Sorry to say it this way but you really shouldn't. You should just get SOXX or SHM and enjoy your 5% industry growth YoY. No matter the hype cycle, that's what happens in semiconductors. Just in the last decade, it was 5G, self driving, crypto, and now AI. To put it bluntly, it's a mature industry with a lot of immature executives. I've got some money on the side too. I had a plan where the first business day of every month I was going to buy more (never sell) QQQ/SMH/VTI in such a way that it rebalanced to 50% VTI, 25% QQQ, 25% SHM. Made a spreadsheet and everything to help me calculate exactly how much to spend and on what. I gave in to temptation a few times over the last few weeks, though, and bought a little bit of QQQ and SMH off schedule only to see the market drop further. I've decided to just go back to my original plan and no matter what the market does, wait till Feb 1 for my next purchase and then stick to it religiously. Makes it so much simpler and less stressful. It's just a simple calculation on a regular basis and then just do it. It has a built in buy low mechanism too. If SMH and QQQ continue to drop, the next time around they'll be a smaller part of my portfolio so I end up buying more to top them off at 25% again. If they go up greater than the broader market then I'll end up leaving them alone for that iteration and buy some VTI to bring that up to 50% again. Sure I might miss out a little if QQQ/SMH bottom out between now and Feb 1. But that's not a bad problem to have since I already own those. There's worse things that could happen than seeing stocks I own going up.

SHM if you like Taiwan Semiconductor Company. Said holding is the primary difference between the two, as far as I can tell. I hold Soxx and thought of buying TSM. Didn't do the latter because I don't trust the CCP not to act idiotically at some point. That said, I still might, as it's easy to hedge against such a threat through holding one of the major defense contractor. I like, and already hold RTX for that, because not only does one get exposure to defense spending, a good chunk of RTX's business is chained to commercial aviation avionics. So when travel comes back, RTX may swing back to all time highs.
