So glad they fired the old BSL director. This new one rocks!

BSL CLOs dwarf private credit in terms of size. Private credit loans tend to be middle market or smaller. Probably more risky because of the size obviously. But in terms of systemic risk the banks should be insulated.

Mentions:#BSL

1. Bank loans to private credit funds come in the form of NAV loans or subscription lines. NAV loans are typically between 10-25%, with some exceptions. Even if private credit accounting overstates NAV by double, banks are still in the clear by a wide margin. Subscription lines are essentially investment grade, as they lend against LPs commitments. 2. Not sure where you’re getting the info for private credit in CLOs, but typically CLOs are buyers of broadly-syndicated loans. Like 95%+ of the time. The only time they buy private credit is in a BSL takeout (company can’t get a deal done in the BSL markets and flips to private credit) and since the loans are structurally similar, the CLO buyer may stay on for the refi. These “private credit” deals are adjacent to their BSL counterparts, typically just B3 and below credits that needed heavily structured loan docs, more niche/riskier borrowers, etc. The risk/reward is the same as BSL loans, and thus there is some (not a lot of) CLO buyers. 3. The “insurance companies have 20% exposure to private credit” is false, to my knowledge. Life insurance, long-term annuities and other long duration assets match well with illiquid investments like PC. Those insurers might have up to 20%. I’ve read closer to 15% but either way, they have a ton of exposure. The total global insurance exposure is likely in or around ~5%. If you’re including CLOs in your tabulation, don’t. They’re very different things. 4. Financial institutions are typically low beta, and the odds of failure are very low for the “fortress” BB balance sheets. If you want to make a bet directionally towards your thesis find publicly traded issuers that have outstanding private credit and short them. If your 2008-adjacent scenario occurs, they will not be able to refi and the equity will become worthless.

So many ill informed people surrounding private credit and evergreen funds. Default rates in middle market private credit, historically have been lower than BSL or HY. The asset class benefits from smaller club (lenders) that can work strategically with the portfolio company/sponsor should the business underperform. Gates and redemption limits are explicitly detailed in offering docs and investors sign up knowing very well they are buying into funds primarily invested in illiquid assets. I’m long BX, OWL, and ARCC. Those mgmt fees aren’t going away and the underlying collateral quality seems to still be sound. AI and software disruption is real - but definitely a bit overblown as it relates to many of the businesses these PC managers lended to.

This is the damage that’s already been done by this administration refusing data and blatantly wanting to hide/manipulate it. Firing the head of BLS does this to us and the country. How can we trust any numbers coming out of BSL anymore? That’s it, it’s done. They’ve destroyed independency of and trust in US economic data.

The risk in private credit CLO is more so that the underlying loans are relatively illiquid, and because of that it is difficult or impossible to mark the holdings to market the same way you would BSL or say high-yield bonds. The CLO structure is intended to help this somewhat, however it hasn’t ever really been tested to the extreme as far as market stress, for instance during extreme market stress sell offs in BSL CLO ETFs have at times traded at a significant discount to NAV, with a private credit CLO there is much less clarity in the underlying loans and very little market for them to update pricing to. Now think about this logically for a second, the underlying loans are made to middle market companies, with historically reasonable default rates. Because of the tranched nature of the CLO as with any CLO there is certainly a risk of collapse in the very lowest tranches of the CLO though the higher tranches are generally quite safe. Ultimately in the case of a credit crunch if the middle market companies are unable to rollover debts due to lack of creditors (these are typically companies seeking non-bank financing so we can assume they are on the “riskier” side as far as lending them money) there is certainly a possibility to see elevated default rates, in which case the value destruction of the loan defaults will proportionally be translated into the CLO, however because of its capital structure the lower tranches of the CLO take on a majority of the overall risk in the CLO, hope this helps 👍🏻

The last missing and very important piece of the crash was the role of AIG. Fixed income investors and banks had massive CDS (single name and index) positions and AIG couldn’t cover the insurance when it was time to pay. This added to the liquidity crunch across uncorrelated asset classes (BSL TLBs, CLOs, IG HY).

I’m not sure what you’re defining as bio labs but there are definitely labs that handle and deal with diseases (BSL-4 handles live, dangerous pathogens) so there’s always the risk of bio terrorism. Now I’m assuming by biolab you mean bioweapons lab, which are definitely possible although unlikely they’d be found in Ukraine (I believe that’s what Russia is referring to). Current BSL-4 labs study the transmission, infectivity, and treatment development of pathogens but in doing so they can possibly create even more dangerous pathogens, but it is claimed it would all be purely for research purposes.

What the propaganda sheep are missing is the difference between a research lab and a warfare lab. The US supports BSL-3/4 labs in many countries, primarily because when they can analyze their own samples and share them with us it benefits the US directly. The story is a complete nothingburger propaganda piece from the Kremlin.

Awesome News today! Theralase® Demonstrates Proof-of-Concept for Canadian-Made COVID-19 Vaccine Toronto, Ontario – February 7, 2022, Theralase® Technologies Inc. (“Theralase®” or the “Company”) (TSXV: TLT) (OTCQB: TLTFF), a clinical stage pharmaceutical company focused on the research and development of light activated Photo Dynamic Compounds1 (“PDC”) and their associated drug formulations intended for the safe and effective destruction of various cancers, bacteria and viruses, has demonstrated proof-of-concept for the development of a Canadian-made SARS-CoV-2 (“COVID-19”) vaccine. In August 2020, Theralase® reported that it had executed a Sponsored Research Agreement (“SRA”) with the University of Manitoba (“UM”) medical microbiology department to commence research and development of a Canadian-made vaccine, utilizing Theralase®’s patented and proprietary PDC, TLD-1433. In November 2020, Theralase® reported that, UM was able to demonstrate that TLD-1433 was effective in the rapid destruction of various viruses, including: H1N1 Influenza, Zika and a Biological Safety Level (“BSL”)-2 coronavirus at low nanomolar (“nM”) concentrations. All these enveloped viruses are similar in structure to SARS-CoV-2 virus (BSL-3), which is responsible for COVID-19. These initial results strongly suggested that Theralase®’s PDC technology may be used to develop an inactivated virus vaccine2 that may be effective against COVID-19 and hence warranted further preclinical evaluation. Further research by UM also identified that the spike protein responsible for the transmission of a coronavirus into a host cell, remained intact after light-activated TLD-1433 inactivation, suggesting that the vaccine developed by this technology could potentially stimulate a protective antibody immune response in a mammalian host. In April 2021, Theralase® reported that it had executed a Collaborative Research Agreement (“CRA”) with the Public Health Agency of Canada’s (“PHAC”) National Microbiology Laboratory to further expand upon the research and development achieved at UM, by researching and developing a Canadian-based COVID-19 vaccine. Under the terms of the agreement, Theralase® and PHAC are collaborating on the research, development and optimization of a COVID-19 vaccine by inactivating the SARS-CoV-2 virus with Theralase®’s light-activated PDC, TLD-1433. Theralase® is pleased to be able to report today that PHAC has demonstrated that light-activated TLD-1433, was effective in rapidly inactivating the SARS-CoV-2 virus by up to 99.99%, compared to control in an in vitro study. Further research is required to confirm these findings. These results have now laid the groundwork for the next phase of the CRA, which is evaluating the Theralase® COVID-19 vaccine in the ability to prevent animals from contracting COVID-19, when exposed to the virus. Darwyn Kobasa, Ph.D., Head, High Containment Respiratory Virus Group, Special Pathogens, PHAC, stated "My team’s initial results indicate that, when activated by light, TLD-1433 is very effective in inactivating the COVID-19 virus at low concentrations, thus demonstrating proof-of-concept in the development of a Canadian-made COVID-19 vaccine.” Kevin Coombs, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Medical Microbiology at UM, stated, “The work conducted at my lab and the work conducted by PHAC’s National Microbiology Laboratory, has demonstrated that a large range of enveloped viruses can be successfully inactivated by light-activated TLD-1433 at low concentrations. I am delighted that Theralase®’s and my initial preclinical research has proven to be effective in COVID-19. Dr. Arkady Mandel, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc., Interim Chief Executive Officer and Chief Scientific Officer, Theralase® stated, “The latest preliminary results by Dr. Kobasa and Dr. Coombs, demonstrates that the Theralase® vaccine may potentially be effective as a Canadian-made wholly-inactivated vaccine to prevent individuals from contracting COVID-19 in the future and warrants further research to confirm the findings. The research also demonstrates that the Theralase® platform is extremely versatile, with an ability to be applicable to a wide range of enveloped viruses. This would allow the Company to tailor the vaccine to be potentially effective against contracting various viruses (existing and/or new) and their associated variants. Based on this encouraging data, the Company intends to move forward in the research, development and commercialization of the Theralase® COVID-19 vaccine, subject to the required regulatory approval.” 1 PDCs are Light sensitive compounds that when activated by light at a particular wavelength can produce reactive oxygen species that can cause inactivation of cells or viruses through oxidative stress. 2 The Company does not claim or profess that they have the ability to treat, cure or prevent the contraction of the COVID-19 coronavirus. About TLD-1433 TLD-1433 is a patented PDC with over 10 years of published peer reviewed preclinical research and is currently under investigation in a Phase II Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (“NMIBC”) clinical study for Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (“BCG”)-Unresponsive patients at 5 Canadian Clinical Study Sites (“CSS”) and 7 US-based CSS. About Theralase® Technologies Inc.: Theralase® is a clinical stage pharmaceutical company dedicated to the research and development of light activated Photo Dynamic Compounds and their associated drug formulations intended to safely and effectively destroy various cancers, bacteria and viruses. Cool beans, buddy. Thanks for the kindness. Forgive my ignorance, could you please tell me what HPC means, (?) the only thing I can think of is health policy. I've sent many wee ones on to degrees in that area. I tend to push them into geriatric, so they can print, with the Boomers need it and all.... Yet, many of my students, while at Emory, had the cray cray internships at the CDC, where you have to stay at home for 6 months, paid ;D, because you just got infected with so much shit---some call it inoculation. lol. ... Seriously, the BSL-4 or 5 level stuff is not something I recommend my students do in field work anymore. But, I do think folks should consider that as they look at Ginkgo. Imagine sending your interns (wee ones) to JFK to swab all the folk returning from the Haagh. Not racist or Islamaphobe! We just knew it was the largest vector gathering on the planet. Always looking for microbes, me. lol. To be very fucking fair, they were the first to shut down, and they rocked Mecca, when everything went down back in the day. Is it so long now that we don't remember the field hospitals in Wuhan or the shutdown of Mecca? This video is pure propaganda, but they took down the shit I was linking to in January. So, all we have is a pretty video now of February 2nd. Still it is telling... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53nhErXUd9A](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53nhErXUd9A) I remain grateful to Ginkgo and my syn bio network on social media everyday. They saved my life while living overseas. They heard me when I said in January, this is not joke. I will always be loyal to MIT and Gingko and will gladly give them my investment dollars.
