I think it’s part of the solution, but not the whole. Carbon credits need to be well documented and verified. Whether that is though technological innovation or natural sequestration, capturing greenhouse gasses and such is vital for a more sustainable planet. It will also be big business. In terms of why SPE trading their carbon credits on the blockchain is beneficial. It should reduce the practice of double counting credits and also makes it easier for companies to track and be transparent with their offsetting. The current system is notoriously shady. Of course, if people believe verifying bodies aren't issuing legit credits, that's another can of worms. SPE can only produce the highest quality carbon credits they can within the guidelines given to them.

Algorand are doing a great job leading the way offsetting their environmental impact. Hopefully everyone in crypto will follow suit. $SPE is a low mcap - It launched last year and since then it has been working on its use case - planting millions of trees in different countries to create Co2 offsets and digitize carbon credits (NFTs) - this way corporations looking to offset their co2 emissions will have a cryptocurrency as an option.

From a use-case standpoint, projects that aim to move into the environmental arena have a solid chance IMO. I personally DCA slowly into a low MC project called SPE (save planet earth) which are currently opening nurseries and plantations throughout Sri Lanka, India, The Maldives and Pakistan with a (current) target of 1.1 billion trees. The carbon sequestered by the trees to be calculated and carbon credit NFT's minted for offsetting (this has already started and multiple partners have been offset). Like the idea or not, the offset industry is beginning to boom as governments increasingly mandate offsetting. Carbon is sequestered almost immediately after trees are planted with an obvious and expected upward and exponential curve over time; SPE are well positioned with multiple partners and are really making a name for themselves out there. Unlike 95% of the projects mentioned in this topic, SPE has an actual real world use case, which is vital in bearish periods. Unfortunately SPE were one of the tokens caught up in the BitMart hack. The devs had to lock the v2 tokens and airdrop v3 tokens to holders, to stop the hacker dumping the 20m tokens. Pretty annoying considering we had just completed a migration from v1 to v2. But the devs did as well as they could in such a situation, IMO. BitMart are scum and haven't been of any help.

The carbon credits are authenticated by the UN through several regulatory bodies. Each NFT can be traced back to the source of the CC. There's info of the accreditation etc within the NFT. Yes that's correct. But there are more crypto projects that specifically have carbon sequestration as it's goal. The article for example talks about SPE, which actually has carbon credit NFTs minted on Phantasma, which are officially registered with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Companies or individuals can use these to offset their carbon emissions. And they are building a carbon credit exchange as well. That's how awesome crypto has become now. $spe is one of my largest holdings amigo. If any blockchain or business wants to be green, SPE is the way to go. And it’s a brilliant solution to a major climate problem.

Not going to debate about the pros and cons of ADA in general and this is a positive move which I congratulate but SavePlanetEarth $SPE is making much, much larger moves in this respect. They're building their own green blockchain, have already made Phantasma carbon neutral for 2021, have a whole CC exchange coming soon with SPEPad launches of more green projects coming up shortly. 1.1 billion trees already contracted in several countries. Just look at what the founder is doing on a weekly basis. It's insane how huge the scope of this project is. They have connections with world leaders, are experts in their fields and even have a Nobel peace prize winner on the team. I would urge anyone who hasn't to check them out.

I hear you. Unfortunately industry does not respond well to the well worn ‘we need to consume less’ mantra, industry ONLY responds to bottom line. Fact. There is an excessive amount of carbon in our atmosphere. Carbon needs to be removed from the atmosphere now. Tree planting is THE most efficient mechanism for sequestering carbon (not to mention the incredible biodiversity impact). Planting billion / trillions of trees is so massively beneficial to this planet that it cannot effectively be described. So already it’s a win, right? Fact. There are currently zero effective measures in place to reduce those emissions. Simply because carbon management outside of blockchain is riddled with air leaks, ways for industry to manipulate the ‘books’. Mandating emission offsetting hits industry where it hurts; bankroll. When industry can improve on a scenario to protect profit, it will. The historical shithouse method of recording carbon offsetting has allowed business to squirm out of the grip and find innovative ways to circumvent paying for their pollutant. Blockchain doesn’t lie and blockchain is immutable, no fancy bookkeeping, no sneaky backhanders; you offset or you didn’t. Carbon Credit NFT’s. SPE are moving forward strongly into this arena.

I am personally very interested in SPE (for the reasons stated in my comment) and SFC (solar full cycle) which is a project designed to solve the problem of solar panel recycling, which is a yet to be understood climate disaster worldwide. There are others pushing through but the two mentioned really grabbed my interest.
