As someone who runs in the circles of some scalpers (though I do not partake myself), this checks out. Big box stores (Walmart, Target, etc...) are seeing MTG products fly off the shelves very nearly as quickly as Pokemon, with UB sets going like wildfire (except for the Avatar set I guess). Things will only continue to speed up until people are stop willing to spend above MSRP on product, which will never happen. Say what you want about HAS and WOTC, but they have plenty of runway for success moving forward.

Money is going from Pokemon into MTG. MTG is really just getting started with re-pricing it's chase cards. If there's only 3 UB sets a year the amount of UB properties is still effectively infinite. They can do new FF sets 5x more times in 10 years and every time it'll be the new best selling set of all time.

Every card game (except yugioh afaik) is experiencing a surge in prices for some sought after cards. The problem is, a lot of that demand is just speculators trying to take advantage of actual collectors or the people who are giving these cards value in the first place, the players. its an artificial period of inflation. There are so many speculators buying off new products to resell that demand is skewed to unreasonable levels (MTG recently did a limited artist collab drop, sold out in minutes, then upsold on ebay and other sites for more than double the original price). Pokemon absolutely has staying power as a collectable, but the current prices will not hold except for the oldest and rarest stuff.

I plan to divest completely from QQQ in my retirement - non tax event- investments. I have seen no good argument for the fast track rule. This deal stinks. It looks like corruption at its worst. Did a Chat GPT session to do research and I will switch to 3 or 4 of these ETFs/Funds MTG/XLK/FTEC/VGT/SPMO/MTUM/FBCG. Its an aggressive - probably more aggressive than QQQ portfolio. I've been lazy to not do some diversifying these past years - but hey QQQ served me well.

You could before, but Valve made it so you can craft higher tiers with low tier stuff. Which blows out the 'value' of the loot boxes. Like an old MTG pack that costs $700 not because its old, but because of the *chance* it has an old card worth thousands. Or you could find a guy that has a glowing butterfly knife skin and just buy it from them for $1500. Things like game skins were "supposed" to be the *real* NFT's, since no one really wants a cartoon picture of a bored ape. But then again, spending $1500 on a skin for a knife in a videogame seems kinda ridiculous.

I live in a moderately sized city with like 5 game stores. The last two MTG pre releases has sold out at all of them days before the event. Honestly though I'm short on MTG in general. Each sets demand is stimulated by increasingly powerful cards. Pretty soon the game is always won by turn 2 even in semi casual pods and players get bored of anything except sealed formats to artificially limit the card pool and even then it's mostly random luck of the draft.

The overall TCG market across the big properties (MTG, Pokemon, One Piece) are all signals that we're still growing. Local game store near me can't keep anything in stock lately If they really got something bigger than Final Fantasy locked up that could be massive. WoW would make sense since Blizzard needs wins right now, but Star Wars licensing... that's Disney money territory Your call positions look aggressive but MTG revenue growth has been carrying Hasbro hard.
