GH and NTRA have had several approvals/reimbursement wins this year. Not all that close to NEO or VCYT but it seems like their core businesses are humming. TWST and ILMN are derivative plays on the industry so makes sense they'd be up too, though ILMN is more of a complicated product cycle/China story. MRVI is borderline special sits. You're 100% right on the rates argument. But also if you're an institution its much easier to be long Dx vs core tools (typically grouped together) given valuations there and the constant head fake rebounds. Also assume people are starting to shift some money within HC out of biopharma after the YTD run, and Dx gives you some similar factor exposure. Haven't seen much spec dx discussion on reddit since covid, good shit

TXG trading at the same multiple TWST was a few months ago. Not quite as awesome a business, but still really good and XBI looking increasingly bullish. Sick how cheap these names were 5-6 months ago.

Gemini pro worked great on TEM, TWST and ILMN earnings, each time it correctly interpreted earnings and even the earnings call, identified the sell over reaction and I was able to make bank on shares on the bounce back.

So I was watching an old Ancient Aliens episode the other day because I wanted to be reassured that the answer to everything is "aliens did it". Anyway, they were talking about storing data in synthetic DNA. I did some research and it is a real thing. TWST and ILMN are the tickers that are pure plays. I am up 5% since I bought them on Friday. I would be up more, but I started light and slowly bought more the last couple days.

TWST earnings: Twist Bioscience delivered its 13th consecutive quarter of sequential growth, with Q2 revenue jumping 19% YoY to $110.7M and beating guidance. The company’s core growth engine is fully operational: DNA Synthesis and Protein Solutions (DSPS) accelerated 28% YoY, buoyed by rising AI-driven drug discovery demand. Operational efficiency is improving, pushing gross margins to 51.6%. However, top-line success hasn't yet reached the bottom line. Net loss widened to $44.0M (from $39.3M a year ago), dragged down by a $7.2M litigation settlement charge and a 19% surge in SG&A expenses. Despite the cash burn, management raised full-year revenue guidance and firmly reiterated their target to achieve adjusted EBITDA breakeven by Q4 FY26.

In financials I'm big on ABX. Still extremely cheap here. I own a ton. JXN also decently cheap. I own, but it's not as exciting. KFS is technically a financial, but has a lot of other businesses going. In healthcare.... ALHC really has me interested, but I don't own it yet. They have a model of health insurance that actually tries to help it's most sick customers and thus lowers costs long term. CLPT and QURE are extremely cheap if their thesis plays out, but also early stage biotech is risky. So beware. TWST has gotten expensive, but is a great watchlist name. They make synthetic DNA for medical testing.

r/stocksSee Comment

I also held MEDP for awhile, but for names that are basically beneficiaries of AI advancing medical development I've owned TWST. Not cheap right now, but astonishing company that makes synthetic DNA for research.

The ability of AI to develop new therapies has been rapidly gaining traction the last few months. It's mind boggling how much development is going on right now. Peter Mantas posts on X and Substack about it if you want a good starting point. As far as CRL... they'll probably benefit some. MEDP is a similar company that tends to be much better run than CRL, and the stocks have reflected that. Worth a look into. There's a lot of pick and shovel plays too. I own TWST who make synthetic DNA for testing and development. There's pharma supply names too, RGEN comes to mind. Something like TRNS does a lot with lab calibration too.

Twist Bioscience (TWST) said Tuesday that it has entered a licensing agreement with Invenra to become a co-exclusive provider of Invenra's B-Body bispecific antibody platform. The companies will jointly offer the B-Body platform, which enables the rapid and precise expression and screening of complex bispecific antibodies, under the agreement, Twist said. Financial terms include a $5 million upfront cash payment and $15 million in Twist common stock to Invenra, according to the company. In a separate transaction, Twist will acquire an approximately 6% ownership stake in Invenra through a $13.8 million preferred stock purchase using Twist shares.

Add in TRNS as a servicer to biotech. I believe ATS does a lot of biotech automation too. TWST as the provider of synthetic DNA for testing.

r/stocksSee Comment

One of the reasons TWST is finally moving is that the market is seeing that it's a huge AI play. GOOG has apparently been buying their synthetic DNA to test solutions developed through DeepMind. TWST is the only company capable of making enough product to meet the demand. This sets up TWST to be the picks and shovels play for a massive AI driven market. I'm adding more on pullbacks.

It's sort of a moonshot type play, but the concept of DNA storage and computing has been contemplated for a long time. As far as who wants it? No idea now, but at least Microsoft invested in the company and has purchased strands to experiment with. I believe Bezos' company has done the same, but can't recall. It's also a known moonshot. TWST spun it out because they knew it was a "science project" and probably detracting from their overall value. It's really a fun free call option on the main thesis of TWST, which actually includes people studying cancer treatment, among other things. I can't imagine that much data either, but the way we can generate data via AI will cause the amount of information out there to explode. This is an interesting solution to store it. We'll see how it works out. It could have uses in very small things. Possibly medical nanites that can operate inside a human body. Probably a lot of other things I haven't even contemplated.

Mentions:#DNA#TWST
r/stocksSee Comment

It's not central to the thesis on TWST, but the amount of data that can be stored in microscopic spaces is the selling point. Early technology still, but in the space of that $100 hard drive you could store millions of times more data. If AI creates data at astronomic rates, the technology becomes really appealing.

As I read the suggestions of great stocks for 2026 I'm surprised by one thing: most of the suggestions are the biggest winners from last year. NBIS, RKLB, SMR..... So the consensus seems to be last year's winners will win big again. However, not a lot of gold related names in there which is interesting, and possibly telling. I'll throw out a few: ODD. Very few people are talking about the amount of stimulus written into the OBBB. We're probably looking at the highest tax refunds in awhile and people are going to spend that cash. Consumer names are beaten down by the recession talk but we're seeing above average Christmas shopping levels. Trucking. Huge amounts of capacity have come off the road. Tender rejections are the highest in years. Any kind of demand is going to spike rates. Biotech I own TWST and CRMD. Falling rates are generally good for biotech. Hopefully next year will provide some clarity on healthcare too.

r/stocksSee Comment

Subtopic.... you're much more computer savvy than I am. Have you done any work on DNA memory storage? I remember reading about it as a theory in a Ray Kurzweil book about 25 years ago, but TWST seems to actually be close to realizing it. I didn't know if it was actually a big deal or not.

Small caps as far as the eye cam see... I own a ton of ABL, but it's still super cheap. It could double and be cheap. JXN is still below book value and shredding their share count. NATL is still at single digits forward earnings. I've started buying a few shares of TWST. Trucking is still pretty cheap. CRMD could explode if they get pricing certainty.

r/stocksSee Comment

Not familiar, what do they do? For TWST the data is basically a free call option in my book. They founded the business, but spun it out recently, though retained a stake in it. The synthetic DNA is really their bread and butter.

Mentions:#TWST#DNA

Now that u/_hiddenscout is back, backlog of information to dump.... Trucking tender rejections are over 10%, the highest in years. That's really good for truckers. If we get a little demand juice as tax refunds roll in, trucking stocks are primed. HTLD calls. TWST has become my new obsession. I think AI will dramatically speed drug discovery (ODD has been doing this with cosmetics) leading to a huge surge in demand for synthetic DNA for testing. Also, they have a stake in a company that uses DNA for data storage which is a really interesting play on data centers down the road. No position yet.

r/stocksSee Comment

I've been looking through healthcare names leading into next year... here's a few I'm watching: UFPT- I own and have been adding to this one. Some short term issues are behind them and management teased new business wins upcoming during the last call. CRMD- Should have pricing clarity by June. The market is clearly not expecting much at 4-5x earnings. I think this could 2-3x on good news, but probably not much downside. I own June calls. TWST- maker of synthetic DNA for research. If AI boosts discovery, their business will explode. No position yet. What is everyone else watching in the sector?

r/stocksSee Comment

I heard about them when they IPOd... I've always had it in the too hard pile. I was fortunate that we were able to have a kid without any help, and that whole world is dizzying to me when I hear about it from friends. TWST actually came to my attention researching CRMD. There's a guy who writes about biotech a lot and it was one he's really interested in. It's actually putting up good margins and decent growth. More speculative than my usual style, but I'm still really fascinated by it.

Mentions:#TWST#CRMD

Anyone look into TWST? They manufacture synthetic DNA which is rapidly growing in popularity. It's also a stealth AI play as AI is speeding the development of new therapies. Probably not obscenely cheap, but interesting as a moonshot.

r/stocksSee Comment

I've kept an eye on the sector over the years, mostly just because I think it's interesting. Honestly, a lot of the specifics around the science go right over my head. For that reason, I've always found TWST interesting, but not convinced by their financials to touch them. Covid caused some weird valuation swings for the sector, so I don't put much thought into that and try to just focus on what each company is doing now. I've only got a few shares in CRSP (I'm definitely not into investing a large percentage of my portfolio in risky biotechs). I like that they keep enough cash on hand to not need to take desperate funding deals. I also like that they're one of the few with an approved treatment (CASGEVY). They've at least shown that they can bring these treatments to market. I also like NTLA, but it's been a little while since I've really looked at them.

TWST but they’re up a bit now. I have faith in the management team and ability to scale. They’ve been beating estimates frequently and have a solid at least temporary, maybe long lasting, competitive advantage on their core process. I’m up even higher on my O, almost 25%. Holding that though. Have almost 10x more invested in O than I did VICI. I bought more TWST, which I’ve been buying since October, FSELX, and TSLA. Bragging here is kinda dumb because I’m on subs where I’m by far the poorest person and also on others where I’m one of the richest. It’s all relative. As long as I’m hitting my personal goals that’s all I care about. Hopefully you can open yourself up to a mindset like that in 2024, all the best.

Good luck to you—you seem to get it. All that said, there is a way of being way more prepared for this than you are today. Check out my post on TWST and how I used sentiment analysis via Elliott waves to predict a doubling of the stock price (which it’s done and more). And this is a low-revenue biotech which has mostly only generated losses to date. This applies to SPX, and therein lies the most concern I have. I will have a better handle on when this happens than most, and nobody seems to care that this exists. So be it. Good luck to you, me, and everyone else.

I’m going to be watching the NASDAQ for the 21 day EMA to close above the 50 day line. It could go into a power bull trend. Whether it can sustain it not is a different matter. But if it does, Monday would be the 5th consecutive day and that’s pretty bullish. I’m going to start working a paper trading account until summer school break, when I will throw myself into learning about options trading in a decent focus period. 🤡😬😅 So on Padawan paper I am going to consider a bull put spread on Nvidia. A long put on LABU, a bear put spread on XBI, and a long call on ASML. In reality I will be watching for an entry into TWST BEAM CDLX and a re-entry into ALLO (massive inflows and chunky buys last few sessions), and I will continue to set chiseling stink bids on my $DNA. I will probably have better luck around 2pm tomorrow. I am researching those Macquarie boy’s IREN. I think it’s a good buy if we get a combination of build up to halvening and the bull boost of non QE liquidity that the rundown in reverse repos seems to be generating, it could bode well into H12024. I never talk about my trading ideas. But I am trying to learn. This sure as hell isn’t financial advice. 🤡😂😂😅

"For instance, whenever Cathy Wood talks about the secular growth trends like artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, genomics, fintech, and how these technologies will transform the economy, I can’t help but nod my head to what she is saying" There is a mentality that every disruptive technology is exciting, but the problem becomes: 1) There's more to it than that. In 2020, people acted as if every disruptive thing was a reality tomorrow. The infrastructure is not there to have autonomous driving be everywhere tomorrow, or probably 10 years from now. We can't even quickly build out EV infrasture. Something can *sound* great if you don't take into account the reality to get from point A to point B. Every "growth story" you hear is not going to be the next big thing - in fact, many aren't. 2) Her stock selection was never great but now it's not great and at times increasingly bizarre - a huge position in ZM earlier this year? You talk about genomics - ARKG has ridden NVTA (including almost 12% of the company) all the way down, not to mention other things (PACB, TDOC, DNA, TWST). I haven't looked but there was a long period where ARKK basically mirrored the Goldman Sachs Unprofitable tech index. A lot of what she owns is really low quality - she really bagheld some of the worst of 2020/21 and last I looked at her cost basis on things like TDOC it was pretty horrid. She owns things from levels that in some cases aren't getting back there for eons if ever. 3) For all the "long term view" she has on things, she flips stocks like she's a gambler on Robinhood. 4) She had a mediocre record at Alliance Bernstein before ARK. Cathie is a media-savvy marketer and in 2020 she was in the right investing place right investing time. Nancy Zevenbergen of the Zevenbergen funds runs similarly aggressive growth funds and is arguably a better stock picker and is ahead of Cathie. If Cathie had just dialed back instead of going on CNBC and talking up all the bags she was holding all the way down in 2022 she would have looked great and nothing was stopping her from doing that. Instead, for all the incessant marketing of herself, she became the face of the growth decline to the point where - a first, that I can recall that you have an ETF to short an active manager - there was an etf to short ARK. 5) Her macro stuff is pretty awful, including a wacky discussion of whale oil a year or two ago.

US baseball teams sign international 16 year olds. They look at the young person, consider the upsides and risk, and make (hopefully) appropriate contract payments. The kinds are like start up who can either take the offer or pass and wait till they are more mature, when they can presumably get a better deal. There is no secret here. You just have to use your judgment and either invest or pass. With TWST specifically, they have huge short interest betting against them. That's a lot of people passing negative judgment, but more shareholders are obviously long than short. On the positive side, they did beat with their last report, so they aren't currently failing to meet expectations. Since I don't know the field, I can't answer your question, because I would (almost) never choose a stock in a field I'm ignorant of that had mixed signals in the short/long and guidance areas. I'd want to make my decision on my knowledge of the product.

$TWST - first yolo, good buying oppty? $TWST - good buying oppty? I’ve been following twist for a while. Even visited their factory of the future in Portland last November. The company for sure had some issues to work through back then, and that was around the time of the short report. They have a massive runway in terms of operational efficiency improvements, and it seems like they’re taking the right steps toward profitability. Stock seems really cheap now plus some upside to the N.G.S business just posted on 2Q earnings shows green shoots in the business. Once the biopharma biz comes back, the stock should rip. Not to mention data storage is a huge call option if successful. I want to invest a lot (for me) like a few grand. I’ve never yolod money on one stock like this. Any thoughts if this is a good idea or general advice as I start trading? 🙏🙏

Rotated out of that last tranche of BTM 🤡 a little bit prematurely— they ring the bell on Monday. Used the clown ‘oin gains to load some biotech follies heading into early August earnings reports. Biotech winter is over for my select synbio specific teams. Happy with how my ALLO, CDXS, and TWST are coming back from the beat down. Jury is still out on my GOSS, OMIC, and TBIO. But they are still holding the line. Bloomberg consulting with my Bitdeer crew’s other unicorn 🦄 Matrixport on the halving. So that’s a vote of confidence over the better known meme miners. Bloomberg conservatives predict 81% boost. 🤡🙌🔥

Sold the last tranche of that BTM, dumped my CORZ bankruptcy play, bought moar EVO, TWST, NVTA, and started new positions in beat down Follies: GOSS, VXRT. Covid testing in Japan is 42% positive and 25% of hospital supplies for all sterile injections were just knocked out by the Pfizer tornado. Shrugs shoulders. I’m up 10k this week and have no illusions it will hold up for next 48 hours.

I've been adding to CRSP, NTLA, BEAM and recently bought SDGR and TWST. They won't ever be my largest non-weighted positions but gene editing is on the verge on a breakthrough and should be huge long term.

I’m looking forward to today. I think my DNA will rip. I will peel off gains, maybe even cash out this week on my DNA ecosystem plays. ALLO will pump, TWST coming back (DNA largest customer), PACB on a tear, and still loading BNGO, Bionano still a lotto. RXRX dead in the water, jettisoned it last week for cash. Elsewhere, huge catalysts next sixty days on my Bitdeer, but she trades so weird, up and down 2 bucks easily in a matter of hours. My BITF finally gets some love fundamentals. Holding BTM still, think it’s got a third pump before I close the position.
