First of all , i never said live off the interest But there are ways to invest that are not only mostly tax free but relatively safe. Oh it's even more constrained than that. A large number of Airbus jets are still grounded for maintenance on the PW1100G-JM turbine. RTX isn't projected to be done with that until 2026. Even some of the GE LEAP-1B turbines are down, which affects Boeings ability to deliver planes. All of this stuff is known and resolved but it constrains current capacity. Airlines wanted planes that used less fuel, which these engines do, but they're new and "stuff happens"

Why would you have thought they were going to pull through? Zero evidence that the company can ever regain profitability. I am certain that BB (as with GME) is under scrutinty as the MM have been manipulating the stock and colluding with the hedgefunds since Blackberry's new debenture in 2020 with the holders been locked in with a standstill and conversion only on maturity...this was a poorly crafted document which PW and the other holder got hoodwinked by RBC Capital which held the shares as trustee and provided 60M shares as free lending which were used by both the MM and hedgies as their daily piggy bank with unrelenting shorting but their over confidence resulted in the blip in Jan 2021 in the meme run at which time the SWAPS entered the scene and so itt became a vicious cycle and all the game playing to try and get the issuing of shares but not to the debenture holders in order to close out their shorts..PW provided a short term extension of the debentures for 25M shares but held them privately much to the chagrin of the shorts.
The last time the prices went up significantly I unsubscribed and started PW sharing my mom's account. So that's a double fail for Netflix.
With regard to BB: Today's trading facts: The total volume traded pre-market and regular trading hours was about\~30.6 M shares of which 10 698 698 shares were shorted and so if they were covered 2X (\~21.5M) by end of day with VWAP at $3.27. After hours \~1.1Million shares unlike in the past the shares were low volume thus perhaps retail. Was this short covering or new buyers jumping in the meme run started by Roaring Kitty. The shares on the dark pool was 15,124,311...so in reality how many shares were taken off retail hands is the big question. As it is evident that even from the early posting of 13F that institutions are buying in..the VWAP for 120 days is $2.90 except for the last four days. Retail hold on to your shares from predatory hands...lock them up for sale price so brokerages cannot borrow them for shorting...reduce the liquidity for shorting. In addition, do not put stops and do not buy shares on margin as below $3...the shares were scooped by the brokerages. You may ask how do the big boys pick off the shares...they use a third or fourth decimal to the bid in the dark pool and the lit pool cannot see it but Citadel and Virtu who are the gatekeepers see and act accordingly. Kindly retail look the short interest numbers from April 30 for NYSE (42,586,717) and TSX(17,816,044) = \~60.4M which is down from 61.5M from Apr 15. From April 16-30 on NYSE 14M shares traded between $2.64-2.98 with VWAP of $2.80 and only 1.6M shares were covered while on TSX 33.8M traded between $3.66-4.00 with VWAP of $3.85 while further 543,138 shares were shorted. The present SI is well above the NYSE(43,485,405)+TSX(12,538,405)= 57,023,447 shares in Jan 2021 during the meme run! CNBC is saying that the meme run is over but in reality I am not certain. The SEC rule to be implemented is in works and the basis of the meme rally which is a lot broader this time as numerous short positions have been held with SWAPs, synthethic shares and naked shorting and this is why Roaring Kitty alerted retail but it is measured and controlled by the MM but with 60.4M shares short. How low could we go...I think a technicians say we are there with the double bottom...how many more shares can be harvested from retail? It has been 8 trading days since the share price dropped from the closing on Jan 23 at $3.55. The VWAP is $2.93. Nothing has changed in the material direction of the company except extending the debt from short term to very favorable long term which was done by Morgan Stanley who were one of the strategic reviewers of BB since May.
Well, it's all a numbers minuplation game right. In the US over all subs are actually down, but worldwide they are up. Netflix also pads the numbers, and considers existing subscribers as new subscribers if they canceled or paused their service and restarted it. How I understand how it works is you get 2/3 people on a plan, get the intro deal and share the PW with your friend. After the 3 months is over, cancel it and they put it on their card, back and forth between everyone. Even though all those people are existing subscribers, they are counted as new subscribers each time they do this. So one physical person can count for 12 people realistically. That's not even considering those who have multiple plans. Each one of those is a new sub too

I am in the industry. Unfortunately SAVE is about to (currently is) get wrecked from the Pratt & Whitney engine recall. They are the most impacted airline in the US. About half of their fleet is impacted, and according to PW, the average repair takes 250 days for this recall. SAVE is going to lose even more market share with this massive drop in capacity while their fixed costs won’t drop much. Obviously there’s plans for reimbursement from PW, however, details of that plan are still unknown. Personally, I believe there are going to be lawsuits stuck in the judicial system for years before SAVE sees appropriate compensation.
One thing people are missing is the fact the Spirit has had roughly a third of their planes AOG because of the pratt engine problems through out last year and into this year. Thats millions toss to the side waiting on Pratt to fix their PW1100 engines
TBH, this is the kind of analysis I expect here, but: - Planes can have a hole in it and not crash. It's why the drop down oxygen masks are in them in the first place. Decompression doesn't mean it just falls out of the sky. - PW engine issue isn't scary if it's the one I'm thinking of since it's basically faster degradation but you just inspect sooner and replace. The A320Neo family uses the CFM LEAP more anyways, so who really cares? - Airbus isn't Pratt and Whitney, so I guess I don't even really understand the comparison. Boeing uses PW engines in some of its planes too (e.g. 777).

Only NEO planes with PW engines have whale noise. The legacy A320 doesn’t have whale noise. The whale noise comes when gearbox resonance with the burner can. PW is the first one to put gearbox into jet engine.
I'm sure it's a decent plane (otherwise it wouldn't be used that much) but I also read in the 320 NEO variants they've mitigated the whale noise somewhat. Didn't know it's the PW's fault.
Don’t t get me wrong. I like Airbus planes. It is all fine when they run other engines, just PW is the problem here. Unfortunately, American loves PW.
PW1000G is 💩 They cheap out on material now they have to pay the price. Also this MF is loud as F. They said it would run quieter but all I hear is Fking whale noise. P.S. I live under a final approach fix of a major airport that serve mainly A220s and A320s.
Spirit is the only airline stock I’d touch and it’s only because of the JetBlue Spirit deal. Maybe allegiant because they cut costs and are consistently profitable. The deal is very attractive with huge upside potential. JetBlue has spent a lot of money, given up their northeast alliance with American, and made divestiture plans with frontier and allegiant. They are mostly after spirit for their planes. Airbus has been very slow and delayed to get their planes out to airlines and its limiting jetblue's operations. The market is pricing it as if the deal won’t go through. I think they were expecting it to not go to trial and thus the selloff. I don't really see how they wont win the trial though. The DOJ doesn't have a leg to stand on, the big four delta, united, american, and soutwest make up 70% of the market. If the merger went through jetblue would take 10% of the market making it the 5th largest. That doesn't seem too monopolistic to me. DOJ says they will raise fares hurting the average consumer. However, jetblue has said they want to merge to better compete with the legacy airlines which would probably help lower fares. I understand if they take a ULC out of the market and adapt spirit it to jetblue's model it may hurt ULC fares, but its half a dozen one six or the other at that point. Department of Justice has even cited the “JetBlue Effect,” where airline fares go down across the board when JetBlue launches new routes. One issue is it was reported Jetblue would raise fares 24-40%, though jetblue is disputing this claim. Regardless, if spirit were continue as a company they would have to raise fares. Spirit has been unprofitable for several years now and taken on more debt to survive. They will have to increase something to make a profit. Fares are up across the boards and that still isn't enough for spirit to make a profit. Another issue I see is that is doesn't seem to make much sense for jetblue to go through with this. Possibly to keep frontier from doing the same thing and preventing competition with them. Expanding operations in a recessionary environment seems counter intuitive and I would say it makes more sense to cut costs. With all that said though jetblue has spent a ton of money and made lots of concessions to make this happen. Corporate america gets what it wants. The biggest issue would be they try to refinance the deal which I don't really have a rebuttal for except that they are paying a premium over frontier for spirit and that the value comes from the assets (planes) so lower stock prices will not matter and they won't want to renegotiate. I think the judge's decision really comes down to whether spirit is a company able to stand on its own. In a recessionary environment I don't see spirit doing too well. They haven't been profitable even with a huge boom in post pandemic travel demand. They have lots of debt. They have A321 Neos with PW engines which are having issues requiring inspections and possible repairs grounding some of the fleet. Airlines have a long history of mergers. As far as I know very few have been blocked. The most recent one blocked was with American and US Airways in 2013 citing similar anti-trust reasons and that still went through. That's my thoughts. I think it seems like a no-brainer with a high risk to reward, but I may be missing something. Clearly the market sees more risk to the deal.

Upvoted. There is a tiny chance that one or another of the companies listed will either become wildly successful or bought out at a price that gives a profit to people who buy in now or hold on the current holdings. Think picks and shovels. Miracle Gro. IIPR, a REIT yielding 10% on current prices and likely to continue to do so for decades. PW, a more aggressive and speculative verstion of IIPR. And the Preferreds of PW are essentially options on the future long-term success of PW, a gamble slightly better than a PowerBall ticket.

That's possible, I'm unclear how much. Planes aren't like cars where you lease a new one every 5 years. Both RTX/PW and CFM/GE work on the razor and blades model. The issue is supposedly resolved and will be (at considerable expense) resolved in older turbines. It is more likely to boil down to economy
