The strategy I like the best are debit vertical spreads on either puts or calls. If there is a time the trade goes against me and I still like the position, I can buy the short leg back for much less than I sold it for. Also I like to hedge my longterm positions in long positions by buying a shorter expiry. If I am short NVDA on this the 11th, I will buy a bunch of Monday 0 DTE's on QQQ for example, that are calls and will just cover my initial cost on the NVDA Puts. Friday markets are especially prone to these problems come Monday. Say NVDA does another upward pulse up and sinks my more longterm debit put verticals. The QQQ 0 day Mondays will also sprout wings. I sell them and pocket the profits, and possibly look toward buying the short legs back on the debit put verticals, because they have gone down in value. I basically dead a short on one end of my put debit spread. This is excellent because I keep the long puts that have been obtained at a lower cost by the buyback to close short puts. You should have an allocation plan in place like no more than 5% of your account should go into one options position. Anyway the best of luck to you.
VOO, QQQ, SPY. Take your pick
Not enough. YOLO in QQQ puts you should.
Amazing amigo! What are your thoughts on QQQ puts and UNH calls and what strike/expirations are you in?
Stupid. I just sold 8 naked QQQ puts a week ago, and this happened. ATH no more.
You know what's crazy? I perfectly predicted trump tariff rerun on friday by buying 1DTE puts on thursday, and followed it up by buying puts at the highest point on friday expiring on monday. I might be god. I didn't buy any other SPY/QQQ puts this entire month. I might be god. I knew he would do it because he needed to please his brothers in billionarism with gains on their shorts and a dippy to divvy.
I have QQQ poots and calls, can't go tits up!
It's insanely, insanely difficult to turn markets around when it's summertime and there's probably a good chance when futures open tomorrow that we see more of that in that futures gap down, but nothing like what we saw in the spring. I suspect it's incoming though. We lost banks last week as a key mover for the S&P and from what I've seen involving option flows, the semi run SHOULD be on fumes. Once it's lost and we switch from the Dow lagging to the Nasdaq lagging...game on. But I have serious doubts it lives up to April. Could even see QQQ stay over $500.
I have QQQ poots for Monday!!
I first doubled my money on MRVL since then I have played INOD many times. My gambling 0-7DTE options were done with the QQQ. I had XPEV for a good win Google and Apple both paid out as well oh and LCID along with SMCI and TSM. I do both calls and puts, strictly options though. Oh yeah, I just did GME calls today for 350 bucks.
Risk management and psychology did it for me. Started with $5k three years ago. Kept it small for two years and I was just hovering between losing a little and barely breaking even. I felt more confident after I had several green months in a row at the end of last year. This year I scaled up. Account is up to $60k now and withdrew $5k to help fund a trip. Original capital is out but I am still very strict on risk management. For psychology, Mark Douglas’ books and videos really removed my blinders. Make sure you really absorb the contents of his materials. I still re-watch, re-listen to his audiobooks and re-read his books from cover to cover to this day. For strategies, I like theta positive trades such as calendars, condors, diagonals, bear and bull call spreads (not in order of preference). I rarely do straight calls and puts maybe because I started with a small account and spreads helped keep the trades costs to a minimum. For directional trades, I like to use broken wings butterflies (ranging from 10 points wings up to 50 point wings) and LEAPS and selling shorter dated calls against it. For time frames, I like to hold for weeks to months. on my directional trades. For delta neutral trades, 1-2 weeks with strict risk management. I trade IBIT, MSTR, SPY, GLD, QQQ but the main two things that made me the most profit are IBIT and MSTR. The others are also profits but not as much as the two. I sometimes do earnings but risk very little compared to profit potential. An example was NKE earnings trade that consisted of directional (bullish) broken wing butterflies and calendar spread that made 10X. Keep at it. You will have a lot of doubters. Sometimes I felt like I was the only one who believed in myself. My biggest advice is to concentrate on what you can lose, not what you can make. This is what will keep you in the game to figure things out. Also focus on the process of good trading and not the outcome. This is easier said than done because we are wired to avoid losses. Taking small losses of it goes against your trading plan is the key. This will also help protect your mental capital.
I first doubled my money on MRVL since then I have played I NOD many times my more gambling place will be done with the QQQ. I had XPEV for a good win Google and Apple both paid out as well oh and LCID. I do both calls and puts, strictly options though.
Thank you for the advice man. This is definitely a short term thing. I do already also have a JPMORGAN investors account that I do put 50% of my check into SPY, QQQ and some more tried true tech stocks like nvidia, intel, etc etc
You’re fine as of now. I had a friend do what you’re doing. He made $15k no sweat. Then decided to do the same stock and lose his nut throughout the year. Still owed taxes on the $15k . What you’re doing is ok, just make sure that you are compensating with some longer calls on some bullshit stuff that you haven’t already grabbed so you can get rid of it in October/November to offset your capital gains if needed. Always better to not pay the taxman if you don’t have to. I’d definitely set a separate rule for yourself as well of taking like 10-20% of your gains and dump it into a Roth or something similar (if you meet the income threshold) and sit on like QQQ or something that you’d have no reason to sell. That way when you are having a bad streak your future is still protected.
I’m curious. What time is best to check PC ratio on QQQ? On a reversal, say from bearish to bullish, when do you decide to buy a Call, or Sell a put?
Why? At least from a technical perspective things are still looking bullish, and any macroeconomic news or fed being hawkish is met with a short drop that is immediately bought up. Until we see some sort of reversal with meaningful volume, we’ll probably see QQQ hit $560-565 in the coming month.
Kinda figure your conclusion is the same conclusion for anyone who closes a profit scalping intraday momentum on 0s and 1s lol. I had some pretty good success with QQQ today playing off of double bounces I was watching on the 1m’s Histogram. I’m still fully constructing my method and I regrettably fomo’d into a very poorly timed scalp that wiped out two otherwise impressive entries and exits. But such is life and day trading options lol.
It really depends on what kind of account this is in If it's a roth Id sell a portion and start diversifying into like S&P500 or QQQ If it's a regular brokerage I'd start selling my Nvidia if it was starting to grow slower than QQQ over a year
My main strategy is put credit spreads (image included to visualize, was the same spread I opened in the previous comment). Basically, you simultaneously buy and sell a put at different strike prices and the same expiration date. You’ll receive a net credit for opening the position, and the amount you pay to open is the maximum you can lose. Typically, you can play this kind of strategy for much cheaper than a naked call or put. https://preview.redd.it/0fzugtzwbbcf1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa81a7bd50d8592d8f86148aea2b309cb379c747 I typically open positions on QQQ and SOXL. The image above was when I was planning out this trade (wanted to open the position with roughly these parameters on the trough of the next morning’s selloff)
Somehow I made money today on a QQQ put spread. Didn't think that would ever happen again.
I was at the gym and wanted to sell my at the time, in the money QQQ puts but god hates me
I’m feeling 3K in some 0DTE 560 QQQ calls on Monday. Regarded enough?
SPY/QQQ doesn’t accurately reflect the absolute bloodbath going on in my portfolio rn 💀
Once QQQ is past 555 I’m in on puts.
imagine having 57k to lose that easily. just dump it in stocks or company options. QQQ/SPY way too volatile
QQQ chart kinda looking like a McDonalds logo....might be trying to tell me something
Hood would easily be over 100 with a green QQQ today
You’re right, QQQ crashed 0.03% so Monday definitely needs to moon to balance it out
After this big QQQ dump we're primed for a HUGE pump on Monday
Best entry on SPY and QQQ calls you're going to get for the rest of the year right now
I tend to buy SPY and QQQ expiries a couple days out even though I don't hold overnight. Yes they're more expensive but they also weather theta better if price action goes rangebound.
Backing up the truck and loading absolutely DIRT CHEAP SPY and QQQ calls on this fake dip. # STOCKS ARE CHEAP
Any reason QQQ pumped today?
QQQ puts. Once it passes 555
Once QQQ retests 500, I’m gonna be in on puts again.
Buy $SPY and $QQQ set and forget. Put a few hundred in every week and just let it compound
Fuck QQQ. I’ll short it today.
QQQ ending the week at 554 would be chef's kiss for me. just 3 more hours!
Sell a third, put a third in QQQ, and leave a third in nvidia.
Never again will I buy puts As soon as it dips, QQQ gets bought up. Just need 552 man
Next leg up is great for my end of day QQQ puts play. Need black Monday

Fck man! Just drop. Sorry bols. I’m 90% bol but decided to be ghey today. Need QQQ at 552 and 551 by close

amazing manipulating big caps to keep QQQ afloat
QQQ and SPY cleared for V TAKEOFF
QQQ going green mark my words
really? you dont see the massive trendline on QQQ pushing price down?
If QQQ goes below 554 I make money so just know that’s the floor
You can try to trade with smaller size allowing you to have a wider stop. I trade 1-3 SPY or QQQ contracts at a time because I'm pretty freaking bad at this too and figure I'm not going in large positions until I prove myself consistent with small size.
Equities are acting highly irrational by most metrics, well, people seem to be rationalizing that things AREN'T priced for perfection. Doesn't end well, and no this time isn't different, but it's a mug's game to try to time the turn. I typically start to show caution when (among other things), we start to see "analysts" shouting lofty eoy price targets from the rootfops, especially ones which predict a third straight 20%+ year. The same ones who predicted 4250 on the S&P500 downside. Just wallflowers jumping on a trend and extrapolating. Just look at the QQQ this morning, dips are Pavlovian. Autopilot BTFD. GLTA, these are potentially very dangerous markets.
QQQ almost green, RSP still dead in the water. Big tech can’t prop up this market forever…but it can for a damn long time.
Thank you NVDA for saving QQQ and thus me today, very cool.
How my 559 QQQ calls looking
I sold all my TQQQ and SPYU yesterday afternoon. I’m keeping my long-held QQQ and VOO, as I’ve done during previous moments of volatility. So, depends on the stock. I’m selling everything bullish that’s also leveraged. I never intended to keep those longterm, anyway. Just riding a wave for a couple weeks.
Another day of QQQ getting beaten down seems to be what premarket is saying
Forget dividends, you can write options on SPY and QQQ and earn 15%
I yolo'd in some spare cash on a debit spread for the first time in two years when qqq was around 554 yesterday yesterday for calls 1DTE 555/557. My main thought was gamma was trapping the market around 556 and pending any news I'd be Gucci today for a good scoop at around 3:1. Thinking back to the trump trade wars of 2016, I figured there was a 10% chance of Trump saying retarded shit overnight. Of course he ended up doing so the day im in action. That being said if QQQ is 552 here at open im just gonna drop the top part of the spread and triple down on the 555c position. No belief other than the market will go back to where the options already are, and who the hell knows, maybe I'll get a favorable trump tweet e.g. "trade talks are going well." Back to bonds after this lol
today is guaranteed -2% QQQ, not too late to buy puts on market open
Sector rotations might make it look like everything is still going up. But look at QQQ. Pretty weak recently. Next is SPY.
A bull market is always going up so it's always high. There's nothing you can do but buy in. If you think a dip is coming, you can wait to invest, but while you're waiting you're missing gains. And if you're wrong then you're missing gains for nothing. DCA is for volatility and bear markets. If you're buying reliable stock(s) and you think it's a bull market that will run for a while, just lump sum now. Anyway, you probably want QQQ or a tech-focused ETF.
This might not be the answer you’re looking for, but the best advice I could give is to buy options of companies you actually use and believe in with 6 months to 1 Year expiration. For day trading, study SPY or QQQ. Monitor the top 10 holdings of each. Paper trade to practice. Use MA and VWAP to help with confirmation for entry points. Don’t always aim for 100-200% returns. Follow trends. Invest in a mentor, and join a community. Be quick, in and out. Be aware of news. Don’t chase, be patient, but cut losses when they get excessive. Remember, the market’s general direction is up over the long term.
Trumps tweets are great catalyst events. Just wait for the next one and make your play on SPY QQQ etc.
all in on SPY or QQQ 0 DTEs or Intel options expiring in 1 week or less.
VTI, VOO, QQQ However old you are, just leave it in there and forget for the next 10 years.
There were 251 trading days in 2024. Of those, the S&P 500 hit new all-time-highs on 57 of those days. The numbers for 2023 are similar, with 56 new ATH days. All of this driven by big tech primarily, which you say you want to focus on. The QQQ's ATH frequency numbers are even more impressive. If you feel really strongly that we are going to crash or have a correction, well then I suppose you can just talk yourself into waiting. Nobody knows the future, but the market tends to go up, and if you've got many years to invest, why would you ever wait and try to time it perfectly? Let the market do its work, and let your money get to work. You would've talked yourself out of investing much of 2023 and 2024 by the sounds of it, because "too many ATHs" were happening, I guess? I know it seems counter-intuitive, but let the market work for you. Stocks go up.
1000% QQQ. Add IBIT too. Don't lend to the government.
pretty obvious move MM conditioning us to think tariffs no longer matter, QQQ 540P
Interesting is this true of SPY/QQQ types or in general with options. I've had very good success going slightly OTM and about 90-120 days out, I usually trade smaller caps so I could see if my knowledge around trading ETFs is lacking. Btw I'm not in any way pushing back at your statement I'm generally interested.
Berkshire has never comprehended the tech sector. They are extremely good at consumer staples. I have never considered investing in Coca Cola. I did some work at their Atlanta HQ and have seen seen so many 400+ lb people in my life. They are selling poison as far as I am concerned. Then I read the return on this stock and was floored. If Berkshire had just said fuck trying to pick the right tech stock and just bought QQQ they would be in a better place.
lol I went from -$2,000 on my mini QQQ futures contracts and averaged down enough to sell for a $20 profit. Think I’m staying out of the market tonight and tomorrow, maybe trade some shares of TSLA/GOOGL tomorrow
In that same time… NVDA up almost 100% QQQ up 40%
Likely to correct in august. Good point to get in then [https://www.gptplots.com/?ticker=QQQ](https://www.gptplots.com/?ticker=QQQ)
i have one QQQ put but i also have calls expiring tomorrow
When you're buying an ETF it doesn't generally matter where you have an account: Schwab, Fidelity, Vanguard, etc. You can trade any of the ETFs through it, generally with no transaction fee. If you want diversification check VTI over QQQ (and its related funds). QQQ while more diversified than FTEC, is pretty similar, and doesn't really diversify you very much.
RH overnite futes are spasming, ORCL and QQQ are doing flips
When will QQQ go below 545 and why is it never
I took profit on spy calls and dumped it all into QQQ. I feel like this is a regard move.
Short put is certainly directional, but has a lot more greek exposure than a spread. I should have clarified that spreads are not great for vol plays especially when you overpay for the long strike. Let me give you an example of muted greeks. Lets write a 30 delta put on QQQ, that's the 550ish strike expiring about a week out. You get around 2.50 in credit. Your delta is 30, your theta is 26, your gamma is -2.85 and your vega is -29.01. Now lets make it a put credit spread and we'll bolt on a 540 long put for .90. Now your delta is 18, your gamma is half and your theta is 9, so nearly a third. That's the muting I'm referring to. To make it more perplexing, the greeks can invert on a spread. The deeper you go into the money, you'll actually go positive vega and negative theta when your long put is DITM, but that doesn't really matter because you're at max loss with nowhere to run. My point here is that vol is no edge in spreads and can be negative in products with put skew. The QQQ example I just cited, the short put has an implied volatility of 15.1% and the long put has an implied volatility of 17.2%, so you're overpaying on a relative basis for your long option.
I’ve been trading MSTR for a couple weeks since it’s been in this $390-410 range. I just bought under $395 and sold at $405 over and over. I decided to swing because Jim Chanos is short and from what I heard on the MSTR sub he’s underwater over $420. When MSTR went to $415+ yesterday and BTC hit ATH I figured today it would push higher since SPY/QQQ have broke ATH several times now and BTC hasn’t so I saw that as a divergence that needed to catch up. Went in today on the longer call to swing and I did a weekly expiration and sold before close for profit. Now I’m just gonna ride this thing and keep stop losses moving up. BTC can make massive moves and if MSTR has a big short that needs to cover it’ll just make MSTR go that much faster. Honestly though I was a bit lucky. MSTR has been one of my favorite stocks to trade and I noticed it tapping near its high over and over recently so that was my signal that it’s coming soon.
I just keep buying weekly puts.. one of these days I'm going to hit the jackpot. In the mean time my QQQ being up so much is very nice.
I don’t follow the Russell closely enough, it seems. I’m just learning that it’s done +4.5% in the past month while SPY and QQQ are <+4%
Also lost my whole profit (and even more) the last few days tryin' to make money with outs on QQQ... didn't age well, gave up today - prepare for the huge drop tomorrow😂
