Let me be frank: it is PURE capitalism. In capitalism, capital flows by Adam Smith's invisible hand from those who cannot use it effectively to those who can. Although not quite directly. Are you braindead? How can a fat cat stake mining coins? You can't, the only way to get extra coins in PoW is to MINE. you have to put energy in, you have to put money back into the economy to buy resources and maintenance to keep your mining rigs running. Miners provide a service, they solve puzzles for you (which you can also do yourself but it is just better/faster/cheaper to hire a professional) so you can do your transaction. Validators do not provide a service, they act like centralized legislators, they do not do anything. It's just a stamping machine and that's it ("I, by authority of being a recognized validator, approve of your transaction"). You understand now why it's so fast? Because it's just a STAMPING MACHINE! Anyway, that is also why most if not all PoS blockchains have a core set of no more than 50 validators, because everyone can mine but not everyone is allowed to be a validator... You need to have a "stake" in the game after all. So yeah, the point is that mining rigs cost alot of money to maintain. Because initially, the cryptocurrencies of those smart contract platforms were sold to fund the development of their respective blockchain. It is also done to incentivice miners to help secure the network in some PoW SC Blockchains. They get coins as a reward, and there are sure buyers for it. However, I think Price does not fully negatively affect the performance of some coins, TRAFFIC does. We can have a 90 dollar Ether or a 2000 dollar Ether and the ETHEREUM blockchain will run just the same. In fact, prices drive adoption more. 60k BTC and 4k ETH made a lot of companies and central banks turn their heads to warm up to the idea of crypto. To be fair tho, the price action of most coins today is PURE SPECULATION. Imo, we still don't have the technology to backup our prices. But it is up to us how we could help the cryptospace grow.

I answered this below but I'm reposting this to give more background to the crypto fam that has no clue why da fuk these people won't shut up about GME and AMC and other meme stocks. I was until very recently Diamond handing both Crypto and GME (and a bit of AMC). I exited crypto completely some 9 days ago when it became clear it was crashing because of the traditional financial markets shenanigans and the crash would continue (because the financial markets crash has only just begun). I'm a big believer in crypto and I'm sure it will come roaring back, but I don't think it will be stable until after the stock market crashes and stabilizes. ​ There are tonnes of DD on Superstonk explaining the nuclear bomb of illegally shorted stocks (the most shorted being GME) but I try to make a summary of the major reasoning: If you have all the money in the world, COVID hits, and you're a lunatic hedgefund manager that knows you can bankrupt any small company you want (because you can use naked shorts aka fake shares as you're working together with market makers and banks), then you go to work heavy shorting "slam dunks 99% certain" microcaps. The main reason microcaps are perfect targets are 3 fold: \- usually nobody stops to study why microcaps crashed to 0, they also die much easier than a huge company. Trying to short Facebook to death would be a fucking nightmare, maybe even impossible. Usually nobody is paying attention to what happens to microcaps. \- when the microcap goes bankrupt, the shorts never have to deal with any naked shorts or fails to deliver. Its PURE profit, no shares need to be given back = nobody discovers their illegal shorts. \- It gets better. If the microcap is a brick and mortar (Toys-r-Us, GME, Blockbuster, AMC), the HFs also will profit by getting their real estate (thousands of shops) for pennies on the dollar. Their targets tend to be brick-and-mortar companies, usually the explanation on media is something like "people prefer the internet"... "poor toys-r-us couldnt sell". The real reasoning is that its great to bankrupt a company with thousands of shops, they profit TWICE, first from the short bet and then from getting the real estate almost for free. Gamestop (among others such as AMC) was a perfect target for this shit. Michael Burry detected this and wrote about it more than a year ago. More shares than were issued were SHORT. \- Retail starts diverting attention and money from around the world to GME \- Some shorts start covering and the price starts driving up, culminating in the January squeeze. \- Citadel/Robinhood and many other brokers conspire to stop trading all at the same time (and reddit also crashs in the same moment), only allowing retail to SELL GME but NOT BUY, while also heavily shorting GME and driving the price down by 80% in less than 2 days. Magically the short position is vanished out of existance. The numbers being given by the market become completely fake. \- The reddit apes didnt sell, driving the price of GME back up over time. \- GME pays all outstanding long-term debt. \- GME sells shares into the market and builds a 500M$ war chest, making bankruptcy impossible. \- The price stays locked for 3 months in the range around 180$ with price spikes that are related to the FTD cycles. BTW, next cycle hits this week - pay attention to the price this week. \- The reddit apes double down and continue their crusade until the MOASS happens and all shorts are forced to cover and go back to the fucking hell they came from. \- GME and the Ape army have the hedgies by the balls now. Voting for the next shareholder meeting will be announced on 9th of June, where it should become clear that the company was illegally manipulated by issuance of Millions of synthetic shares. \- SEC/DTCC and other self-regulating agencies start pushing new laws in a hurry and effective immediately to try to contain the damage of what happens next. \- The situation continues to become worse for the HFs and market makers, not only the short stocks refuse to die but now they have to deal with higher liquidity requirements from the FED/SEC/DTCC, forcing them into pump and dumps to raise capital and eventually cash out of the crypto markets (last 2 weeks of crypto hell). When these companies didn't die and Covid lockdowns started opening, Hedgies started shitting their pants and started covering - all of them shot up and then were heavily shorted again to contain their damage. For me, the play here is clear (All in GME & AMC), I had to exit crypto until we're out of the mayhem that already started. Crypto is being manipulated by the same masters of the universe that wanted to make money from bankrupting these companies. When the dust settles, I do hope crypto won't suffer from this manipulation again. Yep, I got into safemoon at .000004. As it exploded, I thought, holy shit, I might make an insane amount of money. Nope, when it hit .000012, and lost steam, I realized this project is dead. Then I saw it being written on many articles, ads on Facebook! Except the ads were for a scam group that stole your coins and the articles linked to the same scam, which wasn't the actual Safemoon project. When it hit .0000103 yesterday, I noped the fuck out of there. I made a good 500$, which is cool, but my eyes were imagining a retirement fund out of them. These shit coins you can make good money, but you have to set a realistic return, like 10x, and then just get out. So many people do the math and think "if they can just knock off one more zero, then I'd be rich!" and those same people are left the bag holders. Maybe one out of a hundred or so projects actually do end up knocking off those zeros, like DOGE, but that is the exception not the rule. Then again, I made 10k off SHIBA on a thousand dollars or so investment. PURE luck.
