I have about 1100 shares of FLY stock that I got through stock options at my old company. Post IPO lockout ended in February and I've held so far. I'm currently thinking of taking a little bit of risk with this. My stock basis is like $0.60 a share. The total amount cost me $670 to get. Currently they are worth around 35k since FLY is currently at $33 a share. The talks of a space x IPO seems to be inflating lots of space stocks. My current plan is to sell 10% or so and re-invest I to SPY/QQQ, whatever. For maybe half of the remaining I'm really considering doing covered calls as a way to get some credit. And then just holding the rest. Or am I just overthinking all this and I should just sell all of it an reinvest into an index fund.
Why not just sell puts on the SPY or QQQ at whatever you think the bottom will be.
SpaceX is an exception because the Nasdaq 100 is a large cap etf, investors buy the Nasdaq 100 because the fund’s objective is to track the 100 largest companies listed on the Nasdaq. Based on that objective they would rather own a $2T company than a $10B company. This is the first time an exception has been made because we have never had a $2T IPO before and a $2T company has a lot more influence to move the market than a $20B company. I say if you don’t like it sell because this exactly aligns with the Nasdaq 100’s objectives, to track the 100 largest companies listed on the Nasdaq. No one owns QQQ because they need to be in on Zscaler’s innovation because they barely made the cut as one of the 100 largest companies on the Nasdaq.
They can choose whatever rules they want as long as they disclose the rules to the investors. They certainly don’t need to ask investors for permission. If you don’t like the funds holdings then don’t own the fund. If you want a quality screen build your own ETF. If the management is a load of crap don’t pay the management fee. No one is forcing you to hold QQQ, I don’t see the issue.
All the logic points to it probably going to pump after being fast tracked to the index. Millions of normal people of the type to find Will Smith slapping Chris Rock to be the most important news are just going to casually keep pumping their 401k into it without even thinking. That being said I'm not buying the SpaceX IPO and don't have much QQQ.
I was so fucking tempted to buy further puts on this pos QQQ or long oil but decided to juat have a break for the sake of mental health over longer weekend. Lets eat popcorn and observe
Fortunately we don’t have to buy QQQ
My opinion trade TQQQ with shares. Buy options with QQQ. When did you buy them and at what expiration and strike? They most likely went down due to theta decay.
at this time, i would like to bring your attention to the $493 gap on QQQ
I’m a proud thetagang member, and it’s because premiums are so high. For example, if I’m selling cash-secured puts, I try to sell the slightly out of the money. Now that premiums are higher, I can go significantly farther OTM and insulate myself against bigger moves. Of course, with CSPs, I only need to worry about big moves to the downside- if the stock goes up, I just cash out sooner. I own 100 shares of QQQ, and I’m getting over $100 in premium for 2 DTE covered calls that are about 2% OTM. I definitely wasn’t able to do that before the war.
QQQ low today was 571.66, I can’t see prices anymore but they must have been at least $4, probably more. I think this position must have cleared 10 mil. $400x25k contracts?
I read all of that and have no clue so I guess I’m glad I sold my QQQ in my taxable account in February and will have to file quarterly taxes for the first time ever but no longer hold QQQ.
Why do elons companies get 300-400 p/e by default? Never touching QQQ shares because of this and MSTR and Tesla.
Seems like you'd be better off with just SPX or QQQ. When the yield is good it's probably like 12% and when it's bad it's probably negative.
Ok here’s another question. I bought 20 shares of QQQ at 575 on margin. Is it ok to deposit 2k a month until it’s “paid off” or is that uncommon and I should just sell it at a short term profit? I wanted to hold it long term… but is that stupid on margin?
I’ll risk keeping 0.3% of my investments in QQQ
You will eat that shit no matter what. Musk has a deal to get spaceX into qqq after just 1 week. He will most likely get in SPY as well less than a month. So every 401k that buys QQQ and SPY will be eating this giant pile of shit.
I have already completely exited IWM because of this and just hoping QQQ and QQQM get above cost basis before the change. Effing timing …with chaos clown in the WH.
bitcoin lags QQQ again? no way
Sentiment is correct. Terminally online Redditors are consistently wrong about the stock market. Actual companies are making money hand over fist. If you got your news from earnings reports, rather than Truth Social posts, you’d know this. The K-shaped economy is in full effect and trying to make a Mag-7-less “QQQ” is absolutely idiotic.
150k in QQQ options instead of NDX is insane

SPY and QQQ is really like the Dog meme where everywhere & its surroundings are on fire... but its saying Everything is fine lulz..
Calls on both QQQ and NVDA? Do you know something the rest of us dont. If you're gonna gamble like that why not SPX 100x the fun
Maybe Bob is sitting on like a super high QQQ start. Those of us that bought that last dip I think are going to be sitting just fine..
i bought QQQ puts... might be fucked, who knows anymore.
I actually got 300 QQQ puts near close, and realized the IV was so high I was gonna be 2/3rds down if the market just opened flat. No thank you, sold all and going to go outside
Shorting Bitcoin +long QQQ still the greatest method ever. originally my idea in 2025, still running it now
Iran needs to hit QQQ headquarters in the middle east. That’s the solution.
lol, QQQ just pumping at the end of the day after recovering from a 2% loss with oil prices up 10%, beautiful, love to see it.
how the fuck is IWM up .7% after being down 2% this morning and QQQ being red. Normally if QQQ is down .5% IWM is down 1%. complete bullshit
The mag7 is almost half of QQQ at this point. Can you even consider it an index fund? And it’s even 1/3 of SPY. If the AI revolution disappoints even the slightest, a lot of portfolios are going to get hurt
QQQ the land of degenerate option traders.
I am 40% in SPY/VOO, 25% in QQQ, 15% BRK, 10% cash, 5% GLD, and 5% Bitcoin. If you are holding tech (or QQQ, you would have noticed that the downturn had already started before the war. I have just been increasing my cash position since the war started and kinda regret not buying some SPY when it hit 630 earlier this week. I think any moves below 640 wil be bought quickly from now on.
QQQ $590C? Inverse WSB? Thoughts? Or is it too regarded? What do my fellow regards think?
I haven’t seen manipulation this obvious in awhile. Max pain QQQ is obviously below 583$ NVDIA and MSFT will pump/sell to ensure it stays in the range. Fuckers.
oil back to it's highs as far out as June and July. August almost. SPY/QQQ: meh. it's cool. that's only a few months. I'm sure it'll all blow over.
Greed will get ya man. QQQ opening -2% is about as good as it gets, very limited upside and a much higher chance it would recover (like it did). Lesson (hopefully) learned.
VIX red and QQQ green EOD pls dear algos
I am holding one last put, QQQ 540p 4/24. I will never buy another put again under this admin. Until the next time.
My brother… if you bought 680 calls on QQQ, when the market dunked this week, you could have turned $4k in $150k. Keep up those returns though, alright? Alright.
If this is still open he is making a profit now with QQQ 245pm
QQQ is growth, those are broad market. SCHG or VUG may be better potential replacements?
Well its nasdaq However many funds like VTI already include newly IPOed companies very quickly like with in 5-20 days This would make QQQ more like VTI because VTI is already doing this
Ah.. so is this topic kinda overblown since VTI has already operated like this? Maybe it's not a big deal that QQQ acts similarly if VTI already works this way? Or is it mainly just a big deal because of how SpaceX investment is structured internally?
Isn't this float adjusted so the impact to QQQ may not be as bad since SpaceX is only selling a small portion of the company?
I am asking which funds are vulnerable, and which funds are not.. So if people want to avoid the vulnerability, how should they adjust their portfolio? Seems like I have some things wrong, but your post didn't really clear up my questions. Are you saying that QQQ and VTI will be vulnerable to SpaceX's manipulation, and SPY and VOO aren't?
Fair concern but I'd push back a bit. Nasdaq changing its methodology is not new - it's rebalanced concentration rules multiple times since the dot-com era. SpaceX getting fast-tracked doesn't change the index's DNA, it just means more growth exposure, which is exactly why most QQQ holders bought it in the first place. The real question is whether the valuation premium you're paying for that growth actually delivers. I built my own 25-stock factor basket in my taxable account a few years back - quarterly rebalanced - and it's worked well, but it requires discipline most people don't want to deal with. If concentration risk is genuinely the concern, M1 Finance handles exactly the custom allocation use case you're describing without needing minimum thresholds.
Get this right. VIX +3%, Oil +10%, and QQQ/SPY not dumping? It is a fake out, bull trap, beware. Dont say you weren't warned.
it's going to be funny when you underperform QQQ
Oil pumping and QQQ pumping at the same time is the most retarded thing the market could do, so of course it's going to do exactly that.
what ? QQQ is affected by this rule SPY and VOO both track the same index , S&P500 what has its own requirements VTI already adds new IPOs basically in 5 days so VTI wouldn't need to adopt the rule they already have the same rule for years.
So which funds? QQQ and SPY? VOO and VTI are okay? Everyone should basically switch from SPY to VOO right then?
Start war: QQQ +5%, end war: +10%. Infinite money glitch.
QQQ STILL IN A BEARISH TREND ON THE DAILY https://preview.redd.it/pcguglgnctsg1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aaa606370572d7c08e5fc115c4e443dce5f2867d
SPY QQQ DOW still red🤦
My tin foil hat observation is MMs are using NVDIA and Microsoft to prop up QQQ above 582.50 to avoid too many out contracts expiring ITM.
Shout out to the guy who bought 400k in calls on QQQ and NVIDIA that expire monday
Had to use AI to get a better understanding of this. Here's what it said. Basically what OP said but in different words: **Why the 15-Day Rule is a "Cheat Code" for Insiders** In a traditional IPO, a company might trade for 6 months or a year before hitting a major index. During that time, the "hype" often dies down, and the price corrects. But under the new 15-day "Fast Entry" rule: - Forced Demand: By Day 15, trillions of dollars in passive funds (like QQQ) are legally required to buy the stock to match the index. - Price Support: This massive wave of "forced buying" creates a high price floor. - The "Exit" Strategy: When the 180-day lock-up finally expires, the insiders aren't selling into a volatile, uncertain market. They are selling into a market that has been propped up for five months by every pension fund and 401(k) in the country that tracks the Nasdaq-100. **The "Float Multiplier" Distortion** Nasdaq will now use a multiplier (up to 3x or 5x depending on the final methodology) for low-float stocks. Example: If SpaceX only lists 5% of its shares for the public, Nasdaq might tell index funds to buy as if 25% were available. This creates a "scarcity squeeze." Because so few shares are actually available to trade, the massive demand from index funds can drive the price to astronomical levels. Insiders then wait for their lock-up to expire and sell their shares at these "distorted" prices. **Summary of the Timeline** - Day 1: IPO happens. Only a tiny "float" (e.g., 5-10%) is available. - Day 15: Passive index funds are forced to buy, likely at a premium. - Day 180: Lock-up expires. Founders and insiders can now sell their massive stakes into the "deep liquidity" provided by the index funds. All this because Elon isn't satisfied with just being a poor billionaire.
I bought ATM 1 dte QQQ puts yesterday at market close, cashed first thing in AM. Reloaded some at puts expiring next week on the rip up, 580, we will see
MMs if you're reading this. bring QQQ to 576 as an act of kindness
Another brand new account with a hidden history posting political FUD about index fund investing. My focus is long term passive investing, including QQQ, anything these companies do in the short term will be noise.
Can we go back to 572 for QQQ so I can make the right decision
The concentration risk in the Nasdaq has been building for years. The top 10 names in the QQQ now make up something like 55-60% of the index, which means you are not really getting sector diversification, you are getting a handful of megacap bets. For investors who already have heavy 401k exposure to S&P 500 or total market, layering in more Nasdaq exposure is almost redundant because of the overlap. The question worth asking is whether you actually have a view on those specific companies or if you just like the branding of "tech investing." If it is the latter, VTI or even a small tilt to small cap value might give you better long term diversification for the risk you are taking.
Still can’t believe QQQ was 637 last October. I feel like I’ve been playing catchup for 7 months now

Oil up 11% XLE barely up 0.5% SPY and QQQ flat Someone is lying. lol
I guess $584 is the number for the powers that be to avoid max pain on QQQ. The manipulation is hilarious.
I was referring to the QQQ puts. NKE puts is greed, but also NKE been dropping for years so not a bad long term hold

This is fucking insane. Fake news it will jump like 5%, real war prolonging and it drops 1.5% and then recovers the same day, this is shit. QQQ biggest POS I had to endure
Some retard bought 52,000x QQQ 580P 4/2exp $16M premium yesterday. He definitely made bank. lol
pure regardium. QQQ.... safe haven?
QQQ is being treated as a safe haven. It traded for so long between 595 and 605 and now, with Oil up nearly 100 percent and the "leadership" (??!) completely off the rails, we're like 4 percent below that range and buying. It takes a long time to kill the bull.
Where does QQQ bottom out today? Holding ODTE puts so stressful.
QQQ down 2 percent overnight. That’s kinda a lot, maybe if it pumps, might buy some puts, but def selling at open.
Shorting the shit out of the QQQ but the bitch doesnt go wothout the fight
Man I wish I had bought more than just 8 of those QQQ $584P yesterday. Oh well. Now the question is do I dump at open or hold expecting more downside? Trading is a pain in the ass, I just wanna buy stocks and hold them but the market refuses to give good long term entries
