I think "Play to earn" involves a fundamental misunderstanding of why people play video games. Generally speaking, video games, even the more competitive and/or intense ones, are played for leisure. That's why they're there. It's been a hard day at work, time to sit down and play some mario, some GTA, some God Of War, some Dark Souls, some Elden Ring, some of whatever it is you play. It's like asking why someone doesn't want to work at a resort if they enjoy being there so much. Because those are two different things. There's nothing wrong with wanting to make money having fun, that's why pro level sports and art and other things are careers. So if an actual satisfying or high quality crypto game were to come out, maybe it would be worth an actual look. But from what I can tell, most play to earn games and crypto games in general absolutely suck. Lazily coded, lazily made, a lot are asset flips, dear LORD does decentraland look terrible, and some of them require excessive spending on microtransactions just to get started. Not to mention there's no incentive to make the games actually fun and pleasurable to play. Why would there be? You're making 1 hundredth of a bitcoin for every hour you're playing the most tedious dungeons you've ever played in your life, so why bother with making the game good when everyone's playing to earn money and you want to make that grind really slow to get people to buy boosts Assassin's Creed Valhalla style? So there's no incentive to be fun or pleasurable, and there's no incentive or obligation to even make the games pay a decent rate. Congratulations, we've invented tedious entry level jobs with extra steps. Can't imagine why people would find that unappealing.
