I think you really have to be alive to world events and opportunity, but it only works if you have a larger portfolio and you sell money losing investments quickly. I bought Rheinmetall RNMBY in 2024 because I thought Europe would continue to boost defense spending. Then I bought Airbus EADSY and a European defense fund EUAD. All have outperformed, especially RNMBY which rose by more than 400 pct. But this was in a bull market, which makes everyone look like a genius. Oil has gone up a lot, so I just sold some to buy BRK B shares. You can't do investment level research, which is one of many reasons why index funds work so well.

I bought quite a few stocks (GE, INTL, ASML, EADSY, CAT, VLO) on 11/14/24 and 1/7/25 . The latter lots became LT today. I didn't want to risk the massive gains and sold today collectively for a 49% net gain. I am insane not stupid lol.
Whenever Trump hypes peace in Ukraine and starts promoting peace talks/negotiations Europe defense shares like RNMBY EADSY EUAD fall. As the talks fail and the fighting continues these shares rise. The RFK JR/TRUMP autism/Tylenol announcement hit KVUE, now the shares are up as KMB is buying the company.
Looks great, one stock I like is AWK, which has been a pretty steady stock, a recent merger caused the stock to plunge about 14%, people ran out and bought Essential Utilities instead because there was the potential for 10% discount with a 3 for 1. I just bought AWK because it had become cheaper. They pay dividends. EADSY is a slow mover, it seems like Airbus stock is more receptive to positive news in European countries, Airbus has made advances in their manufacturing facilities and continues to do so.
I sold PPA at $115 and bought EUAD. Maybe a mistake, who knows. Both good WWII plays. Also EADSY.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. I sold a lot of equities from Oct-mid April and bought a gold fund GLD, a short duration US bond fund (SGOV 5 PCT interest), an intl bond fund (BNDX 4 PCT interest). I am buying United Healthcare UNH right now, I bought back some AMZN @ 175 and some European equity EUAD fund and EADS which makes Airbus planes. Ticker is probably EADSY. I started selling because of Buffet, so I sold 50 PCT of my AMZN at 210. It then rose to 240 I think. I am also thinking about buying a rare book, ie a collectible, but that would be a new direction.

I've noticed that there isn't a lot of content that explains implications of ADRs to people with limited investing experience, and a desire for low sophistication. Most of what I've seen amounts to "ADRs allow you to invest in foreign companies on American exchanges, but there might be tax & fee implications." So maybe real examples would be helpful. 1. The car company BYD has two offerings: BYDDY Company ADR, and BYDDF. For an unsophisticated investor, the first option, BYDDY, could be more attractive because it already handles the foreign exchange between US dollars and Hong Kong dollars, thus simplifying life come tax season? 2. The plane company Airbus also has a few options. EADSY, which is an unsponsored ADR, and the company itself, EADSF. This same unsophisticated investor similarly could go for the first option, EADSY, using the same logic as example 1. However (and this is where I really couldn't find any information), there would be an increased risk since it's not company sponsored? What is the additional risk of an unsponsored ADR?
Commercial planes are pretty much a duopoly. Boeing (BA) and Airbus(EADSY). Bombardier and Embraer are other competitors but make smaller planes and don’t exactly compete with BA and EADSY. Since BA can’t get their head out of their rear end - EADSY is the only real stable commercial airplane manufacturer right now. So they have pricing power with both customers and suppliers.

I bought EADSY last week with the same thought. Rather than betting against BA, why not open a position in the only other provider? I bought in an IrA, w the assumption it’s no rocket, just a steady builder (bad puns intended)

EADSY is superior by far. Extremely well managed, cheaper valuation. Consistent profitability. I love America but it's a no-brainer over BA unfortunately.

You can buy foreign companies as ADRs on some exchanges and it depends on which foreign companies are offered as ADRs. For example Airbus is offered h see the ticker EADSY, while China Southern Airlines is not.

I love the US generally but right there is an example where the foreign ticker EADSY is infinitely better managed, fraction of the valuation, better record of profitability.

EADSY is infinitely better run than BA. The same greedy idiots that cut corners and killed the culture of quality are mostly still there. Better management, likely better future and it was way cheaper relative to income, and still is.
Was thinking of playing the Paris Air show on Monday morning and betting on Airbus chirpy uppies. Boeing too expensive. Not delivering. Catalyst for the week: Double whammy, first Paris Airshow since Pandemic and largest pre planned NATO exercises in history. Next week. I long played EADSY (Airbus) and sold for $32 in a panic with SVB and the market dying last month so I could ensure a nice gain and have cash on hand. Today it broke $35 for the first time in ages. Goodbye missed out on money I'll miss you.
Sold EADSY (Airbus) for 2k profits after longing it for nearly 3 years. Wanted to see it run but this shit is spooky and I want some cash on hand. Also why the hell is the Airbus ADR not supported on Robinhood? I was able to close but it is no longer supported.
I doubt anyone here knows why, but Robinhood will only let me close out of EADSY (Airbus ADR) and not buy more. I've held it for a couple years and I don't get why a major company would no longer be supported on Robinhood. I have margin reqs for everything and cash on hand so that's not blocking it. Does Robinhood sometimes stop supporting random ADRs?
Boeing fucked up yet again, this time on 787 production documents so it's tanking in aftermarket. It's a wonder EADSY hasn't doubled in the last year to $50+
Question that I know people won't have an exact answer to, but might have some insight. I have had a good amount of EADSY (Airbus) on Robinhood for a couple years. It is an ADR as well. Today it says I can no longer buy anymore but can close out my position. I have no margin balance, the stock hasn't had any volatility or anything. Just Robinhood being stupid?
Not sure I don't use robbinghood. But just want to say I wouldn't sell EADSY. Pretty much only int'l stock I have. Bought at $24 and it seemed like a no-brainer. They make money hand over fist, INFINITELY better run than Boeing which is a dumpster fire that only survives because the industry is more or less a duopoly.
Are some OTC markets closed today? EADSY (Airbus) only has 1800 volume, usually a pretty active otc.

The commercial airplane manufacturing business is effectively a duopoly between EADSY (Airbus) and the dreaded BA (Boeing). Similarly, MATCH (owner of Tinder, Hinge, OkCupid etc..) pretty much own the dating space
EADSY (Airbus); going to have a lot of orders for militaries, great commercial aircraft (imho better than Boeing), and easy govt contacts. Not without supply chain exposure risks and other risks of course. Do your own DD please — and then share your thoughts with the rest of us degenerates!
I don’t think the West is going to impose a no-fly zone because in order to enforce it, they would need to send troops over there. And that would basically mean going to war with Russia. And there are always plays out there. If the West keeps giving missiles to Ukraine, then long stocks like RTX, EADSY, and LMT. If Belarus gets more sanctions, then join potash gang. But even without considering the war, there are thousands of companies out there still doing their own thing. They don’t stop because of this, so there will always be plays out there. Sometimes there’ll be more bullish plays, sometimes more bearish plays.
In regard to civil commercial aviation currently I really feel that EADSY is a better choice. Apart from their "dispute" with Quatar Airbus is producing planes the market wants and as of now didn't happen to sacrifice safety. The military side however tells a different story imho and here I believe Boeing is still significantly stronger.

Picking up EADSY shares today for long term hold because no options available. Airbus has been kicking Boeing ass for a while now. Even if travel is down this winter, people need planes for transport. Low p/e and could eventually bring back dividends. I think they landed some new orders recently also.
