So far: SGHC KEYS calls and ZD puts are correct SMMT UCTT calls and BMRN puts are wrong Tomorrow we'll see about DOCN NRG calls and WLK puts. I made XMTR a strangle, so it is automatically "correct", but will only make money with a large move. I use delta ~25 options, these have a leverage that provides about 3:1 or larger returns when we hit our targets, so we are still profitable so long as we have big moves and are 40% or better accuracy.
Was talking about BMRN and not BMNR 🙃
BMRN just can’t get a break above the $50-$55 range. I think it’s one that will in time. How much time that is I have no idea.

BMRN. Price got hit when a potential competitor to their top drug, Voxzogo, released positive phase 2 clinical trial results. Then again when the whole biotech sector took a hit upon the announcement of RFK HHS pick. Outside of all of this, Large Cap Growth Healthcare stocks have been largely out of favor for the last year+ due to generalist investors/ fund managers in large growth favoring tech and AI while biotech-specific hedge funds tend to focus on smaller players with big catalysts. Competition has been overblown as the drug just reported phase 2 results a few months ago and even if all goes well it won’t be commercialized for multiple years, and even then won’t take as much market share as the market has priced in. Their most recently approved drug, Roctavian, has had muted sales way below expectations but there is some signs they could pick up which would just be an added bonus at this point. Currently trading mid to low $60s but probably worth at least $85-100 as is.
You’re absolutely right to stick with your system when evaluating plays like DRUG. Sure, it had a massive spike, but with heavy volume and a history of dilution, it didn’t check the boxes for a sustainable move. Most stocks that pump like this end up with a rug pull, and without solid news or the right conditions, it’s too risky. Chasing every pump can lead to big losses if the fundamentals or conditions aren’t there, so it’s smart to pass when it doesn’t fit your strategy. There are, however, a few biotech stocks that could be poised for solid gains without the same level of risk. MYNZ Mainz Biomed is advancing in cancer diagnostics, while BMRN BioMarin and EDIT Editas Medicine are leading the way in gene therapies and CRISPR technology. These offer stronger setups for growth compared to the gamble that DRUG presented.
The biotech sector is full of cutting-edge advancements, driving explosive growth opportunities. From gene-editing to innovative diagnostics, companies are developing life-changing technologies. MYNZ Mainz Biomed is a standout with its promising cancer diagnostics, particularly in colorectal cancer, positioning it for significant growth as trials progress. Then there’s BMRN BioMarin, a leader in rare disease therapies, and EDIT Editas Medicine, which is pushing forward with CRISPR gene-editing. As biotech continues to surge, these stocks are set up for major gains, much like the massive moves we’ve seen recently with DRUG and STEC!
I think it’s fair to say that BioMarin’s (BMRN) yearlong promise of big positive changes for Investor Day was a bust. Down 5 today, down almost 10 more after hours. Apparently cutting huge chunks of vital employees and pinning all your hope on a drug likely to have significant competition in the near future was not a winning strategy. Who could have predicted… except everyone who works there. It was a moribund place before this happened. Gonna be a funeral wake now. Someone needs to buy this company and put it out of its misery.
BMRN created a cure for my child’s genetic disorder but it’s gonna cost me $2.9 million out of pocket

The adcom meeting was a unanimous vote supporting approval and that was on June 9th. Almost every telegraphed FDA approval this year went down or sideways on approval date. BMRN went down on roctavian approval last week. Expected approval -> Priced in. Will be shocked and humbled if this moons tomorrow.
Near zero volume on BMRN options. While i have held BMRN for several years, even i would avoid options as there isnt a trading market here. If you want to bet on BMRN, shares are the play.

probably gonna buy more BMRN calls. It dumped on earnings but everyone knows the only thing that matters for this company is the FDA decision. Moon if approval. Riots if declined.

What you think of $BMRN now ?
wouldn't mind. Shorted some puts for august or September can't remember but it's a Vega play for me. Wouldn't mind assignment. Their platform has been de risked so its a relatively safe biotech play. If you're into biotech check out BMRN. Pre-approval run-up has started. Expect it to hit 120 before approval and 160$+ afterwards. Good for options. Got 70$ leaps calls and might add up some 95$ calls

aait Og's - half assd DD here **BMRN** \- catalyst coming up Sat 11/20 (**medication already approved for use in EU**) The FDA is scheduled to rule on BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc.'s NDA for **Vosoritide**, an investigational, once daily injection for treating children with achondroplasia, the most common form of disproportionate short stature in humans. BMRN damnnnnnnn what a candle
BMRN 95$ calls for dec 17 fda might approve their drug in November solid gamble
Off topic, but have you looked at all at BMRN and it's drug Vosoritide, which is also seemingly on a runway to FDA approval?
Well I do believe that investors have a bleak view on biotech in general and gene therapy in particular. I also believe that some of the fda‘s recent decisions were mistakes but I still trust it going forward. Let‘s not forget that the FDA is a highly capable institution which makes science based decisions and since Vosoritide has no serious side effects afaik, I do expect them to approve this one. So to summarise: yes I agree that there is uncertainty around fda decisions at the moment but I think that investors are overestimating BMRN‘s risk.
What are your thoughts about negative sentiment following the Astellas clinical trial? A single death from gene therapy seems to me to be small peas and largely media FUD when contrasted other drug therapies, but that said in both that instance and in the case of BMRN's drug, neither condition is in itself life threatening if left untreated. I wonder if the FDA may reconsider putting this on ice until negative sentiment is forgotten with gene therapy drugs considering it would the the safest political option here. Do you think the FDA could reconsider approval of this gene therapy in light of this recent death from another gene therapy drug given that potential (although rather limited) risk?
check out my DD on BMRN. It's undervalued by 50-65% and as an upcoming catalyst. enjoy the weekend
I would consider most genetics technology companies to be pretty risky. A lot of them won't see profit until many years in the future. That' being said, here are a few that I've been keeping my eyes on recently: Crispr Therapeutics (CRSP) CRISPR Therapeutics focuses on the manufacturing and marketing of biological transformative gene-based medicines and other related products. Biomarin Pharmaceutical (BMRN) Biomarin Pharmaceutical is known to be one of the world’s leaders in developing and marketing innovative biopharmaceuticals for rare disease driven genetic causes. Invitae (NVTA) Invitae operates as a genetic information company. They specializes in providing information for genetic diagnostics, preimplantation and carrier screening for inherited disorders, miscarriage analysis, and hereditary cancer. Natera (NTRA) Natera is a genetic testing company that focuses on providing DNA testing across multiple areas. The company offers Panorama, a non-invasive prenatal test.
I know I normally don’t Yolo and advocate for more “slow & steady” moves, but BMRN had great news and is just a solid reliable Pharma co that’s been making great moves to the upside + the contracts are so cheap, I couldn’t resist
Biotech to look at (BMRN) DD Ok so looking at this most recent financial communication from BioMarin. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/biomarin-bmrn-q1-earnings-beat-135801067.html By what I read here is that sales for Q1 beat estimates, though they were down because of the pandemic similar to other companies, though down more than average. The company expects to be net positive in revenue this year. So what is the big deal?????? Well it looks like they will resubmit for approval in EU for gene therapy this year (JUNE), this would still make them the first gene therapy product potentially being approved world wide. That has implications for appearances and confidence which could drive up the stock price no matter how much they are able to charge per dose in Europe. ALSO they are expecting potential approval of another big drug, Vosoritide in Q3 in EU and now Q4 in US. This would be the first drug used for achondroplasia, which is basically BioMarin's bread and butter as authorities have pressure to accelerate approval of drugs that work for children with rare diseases. Next lets look at the stock price. Take a look at the average stock price over the last 5 years....it has basically been hovering around 75-85 dollars, that price could be expected as the baseline now without the approval of Gene therapy and achondroplasia drugs, so how much would the stock go up with those approved???? Well its max was 131 when they got news from the FDA they needed more data to approve the gene therapy drug so what else do you need to know how the stock will react. https://www.google.com/search?q=bmrn+stock&rlz=1C1GCEB\_enUS940US940&oq=bmrn+sto&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j0i433j0l4j0i20i263j0l2.3190j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Tell me what you think, it seems like its a company on the cusp of finally getting over the hump financially or at least worth taking a bet on as the stock is in a lull right now.
BMRN last public statement said that the FDA has to decide on their new drug for achondroplasia by November, if it’s a yes it’s probably a good time to get into now, just saying.
Hey man I see you trying to generate ideas! Here are some I’m thinking about adding personally: BMRN, AMD, MRK. At top end of your range I’m buying more VRTX.
Yeah, I appreciate the comment. Agree that it’s potentially a big problem, though I doubt the government wants to take a huge bite of that apple. I’d assign it high impact, but low probability. To a certain degree maybe all big pharma names reflect this danger, and I’m comfortable with it until something substantially changes. Another thing is VRTX and BMRN benefit from orphan drug status from the government. Even if they were to set price controls, ultimately someone will have to pay for the difference since the incentives to bring rare disease therapies to market are already low without orphan drug incentives. I would argue there are lower fruit to go after in the fruit tree than life changing treatments like VRTX offers. But the risk is definitely there.
No problem. If you’re looking for yield specifically, VRTX and BMRN both don’t pay one. But BMRN is sleeper because it looks wholly unprofitable but is in effect just plowing every last dollar into R&D. For savvy investors who recognize that, could be a good underrated pickup for some nice appreciation in next few years. Cheers and best of luck!
Yeah was looking for bond proxy stocks and after Verizon the characteristics led me to big pharma. Loaded up on MRK, BMY, GILD, and ABBV with smaller position in REGN. They seem like some of the better deals out there right now. I will take a harder look at Vertex and BMRN, appreciate the response.
My impression of ABBV’s CF treatment is they’ve deprioritized the CF acquisition they made and it’s no longer really a big thing they’re pushing. I would say VRTX is largely what you see is what you get: great profitability in a life changing treatment, with investor sentiment being low because of fears of being a OTP. I’d say with cash on hand and their cash flows, they can bolster up their decently early stage pipeline with a strong phase 3 candidate in a rare disease. Only caution around that is just investor sentiment over price paid for that acquisition. Overall, I think you get one of the best core businesses you’ll find in pharma and essentially options on their phase 1/2 drugs being mega blockbusters, basically for free. Seems like a good deal to me. By the way I’m a fan of most pharma majors right now. I’d argue the market has been looking elsewhere and healthcare is generally inexpensive. Not too sure about GILD because I know they’ve been downward for a few years now, but I generally like AMGN MRK REGN, BMY ABBV are a little more lukewarm (debt load), and VRTX, BMRN being my high conviction.
Agreed. Vertex probably won't rocket but it's extremely undervalued right now. I'll check out your other pick BMRN because I'm liking the healthcare stocks right now. It's one of the only sectors I can find consistent value in. Alot of more mainstream "value" stocks have made too much of a run for me too fast. This is a random though, but if you like mining companies, I'm a big fan of sibanye-stillwater. They are doing very well and have a good p/e. I've been liking the mining stocks lately. Sibanye-stillwater has ran up a lot recently but it's p/e is still reasonable. I got in early, so check it out at your own risk. They mine PGMs (and gold) and that market is growing.
Yeah I’d say we are very similar in approach. I own LMT as well, and have considered opening a position in CRSR as well after this period of consolidation. When people shift their attention away from quality companies, that’s when I want to get in. LMT has been an absolute winner and so has AVGO; you’re going to profit for a very long time from those names. Definitely consider VRTX then at the very least. BMRN is more sleeper, but potentially deeper undervaluation. VRTX is just a few steps ahead in the life cycle and is just a profitability and growth monster. I’ll send you a pm in the AM to continue this discussion. Thanks for making this post!
I appreciate your kind words. Glad you found value. Generally I like to be contrarian if I invest in individual stocks. If the market assumes the worst, we know the world doesn’t really deal in absolutes both positive or negative, and I’m willing to bet against the extreme sentiment. I’ve made a lot of gains recently this way in everything from mall REITs to tech stocks. In VRTX and BMRN’s cases, I’m super bullish. Pharma companies get a bad rap, but their treatments save lives and improve QoL by a significant margin. VRTX has some data coming up from a study concerning a promising compound they have, so if you do your own DD and are still interested, you could initiate half a position now then wait and see. But if the news is positive it may very well be a rocket.
VRTX or BMRN, two rare disease pharma companies. Both currently out of favor due to pipeline setbacks that i believe investors drastically overreacted to. VRTX has a virtual monopoly in their space, with patent protection into the 2030s. No debt, more than 6B cash in the bank, a promising early stage pipeline with drugs that could be revolutionary if successful. Trading less than 20 forward p/e because investors think growth story in current franchise is running slower and worry it’s a one trick pony. It isn’t, and I’m already betting against the market. BMRN is in a similar situation and well-positioned too. Low profitability metrics because it plows so much money back into R&D. Has a moat like VRTX because rare diseases usually don’t attract too much competition because markets are small. But investors heavily punished it over a bizarre FDA ruling that required more data and a delayed timeline. I think they overreacted.
EBS, BHVN, NBIX oh and my personal fave ... BMRN. You could have made a fortune shorting any of them. Oh yeah and even if you like vaccine stocks, you must love the 80% draw down in VIR and NVAX is only down 140 from 7 weeks ago

VRTX, BMRN, FB. coincidentally first two are pharma-related, but core business values are either current share price or slightly higher. Basically a binary bet 0 or 1 that their pipeline (which will have data coming soon, for both names), will have positive results and if the prospect of negative news was already baked in when they dropped hard, then it’s an asymmetric opportunity. FB just because of regulatory overhang and their general reputation, but they make a ton of money and ad spending is supposed to have accelerated already.
