I see many people not answering your question directly, so I'll chime in. USDC is the predominant stablecoin used by US financial institutions today (especially because USDT is technically offshore). USDC itself is a set of smart contracts (aka software) on the EVM (aka ethereum virtual machine). So today, USDC is very easy to swap back and forth with ETH, and it's also very easy to swap USDC on other networks that are EVM-compatible, primarily Base (Coinbase's blockchain). You asked about how tightly coupled stablecoin adoption is with ETH's dominance -- which is a hot debate in the ETH community now -- and there's no consensus yet. The simple ways to think about this are... \- ETH is a volatile asset. Being able to instantly and (almost) freely swap between ETH and USDC is appealing to financial institutions. So, institutions spending big $$ on USDC seems bullish for ETH because as soon as those institutions buy, they are literally one click away from pouring billions into ETH. This implies that USDC adoption is indeed correlated with the rise of ETH. Buying USDC is often interpreted of a soft-launch for eventually buying ETH in that way. \- But the same is true in the other direction. We saw at the height of the Trump tariff fiasco that the market uncertainty caused institutions to cash out of ETH back to USDC, which cratered the ETH price. It might only take slight dips in ETH for institutions to get cold feet -- especially because holding USDC typically earns a \~4% annual return -- so that's the bear case. \- Now, both Stripe and Circle (the sole issuer of USDC) have each decided to launch their own separate EVM-compatible blockchains for USDC. Neither are directly built atop Ethereum, which on its face seems pretty bearish for ETH. I'd say 2/3 of ETH holders don't like this decision by Circle, but this is a brand new development, so I might bite my tongue. \- Ethereum as a blockchain will continue to be decentralized. Most developers and finance in crypto see Ethereum along the lines of "the easy-to-access blockchain for anybody on earth, tied to no specific company". So, the looming question is whether or not Ethereum being decentralized is a true value-add in the long-term. \- Or, do most users of USDC (particularly financial institutions) really not give a shit about decentralization? Would they prefer a centralized blockchain where a trustworthy fintech like Stripe is accountable to the product they trade on and provides development resources? Those are the rough edges of the debate as it's happening now.

What about Ravencoin or whatever people are pointing their GPUs at these days? Been seeing EthW up 140% over 90 days, ETC (Eth Classic) up 76% to $26.7 @ 3.8b MCap. Apparently there's some other shit that's asic resistant, double O cuck cycles or [something](https://docs.grin.mw/wiki/extra-documents/how-to-mine/) but it's chart looks like Enron's last days. Probably just capitulation. 3080ti is at like $43 a month converting to BTC at [current](https://www.nicehash.com/profitability-calculator/nvidia-rtx-3080-ti-lhr) rates, for the 1-click install through Nicehash (they take like a 1% fee and just point GPUs at the most profitable algo for the uninitiated). There was no fuss when ETH etf came out. And ETH blockchain is 100 times better than BTC. How many of you understand programming? BTC blockchain is hideous, outdated, and wreaks havoc on the environment. Nothing is good about it at all. It’s like old people clinging to myspace when Facebook was 100 times better. Yeah myspace was cool and starter, but Facebook transformed it. Same way with ETH, and ETH EVM. This was innovation and a new era of Crypto. And no it isn’t like oh Dollar backed up by Gold. BTC is backing up all Crypto. No, BTC could die now, and Crypto payments and solutions would still work fine. That whole Terra scheme, was just to strike fear into traders who don’t know anything about Crypto, that BTC goes down everything else dies hahahaha. Anyway, stupid money for stupid people. Smart contracts are a huge value add once Nakamoto Protocol or similar is integrated on EVM, but money skelly is a bit daft on that problem. NFTs achieve essentially the same goal as a company's server would do - except they do it *trustless.* The key here is that the game owner does not have control over the assets - think of something like Eve online, that has had battles costing over $300K in real world money in damages. There's full-blown economies in these games, but blockchain asset ledgers (smart contracts - aka NFTs) add *real ownership and stake* into what would otherwise be "funny money" issued by the developers. Imagine, instead of buying your ship in Eve online with dollars transacted to a worthless in-game currency(that cannot be recalled and is otherwise useless outside the game), you use LRC tokens (the EVM sidechain GME is running their NFT marketplace on that's basically ethereum but with major fixes) to purchase your ship, then you can sell it, or make real money doing some kind of supply runs, piracy, jobs, etc in game. Basically it turns the virtual world into a real economy. Critics often claim how "it's just a game" but quite frankly, all economies work on basic supply and demand. If there was no demand for housing, RE values would be practically nothing. Same would be for in-game assets. If there's demand, there will be valuations. Added benefit - since there's a single blockchain, you could have cross-game assets and currencies for multiple games, should the devs want to go that route

Yeah that number is total bs, don't mind OP and consider that not all gmetards are actually retarded. Pro's: \- Main point is that the tards are now putting their stocks in their name. you can do this by requesting a certificate but its much faster to do this via the transfer agent (computershare). when first reported retail came in with 5.4 mil shares, then 8.9 mil, today the new numbers come in. \- nft marketplace, now for the actual numbers: both gamestop and their partner loopring make 1% per swap currently, at the moment a similar swap at uniswap costs about 33 dollars at 100 gwei. So unless I'm swapping more than 1650 dollars its cheaper to use the gamestop wallet. but yeah 40 bil / 0.01 = 4 trilion of yearly $ transactions volume, I don't know what drugs OP is doing but I'd like 2 please ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271). Anyways the reason I listed this under pro's is that with EVM coming to loopring gamestop is on track to actually offer fairly priced NFT's with an actual usecase instead of being DiGItAl ARt. \- eliminated all their debt (minus a very small french covid loan) \- expanded product catalog a ton and leased two massive warehouses to back it up Con's: \- yeah its absolutely a gamble \- barrage of negative sentiment full disclosure I own 71 shares (50 in my name and 21 on IBKR) @ 125$ also I'm high as a kite writing this

Layer 2s are live with substantially lower fees. Sharding is the next upgrade which will further scale the protocol. You also have Polygon as an EVM compatible chain. > there can always be something to replace ethereum as a smart contract network. The point many people are missing is: how will these "replacements" deal with full and congested blocks? They are cheap now because nobody is using them. If everybody moved from Ethereum to one of these other protocols, it will be just as congested, with no L2s to ease that congestion. One solution is to increase block size, but then it becomes very difficult to effectively have a decentralized network if syncing the nodes takes several TBs of bandwidth. Hence we have "the trilemma", and Ethereum has the best solution. Execution layer, settlement layer, rollups, and sharding.

Gas fees on Ethereum are crazy right now. I suggest using Avalanche, Arbitrum, Polygon, or Solana for now. The first three are EVM compatible so many of the same apps are on it. Solana's kind of its own tech stack. Like Java vs C++. Eth will eventually scale but right now it's mostly a whale playground. We're in the scaling & format wars stage of crypto.

But the ethereum virtual machine is inherently limited in ways that decentralized computing cant overcome. the transition to eWASM is exciting but thats it. And is that worth thousands per ethereum? I dont know. Your zero-computing-power bitcoin is a ponzi scheme though. And ethereum is a slightly better ponzi scheme. EVM sucks and the eWASM slightly improved instruction set wont help * Self driving: Pure scam. Spend a few days looking up the current state of neural networks. Spend a few days after that looking up the guarantees required for systems that determine whether or not humans die or live. What you very quickly realize is that neural networks are black boxes and thats not going to allow any kind of analysis for humans. What do I like????? * Last week got very into SRNG - maybe its just as bullshit but its out of my level of knowledge so Im fooled into thinking its useful like these idiots buying bitcoin. * AI used for REALISTIC shit. Your AI is not going to be driving us around. Basically if it requires REAL TIME, INSTANT decisions and a human life is on the line, do not expect this to happen before 2050-2060. And thats optimitsic. Whats realistic? * Finance - KPLT, they are using AI+data from browser to pull off a risk underwriting rbitrage between basic credit system and their own model * Intelligence - Black sky , etc. Basically if you can think about it for an hour or two before deciding = great application for AI KPLT is basically just an AI

BTC and ETH aren't even in the same taxonomy of cryptoassets, most people talking about ETH killing BTC lack a fundamental understanding of the role of each cryptoasset. BTC is a traditional cryptocurrency, but ETH is much more of a cryptocommodity because it offers access to the EVM. Often why you see BTC referred to as 'digital gold' and 'digital oil'. That's not to say ETH can't surpass BTC in price because the value of what it does is higher, but to say their somehow in competition is naive. We're still so early in the cryptomarket that the entire economy is pegged to BTC, which is obvious right now, but that could change in the future. Regardless of where ETH and BTC end up relative to eachother that's not evidence of either displacing the other, because they're really solving seperate issues. It's kind of like saying Intel will replace Nvidia in the future, it's not that Intel couldn't surpass Nvidia's market cap at some point (they've already played jumprope here before), it's that Intel and Nvidia are not solving the same issues so to say that one replaces the other is absurd. While Nvidia makes CPU's they're only higher-end and used in the scientific computing context where Nvidia shines, and while Intel makes integrated GPU's they haven't been interested in breaking in to the higher-end GPU market, so neither of them are really much in competition in the first place. In short: ETH can't take over BTC's job because Ether is inflationary, the BTC supply cap is integral to the role of BTC as a cryptocurrency. BTC can't take over ETH's job because BTC doesn't allow for smart contracts (BCH might disagree on this point) or faciliate tokens on top of it's ecosystem, while the EVM is integral to the role of Ethereum as a cryptocommodity. People who understand both of these cryptoassets also know that they have completely different reasons for existing. You can of course make the argument that BTC will become irrelevant in the future regardless because a cryptocurrency with a max supply who's sole role is facilitating it's own transactions isn't what the market will want, but you can't make the argument that ETH will become that, because ETH is solving an entirely different problem.

Why do you think eth has room to run? I am pretty well versed in what the ethereum virtual machine as described in the yellow paper is capable of, what the bottlenecks are, all of the upcoming ETH2.0 technicals regarding the beacon chain etc, as well as current applications of the EVM. Have written a decent bit of solidity code and even have a local private chain on a machine right now where I am testing some DeFi stuff. After all of that, I believe there is some intrinsic value in Ethereum or similar distributed virtual machine technologies. But I have NO IDEA what it is, and certainly it hasn’t gone up 15x in the last year. So just wondering how all of the people who say it has room to run are valuing this stuff

Ok I will explain. Normally when I trade assets with another person, there is usually a market maker or holding company that's acts as a sort of intermediary. In real estate, for example, there are companies who provide escrow services, paying out depending on other parties meeting certain conditions. Now, all of this can be automated by a smart contract that takes as an input these conditions and as an output, sends funds/and or tokens to the appropriate parties, thereby eliminating the need for a trusted middle man. The problem is, these contracts to be stored and executed in a way that is A) transparent, B) non-partisan. Thus, public blockchains that supported smart contract execution were born. Ethereum or other protocols like avalanche provide a publicly verifiable and transparent execution enviroment for these contracts. (The EVM) In return, a certain fee is paid by the smart contract/participants to the network. These fees, denominated in the native token of the network, not only create organic demand for the token, but also in the future will be burned from the supply, lowering supply of the native token.

Small find for CTXR: [from this presentation at this time](https://youtu.be/HoTV9xr8EVM?t=1072) there is a possibility that the DMC could intervene and end the phase 3 trial early if the results are extremely positive.

All I know is that bitcoin is not a good crypto currency to treat like cash. High network fees, a ledger that cannot be sharded and lack of any infrastructure outside of the simple transaction (no chargebacks, disputes or refunds are allowed without just sending the btc back through the network again) means that bitcoin really shouldn't be the go-to currency for people that want to use crypto viably. I also think that as these technical challenges catch up with bitcoin its real value is going to start to fall and plateau. I don't see an upside to using bitcoin versus another crypto currency with better tech (ethereum with it's EVM and smart contracts makes way more sense for pure payment processing than bitcoin) and I don't think it's current price actually reflects the worth bitcoin has compared to other cryptos.
