OP, The better question is which companies do you like ? I'll give you my basic investing strategy. Any stock I buy I will thin 1/3 of the position if the stock price doubled and once I eventually get all of my initial investment out of it( other 1/3 thinning of the position as the stock goes up ) . I will continue to hold that position and forget about that stock. I will use that money I received to invest into another company. My most recent purchases between April to about 1 month ago were ( most recent first then moving out further to early April ) HFWA, LNKB, JVA, PFE, UCTT, WDC, SMCI, BAC, GLAD, LCID. There have been several positions I have thinned in the past 6 months yet my bias is to accumulate thin and then accumulate. I'll explain my reasoning. 1- longer term the stock market has tended to rise. 2- Eventually I might want this money in retirement 3- most likely my kids will outlive me and they can go WTF was he thinking. 4- I've heard several times that had a person invested 1,000 in stock x y or z they would be a millionaire today so I have kept the long term in kind looking out 40 years. 5- I look at stock indexes as a very well managed portfolio. 6- there is nothing wrong with investing in the sp 500 because that index by itself tends to out perform most people's portfolios. I'll summarize. The SP 500 is your simplest investment to hold onto

When $GLAD reverse split in April of this year I had no trouble selling my newly priced calls for profit. Not to go against the common opinion, but my experience wasn’t all doom and gloom like these other comments.

I'm investing 70% in divident aristocrats, like O, GLAD, and similar stocks that offer divident in excess of 5% and have a long history of paying up through multiple recessions and various economic crises. If the business is solid, has good track record for dividents and no foreseeable disruptions to basic business model, I just throw my money there. Little growth, but consistent. And when there's appreciation, that's just a cherry on the cake.

Yes, traps. As long as those companies continue to lose money (whether it be Quarter-over-Quarter or Year-over-Year) then their stock price cannot be expected to well either. Currently, the Business Development sector is the highest yielding one at the moment (and their business is profitable) if that is what you're looking for. Stocks like these ones are all 8%+ yields: BCSF, GBDC, ARCC, GLAD, OMF, TSLX, OBDC, HTGC

I didn't see anything in the last earnings conference to imply a dividend cut. But I'll admit that I'm not good at figuring how to value these BDCs. I have held positions various Gladstone BDCs in the past. And the BDCs have always seemed to be well run. The one thing that could happen is if GLAD decides to raise capital by issuing more shares. The reverse split does reduce the number of shares outstanding so it's now about half the number of authorized shares. But again - someone smarter about Gladstone businesses will have to comment. A BDC that is raising capital for their investment portfolio may be viewed differently than a company raising capital to pay down debt, etc.
I don't think you can really compare a company like GLAD doing a reverse stock split with other types of companies who may be doing a reverse split to stay listed. I only took a cursory look but it didn't seem like GLAD fundamentals have changed much in the last quarter.
I am coming here still in a bit of shell-shock that I can't shake. My favorite investment -- GLAD --- issued a reverse stock split 1 to 2 on Friday (I logged on when the stock was offline, though Fidelity was glitched). I had no clue they were doing this, and in my panic Googling, the consensus of my "research" is that a stock reverse is generally a bad thing. It means a company is not doing well and trying to artificially create value in hopes of stabilizing its stock price. Well, GLAD has been occilating around $10 a share for awhile. It's a BDC. It's not going to take a rocket to $20 or $30 a share. It's a high dividend payer. Has anyone had a stock issue a reverse stock split -- and did you cash out and move into a new position? I cashed out this morning, but I don't know what to do. I had been playing GLAD as my long-term dividend snowball stock, and now I feel fucked.
