I'm still up and was up pretty decently until Captain Idiot decided to go on some foreign adventures. A couple of weeks ago I was up over 6% for the year, and now I am up about a little under 2%. Not surprisingly individual stocks have taken my biggest hits. Like MSFT or BAM both down around 18% I think. Most of my money is in more defensive/steady stocks or more broadly-diversified ETFs. I just listened to the Real Eisman Playbook podcast featuring Tom Gober, who is blowing the whistle on private equity companies including BAM for some shady offshore shell companies they own and use as reinsurers for their own purposes. Youtube TV, *by itself*, is like $82 or something right? Most of the "cable replacement streaming" options are similarly ballpark. Add in netflix, disney+, ESPN and you're already over $125. That's still just TV/movies, haven't even gotten to things like spotify, audible, or "per single creator" shit like onlyfans, all which I assume are included in a "monthly streaming subscriptions" total. If things like "twitch subs" or "youtube superchats" are counted too that's probably even more still. For lots of people, the high seas are murky, and adblockers sound scary. Companies will just milk those people till they're completely dry. There's also the free trial subscriptions which automatically turn into annual subscriptions that catch a *LOT* of people out. Or they get "1st year" at a really good price, and forget all about it, then BAM the year two sub hits. $125 sounds very plausible to me, sadly.

Almost like I'm back in that time period of 2022 where I mostly ignored the portfolio, let it do its thing, and then looked back in 2023 for the fun stuff. Anyway. It's been a mixed January to start off 2026, with the most brutal losses being this last week. Yet even then NVDA and GOOGL managed to have a positive week, and 4/6 of the below have had a positive year so far: * AMD -7.74% 5-Day, +10.54% YTD, -8.84% off ATH. (January) * NVDA +2.07% 5-Day, +2.5% YTD, -7.68% off ATH. (November) * GOOGL +3% 5-Day, +8% YTD, looks like it's just about at ATH. * MSFT -7.47% 5-Day, -11.03% YTD, -20.6% off ATH. (November) * RDDT -16.79% 5-Day, -21.58% YTD, -33.41% off ATH. (September) * RKLB -7.75% 5-Day, +14.78% YTD, -16,85% off ATH. (January) Definitely not too surprised to see MSFT take a hit like this, or to see NVDA or AMD cool off a bit. I miss the days where this sub was rabid about buying NVDA and calling it a day. Huh, look at that. After twenty years of flushing money down the toilet on solar panels they want to talk about nukes finally. I guess better late than never. IMO forget about the fuel. You need to be looking at the companies that design and build plants. Westinghouse APR1000 reactors like the ones just completed at Vogtle in Georgia and the Small Modular Reactor design currently being built in Ontario CA with GE Veronica/Hitachi units. Depending on footprint and capacity requirements these are modern reactors and each offers pros and cons around scalability, fueling, output, etc. Tickers: BAM CCJ GEV These thirsty AI data centers require lots of power and they don’t ramp up and ramp down on a load curve that could be met with solar or wind. Always on means base load generation is needed. Nukes are the main technology that’s “green” that can support that. Politicians will work across the aisle to get these types of projects federal approval and funding.

This is a difficult question to answer because the best performing hedge funds these days tend to be multi-manager platforms that have (a) dozens of individual pods running disparate strategies (with counter-balancing by a central book to manage any excess risk) and (b) each pod usually takes anywhere from 20-40 long/short positions in a quarter. These guys run extremely low beta with tight risk management (you lose 8% of capital and you're fired at most of these platforms). Their strategy is to squeeze 2-4% alpha returns each year with 10-20x leverage (made possible by their low beta which protects downside). These guys (Citadel, BAM, Millennium, P72) have returned consistent 10% returns net-of-fees over the last decade and a half through significant market turbulence. And their fees are insanely high due to a pass-thru management fee model that increases the effective % AUM fee from standard 2% to closer 10%+ (investors directly pay for salaries/operating expenses). They basically have built alpha extraction machines that deliver high single digit to low double digit returns every year regardless of market volatility and they pay a high proportion of that alpha to employees. These guys obviously have no real concentration or even a real long-term investment thesis you can track.

I get the analogy, but it kinda falls apart because Tesla isn’t lifting weights here, they’re rewriting the rulebook on how autonomy even works. Waymo/Cruise-style demos are basically lifting a very specific 10-pound dumbbell: mapped route, limited conditions, curated ODD. Tesla’s trying to build the general-purpose strength to lift any weight in any gym. Different sport entirely. And yeah, in the real world most companies show incremental progress. Totally fair point. But Tesla’s approach isn’t incremental by design, they aren’t building the “highway only mode,” then the “city only mode,” then the “left turns after 3pm” mode. They’re training one brain to handle the whole thing. That’s why a single demo doesn’t tell you much about whether that brain is actually generalizing or just memorizing a loop. If Tesla trotted out a single autonomous ride tomorrow, people would (rightly) say: “Cool, now do it at night. Now in the rain. Now with construction. Now in Boston. Now during a solar eclipse.” A one-off demo doesn’t validate the thing they’re trying to build. None of this means Tesla is guaranteed to nail it, obviously. But pretending a flashy PR run is some magic indicator of technological maturity is rough logic. Waymo did their demos a decade ago and still can’t scale outside tightly groomed ODDs. Cruise aced demos then faceplanted in real deployment. If Tesla’s gamble pays off, it’ll look like “nothing nothing nothing… BAM, widespread rollout.” If it doesn’t, sure, they’ll have overreached. But holding them to the demo standard of systems built on a completely different architecture is just comparing apples to orbital rockets.

Yes. A big example for me would be something like Brookfield, who has so many public entities at this point it looks like the GE organization chart joke from "30 Rock." I can research Brookfield to a significant degree, but I'm not realistically going to analyze every aspect of the company.
