquiry last year into the emergency act use - It went on for quite a while and was deemed to meet the threshold. It was quite a long proceeding since it was a big event back then, but there was thorough evidence and testimony from a vast array of people that backed it up. Which has no legal standing and was just an investigation unlike the Federal court ruling. CSIS in that investigation also said that they didnt think the standards were met for the emergencies act to be initiated, Trudeau basically said in response to that that CSIS's recommendation was just a suggestion and he didnt have to actually listen to them if he didnt want to. That part always gets left out when ppl talk about the emergency use investigation. > This has nothing to do with the Bitcoin or freezing of accounts (Which was requested by the BANKS, not the government) - This is talking about the emergency act itself in response to the convoy. I'm not even sure why this is an article (On protos.com - Which is widely known as an ANTI-Crypto website that makes fun of Cryptocurrency and doesn't post legitimate news) I didnt know the banks were in charge of the country and not our government. Scotiabank also appologized for locking the bank accounts to customers regretting having to do it at the request of the RCMP. >This is (unfortunately) a deeply political decision - Rouleau is known for more "liberal" views and Mosley is known as a conservative justice. Next year is election year, and Trudeau looks like he's on the way out with PP replacing him. Not sure why this matters >This wasn't even a problem for the feds in the first place - The truckers coming up through Ontario and going to our capital in Ontario are a provincial issue, and our Premier (Provincial leader) literally didn't know what to do about it, and begged Trudeau to do something about it. The Ottawa police also completely abandoned the city instead of doing anything useful for a month. If we want to start blaming Ford for all our issues and absolve the Federal government from all wrongdoing like you were saying earlier with the banks then i just dont know what to say to that. They can all be blamed especially the people who are at the top of this whole mess leading the country.

Little more nuance than this, isn't quite how it's laid out in the article: - [Paul Rouleau headed an inquiry last year into the emergency act](https://publicorderemergencycommission.ca/final-report/) - It went on for quite a while and was deemed to meet the threshold. - [Richard Mosley, a different judge, now thinks this isn't true](https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/emergencies-act-federal-court-1.7091891), which is something that's going to be appealed and re-argued until Lawyers are blue in the face. - This has nothing to do with the Bitcoin or freezing of accounts (Which was requested by the BANKS, not the government) - This is talking about the emergency act itself in response to the convoy. - This is (unfortunately) a deeply political decision - Rouleau is known for more "liberal" views and Mosley is known as a conservative justice. Next year is election year, and Trudeau looks like he's on the way out with PP replacing him. - This wasn't even a problem for the feds in the first place - The truckers coming up through *Ontario* and going to *our capital in Ontario* are a **provincial** issue, and our Premier (Provincial leader) literally didn't know what to do about it, and begged Trudeau to do something about it. The Ottawa police also completely abandoned the city instead of doing anything useful for a month. I'm no fan of Trudeau, and I think he's on the way out, but I also don't think a lot of people understand what happened and why it happened with the trucker's convoy.

I already suggested this to your costumers support, but I'm not sure it will get to you and your team in this way: Can you please update your passphrase feature so it works LIKE ledgers? For reference, AFAIU bitbox passphrase option, requires both the pin for the 24word seed phrase AS WELL AS the ACTUAL passphrase to work. Ledger actually makes this simpler by giving you a second pin, first one to unlock the 24 word seed phrase and second to DIRECTLY unlock the 24w+PP. Would it make sense for bitbox to introduce a multisig option within your own software, or is this overkill for private individuals?

Hey kid, what’s your actual qualification, you seem really confused about the matter. BitPay is a “payment processor”, not much different than PayPal or Skrill. If I buy a laptop from Aliexpress and I want pay in Burundian Francs, it’s pretty obvious that Mr. Chang Zeng Peng is not gonna want to hold my Francs in a bank and PP is gonna convert my currency. I mean that’s literally their whole objective, handling transactions and put out hedges on cross currency exchanges. Of course Ferrari is not gonna train personnel to manage and hedge a wallet for this grypto gimmick, given all the risks associated. Seriously, what is this? But yes it’s simple - and still good for just sending someone few bucks or in general for older people. The reason I said it made things easier for **me**(!) is because i was referring to my specific cases. When I have to do bank transfers to a Vietnamese bank and I need to navigate my money first from one bank account to another because my first bank doesn’t allow sending to this country, then I do the transfer, it gets blocked, I get a call and they want to know WHY I send that money, and for what… then they approve it and I have to wait 3-5 days…

Depends on what you do, with whom and where. For example you mentioned Zelle. Most people can’t use Zelle - in fact I’m not sure anyone outside NA can use Zelle. And PP is a mess. When I use crypto there is no restriction on nations, no kyc, no freezing (PayPal loves doing this). Also it’s instant if done correctly. And all of that goes both ways - for sender AND receiver. Only downside is that you are more at risk if you do business with untrusted parties (no freezing)

While I agree with your point about CPI being bullshit, it seems your comment is suggesting that between March 2022 (when PP made his remarks) and now, inflation has not been an issue. You are wrong. Inflation has continued to be a problem and BTC has also taken a massive hit (since he made his remarks). Even if you were correct, PP has no business giving financial advice. People diving into BTC without understanding the potential risks is a recipe for disaster and would only serve to harm.

Mentions:#PP#BTC
r/BitcoinSee Comment

Hedging inflation means that if inflation is a problem you can count on your hedge. Inflation is up and Bitcoin is downbad from the time of his remarks. There is no need to convince me of bitcoin’s role or benefits. I’m already in for BTC as a long term investment and I am well aware of my own risk tolerance. But PPs advice that BTC could hedge inflation was bad advice and he has no authority to be giving financial advice. Suppose you listened to PP because you were a lifelong conservative, trusted their leadership, and were worried about inflation so you went in on BTC hard. You would be pretty upset right now. He wasn’t giving a major lesson on how to invest for the long run or discussing risk tolerance. He carelessly advocated for BTC as an inflation hedge during a PR stunt. This was careless and reckless of him to do. Nothing about him or his advice is “sage” thanks.

Winter 2016-2017. I was getting married and had heard of BTC twice before, in like 2012 and 2014-5. First one I was unemployed and looking for anything, second time I was halfway across the country from all known family and friends at a crappy job so I had some time on my hands. Third time is when it really hit me, as since it had been around for some time it had staying power. Bought BTC at 1k as well as some alts for a.total investment of 2.2BTC total (always calculate my investment in BTC terms). Portfolio went parabolic, went to over 35k in less than a year and I thought I was a genius. That's how I became a bitcoiner, how I became a true Bitcoiner was.in the crash that followed. My wife thankfully encouraged me to take.out my initial investment which I did so most if not all.my.gains are.basically 'house.money' now. Did try to get into a mining coop at one point and got rekt doing it, as I didnt.truly understand the arms race it really is. Lost a lot and just decided to hodl, come 2020 PayPal decides to allow crypto purchases and Coinbase allows PP as a.pay option so i start.DCAing as bull run heats up. Never got up to old status, but am continuing to DCA in as I believe eventually crypto holdings will surpass my IRA wealth (and if I ever get off my ass to set up an IRA that allows alternative crypto investments will.happen even sooner...)

Turns out this is false. And I think the HWW engineers and marketing teams ***knew this*** all along but allowed the sophomore community to be misled because the companies profited from this. Since Ledger ^(tm) software has all three copies of your encrypted shards and the ability (golden key) to decrypt them, they are de-facto key-holders. The "owners" of bitcoin is always the keyholder. Since Ledger ^(tm) is a keyholder, they are "holding your funds"
