This is good info to know for the future. Thanks. I don't know why I didn't include the ticker. It's MTN. Vail Resorts.

Mentions:#MTN

You're not wrong. Unfortunately most of my life feels like just a train of thought. I'm working on it. Sorry for not putting the ticker. It's vail resorts. MTN. I closed my position. I think it has potential to continue down. Not quite insider info but I have a decent pulse on the ski industry paired with a general drop is discretionary spending I have reason to believe this continues down. The premiums on these options are too damn high and the volume is super low.

Mentions:#MTN

Ya, that was kinda dumb to not post the ticker. It's MTN, vail resorts. I did close the entire positions. I've been playing the volatility on this one for a couple months. I work in the ski industry and my thesis was to ride it down for the last year but finally got around to actually doing it.

This is an update of my post from last year. Since my last post, I’ve gotten rid of one company - G7 holdings (Japanese diversified retailer) - and added a number of new companies. The new companies are: Internet Infinity (Japanese eldercare), MTN Group (South African telecom & fintech company operating across Africa & Iran), FIH Group (Falkland Islander Conglomerate), and the Brisbane Broncos (Australian Rugby team). During 2025, my portfolio outperformed VTI (+23.0% vs +17.10%), and continues to do so YTD (+5.0% vs +0.22%). I did underperform VXUS in 2025 (+23.0% vs +32.36%), and am slightly outperforming it YTD (+5.0% vs +3.37%). I still haven’t added any US or tech companies to my portfolio, as I haven’t found any that’ve piqued my interest. I don’t really plan on adding any more companies, unless any of my holdings become significantly overvalued. I may switch from the Swiss ETF to a Canadian one or VXUS. |Stock|Country|Mcap|Industry|Weight|Total Return|CAGR| |:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-| |Clínica Baviera|Spain|$917.4M|Eyecare|11.2%|\+101.2%|\+27.04%| |MTN Group|South Africa|$19B|Telecom & Fintech|8.5%|\+45.40%|\+77.62%\*| |cottaLtd|Japan|$37.1M|Confectionary & Beauty Salon Materials|8.4%|\+28.20%|\+8.17%| |Switzerland ETF|Switzerand|na|ETF|7.9%|\+22.10%|\+24.57%\*| |Jerónimo Martins|Portugal|$14.76B|Grocery|7.9%|\+26.13%|\+6.78%| |Eiffage|France|$14.13B|Infrastructure|7.8%|\+60.22%|\+15.48%| |Texaf|The DRC|$155.2M|Real Estate, Mining, Tech|7.4%|\+11.54%|\+8.05%| |GrønlandsBANKEN|Greenland|$272.7M|Bank|6.3%|\+69.85%|\+21.39%| |Internet Infinity|Japan|$25.36M|Eldercare|5.7%|\-4.20%|\-5.58%\*| |Metlen|Greece|$5.39B|Utilities & Metals|5.5%|\+15.54%|\+5.20%| |Van de Velde|Belgium|$464.8M|Lingerie|5.4%|\+7.90%|\+2.45%| |Brisbane Broncos|Australia|$115.8M|Rugby Team|5.0%|\-8.70%|n/a| |FIH Group|Falkland Islands|$40.7M|Conglomerate|4.8%|\-9.00%|n/a| |JP-Holdings|Japan|$398.7M|Childcare|4.2%|\-1.50%|\-1.08%| |MÁDARA|Latvia|$50.16M|Cosmetics|4.0%|\+2.39%|\+1.05%| \*means that I owned the company for more than 6 months, but less than 1 year. n/a CAGR means that I have owned the company for less than 6 months, so a CAGR % is not calculated yet. I've lived and worked in several countries around Africa for over a decade total. The TL;DR is either you invest directly in people as individuals to make the world a better place, or not at all. First off, you're 10-15 years late to the party. Second, do not throw money at anything in Africa. Numerous large multi-nationals do this all the time, and every single time, without fail, it's a gamble. They work a ton to hit margins that ensure high enough profits short-term that by the time corruption hits a point of no return, or their investment gets nationalized, or civil unrest or a coup makes it impossible to do business anymore, they've at least broken even. Even in very "stable" countries, between corruption and constant need to invest in infrastructure you don't even own, it's always a game of sunk costs vs. quick grabs. I knew a guy that worked for a large Western company in a very stable country in an industry that was critical infrastructure. The government, as soon as they could, started booking capacity, and after about 2 years, stopped paying. Just entirely stopped paying and did not care. The company ate it for another 2 years. Until it reached a point that the company was stuck too far in the hole to sell their stock and pull up stakes without incurring a significant loss, just from years of arrears from ONE client now compounding and meaning no capital investment. Why not cut them off? It's critical infrastructure. It's legally required to operate at all times, even without payments from clients ;) After about a year of negotiation, the government paid maybe 20% of what it owed and genuinely expected that to be enough to make the problem go away. Literally tens of millions of dollars of loss. Then elections came, wiped the slate clean, and the debt was "the last government's problem" and the new government would not honor the debt. Now take this and extrapolate it over and over again. Fine me one solvent, let alone fully operational utility company on the whole continent. That's what you're looking at long term. That's your cautionary tale. You think someone that invested in Eskom in 2010 ever saw a return? lol, no. That money was spent and gone before the end of the month. What you reference are a lot of sweetheart deals funded by the governments of China, Turkey, Emirates, that are 100% quid pro quo. Turkey builds an airport with loans it manages...oh, and has access to mining concessions all of the sudden. China builds a road and suddenly no Chinese people in that country ever see the inside of a prison despite truly terrible abuses caught on video weekly. Investment funds are laughably terrible ideas, unless you're the people who think they'll turn into your slush fund to buy a flat in London. As for Digital, fine, invest in MTN. You'll probably lose money, but MTN isn't going anywhere. Otherwise, it's the same exact gamble and wait prospect that it was for other industries. African government officials love love love love love parroting the phrase "data is the new oil!" because they know how to get bribes and kickbacks from oil exploration and extraction. They want the FANGs to do the work for them and just show up with bribes for a thing they don't understand. Momo is always getting jerked around because it's seen as too much money to be left alone. online shopping is informal whatsapp messages between people who know and trust each other. fintechs are mostly scams scamming other scammers. Gaming? lol, ok, sure. with what IP laws will you defend it all? No one has money to buy apps and every school and market has a guy that bootlegs everything for a pitance. I love Africa. It's an amazing place, but it's not a place to make money unless you're there on the ground with people you trust and have a role in the day-to-day, and have a raft of connected people protecting your investment.

Via Perplexity The rapid adoption of mobile money and digital payment platforms, such as M-Pesa and MTN Mobile Money, has brought financial services to millions who previously lacked access to traditional banks. In 2025, over seventy percent of African adults reported making a digital payment in the past year, and mobile money transactions are projected to exceed eight hundred billion dollars, reflecting the scale of this shift. Widespread mobile phone ownership, even among those without smartphones, enables digital payments through basic devices, while expanding internet coverage and government policies further support this trend. Countries like Kenya and South Africa are leading the way, with high rates of digital payment adoption and supportive regulatory environments.

The stock market is like Chicago: There are a few centralized posh, upscale neighborhoods, but those are surrounded by low-income, dangerous neighborhoods. If you walk away from big tech stocks in any direction, you'll find depressed stocks all around.

Tariffs, by design, raise prices. The effect of this on consumer spending/confidence, and on domestic businesses- is recessionary. Anyway you cut it, whether it's the consumer eating the cost, or the business eating the cost, or a mix of both- causes the economy to shrink. Neither. It's that Pepsi has been losing the soda wars for years. They simply live in the shadow of Coca-Cola, and every attempt they've made at clawing back relevancy has failed. Even now, Pepsi has been overthrown by Dr Depper as the 2nd most popular soda in America, 1st being Coke obviously. Outside of seeing it at Pizza Hut, have you ever even heard of Starry? Have you ever had the urge to get it? Do you go to a restaurant and ask for a Starry? No, you ask for a Sprite. Starry was Pepsi's failed attempt at competing directly with Sprite. MTN Dew is very good, but it's also very niche. You only find it at stores, and it's the flavored versions people are after. Baja Blast is the one and only exception. If you take a loot at Pepsi as a soda and where it ranks in terms of market share, it's been on a steady decline for over 20 years now. Coke has maintained it's position the entire time. Even Diet Coke has a higher market share than Pepsi. Pepsi Clowns, it's over for you guys.

1. google trends showed LULU spiked in search results massively during november and lead up to earnings call (dec 5). Also, if you guys are on tiktok, you'll see how much white girls LOVE their lulu. But, since LULU has been a dog all year, its earnings really surprised the markets 2. now, with Vail i think we may see a similar response, but less forceful reaction. Google trends are basically in line with how cyclical it is, but is currently at the 'optimal' search hit level of the cycle that will line up nicely with earnings date. The tiktok algorithm has also begun sending skiing videos, and we all know how much girls will see this and feel compelled to start skiing MTN in general doesn't see much movement, but I think we will see some upside suprise given how much people want to be outside the home and engage in such activities, however some of that upside may have already been captured within past week

I don’t know how MTN isn’t in worse shape, tbh. I was a shareholder a few years ago and got out around 250. They’re a well-run company but the climate headwinds are just massive. They can try - and are trying - to push summer sports and all-family reasons to visit counter-seasonally but the money is in skiing / boarding. Period. And the season starts later and becomes less predictable every year. 🤷‍♂️

Depending on a portfolios mandate if it’s a fund, it may be required to have exposure to certain sectors or a money manager wants to be diversified across multiple sectors. RCL can provide good exposure to leisure travel without some of the headaches airlines or hotels provide. Most of the cruise season - like 99.9% - is already set for this year so it has lower risks involved compared to say MTN. I will say I see CCL correct back up now, so it’s pretty much flat from before the ER which seems more appropriate given what it did. It will be interesting to see how it settles going into the next quarter of guidance then.

Man you are a fool! I full ported my account into MTN calls and WSM puts because of your DD. Then sold them after doing my own DD. Good thing otherwise I would've been toast.

Probably spend most of tomorrow figuring out how MTN managed to have a very green day after posting some pretty horrific quarterly numbers and shitty guidance.

My $MTN put was up $800 at midnight and I sold at open for $30. It’s all BS

MTN -> 224.63 -> 215.00 -> -4,48% KSS -> 27.19 -> 26.20 -> -3,78% IGT -> 25.15 -> 24.79 -> -1,45% They all went down but less than 5%, I wouldn't consider it a victory Also it marks KSS as lost when it said PUT Conclusion? This table is wrong and is useless

chief im gonna be honest. im not feeling this one. IGT - gambling is always profitable. never bet against gambling addicts. they would play on the most garbage ass, completely buggy, 24/7frozen, bullshit odds, money scam machines all day if they could. KSS - very solid earnings/share ratio. on a decent upward trend. MTN - hm. im not seeing anything here. it looks like a toss up to me. it might as well not stay the same. although im a complete regard so what do i know but i think you are gonna miss 2/3 on this one.
