Question about AMKT 'Crypto ETF'

Mentions

There’s already crypto projects that track the market, and they’re valuation is solely based on that. Look at things like AMKT

Mentions:#AMKT

I genuinely think nearly this entire sub is sleeping on $AMKT. Anyone who's just DCA-ing or buying some split of BTC and ETH should take a look at it because it's easily the safest **long-term** investment you can do in crypto right now. If you're buying shitcoins looking to 10x or 100x or whatever, carry on and you do you. But if you're buying crypto today to cash out in 10 years time, I think the argument for AMKT is a compelling one and each one of these updates just reinforces that opinion.

Just stubbornly keep them all. If you're interested in rebalancing, check out my comparison with **AMKT**, it is rebalanced every quarter I believe....

Mentions:#AMKT

Where can I buy $AMKT!?!?

Mentions:#AMKT

Did you figure out how to pick up some **AMKT** yet? If you're familiar with DeFi it's on Uniswap, otherwise, I believe it's on [Gate.io](https://Gate.io) as well....

Mentions:#AMKT

Slight miscommunication: I was asking about buying AMKT, not a Bitcoin ETF (didn’t know that was a thing). I went to the AMKT website and couldn’t figure out how to actually buy it. For now I’m buying a small amount of each of the top 15, but I don’t have time to manage it. AMKT would be perfect for me. My personal stock portfolio is up over 18% because it’s 80% ETF’s. Maybe 90%. And a few choice individual stocks. It’s too much work managing individual stocks unless that’s what you do for a living.

Mentions:#AMKT#ETF

Thanks, ser! I don't pretend my Experiments are perfect, but hopefully still useful. When I started this in 2018, my intent was to capture the entire crypto market and compare to the entire stock market. No easy way to capture all of crypto in 2018 lol, but I tried my best. The all-crypto market token **AMKT**, which I'm having a friendly competition with, does a bit better at that than my Top Ten, equally weighted approach.

Exactly. And that was my initial aim when I kicked these Experiments off in 2018, trying to capture the entire crypto sector. **AMKT** did this a bit better in 2023, excited to compare this year as well!

It's a great question. I guess most people are still under the delusion that they can beat the market in the long term. I guess it makes sense, with all the hype in crypto and all the crypto twitters bragging about their Ws, especially in a bull. But of course, those same people never share their losses :) **AMKT** is an interesting option for the set it and forget it types that have more of a long term outlook, probably not much so to the hyperactive trader types chasing quick gainz.

It was thanks to one of your posts that I discovered AMKT and I'm shocked more people aren't talking about it on this sub, in fact it seems to get dismissed almost immediately. Yet here we are, showing that there's something to investing in the market as a whole rather than specific coins.

Mentions:#AMKT
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

I've thought about it in the past, but then I eventually default back to "Buy more BTC or specific crypto X" instead. I just felt more comfortable with specific projects than spreading things out. If I were wanting to diversify, I could see investing in a token like AMKT after more research. Unfortunately, it's a moot point because some time in between my last look at them and now they stopped offering direct sales to US customers - thanks SEC! There's always Uniswap, I guess....

Mentions:#BTC#AMKT#SEC
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

Hm, yeah, it would be interesting to see another type of Experiment...but that's a bit like throwing darts blindfolded...my aim was trying to capture the entire crypto market through these Experiments. So I guess the only Experiment within the Experiment is comparing my Top Ten to AMKT, the Total Crypto Market Cap token. It doubled my Top Ten ROI in 2023, we'll see what 2024 holds!

Mentions:#AMKT
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

I'm the same, actually, not a ton of time these days to spend on researching, I have other things going on in my life. AMKT fits nicely with my general approach to traditional markets: set it/forget it.

Mentions:#AMKT
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

I think it's because AMKT is an extremely unattractive acronym.

Mentions:#AMKT
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

I don't trust it. I would need to research it more to trust it. What if there is a security issue with the AMKT token. What if it does not hold its value. Perhaps these are non-risks, but I am not willing to take that risk. BTC and ETH are relatively safe plays. And I can play around with other alts with a small portion of my investments. For example, I can invest in the Cosmos, Solana, and Ethereum ecosystems to farm airdrops. If I just went with AMKT, there would be no airdrop farming.

Mentions:#AMKT#BTC#ETH
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

AMKT is an interesting project unlike 99.9% of crypto which is just degen pump and dumps. I think the reason why it isn't that popular is simply because you can get roughly the same performance by just holding BTC or a mix of BTC and ETH. AMKT is about 67% BTC & ETH. The whole market largely follows BTC. On the other extreme are people looking for 10,000 : 1 shitcoin lotto tickets which obviously won't have exposure in AMKT. Even if one of the elements of AMKT did surge the other 13 coins are a combined 33% so an average of <3%. If one of them doubled relative to BTC it would barely move the needle. Now don't get me wrong I think it is interesting with algorithm coin issuance and redemption and maybe in the future as the market matures it will get more traction.

Like most who have been here a while, I have had various baskets of alts throughout the years with varying results. That’s why I always love checking your index against my picks, and seeing which hold up over time. Very interesting experiment! I was also intrigued this time to hear about AMKT. That sounds right up my alley. I haven’t been doing as much reading about crypto as I once did, I guess. I always save your posts and read them a few times. There is a lot of useful information here and your service is appreciated.

Great observation! If you're interested in a rebalancing model, check out the comparison to **AMKT** section, that's their jam. The result after comparing mine to theirs last year? [AMKT almost doubled my ROI in 2023.](https://toptencryptoindexfund.com/tracking-2023-top-10-cryptocurrencies-month-12/) To answer from my homemade index point of view, [from my FAQs:](https://toptencryptoindexfund.com/about/) Q: What about weighting? Or rebalancing? Or selling and replacing a Top Ten dropout coin? A: Weighting is interesting, but to be beginner friendly, I went for an even 10% allocation when I started six years ago and have kept it up for consistency’s sake. Weighting would also lead to the rebalancing question, which is a bit advanced for this experiment. Plus with only $100 investments, fees would eat me alive. Similar to selling dropouts and buying ascending coins. There’s so much movement in crypto, not worth the fees.

I'm genuinely surprised more folks aren't talking about amkt. I'd never heard of it until it was mentioned in [one of these posts](https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/19bbkvm/i_bought_1k_of_the_top_10_cryptos_on_january_1st/) about the guy buying the top-10 cryptos each year and tracking them. For those unaware, it's sort-of a meta-token, a bit like an ETF - it's minted from the top 25 cryptos and automatically rebalances the weighing by marketshare. I really like amkt as a concept, let it do all the heavy lifting tracking the crypto industry and you can just sit back and forget about it. Track the market as a whole instead of a single coin. If BTC shoots up and leaves ETH in the lurch, it'll automatically rebalance. Likewise if ETH shoots up instead, it'll rebalance then as well. So my steer is that instead of trying to diversify or pick a single crypto to go all-in on, consider AMKT.

r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

Based on this, do you recommend regular users to go with something like AMKT (Alongside Crypto Market Index), or follow it, that rebalances its portfolio on a monthly basis or just go buckwild trying to moonshot? Being in this part of the field, do you recommend any crypto indexes? I know holding the assets is better but means nothing when what you hold loses 80% of its value. Looking forward to your response.

Thanks! The **AMKT** that is part of this Experiment was donated by the Alongside team (at the end of the year, it will be sold and given to charity, as it was last year). r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

Correct! At this point in the Experiments, going all in on BTC would beat my Top Ten approach, except in 2021 (My Top Ten portfolio, ETH, BNB, ADA, and XRP have all outperformed BTC since 1Jan2021). To say "only BTC" is a fine strategy, but picking ETH and BNB 2019-2021, you'd be doing a bit better. I'm personally horrible at picking and can't be researching all day (normal job, family, etc.) so, in the spirit of indexing, trying to capture the gains of the entire market through this homemade approach. Check my results vs. **AMKT**, which is a bit different in that it's weighted (i.e. more BTC and ETH) and reconstituted every quarter.

r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

This guy gets it: humans are notoriously bad at picking stocks in the long term. Capturing the entire market, as this Experiment attempts to do, is a way to ride crypto as a whole (for those who believe it is up only in the long term). Interesting to compare mine to **AMKT** (total crypto market token) as well, which almost doubled my ROI in 2023, at 1/10th of the effort :)

Sorry, fren, I'm pretty bad, like most humans, at stock/crypto picking. The spirit of this Index Fund is to capture the gains of the entire crypto market instead of creating a portfolio of specific coins. If you're looking into a similar Index Fund model, you can try to recreate this Top Ten Experiment or look into something like the **AMKT** total crypto market token.

Thanks for the quick reply. I read about AMKT and this is the exact type of asset I have been looking for. It seems to provide a similar strategy to investing in ETFs instead of buying individual stocks. Long term it's the best thing for 90% of the investors. However, I have one question regarding the rebalancing of AMKT. I read on the website that it's being rebalanced quarterly. Do you think that this is frequent enough, taking in regard the volatility and dynamics of the crypto market? In 3 months a lot could change. Or is there a good reason for the quarterly rebalancing?

Mentions:#AMKT
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

It's an interesting question. In 2018 at least, the Top Ten represented 88% of the entire market, so it wasn't worth it at the time. These days, it's probably a bit less, but I don't have the time or energy to do all 100 :) A simpler/lazy/do nothing solution would be to buy everything through **AMKT** or similar, a token designed to capture the gains of the entire crypto market

Mentions:#AMKT
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

Sorry about all the downvotes, I think your comment was reasonable. I'm certainly not trying to mislead. I'm very transparent about my allocations. Maybe you mean something else? I take your point though: equal distribution is not quite like a typical index fund. If you're interested in such a project, check out my [2023 Top Ten Experiment](https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/18i8o1g/i_bought_1k_of_the_top_10_cryptos_on_january_1st/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3), where I compare my Top Ten to a weighted token called **AMKT** which is designed to capture the gains of the entire market. That's much more of what you describe. And, as it turns out, much more successful, as you predict: **AMKT** is beating my 2023 Top Ten +103% to +39% (as of 1 Dec).

True, and good point. You'll see a lot of "I 100x'd x coin" on twitter, but they never share when they guess wrong :) Another approach, if you believe in crypto overall as a sector going up: capture the gains of the entire market, like I have here with my Top Ten Experiment or what products like **AMKT** are designed to do...

Yeah, this isn't **the** way to invest in crypto, it's **a** way. What's turning out to be a better way: invest in all of crypto. Check out my total market cap vs. Top Ten bonus stats in the comments or compare vs. a total market cap coin like **AMKT**: really no contest. In my non-crypto life, I'm too busy to worry about stock picking (and I'm horrible at it, as all humans are) so I'm a big fan of set in and forget it low cost total market index funds. That's what I tried to recreate here, was really interested how it would do against the S&P. Hopefully the comparison is interesting/educational.

AMKT token is like a crypto ETF it tracks the top 15 cryptos. I haven't invested in it yet but I might start. I just learned about it and still researching. It seems like an easy way to get overall crypto coverage. But then again Bitcoin controls the market for the most part so it's kinda already an "ETF".

Not lately, but you could probably mess around on [dcabtc.com](https://dcabtc.com) to check. Although my suspicion is that BTC would finish behind ETH and BNB. Haven't crunched the numbers though. On of the real eye openers for me as I've been running these Experiments is how the total market has performed. Here: Since Jan 2018: +128% for the total market cap Since Jan 2019: +929% for the total market cap Since Jan 2020: +590% for the total market cap Since Jan 2021: +69% for the total market cap Since Jan 2022: -41% for the total market cap Since Jan 2023: +65% for the total market cap Not bad for doing nothing. That assumes you'd be easily able to capture the entire market, which until recently wasn't really possible. But today there are products like **AMKT** that aim to do exactly that. Interesting times in crypto.

r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

First off, warm welcome to r/CryptoCurrency! And to the Top Ten Experiments. Yeah, completely spot on there. My six concurrent Top Ten Portfolios (I started this in 2018) are admittedly very lazy. I just buy and hold. With only $100 invested in each, gas and trading fees would eat me up. I'm also very much unlike many indexes in that there's no weighting as well: I buy 10% of each coin. If you want to track a more thoughtful crypto index model, you might be interested to check out on my [2023 Top Ten ](https://toptencryptoindexfund.com/tracking-2023-top-10-cryptocurrencies-month-10/) series - I'm having a bit of a friendly competition comparing my Top Ten Portfolio to **AMKT**, a token designed to capture the gains of the entire market which is indeed weighted and indeed rebalanced (I believe every quarter). Spoiler alert - it's crushing my Top Ten approach so far in 2023, +86% to +27%

Excellent question. For better or for worse, and in an effort to keep it as fair as possible, I excluded dividends from the S&P side and the staking, interest, airdrops, etc. from the crypto side. Although, as I mentioned in a comment on my [2023 Top Ten update](https://toptencryptoindexfund.com/tracking-2023-top-10-cryptocurrencies-month-10/) \- I may revisit this approach now that **AMKT** (a token designed to capture the gains of the entire crypto market and to which I'm comparing my 2023 Top Ten Portfolio in 2023) is providing a 5% APR bonus through 2024, essentially creating a dividend. It might be interesting to next year to include dividend calculations for the S&P to allow for a more fair comparison.

Mentions:#AMKT
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

Thank you, ser. Great question. I've considered factoring in dividends, but to be fair, I'd want to add in the staking, interest, airdrops, etc. from holding the crypto as well. In the end, I decided to keep it simple and exclude interest on both sides. That said, with **AMKT** providing 5% APR on their total market token, I might have to revisit this and factor in S&P's 1.5-2% APR to allow for a fair comparison...

I set up these initially to compare my Top Ten Experiment to the complete crypto market cap. You can definitely pull out different coins to compare, but I was after the gains of the entire market. I'm not even sure BTC would outperform ETH or BNB given the rules of my experiments. Maybe I should crunch the numbers, hmmm... But, yes, started off as a way to capture all of the crypto sectory. That's why it's particularly interesting to me to compare my work to tokens like **AMKT** this year...

I don't personally do that, but playing around with this site can do that, and it's fun: [dcabtc.com](https://dcabtc.com) My non scientific observations: BTC would do well, but I'm not sure if it would beat either BNB or ETH according to the Jan 1 rules of the experiment. I definitely have data for ultimate diversification (that total crypto market). This has been one of the major lessons learned from these Experiments, check this out: \- 2018 Top Ten Portfolio: -31% for the Top Ten vs. +128% for the total market cap \- 2019 Top Ten Portfolio: +271% for the Top Ten vs. +929% for the total market cap \- 2020 Top Ten Portfolio: +341% for the Top Ten vs. +590% for the total market cap \- 2021 Top Ten Portfolio: +77% for the Top Ten vs. +69% for the total market cap (an outlier - if history is any indication, I expect the Top Ten gains to fall behind the Total Market Cap over time, like the other Experiments). \- 2022 Top Ten Portfolio: -68% for the Top Ten vs. -41% for the total market cap \- 2023 Top Ten Portfolio: +27% for the Top Ten vs. 65% for the total market cap (If you want to track this in real time, follow these posts: I include a comparison to **AMKT** in the 2023 Top Ten posts, a token designed to capture the gains of the total market. So far it's +86% in 2023 vs. the +27% of the Top Ten)

Awesome, thanks! Interesting question - since I actually bought, I probably won't report out until I actually sell. And since I'm trying to recreate an index fund and slow DCA, I'd feel I cheated if I cherrypicked the good years, but didn't do the same (sell at massive losses and buy back) during the bad years. The stats for total market make my Top Ten Experiments almost not seem worth the effort though lol If you're following the 2023 Top Ten, for example, the **AMKT** total crypto token is crushing my Top Ten, and that what I've seen for all 6 years of my Experiments. Also, my data show it vastly outperforms the Top Ten approach and little doubt it would outperform a NFT fund. Here's the total market returns as of 1 July 2023: 2018 Top Ten Portfolio: -33% for the Top Ten vs. +116% for the total market cap 2019 Top Ten Portfolio: +262% for the Top Ten vs. +874% for the total market cap 2020 Top Ten Portfolio: +358% for the Top Ten vs. +553% for the total market cap 2021 Top Ten Portfolio: +75% for the Top Ten vs. +60% for the total market cap (an outlier - if history is any indication, I expect the Top Ten gains to fall behind the Total Market Cap over time, like the other Experiments). 2022 Top Ten Portfolio: -71% for the Top Ten vs. -44% for the total market cap 2023 Top Ten Portfolio: +27% for the Top Ten vs. 56% for the total market cap

Interesting. I haven't really thought much about the inflation question. Maybe because in my mind, I just want to do better with these Experiments than the S&P, which is also subject to inflation. Interesting question though. For these Experiments, time to learn: none - once I decided on the Top Ten Strategy, I executed it without thought. Where to buy, how to move, where to store, takes a bit of time, but I'm familiar with DeFi, so not too much, especially for a once per year purchase. Much less time, of course, to purchase something like **AMKT**, the Total Crypto Market Token that I'm comparing my Top Ten approach with this year, which is part of the attraction of a one-and-done product which captures the entire market.

AFAIK the total market is the CMC or the Coingecko reference that they use, I think this is the reference for the Chainlink Total Market Oracle. The AMKT price is probably more representative of the actual 'total' market as it does not include stablecoins, more like a snapshot of the 'actual' total market.

Good point, it would definitely look different if weighted. Check out the[2023 Top Ten Experiment](https://toptencryptoindexfund.com/tracking-2023-top-10-cryptocurrencies-month-6/), where I compare my equally weighted portfolio, with the weighted **AMKT** total crypto market token. As for why I didn't weight, here's the logic from my [FAQs](https://toptencryptoindexfund.com/about/): Q: What about weighting? A: Weighting is interesting, but to be beginner friendly, I went for an even 10% allocation when I started and have kept it up for consistency’s sake. Weighting would also lead to the rebalancing question, which is a bit advanced for this experiment...

I'd say, at this point in the Experiments at least, that *Top Ten* diversification isn't as great as many praise it to be. *Total Crypto Market diversification* is another story. I recently crunched the following numbers for your reading pleasure, all data current as of 1 July 2023: 2018 Top Ten Portfolio: -33% for the Top Ten vs. +60% for the total market cap (*an outlier - if history is any indication, I expect the Top Ten gains to fall behind the Total Market Cap over time, like the other Experiments*). 2022 Top Ten Portfolio: -71% for the Top Ten vs. -44% for the total market cap 2023 Top Ten Portfolio: +27% for the Top Ten vs. 56% for the total market cap If I would have found a way to capture the entire crypto market starting in 2018, I would be doing much, much better than my Top Ten approach. You can see this in real time with my [monthly Top Ten updates for 2023](https://toptencryptoindexfund.com/tracking-2023-top-10-cryptocurrencies-month-6/) where I compare my Top Ten with **AMKT,** a total crypto market cap token, which is vastly out performing my 2023 Top Ten.

There wasn't when I started in 2018, but there are options now. Check out my [latest 2023 Top Ten update](https://toptencryptoindexfund.com/tracking-2023-top-10-cryptocurrencies-month-6/) for a comparison between my Top 10 approach and **AMKT**, a total crypto market token I'm also tracking this year. tl;dr, **AMKT** is doing quite well at this point in the Experiment, beating my Top Ten +67% to +27% so far in 2023.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment, and spot on with your insights. My top ten definitely missed out on BCH gains this month, but as you note, it's a small part of **AMKT.** Still, my 2023 Portfolio completely missed those gains this month. That's a big difference, as you allude to, between my homemade Top Ten and **AMKT** is that I have ten 10% allocations, while **AMKT** is weighted. Another is that my index includes a stablecoin, which is contributing to it falling behind...although likely to hold it up a bit should we tank tomorrow! :) And agreed! I expect XRP to start to be more easily included in indexes thanks to the good news this month!

So excited to read these updates from time to Time. I feel like it make sense why the top ten would not be performing as well as the AMKT token because even though you have the coins that lead the market aka Bitcoin and ethereum you also miss out on the gains of coins that enter the top ten that are covered by AMKT. But I’m wondering what is the impact the other coins in the index that are the 10%. Like Bitcoin and ethereum are a large chunk of the index, the other assets included in the 25 must be doing a lot of heavy lifting on returns right? Like SOL is just 1.03% of the index (give or take depending on the monthly rebalance) and the past 60 days was huge for SOL same thing for BCH and that’s only 0.37% of the index. Sad to see XRP not included on the index but maybe because assets are held by Coinbase custody is the reason XRP is not listed. Maybe that’ll change in the future.

Exactly, and that was my main motivation in this Top Ten Experiment: I believe in the future of the crypto space in general, but am a horrible stock/crypto picker. When I started in 2018, the Experiment was my attempt to capture the entire market cap - the Top Ten in 2018 captured about 80-85% of crypto. **AMKT** focuses on the Top 25, which represents about 97% if I remember correctly, so they do a bit better than my Top Ten approach.

This has been one of the most eye opening aspects of these Experiments for me, personally. Products like you describe are starting to take shape in the cryptospace: Check out the **AMKT** vs. Top Ten section of the post (**AMKT** is a token which represents the Top 25 crypto assets, backed by those assets. It's doing quite well this year against my Top 10 Experiment)

We're in the same boat. Getting much too busy with life to worry about all this stuff on a daily basis. I'm a set it and forget it guy as well, so attracted to this small Top Ten portfolio or something like **AMKT** (the total crypto market cap token, see my 2023 Top Ten post for the comparison) for ease with maximum diversification.

Good question - I'm not sure, I haven't run those specific numbers. I do know that BNB has been the surprise (at least for me) dark horse winner for the '20, '21, and '22 Top Ten portfolios, well outperforming BTC and ETH. One of the lessons learned through the Experiment is that my Top Ten Portfolio (and likely most portfolios) can't keep up with the entire market. Last time I crunched the numbers (May 1st), it's not even close: * 2018 Top Ten Portfolio: -36% for the Top Ten vs. +104% for the total market cap * 2019 Top Ten Portfolio: +227% for the Top Ten vs. +822% for the total market cap * 2020 Top Ten Portfolio: +399% for the Top Ten vs. +518% for the total market cap * 2021 Top Ten Portfolio: +95% for the Top Ten vs. +51% for the total market cap (an outlier - if history is any indication, I expect the Top Ten gains to fall behind the Total Market Cap over time, like the other Experiments). * 2022 Top Ten Portfolio: -69% for the Top Ten vs. -47% for the total market cap \* 2023 Top Ten Portfolio: +36% for the Top Ten vs. 47% for the total market cap Bottom line: my little Experiment is getting crushed by the overall market. Capturing the entire market with **AMKT** or similar had it existed at the time (see the 2023 Top Ten posts for comparison to my Top Ten) would have yielded much better results with much less analysis/effort/luck.

Ser, it's an experiment - draw lessons where you want/can. It's not \*thee\* strategy, it's \*a\* strategy. See the comparison to S&P section on this or any of the other posts. You asked about the 2018 portfolio vs. S&P, [here it is](https://toptencryptoindexfund.com/tracking-2018-top-10-cryptocurrencies-month-61/), not pretty. A little dated now, but next month I'll release the latest for the 2018 group. But all years combined, no contest between my Top Ten and the S&P, even with sucky years (top ten +103% vs S&P +28%). As for my Top Ten vs. the entire market (or something like AMKT) there's really no comparison when you look at the data. Here are some figures as of last month, check out the numbers, hopefully it helps you form your strategy: As of 1 May 2023: 2018 Top Ten Portfolio: -36% for the Top Ten vs. +104% for the total market cap 2019 Top Ten Portfolio: +227% for the Top Ten vs. +822% for the total market cap 2020 Top Ten Portfolio: +399% for the Top Ten vs. +518% for the total market cap 2021 Top Ten Portfolio: +95% for the Top Ten vs. +51% for the total market cap (an outlier - if history is any indication, I expect the Top Ten gains to fall behind the Total Market Cap over time, like the other Experiments). 2022 Top Ten Portfolio: -69% for the Top Ten vs. -47% for the total market cap 2023 Top Ten Portfolio: +36% for the Top Ten vs. 47% for the total market cap

So you’re not trying to shill this $AMKT crypto index token? You picked 6 entry points over the span of 6 years. Your spreadsheet says that holding this garbage index from 2018 you’ll be down by 37%. Great strategy, how does it compare to the SP500? Then you try to pitch me the idea that for the index to go up over time I need to keep buying this thing every year on Jan 1st. God forbid if my entry was in 2021, I would be holding a bunch of vaporwave like Doge or BCH down to 0. I just don’t see how these numbers look any good or what conclusion you’re trying to draw here. The process is similar to a monkey trying to pick a basket of internet coins at random intervals, this can’t be serious.

Exactly this: I simply don't have time to crypto 24/7. My goal here was to replicate how I invest in the traditional market, trying to capture the entire market. A little trickier in crypto and takes a bit more effort, but these days there are one-click options as well, like the total market **AMKT** token which I'm comparing to the [2023 Top Ten Portfolio](https://toptencryptoindexfund.com/tracking-2023-top-10-cryptocurrencies-month-4/) this year....

No stupid questions in crypto! Sure, you could track though CG or coinmarketcap without actually buying/no skin in the game. I'd suggest comparing your portfolio with the overall market by also tracking **AMKT**, Alongside's Total Crypto Market Cap token, just to see how you'd do against all of crypto. And yes, no fakies. I would have lost interest a long time ago. lol I'm only still here because I have actually $ in all this. Yep, I'm happy with my results! Although I would have done much better capturing the entire market with **AMKT** or something similar... I'm a set it and forget it type of investor, way too busy to day trade (and I'm bad at it!). I invest in crypto like I invest in traditional markets: maximum diversification and belief that the overall market will go up over time.

Yep, and in terms of investing, one of my major take aways has been most portfolios, even well diversified portfolios, can't really stack up something like **AMKT** \- the entire crypto market does better than than most people's best attempts.

Thanks, ser! Appreciate the encouragement, I work hard to put these together. Hm, let me see if I can help you with that with some of the data from 5.5 years of running these Experiments. Okay, got it. Actually an **AMKT**\-type product has murdered my Top Ten lol. Kind of painful to post, but here are the stats, as of 1 May, 2023: * **2018 Top Ten Portfolio:** \-36% for the Top Ten vs. +104% for the total market cap * **2019 Top Ten Portfolio:** \+227% for the Top Ten vs. +822% for the total market cap * **2020 Top Ten Portfolio:** \+399% for the Top Ten vs. +518% for the total market cap * **2021 Top Ten Portfolio:** \+95% for the Top Ten vs. +51% for the total market cap (*an outlier - if history is any indication, I expect the Top Ten gains to fall behind the Total Market Cap over time, like the other Experiments*). * **2022 Top Ten Portfolio:** \-69% for the Top Ten vs. -47% for the total market cap So, yeah, better of with capture the entire market with **AMKT** or similar than my Top Ten approach, by far.

This is significantly more in-depth than I was expecting. Good work OP. I’m not totally surprised AMKT is outperforming the top ten when the market has generally been trending up. I suspect it’ll also drop a lot more than the top 10 when crypto isn’t doing so well.

Excellent question!!! During the first year, I thought about it, but most coins in my portfolio were so far down it wasn't worth it, so I just hold and buy the 'new' Top Ten at the beginning of every year. So I guess I'm doing a form of rebalancing when you look at all my Experiments together, but definitely nowhere near a pure rebalance. You might want to check out [AMKT](https://alongside.xyz/), the token I'm comparing my[2023 Top Ten Experiment](https://toptencryptoindexfund.com/tracking-2023-top-10-cryptocurrencies-month-3/) with. It tracks the top 25 and rebalances ever quarter I believe.
