The problem with sentiment data is that the sources tend to be echo chambers. There are regular attempts to source and score that sort of data. A couple of years ago - VanEck even had an ETF called BUZZ that was based on an S&P sentiment index. Sounds better than VanEck Social Sentiment ETF, which uses AI to track what people are feeling, so they can use this emotional force (I would call it baggage) to make investment decisions. The ticket symbol is BUZZ, as in the state you need to be in before you think this is a good idea.

But BUZZ ETF has not worked out so well since inception in March-2021 but if looked at since start of 2023 then it is double that of SP500

I meant in comparison. Right now a Model Y Long Range AWD is $48,000 brand new. However you qualify for a $7,500 rebate making it 41,500. A Rav 4 Prime is around $43,000 brand new but doesn't get the rebate. So the Model Y becomes LESS competitive towards cars that didn't qualify because they weren't EV's or didn't meet the criteria. I think there are ALOT of people that would turn their nose up to hating musk if it meant saving $6k over a similar car. But if the Mach-E, RAV-4, Inoniq, EV-9, ID4, ID-BUZZ, etc. I will give an example though. Looking at replacing a car with a 6 seater. I thought about getting the X because you can get the 6 seater WITH the tax rebate... which means you could have an X six seater with 30% more range for the same price as the BUZZ... Well now the buzz is actually about $15k cheaper than a 6 seater X. So that pushes the X out of the conversation and instead a Buzz and EV9 discussion now.

Check out BUZZ ETF. It got pretty wrecked in 2022, but partially recovered in 2023. If you were long a leveraged inverse Buzz instrument, you could have made a ton of money in the early months of 2022, but if you held straight through to today fees and decay would have probably eaten most of your gains.

Some FAANG companies laying off a percentage of the new resources they added since 2020 has had no effect on the larger technology employment market. Funds like this are always a terrible idea, and this one is more horribly implemented than most. (Compare and contrast with Adasina's "Social Justice" ETF, among others.) I have far less issue with the expense ratio than the actual holdings. Not sure how "diversified" it is with 32.5% IT companies. And then the other holdings are a mix of regional companies most investors have probably never heard of and sort of tone-deaf inclusions. Like... Starbucks? Okay, they're not an oil company or defense contractor, so I guess ignoring their anti-union stance makes them palatable to the target investors for this ETF? Still... probably better than $BUZZ. But that's a low bar to clear.
