Link to Portfolio: https://imgur.com/a/t6RlRgG Hi All, I'm a long time lurker and I need some advice. I consider myself a long-term investor. The strategy that appeals to me is low-risk and dividends over growth stocks. I've been growing my S&S ISA since 2021, and these pictures are today's snapshot. I don't have time or energy to do a lot of studying of stocks etc. and opted to follow others on YouTube instead that match my strategy. I've followed TheDividendExperiment (Daily Dividend Pie)when it first started, but I've reached a level of money in my portfolio that makes me anxious simply following YouTube advice. In addition to the Daily Dividend Pie, I've also invested in choice stocks for personal experimentation like DIS and SBLK. General consensus I've read on Reddit is to simply invest into an S&P500 Index but I wonder if it's the best course of action for me to simply sell everything and buy an S&P500 Index tracker right now, or do I need to selectively sell stock and keep others instead. I would appreciate any advice, thanks! PS: I rarely post on Reddit and it's my first time posting here so if I'm making a formatting or general mistake in this post let me know also.

i didnt lol. I havent been reading the koala much lately bc my feed is drowned out by uranium bulls. My rationale though is iron ore is breaking out of a long, long downtrend and CLF/VALE, CLF/SBLK, CLF/RIO, you name it all are ratio charts that show CLF has more torque to iron ore than anything else liquid enough to buy calls. So if I wasn’t buying as much uranium as I could, I would be buying more CLF calls.

I'm an employee, don't qualify as an inside trader, or work in that division. Inspection Recalls for this engine at P&W are common place in aerospace, usually not on this scale. Rolls Roce has it with Trent 1000 and XWB engines, GE has it with GE9x. Using oil analysis and NDI of components will show possible failure or potential high wear on jet engines it gets researched, notified and decisions are made within FAA compliance if recall for inspection, rebuild, or replace is required. This is an inspection recall with a very low failure rate. Flash in the pan. I'm more concerned with the net decrease in cash/financing flow and net operating profit. I moved bond and fixed income assets in my 401k to RTX "stock fund" (a rant and rave in itself its so much bullshit and shouldn't be allowed in a 401k, yet there it is) with the dip, 12% below my cost average. To whit on the disclosed insider trading James A. Winnefeld Jr. ADM USN (ret) on the board of directors purchasd on July 26th, doing the exact same thing. On the other hand, to answer OP question, I'm building positions in C, SBLK, UMC and considering adding to Disney. Meanwhile Barron's has posted a price target of $400 for META. So I might go there, but it could put me overweight in underlying holdings.

Been accumulating dividend paying stocks which have been beaten down for whatever current bad news. But they are steady dividend payers and the dividend rate has gone way up with the drop in share price... just collect the great dividends while you wait of sentiment to come back to these name companies... PRU, WHR (even with recession, people will eventually have to buy appliances as the years pass), MDT (aging population will need more medical devices; they have new devices), MMM (lawsuits will eventually conclude), SBLK (shipping business will some back after recession), etc.

r/stocksSee Comment

Past p/e. Shipping rates are 25% of the peak 1 year ago. They go in wild boom-bust cycles. Don't be surprised to see half of them in bankruptcy in a couple years. SBLK was $2000 in 2008 down to $2 by 2016. Others went to zero.

This particular dividend is way higher than last quarter, but it's for real. I have ZIM, SBLK, GSL and DSX. They are all great payers, but don't get overly invested in them. I have just under 15k between the four of them. That's all I'm willing to lose if things go bad.

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

Many ocean shippers including ZIM, Diana Shipping (DSX), Star Bulk Carriers (SBLK), Genco Shipping (GNK) and also related industries like Global Ship Leasing (GSL) have been punished due to projections that a recession will cause a decrease in shipment volume. Ocean shipments are bid on an auction model, so excess capacity would cause shipping rates to drop until shippers reduce their fleet to match demand. In reality though, most shippers anticipated this and have exceeded estimates during the most recent earnings cycle. These companies pay out the majority of their earnings through dividends, which may cause their potential to be ignored by average stock traders when the stock price remains flat. In ZIM's case, their dividend is currently more than 25% of the share price (though it changes each quarter unlike US firms that tend to keep a consistent dividend payout).

Just food for thought, there's a lot of uncertainty in the market right now with it starting to look like people have been unduly optimistic about how much/how long the Fed will be raising interest rates and keeping them high. Unless you're dead set on getting that whole 5k into the market right now, I'd suggest spreading it out more. Maybe spend 1k now, then put in 500 every 2 weeks until the remainder of the original 5k is fully invested and then go to 500 a month. (I'm moderately bearish on the market right now, so if you disagree and think we've seen the worst, obviously this strategy won't be for you.) As for where to put it, you've got to do your own research of course, but personally, I agree with what I saw some others saying about straight S&P500 ETFs not giving you great broad exposure; they're heavily weighted toward tech growth stocks. I like VIG over VYM for a high-dividend ETF. I have some shares of it and am planning to buy more when it gets to a bit better of a price point, but either is a viable dividend strategy. For broader ETFs, I like IJR to get small-cap exposure, and there is reason to think small-caps will outperform if we do have a recession or one that lasts longer/goes deeper than is currently expected. IJH focuses on mid-caps, so you could split between, for instance, VOO, IJR, and IJM to sort of cover your large-, mid-, and small-cap bases. (I own some IJR, no VOO or IJM.) Of the dividend stocks you listed, the only one I own that I'd recommend investing in is ARCC. (I do own some VZ, but I wouldn't buy more myself.) For really great dividends, you could look at bulk ocean carriers like SBLK, GOGL, or ZIM. (I own shares in all three.) All have dividends at or over 20%. They got over-valued for a while and have been suffering price-wise, but that trend has recently abated and I think they're good long-term investments.

If you are right then buy SBLK. A higher natural gas price will lead to a wider spread between the bunker prices of very low sulphur fuel oil and IFO380 fuel (high sulphur fuel). These fuels are used in shipping. Ships fitted with sulphur scrubbers use IFO380 which is cheaper. Wider bunker fuel spreads lead to super profits for such ships. SBLK have scrubbers fitted to 124 of their 128 ships.

I did not keep a detailed trade journal to be honest. Zim was much higher on premiums. I bought back a few puts at around 50% gains. I also rolled some positions that were down slightly to make my break lower. I mostly had gotten out of the PBR and switched to mostly Zim and SBLK. I completely switched strategies about a week ago though. I rolled everything out 770 days. This made my break even super low and instead of buying shares with premium received i sold more puts against that money, leftovers from SBLK and ZIM I put into PBR puts. Then leftover cash not enough for selling puts against anything into shares of ET just because I love holding that.

Good question. The first thing I would recommend is to educate your self as much as possible on the different apps and investments available. Second is to always keep in mind the person that cares about your investments and money is you, you, and you. Good question. The first thing I would recommend is to educate yourself as much as possible on the different apps and investments available. Second is to always keep in mind the person that cares about your investments and money is you, you, and you. I like Etrade and Sofi for stocks and general trading. There are several other good ones out there. Some allow fractional share purchases and some do not. For crypto, I still prefer Kucoin and Binance. Difficult for Americans but still the better ones that have been around for a long time. My preference for investing in stocks is to find stable companies that have been around for many years paying higher than average dividends. Most of them never seem to be on the front page news but have a great history of paying out and holding share value. It is simple and easy to invest in the companies that are always on the news. However, much more rewarding and self-educating to research other companies that are willing to reward the shareholder. There is money to be made in high-risk trading but you should ask yourself if you really need to take those risks or not and then decide your approach. As one of the popular YouTubers said and I will steal this line from him "you don't lose money in the markets other people take it from you!" It is a nice time to invest when there is blood in the streets and DCA as much as possible. One of the stocks I like to hold and work with that pays a nice dividend is SBLK and for crypto, I like to keep BTC, ETH, and a few altcoins. What a great age you are at to start looking at this and asking for advice. I hope that curiosity makes you successful!

>Even though they have $12b assets $8b liabilities, they seen extremely undervalued compared to other shipping stocks like SBLK and DSX. Star Bulk and Diana are dry bulk shipping. It's a completely different industry and can't be compared to containerships at all. What you should be doing is comparing ZIM to peers like DAC or GSL. What you'd find, if you did so, is that Zim operates asset-light, engaging in long term charters of other companies' ships, and operating on the spot market to profit on the difference. Obviously, the last two years were phenomenal for spot, and Zim made truck loads of cash. As spot rates come down, and the company enters into new, higher rate charters, profits close. Currently, there's nothing to imply a significant long term upside in spot rates that would lead Zim to huge margins. GSL and DAC, on the other hand, operate in the same market, but are the ones owning the ships, and have fixed rate, multi year charters for most of their ships. That means stable, secure cash flow, regardless of market conditions. In a wild market like 2020-2021, they lose some of the upside, but you can lock them in for profit over the next few years, even if the market crashes. Both companies, for instance, could let their ships be used to the end of their charters, immediately scrap them, close up shop, and be worth roughly 2x their current share value. ZIM, on the other hand, will face compressed margins for the foreseeable future, and does not have significant assets beyond cash. If they enter a negative earnings period (highly possible), they'll burn cash. So basically, by buying Zim, you're betting on a surge in spot rates that nothing currently points to existing, in exchange for giving up guaranteed cash flow and value in more stable companies. Not saying that Zim is uninvestable, just pointing out the trade off. But ultimately, please don't compare them to dry bulk or tankerships.

Yes, and he's saying it's a company that's not going to make you money. Dividends come at the cost of share value. SBLK has dropped in share price by 97% since inception, what you're gaining in dividends, the stock is losing in value, so your initial purchase isn't necessarily paying off.

Mentions:#SBLK

SBLK is a good business. Over 90% of their fleet is fitted with scrubbers which allows them to use the cheaper high sulphur fuel. A spread of $250/tonne versus low sulphur fuel gives them a saving of around $4k/ship/day. This is why they can achieve a better TCE than the Baltic dry indices suggest and consequently high profits and high dividends. Whilst dry shipping pricing indices have taken a dip from recent highs, it's possible the market has over reacted.

SBLK, ZIM, AMKBY are all fine long term plays. Great dividends, well run, and profitable. You don't get SPY upside, but you can certainly use the dividend payments for larger growth. There are some economic headwinds, but also some positive outcomes if somehow the Fed manages to pull of a soft landing miracle.

Star Bulk Carrier (SBLK) Short interest way up 32% month over month to 8.2% of float, and stock keep dropping, but still paying huge 30% dividend yield, and consistent 55% operating margins. why such a negative sentiment of it? I don't get it.

You're not likely to get an intelligent response here, because dry bulk shipping is both a sleepy and very misunderstood corner of the broad market, but here's the scoop for a non expert with money in the industry. Dry bulk is having an absolute meltdown. Rates aren't just falling, they're bottoming out. It's effectively armageddon... It's actually like 2 year lows, but the point is the same, the astronomical boosts of a post pandemic tightening are gone, and demand is shattered. China is a major, and I can't emphasize this enough, MAJOR component of drybulk. Moreso capesize than anything else, but across all ship sizes, if China sucks, dry bulk sucks. And China sucks right now. Eagle is an awesome company. But as happens to awesome companies, they command a premium. Coupled with excellent rates, that premium goes up even more. In the end, Eagle was a fantastic company, but probably overpriced. And THEN the bottom fell out. In the end, if you actually want dry bulk exposure, EGLE is a great place to sit. But right now, the answer is that the industry is absolute shit right now. Utter implosion. I'm personally in much more speculative dry bulk than EGLE, and my bleeding is significant. Long term, I still like the industry, and Eagle is in the top two (SBLK). But it's not good for our industry right now.

Honestly. Buy 6500 shares of SBLK. Take 1 year off and reinvest your dividends. At end of 1 year you will thank me.

Basically everything in QQQ is already in VOO. Unless you think the Nasdaq is going to outperform, there’s no reason to buy both. And the returns from IEP and SBLK are not likely to continue forever. When you get dividends, you pay taxes on them each year, so you lose money over time due to missed compounding. If you just buy something that grows, you’re only taxed once, when you sell.
