This is what I walked into when I graduated from college in 2008. People like yourself looking for the same jobs that I was looking for, while they had a full resume to work with. I had my college diploma and a job working at Sears and some random skills and competencies. Took me a year to find an entry level job in my field which lasted a year and a half before being laid off. Regrouped and got another entry level job after about four months….and was then laid off after about two years. Took another year to find another job close to my field, meaning that I was starting from scratch at the very bottom more than five years after graduating. I have been able to work my way back up, but I know the math and I am effectively ten years behind where I would have expected to be in terms of income and two additional weeks short of vacation time per year that I would have expected. I didn’t have a breakdown that I can remember, but I was definitely struggling and didn’t have any other option but to keep managing to make it through the week. Several years ago I talked about this to one of my bosses who said that this was a great redemption story and one of perseverance. Had to explain to him that it wasn’t, and that it was just desperation and survival in situation after situation where I had zero control. It was bs and nobody should have to go through that. It didn’t make me stronger, but it did make me hate the system and the fact that it took me so long to realize that we had all been sold the lie that hard work is how you succeed. That is bs and I know now for a fact that PURE LUCK has much more to do with it.

They fake you out with chart patterns and false signals from oscillators. The post is literally telling you to do everything that helps “trap” traders, as the post describes. The KEY to winning in day trading against institutions is to THINK LIKE AN INSTITUTION. When I began my journey in trading I delved deep into a vast array of research studies on both retail and institutional trading. Believe it or not, retailers actually lose the most money from fees, arguably from overtrading. Thus, the biggest hurdle for retail traders is actually overtrading. Nonetheless, as a retail trader, success comes from trading as institutions trade, NOT trading chart patterns like the 90% of losing traders. In other words, if you’re doing what others are doing, then you’re doing it WRONG. I made $1.3 million in 2024 within 8 months. I was able to do that by adopting strategies that institutions apply and also trading adversely to some of those strategies. I learned momentum and volatility strategies are statistically the top performing trading strategies with the best returns, so I gathered all of the information I could about them. Edge and a good trading strategy WILL NOT be found in common trading strategies; particularly those that rely on chart patterns. The best trading strategy will be one you create on your own based on your own knowledge and information. In sum, if you want to become successful at trading you have to trade like those that are successful- the institutions. Learn their strategies and adopt and apply them. Stability and visibility is really important to the operations of massive, rich, but slow companies. They need to be able to understand the future, and plan for it. This administration has been PURE chaos for these companies since late February. It's not just that the policies themselves are anti-business and anti-consumer, it's that there doesn't even seem to be any plan or logic to them and they change constantly. MVST is one of my long term holds; I have covered calls on it. The fact that it is even optional shows that there is belief in multi year value- they just need to actually demonstrate it. They have the top line growth and real revenue- they just need to start showing that positive bottom line. Primary method is sizing. Second method is managing correlation at the portfolio level. The edge as a retail options trader is not massive. Protection costs a lot on a relative basis. We need to accept and bear risk to make money. I see retail traders far too often become way too wary of risk and seek protection at every turn, which becomes a vicious cycle that eventually will run them out of a profitable business. That being said, there are times for hedges, specifically if I have a large position on, have a levered portfolio, etc. However, the hedges are specific, time bound, and I expect them to lose. Another bullshit lie people sell themselves is: "i'll hedge this trade and then take the hedge off at a profit as the trade rebounds". This is PURE goldilocks analysis and completely misunderstands how to actually hedge because when your hedge is profitable is when you need it the most to actually manage the risk on the base position.
