"I was a part of this project with so much hype around it. Back in 2021 they wanted to make this huge metavers market which you could do everything at. (Games, Concerts, sales, tading NFTs etc) At the time it was okay to ask for time and support. But it is 2023 and they are still "working on" their project without any real progress. It is still what one can call pre-alpha version. What they lack in progress, they make up for with monthly land sales, meaningless NFT release and avatar shops for their unfinished metaverse!" Hate to be the one who breaks it to you, but that's not a project. That's a scam. DCL and the like are fairly legit in terms of having people who still believe in the metaverse, even if they're wrong. But the rest are pure scammers. I even found one (and called it out) in 2021 that promised Unreal Engine 5 on their metaverse platform. Bunch of Scottish hardnuts, organised crims, hairdressers, tattooists, wannabe rockstars, etc. You get the picture. Those are your "crypto devs".

Journalism today, she should be fired from the reporter position, clearly not checking any source but taking a known broken metrics from dappradar (not just DCL), everything DCL has is opensource even the userbase, the author couldn't even bother to check and same goes for this thread. You have catalyst monitor from github https://decentraland.github.io/catalyst-monitor/ that shows concurent users, or if you want daily metrics you have something like https://dcl-metrics.com/

Honestly the problem with decentraland is that there's not much there so people don't want to build and people don't want to build as there's no people there If it can overcome this and push itself as a platform for interactive websites, rather than games, I think it'll do well The games on DCL suck, but the 3D modeling can be very good + the direct integration with Metamask could be very powerful

I'm a land owner on DCL, was super bullish on it when I bought in last year (and before FB renamed to Meta and there was the metaverse craze) However, I just can't see how it can scale. The game is laggy af every single time you load it, got even worse during the craze period. How the heck can a virtual 'world' scale when majority of the users can't even 'walk around' the 'world' properly?

Game or not, I'm not seeing the appeal. Marketeers have been promising that 5G tech will unleash all this mobile connectivity and enable all these "wonderful" things, but my home internet is 5G, and DCL barely runs on it. I have to ignore the timed out screen and let it finish loading behind the scenes and then I can enter. I get that the desktop app is new, but without any local caching, it absolutely crushes your connection and crashes after 15 minutes. Even wandering around inside, I found some "free" games to play. Click on the interactive and go to my wallet to allow it, and I find that while the transaction itself is 0, the transaction fee is $10. The cheapest piece of LAND is 4 months' pay. Many interactives don't work, the graphics make Minecraft look good, and it seems that all anyone does is gamble.

Metaverse was a hype bc of Fb turned Meta; it has been there for some time but it is still early. I really love the Metaverse idea and bought quite some MANA and SAND. But when you go into DCL or Sandbox, there are not much to offer. Land in both Metaverse are getting quite expensive, but you won’t find anyone renting them yet. So in a 4 word conclusion, “Great, but still early”.

I think Cardano started off slow and was late to have smart contracts so people automatically label the blockchain as “bad.” There’s a few metaverses launching on Cardano, notably Pavia which has plans to be interoperable with DCL and Sandbox. If a few projects become very successful then I think views will change for the better.

The issue here is that all of this is done on purpose and it’s only going to get worse, this is not an accident by any means IMO. Look at the skyrocketing crime rate as well, this is not going to just go away. I think we are going to see something much worse than we saw in 2008 and I remember 2006 and 2007 being some of the best years financially for all of my friends and business partners, I had some friends who had Ferrari 599GTB brand new and million dollar houses, who went into bankruptcy. The majority of my family members either lost their job their business and were left stranded all within a year or two. If you have the money to never take it out and you’ve got everything else you need then you don’t really have much to worry about I think crypto is a safe bet but otherwise I would recommend potentially slimming down and spreading out your investments in more tangible goods you can never go wrong with buying tangible goods in my opinion because they’re only going to keep going up in price many things that I own have gone up in price more than bitcoin the past eight months. I think the smart move would be to de risk and do you leverage your assets. Also I think NFT will suffer the most because they operate on a short term hype system unless they are crypto punks or a top three NFT. You can see the NFT markets have dumped tremendously and if the market dumps they will become worthless and never recover like icos in early 2018. I think the metaverse is the future and I have a bunch of properties in DCL/SAND/UD. i’m just so sure that the market is going to dump that I don’t see myself holding many coins going into 2022. Property/items will always survive, any coin under top 3 could die forever, active communities like dcl/sand rarely if ever die. There will always be people playing these games and trading items on here but there will never always be people holding a bag of worthless coins. That’s why we have seen some coins for 95% and never recover, d2jsp.org has been around for 20 years and is still one of the most active trading forms people literally sell their houses and cars for forum gold on there I would say they are the original cryptocurrency. That is a perfect representation of where the Metaverse is going and the strength and resilience of it, people still pay tens of thousands of dollars for a world of Warcraft items.

I am content to hodl everything and buy more if it seems cheap (and watch as it immediately dips further). I am in profit overall. I would be MUCH more in profit though if I hadn't wasted money on shitcoins (they were the sort of shitcoins that seemed promising). MANA is the biggest gainer. It's made me enough profit to buy something that would make me very happy. But I truly believe in the project and I'm not selling for a very long time indeed. Decentraland is not a game and was never intended to be. I've developed and build in DCL for over a year, and yeah, it really is shit. But it's NOT a game. It's a metaverse. The Sandbox is a metaverse being designed with gaming in mind, but in and of itself, is also NOT a game. The Sandbox is fucking cringe IMO, they massively prioritize corporate and celebrity endorsement. Make no mistake, you are not the audience, you are the product. Both these projects have potential to turn a profit for investors, creators, and users. I certainly have. But you need to see them for what they are. Blankos Block Party is a good NFT integrated game, actually a lot of fun. But the NFTs are locked in a closed system, making them kind of pointless. God's Unchained is a great game, fun to play, complete crypto and NFT ecosystem. This is the standard by which all other crypto game try, and fail, to compete with. The overwhelming majority of crypto and NFT games are investment vehicles first, and games second, if at all. But again, I reiterate, metaverses are not games.

You need to study metaverses, and DCL, a bit more. It's not about a gaming experience. It's about economics - no more and no less. Product launches, art galleries, conspicuous consumption of rare or unique digital products. It's a city/world in cyberspace and it's owned by people and corporations who can do with it as they please. I'm sorry you don't see the potential of this, but with or without you, there will be MANY metaverse worlds in the future, and DCL is simply the biggest and the most famous. Like the wording on Rizla cigarette papers says: "It's what you make of it". I mean, THIS looks really shit, doesn't it: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7g-ANr7MEwQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7g-ANr7MEwQ) Well, perhaps not. Perhaps it looks like a BARGAIN if you had the wherewithal to buy some land and build something on it, considering that it's NEW YORK and is bound to come up in the next 20 years from then. Or just run away to Kansas, because it's so unpleasant. Well, those people who ran away aren't doing as well as those who bought and built, or who simply bought and sat on it, and waiting for others to build all around them and their land increased in value. Sorry you can't see the potential in this.

>there's an opportunity for improvement, creativity and new brands... she also mentioned that the UX on both platforms is rather clunky... I completely agree >But overall, this is not to say that they will "fail" but rather, that there is room for improvement. Whether DCL / Sandbox make those improvements or other players enter and compete, I still can't say. DCL and Sandbox have first movers advantage and a history developing. They are in a position to evolve in the space. I personally don't actually enjoy either, but I've seen very cool things happening on both >Cautious optimism is my approach. Right now, I can't fork out $12,000 for a piece of land on either of the platforms. Forget about success/failure of the platforms, I feel like just as in the real world, many investors like myself are already priced out of the market. Yup this is absolutely fair, but 1 year ago today, you could buy land on Axie, Sandbox and DCL for around a hundred bucks >So where do we go? Is there going to be a platform that allows us to pool our funds? Yes, this is already happening in a couple ways. 1. Guilds are forming and creating methods of cooperative ownership 2. Sharding is happening, it's still very early, Niftex is an example. But the ability to tokenize and NFT will definitely be a part of the future in the space. >Can we find other ways to make passive income directly from LAND on a platform? Yes, all 3 of the projects I mentioned already intend to serve as portals to other projects, games, businesses and content. All 3 will have rental mechanics or profit shared from user activity. I think a key point to keep in mind is that you don't have to own land to participate. It is one form of ownership/activity but it's one of many. There are already architects and design groups selling their services to build in Sandbox and DCL >These are all questions that devs need to address in order for this all to become more community and less monopoly... Happy to hear your thoughts. All 3 of these projects encourage these answers to come from the community themselves. We're still very early, the best approach currently is to be involved. Play to your own interests and skillsets. Land ownership is great for those who can afford it or were lucky enough to get in early etc but it's just one part. By being informed and active you'll also find out about other projects sooner which may open doors to enter on the good ones and understand the red flags of the bad ones. Check out Aavegotchi, super cheap land still available, niche project building incredibly well slowly. There are lots of small plays like this with plenty of potential. It's looking very likely that there will be many metaverses not a single winner. Wow that was long

Good question. Best way is to connect with a community. If you’re into metaverse, dive into the DCL, CV, or Somnium Space discord. If you’re into art, jump into some of the art platform discords. Once you’re in there everyday and are actively talking with folks, these new projects surface all the time and best of all you have trusted people to get feedback from. I stopped coming to Reddit after I discovered NFTs and all the dapp discords tbh.

This is where I disagree, the foundation of DCL seems broken and I never hear any news from the dev team about attempting to fix it. It is a blank canvas, but it's a blank canvas with holes in it, and the only thing you habe to create art on it is some broken childrens crayons. There are also 10 artists who want to draw, but only one canvas. - The limited land breaks the game - The choice of graphics is pretty terrible and extremely limiting. - Polygon limitations on plots drastically limit the complexity of scenes you are allowed to build. - The physics and controls seem pretty terrible, which makes it difficult to create any compelling games. - There is no VR implementation, which seems like almost a necessity for a world like this. - Avatar design is extremely limited, and you should be able to create unique avatars like VRChat. - I haven't used them, but it's my impression that the creative toolbox is pretty weak and difficult to use, a game like this needs to be accessible to artists and kids if you want to see creativity flourish.

Totally agree with you when it comes to the recent pump in price and the investors following it. But, ive made a lot of money and friends in dcl and you have to see it for more than the graphics and less of a "ready player pne" future of our world. What it really is; a series of discords and social media platforms where artists and programmer collaborate on innovative ideas for passive income. Mana could be worth 0.01 and id still have interest in dcl. (I always get paid in eth) The point is, very few people understand it and those that do recognize the dcl platform is just one small baby step in a very interesting direction, wether on DCL/mana or some other platform. Whats going on IS innovative an exciting, but it's just the beginning of something different but greater.

Definitely agree that DCL is way behind in development for how old it is now. I just don't see the founders sticking to their plan of backing out as a red flag. Maybe I'm delusional, but I bought into this knowing that it looked like hot garbage, but also knowing that enough people could get hyped about it that it would succeed regardless. So far that's worked out very nicely and I don't see any reason for it to suddenly change.

Definitely holding on to a bit of MANA just in case, though.

I build in Decentraland, like custom galleries, buildings, etc. Can confirm, it is shit. A playground for the filthy rich, and a poor one at that. They're always touting the DAO, decentralization, player ownership... it's all bullshit. The decentralization is an illusion, and the majority of assets are owned by the very few. SDK is a nightmare, but still the best among all the modern metaverses. My ROI in DCL/MANA is pretty solid, won't lie, but the project is a nightmare to use, when it even loads. I don't see a future for it long term, because development is far too slow, and has been outdated since the day it launched. There is l great profit potential there though, flipping land and such. Just don't hold on too long.

Personally have some exposure to $SAND and not decentraland because I feel what DCL is trying to achieve is too difficult at the moment. It’s basically GTA online with customisable land, which feels like it will be a nightmare to optimise and make it smooth and playable. On the other hand, Sandbox uses voxels, which are arguably not as aesthetically pleasing but i would rather look at some high quality voxels than badly-rendered regular 3d models. That makes the game significantly easier to run and voxels are tried and tested and super popular - look at minecraft and roblox. Huge partnerships have been confirmed as well, with Deadmau5 and snoop dogg having their concerts in Sandbox lined up. Other pop culture brands like the Walking Dead have also partnered up with the game.

Decentraland MANA. Why? Because it's the most interesting economic ecosystem I've ever seen. It has an interplay between ETH's gas fees, the strong market for NFTs in the DCL universe, and the equally strong market for LAND. LAND is very finite and unique, and is an NFT in its own right. LAND can only be bought with MANA, and MANA gets burned every time LAND is bought. It's administered by a decentralised, autonomous and fairly democratic DAO and its developers are MANA holders. In this highly sophisticated and interesting economy, you get serious businesses being built and traded. Gambling platforms, art galleries, etc. They're actually there, right now. I am a huge fan of DCL. Even though it's been around a long time, it's still SUPER early. People are only just getting the grasp of 8-bit pixellated cats and punks as NFTs. But this thing is WAY ahead. The potential of it is staggering, it's constantly being developed, it's gamified in a way young people will appreciate, understand and like, and it attracts serious people. People who have visions and the capital to make it happen. I like it a lot.

Please listen up for insane speculation.** I decided to test a theory we all kind of knew intuitively-- cool looking crypto logos (ATOM, ETH, DCL, SOL, etc.) should do well because I mean they look cool amirite? So, I scientifically put every coin in the top 30 in a google sheet and gave them an objective *coolness* rating of 1-10 and then their current market cap at that time. I then made it into a graph, and scaled it logarithmically to make the data fit into my conclusion I'm shoehorning in right now better. Which is actually the following: ***TURNS OUT:*** **An** ***average*** **looking logo, ranked 4-6 or so, has a higher correlation with higher market caps. So don't make a logo that's too cool looking, like UNI or DOT, and don't make one that's too fuckin ugly like VET.** Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

I think you’re missing the point here. How many different games have you played where you pay fiat for some sort of unique, game specific in game currency? What if you could earn that currency in one game, and bring it to another? That’s the idea here! A token specifically used for gaming within the atari ecosystem. It’s got little use at the moment outside of the DCL casinos, but I think use cases will expand!

My higher risk concern is that the idea of it will be lost as a short term fad OR another project will come along and do it better. But, I think the upside is very strong. If DCL ends up being used as a place where people start buying things at auction houses, or the Atari casino, etc. The reward will be very nice.

Hi, that is an interesting question! 🙂 1st of all, we are all fans of Decentraland, however, Etherland cannot be compared to DCL as it is a gaming concept with interactions happening in a virtual world. Etherland is mirroring the physical world with existing real estates and a front-end Estatepedia with real information: a bridge between the digital and real world. If a comparison could be made, what Etherland is doing is to empower people over the growing digitalisation while Decentraland is plunging users into a virtual world. There are many interesting information in the medium . [https://etherland-news.medium.com/](https://etherland-news.medium.com/)
