I agree that there\`s a theoretical risk factor on the laser engraver, but all of them are very easy to eliminate if you own the machine. Of course it will be very dumb to send that kind of job to a 3rd party service, or do it on a machine that you don't know well and it's commonly operated by other people. You have to consider: - These machines are almost always stand alone devices, never connected to the internet. Right there the main attack vector of most digital devices is not possible. - A Laser engraver is not that sophisticated. The machine controller can be the same as on a cnc router or 3d printer. There are a ton of open source solutions for that. The laser controller is a separate "dumb" module with only one function, just as a VFD controller for a CNC spindle or the hot end circuit of a 3d printer. - Even if the controller is closed source, is not that difficult to do a factory reset or firmware reflash. There's a tiny potential risk in that, but realistically, do you think there are many hackers doing phishing scams on laser controller firmware downloads out there?

I remember when NEO was called "Antshares" lol. The logo was a cute lil ant face before the rebrand. A random piece of crypto history that comes to mind is called Chaincoin (CNC) the "pump and hodl" coin of 2017 (which was really a pump and dump). It's less well known than something like Bitconnect but was significant to me because I was new to crypto at the time she l and hadn't seen anything like it before. The clif notes version is that a relatively small YouTuber named Max and his community pumped a totally dead coin from pennies to like $6 with the promise that if everyone held and put their tokens into "masternodes" everyone could make profit, naturally once people started taking profits it all came tumbling down in no time. But when it was spiking it at the kinda intense enthusiasm we saw in the Doge community during their big run up in the last cycle, just on a much smaller scale. Worth digging into the rabbit hole if you're interested.

tldr; A decentralized finance protocol called Conic Finance, built on Ethereum, has been hacked, resulting in a loss of approximately $3.2 million. The exploit targeted the protocol's Ethereum omnipool, prompting Conic Finance to disable deposits. However, the team quickly fixed the vulnerability and assured users that withdrawals were safe. Conic Finance has reached out to the hacker and warned users about potential scams claiming to recover funds. The incident caused a significant drop in the price of Conic Finance's digital asset, CNC, but it has since recovered and is currently trading at $2.90. *This summary is auto generated by a bot and not meant to replace reading the original article. Coldcard doesn't have a camera, not essential, but if you can wait till Q4, their Q1 is scheduled for release about then. Do you think Scrooge McDuck just hoards gold and swims in it? People with more money than they need to live don't just sit on it. They put it at risk and invest it in endeavors that employ everyone who cares to take a job. The velocity of their capital is what drives the economy. I am a small business owner, not wealthy (yet,) but earning a living. Almost all (or maybe all) of my clients are millionaires at minimum. Some inherited their business from a parent after working (hard) in the business for decades, but others are self-made as I will be. This trust fund baby insinuation you make is a farce. They aren't the ones at the top of most businesses. Why is it necessary? My business and many others like mine REQUIRE people with money doing things. They need the value I provide, and I need a cut of the treasure they get to compensate for my services which helps them run their operation, whatever that may be. A person in the factory making widgets on a $500,000 CNC can't do that without the person risking their treasure investing in such equipment. They wouldn't know what to make if it weren't for the rich guy employing an engineer to design the widget, and they wouldn't need to be cranking out 1000 widgets per day if the rich dude wasn't employing sales people to sell the widgets. The rich dude carries all the financial risk. He puts all the pieces together to run a machine that keeps food on the table for many, not just direct employees. Wealthy people increase the velocity of capital, which helps everyone.

I built a mini mining rig in 2017 and cashed in. Ran it for about a year and made about 4x the cost of the machine back and then a good lot. Then traded those funds for a bit and doubled it again. In the end put in $1000 for the rig and pulled out a bit under $10k. But then I gave up and pulled all the cash out cause it was starting to feel like a gambling addiction. Still have the mining rig which is now a regular computer running a CNC machine

First, I go to the local thrift store and take a look at their watch selection. Something with a metal case, stainless or gold preferred for corrosion resistance. Then, I carefully open the back cover. I'll set up the back cover into a CNC laser machine. Once secured in place, etch the seed phrase, **numbered, in order**, onto the inside of the back cover. Once I've verified the text is legible, reinstall the back cover, making sure to use a new gasket (or seal with RTV if it's an old discontinued model). Then, I'll carefully smear the entire watch with petroleum jelly, and [gently insert it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFtHjV4c4uw) into my rectum as deep as possible. Multi-asset wallets are highly preferable, as it can be troublesome having to use a new watch for each additional blockchain's wallet. With over six different blockchain keys safely stored, things are starting to get a bit cramped for me. YMMV.

My new lead also was a drop out. 60% of my work force has at least 2 arrests. I mean it’s not a cushy environment with paid lunches and yoga but fuck. Honestly if you’re struggling you either don’t have work ethic or are to lazy to better yourself through education. I think G-Code is human readable, so I imaging there is some X/Y/Z height positiinging, turning the spindle on; then the milling opertation; then return to zero with safe Z-Height. If you were only using the first 4 character positions, then (I'm guessing) would create the G-code in Vcarve for each position 1,2,3,4 for each alphabet character (each position would be different as the washer is curved, so you would probably only be able to do sequentiually 1 letter at a time, and each position at a time). Then maybe use something like UGS on an airgapped machine to send your hand crafted G-Code to your CNC. Like a home made [Seedhammer](https://twitter.com/SeedHammer/status/1598247830678048768)

Mentions:#CNC
r/BitcoinSee Comment

Just a thought, could you laser or CNC directly onto the washers ? The main risk would be turning your offline seed into a "hot" seed but perhaps there is a way to manually create the G-Code letter by letter

That's ridiculous. It's the 1 reason I haven't bothered taking custody of my own keys. Until there's better solutions for self custody I'll risk my assets stored elsewhere. I was going to CNC my seedphrase on 3 separate, solid, chunks of steel and have them at 3 different highly secure locations that only I know of. Didn't happen.

I'm not affiliated with this project at all, but have a range of steel and titanium seed backup devices. The steel washers + stamps + hammer method is near perfect for most people, but less good for multisig. Specter does produce some nice printable PDFs with the XPUBs and derivation paths, to allow quick scan importing into seedsigner or similar. Over the years there have been numerous salt water etching methods and kits, but none of them approach the simplicity of this solution. I have thought about how to use a standard CNC to mill or laser a backup seed into steel, but how do you do that airgapped ? Maybe there is a open source g-code generator out there that you can save to a MicroSD to program the CNC. I wouldn't run this on a phone or Mac/Windows machine, but I have numerous old Pi2 and Odroid boards laying around, a seedsigner and a PinebookPro. Seedhammer's software, running on a PinebookPro with WiFi/Bluetooth disabled, running a newly flashed OS on MicroSD might be an ideal airgapped solution. According to their twitter the software can import dicerolls, or I believe you can import your own seed (I like the Stadicus method). Pricey, yes, and the metal plates are additional, but comparing the price of the pre-made SeedQR plates, it looks like it could be cost effective after a couple of multisig quorums Of course it will never be cost effective to a 3d printed washer stamp jig, but without this your multisig backup relies on a paper or USB copy of the XPUBs (from Specter) which is not fireproof.

Sure you can divide gold into smaller pieces. If you're out shopping, you got a CNC machine on you could cut the ingots for your payment? No? so you would have to lug around tons of coins of smaller denominations to make sure you can make payments otherwise you would consistently have to overpay/underpay in your transactions. Those check marks are more about practicality than "is it feasible", bitcoin can be split on a whim as well as transported instantly. Things gold can't do in a reasonable amount of time. Those reasons are largely why fiat currency came into existence in the first place.

>Sure, you won't have all the processing power that no one actually makes full use of, and all the fancy features, but if you don't have enough money, you have to compromise things. A $100 phone is very capable of doing whatever a phone can be used for. I actually need that to help make money. Like one way I make money is app development. Like AR stuff. But thanks for ignoring what I said. # 2. Most everything else I have is $1k+ >why would you own an over $1000 PC, a 3D printer, and a CNC machine. to make money. Each makes money. This isn't an over the night thing and I'm not doing a measuring contest with some random joe blow. If you don't want to put an ounce of thought in things, then fine. >considering how much cheaper 3D printers are than say 5 years ago. About the time I got my 3D printer (2015).... # Only an idiot will think I bought everything over night, and not see it has taken years to get what I have to make money.

Mentions:#CNC

No, phones will not all cost $1000, that's absolutely not true. There are tons of phones that costs like $100 or even less, and it's extremely unlikely that we get +900% inflation overnight. Sure, you won't have all the processing power that no one actually makes use of, and all the fancy features, but if you don't have enough money, you have to compromise things. A $100 phone is very capable of doing whatever a phone can be used for. If you're poor like you claim, why would you own an over $1000 PC, a 3D printer, and a CNC machine. PCs are another piece of equipment where you don't need to spend that much money for most use cases, and you must have a very high end 3D printer if it costs that much, considering how much cheaper 3D printers are than say 5 years ago. Life is unfair, and yeah most people can't just afford everything they want, so maybe you shouldn't spend that much money on electronics if you cannot afford it.

Mentions:#CNC
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

So when I said >Because nearly everything cost $1k+ it's scary. There is 2 things 1. The writing is on the wall at this point. If our economy doesn't get fixed, sooner than later phones will cost that much. Like over the past 3 years I seen a coke go from $1 to $1.20 to $1.50 to $2 to $2.20 and now $2.40. The federal has an emergency meeting today because they are worried banks across the USA won't be able to pay back their debt, international banks are collapsing and they have to fix that now, and countries like UK selling our debt. Basically, we are heading towards bad times here 2. Most everything else I have is $1k+. My PC is over that. To replace my 3D printer it would cost that. CNC also cost about that. And so on. While a critical failure is rare enough where you have to replace the entire thing. I worry about it because I can't exactly afford it.

If you're serious, your real earning potential is far more likely to come from your skillset. Mechanical Engineers in the automotive and space industry are making solid 6-figure salaries and up. Too many ME students have no experience with production (welding, CNC, CMM) which gives you a leg up. Do your engineering undergrad at a community college (no bigger scam than student loans), and then transfer to one of the big ME schools, and you'll have a relatively easy ticket to a fat salary that is growing with automation.

This is the most ideal scenario. Besides... I reckon all that cash for what is still regarded as speculative investment at best and gambling at worst can be actually reinvested to something more stable. Make passive income; I am always raised with the belief that "only money can consistently make money." It's not hard to figure that someone that made it off as a millionaire during the runs could probably figure out some things... Open a business, buy a land, buy a house and run real estate agency, insert some cash to mutual funds for that "thoughtless investment", buy equipment to make YouTube channels, find other more expensive hobbies (i.e. hobbies like CNC machining, woodworking, and many other stuffs), etc.

This doesn't actually secure the design, and if there's any flaws in your encryption you've just published your design to the world. If someone wants to patent a process, design, or technology the mechanisms already exist to do that, there's no need to add NFTs into this. Also, as someone into hobbyist 3D printing, the tech is still probably a decade away from being widespread or cheap enough to be used in most consumer product use cases, right now it's mostly used for product development and prototyping. Also 3D Printing, or Additive Manufacturing if you want to be fancy, is only actually suitable for certain types of designs regardless of material type and other concerns, so you can't actually replace even a majority of manufacturing with 3D Printing. There also remains the problem of actually getting materials to the printer, which still have to come from a central manufacturing plant, and since you need to ship them to your "local factory" anyways you may as well take advantage of economies of scale and produce everything centrally and just ship the finished product to local warehouses. For an indication of how 3D Printing is likely to actually progress in the professional space look at CNC machines. They started as a super expensive novelty and have gradually gotten cheaper, smaller, and more widespread, but the pace of advancement has also slowed substantially over the last 30 years, and they haven't replaced every tool in a machine shop and they're rarely used for any kind of mass produced and widely used item.

You are caught up on the whole modern technology thing. Modern firearms are essentially unchanged since the late 19th century. Yes, they use better metals, more precise quality control and the like… But many are still the original design, or some variation on the theme. 1911’s & browning hi-powers are still in production today, functionally identical to 100 year old guns made from blocks of metal on simple machine tools. A CNC milling machine is just a more precise & faster way to make a part. It’s simply not that hard to make guns without a computer. To quote a Michael Z. People are stupid. I told my bestie to buy at 9k, he told me that it was a scheme and that btc has no value. I told him what I know. Now, he is asking about cryptos, NFTs and metaverse because he hears that from CNC, Fox and other mass media. He is wondering if it would be good to invest, because the metaverse is the future. He is just stupid like many people.

Use your education to engineer your own products. Why go work for someone? Use your gains from crypto and invest in yourself, buy a CNC machine or something. Then when that investment pays off invest back into crypto. You'll be a lot more satisfied working for yourself than some crappy boss/company. And when you're get ROI on your investment in yourself you can put profits into back into other investments/crypto etc.

Thanks for reply. What is a CNC machinist? The way you relate to saying blockchain LFG makes me think they are not too different?

You can engrave your seed words (by hand — don't use a CNC mill) into a bar/ingot/slug of some metal with a high melting point. This has the advantage of being impervious to water, fire, mold, and insects. Depending on your particular choice of metal, it may additionally be impervious to most chemicals and acids. Keep in mind that a house fire can get very hot (1500°F, 815°C), and some common metals (tin, zinc, aluminium) will melt at those temperatures. Brass is an okay choice. Don't use iron, as it flakes when it oxidizes (rusts).

this setup/m8 washers fit neatly into waterproof outdoor CNC pill storage canisters, if you wanna keep them all together. No idea how they react to heat though, maybe the canister would fuse and melt to the washers (they're normally aluminium).
