Exactly - blockchain integration just adds more features. It’s like seeing 4G LTE in 2008 and saying “nah we’re staying with 3G”

Sure. I'm doing that. Works great. (assuming you're talking about local wifi, not LTE or something like that)

You have 5G? Damn all I get is LTE.

Fuck off with your shitty wallet, ape. >Device data, such as your computer's or mobile device's operating system type and version, manufacturer and model, browser type, screen resolution, RAM and disk size, CPU usage, device type (e.g., phone, tablet), IP address, unique identifiers (including identifiers used for advertising purposes), language settings, mobile device carrier, radio/network information (e.g., WiFi, LTE, 4G), and general location information such as city, state or geographic area. There was a recent article about Helium that they are naming their new nodes 5G but nodes are supporting only LTE. Idea is cool though.

Not when the claim you're making is the speed of it, would you make a claim of a new video codec transcoding faster than another, when the "faster" one was also conveniently on a newer faster phone with a 5G connection vs a older model with an LTE one? I used to install / upgrade POS systems, and many upgrades were purely for speed, same ISP, same merchant, only the terminal itself changed. It absolutely makes a difference, this example gave a difference withing seconds, completely ignorable.

Geez, so they just admit they are lying? 😂 "We admit that we call this setup Helium 5G vs. LTE because it sounds cooler. If everybody else in the industry can, so can we," FreedomFi says on its FAQ page. But "everybody else" isn't doing that. Only the participants in the Helium ecosystem are. "5G is a sexier name," Leotis says. "The FreedomFi gateway and the core that's built on the Magma platform are 5G ready, but the radios themselves, they are LTE today."

>I’m not arguing against you because my knowledge starts and ends with the book but in the book the miners were in the big block camp the entire time(lead by Chinese pools) up until the last minute when failure was imminent. > >Is that not the correct version of events? There was so much controversy back then. It's hard to find an unbiased history because everyone involved was extremely incentivized for things to go their way. Around that time Bitcoin dot com and dot org began infighting. You'd go to one and click 'BUY BITCOIN' and you'd be given BCH "the real btc". This is when the Bitcoin subreddit was taken over by the most diehard conservative maxis, soon all further discussion died. Developers back then were all interested in larger blocks, to have room to build on. Miners were interested in small blocks, to collect more fees. User opinions weren't considered or polled from what I remember, other than their voting with dollars, in which case there were times both coins held almost equal value. It just doesn't make sense from a user perspective to want a chain that has arbitrarily high fees with zero complexity. Or from a developer perspective. The only beneficiary are miners, who have the only real mechanism for voting in the end anyway. So I assume things went the way they did because of the incentives and power miners had pushed them into locking down all discussion (even to this day) which I think had a large impact on retail. There was a mass exodus of developers then which have never returned, and to be fair BCH has zero complexity to this day even with 32mb blocks so maybe they're onto something. If the price of BTC didn't go up faster than BCH back when they were equal I think retail would just pick whichever had the largest gains and BTC would've been in the shadows. The biggest thing I remember from back then clearly are **all** ideas were being censored by the Bitcoin community. That hasn't changed so I don't think they care much what users want still. There's no coherent agreement for the future anyway. I think once inflation goes away (it is halved every 4 years) and fees replace it, users will just find the next best chain that's cheaper like BCH LTE or Doge being as impartial as possible, so to me the 1mb decision seems very short sighted. 2mb and collect 0.01% for using "the computer layer" or really any other idea would be more sustainable for everyone, but less pay for miners today so they'd never vote/fork for it.

Satellites, no. There is sooo much that goes into that, legally and financially that there is no path towards decentralized or crowdfunded satellite service in the near future. Not only that, but using mobile devices with satellites is difficult, spotty, and has throughput that makes dialup look good. If you've ever used an iridium phone you know the struggle. Mobile internet, however, could be a different story. The frequency regulations for that are already established enough that small fish are able to try their luck. If someone was able to take some of the open source LTE technology out there, package it up with a small tower and router package, then figure out how to handle the FCC application process through a DAO, you could create something similar to helium with broadband internet.

If people are going to become their own bank then you need a separate tablet and treat it like a bank. Don't have your keys, 12 word pass phrases, or wallets apps on your daily driver devices. I have a separate android tablet, no LTE card, no Google account. Side load your wallet apps. Since there is no LTE you can never be tempted to 2FA with texts. I put all my passphrases in KeePass so it's all local. The wifi is never on when I'm not at home or traveling. When I have to do trades, stake, transfer, or buy something, that's when I turn on the wifi. I'm ordering a tablet so I can install sailfish or the secure Android so I can update apps easier and Google is not involved. I do have my 2FA apps on my daily drivers so that both devices are needed to do a transaction or even to login to my CEX, DEX, or wallets. This is just the bare minimum you should be doing if you are going to be your own bank. It's actually not as inconvenient as this all sounds and really protects you.
