Wow I don’t know I will get a different tax document for ARLP or XFIR. So far I am only holding some options on ARLP since the implied volatility is low. I don’t want to report tax to more states. Natural gas seems to be a more complicated topic, but I bet some on EQT, EXE and CNX calls. Comparatively, coal industry is much smaller and I feel it can have an outsized gain. Right now I am 1/3 in KWEB/BABA, 1/3 in energy, and 1/3 in all kinds of speculatively Trump mining stocks. Lol

Agreed. I've tried to play the NG trade but it's hard for me to keep up with all the news and geopolitical cause/effect. I owned APD, LNG, CNX, KGS, etc in the past. Looking to get into a portion of those again in the future. Looks like NFE took a big hit today though. The swing trade bottom may be back in play soon

r/stocksSee Comment

Sucks for the bankrupt natural gas bull. I thought LNG hopefully has a pretty good run coming? I'd been holding KGS, APD, CNX, LNG..but sold out recently. Still eyeing LPG but not sure when that's bottoming out. Too much trade instability now.

GOP religious doctrine is that "tax cuts always good". They got us into this mess. They'll only deepen it. The long term goal has always been hyperinflation that erases most of the debt. For investors, we know how to respond. Buy for tangible book value. In particular tangible book value in inventory, property, plants and equipment, not in cash. There aren't many companies trading at a discount to their tangible non-cash value now. There will be. Otherwise, there are industries that will do well regardless, like the relatively limited natural gas oriented equity market (EXE, GPOR, CNX, RRC, EQT, AR, CTRA).

This is pretty old news, OP Rise of AI, Data Centers, and the need to power them has been fueling a runup on natural gas focused E&Ps (CHK, AR, EQT, CNX) and has been for at least the last 12 months. Again, think that you're noticing something that the market has been well aware of for some time now.

On the last CNX call their CEO said he basically wasn't expecting anything to materialise in terms of LNG export (basically ever), was the second to last question. They are quite regional though so could be a local thing.

Hmmm, seems like two different things. CNX's description sounds like a consolidation of all flowback subfunctions into one automated system (possibly with A.I. assistance?), plus harnessing "Geobaric Energy" i.e. the natural pressure rock formations exert against each other in the crust.

> So you know how much of the pullbacks are choice vs how many are declining wells? I remember CNX mentioning reducing production earlier this year when prices cratered. Natural gas are cyclical and [prices always crater around spring](https://www.ice.com/publicdocs/cmsdata/ice/images/AEA_ICE_Natgas_storage.jpg), although this year's decline was a bit extreme. As for pullback I know Anthony Chovanec, vice-president of EPD, said producers in the Permian didn't halt in terms of capturing oil-related natural gas. Going through the EIA data for each major U.S. formation, it seems that both total production and production per rig was unchanged during February-April. Of course, the data could be lagging and updated in the near future. > Also, I thought I read the Permian was seeing increasing natural gas production. Not that you can use the same infrastructure, but there is a lot of supply. Active oil wells produce a ton of natural gas as a byproduct of drilling. The drillers used to just flare or vent it as it cost them money to inject gas into pipelines. Now that LNG export makes it economical to collect, the midstream companies are [either adding or expanding pipeline capacity to transport those volumes](https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=56800) to storage for liquification. > Canada seems to also be increasing production. CNQ has seen gas production rise and Michael Rose (well regarded Canadian oil entrepreneur) founded tourmaline just to extract Canadian gas. I hope so! Apparently Canada is [investing a ton](https://natural-resources.canada.ca/energy/energy-sources-distribution/natural-gas/canadian-liquified-natural-gas-projects/5683) into LNG projects. > I guess where I'm going.... isn't there enough supply coming online to offset declines in Appalachia? My main concern is the export projection come on top of U.S. domestic consumption. We could theoretically meet those expectations if domestic remained static, but the latter is expected to explode - nat gas is the "transition medium" to phase out coal and oil. Until nuclear gains momentum, it's supposed to be the primary energy source for future base load generation. When I look at the EIA's statistics over time, I'm not seeing the prerequisite YoY increases across all formations required to satisfy both areas. Either the U.S. can cut overly optimistic export volumes and satisfy increased local demand or vice versa. The Permian alone cannot carry this dilemma on its shoulders Atlas-style. If Permian production stalls for any reason in the next half-decade, there will be a big mismatch.

A little morning [read](https://open.substack.com/pub/mosaicassetco/p/the-market-mosaic-4724?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=23ti9i) on commodities in the market. For the record, this author is pretty bullish on commodities. However, the thesis is one that I've heard others espousing. One theme I've heard from a lot of commodity bulls is that are current market setup mimicks the early 2000s. Tech is very expensive, commodities are relatively cheap. There's also setting up to be huge demand from developing economies (China in the early 2000s, India/Indonesia today). Personally I have exposure to copper, met coal, oil, and natural gas. I'm actually in the process of swapping out oil names, so I sold FANG this rally and plan to buy TPL or CNQ on a pullback just because I like their longer term low/no capex. Also been adding to CNX/HCC given the chance.

Trying to work out some rough math, but assuming CNX being 80% hedged, decreasing production by 5%, and assuming they sell the remaining output for the current spot price of $1.70/BTU.... They'll still produce about $270 million in FCF. On a $3.43 billion market cap, that puts them around 12x 2024 FCF right now. This is based on guidance from their last earnings call. They generally return about 80% of FCF to shareholders through buy backs, so that's about $216 million, or about 6% of their market cap being bought back. Not bad for the worst natural gas market in years. Also, some interesting notes. There are 5 LNG export terminals under construction in the US and at least 1 in Canada. Additionally, the increasing power production from natural gas plants in the US due to the general trends in consumption, add the equivalent of one LNG terminal each year. I haven't worked out the numbers on that yet, but it's safe to say gas demand will increase a lot in the US. I really like the setup for CNX.

I agree. I have been diving back into energy and commodities too. Still very cheap, and much more resilient companies than 10 years ago. CNX, CNQ.....oil and gas are minting money right now. Starting to dip my toe in the water of CNX. I think long term demand of natural gas will be strong enough to bring prices back up. I also think CNX has a low cost production advantage, as well as sterling management. [Here's](https://www.reddit.com/r/ValueInvesting/comments/vkp6wz/investment_research_cnx_cnx_resources_a/) a write up from a year ago and a great [podcast](https://www.joincolossus.com/episodes/2539090/wilson-cnx-resources-lighting-up-its-industry) overview of the business. Their executive chairman is William Thorndike, aither of the Warren Buffett favorite book "the outsiders". Really strong management culture there which is resulting in great cash flows and large stock buybacks.

Natural gas has been absolutely wrecked lately getting down to the $1.65/btu level. That's the same level as it saw in 2012, 2016, and the 2020 covid selloff. Not inflation adjusted. CNX announced production cuts. I can't imagine natural gas goes much lower as many producers are losing money at these prices. I am considering buying CNX as they have such low cost production they are still profitable. Still building a thesis, but I think there might be opportunity here.

Mentions:#CNX
r/stocksSee Comment

I've been reading up on CNX, a natural gas producer based in the US (not CNQ, which I also like but different company). CNX announced this: "CNX Resources now expects its 2024 annual production volumes in the range of 540-560 billion cubic feet equivalent (Bcfe), down from the previous expectation of 570-590 Bcfe. The company has decided to delay completion activities on three upcoming Marcellus Shale pads consisting of 11 wells, which will account from the drop in production volumes." So there's starting to be a supply reaction to low gas prices. CNX is also impressive because their break even cost is around $1.10/BTU, so even at today's record low prices, the company is profitable. They've used those profits largely to buyback stock, decreasing the share count around 10% just this year. [Here's](https://www.joincolossus.com/episodes/2539090/wilson-cnx-resources-lighting-up-its-industry) a great rundown on the business. If you think natural gas demand will be high (which is the consensus) and prices are too low, this one is interesting.

Hello, can anyone please help me replicate the screening criteria used by an article from a banned site? Each year, the robot (theoretically) buys the 10 cheapest stocks among all U.S. stocks with a market value of $500 million or more, positive earnings, and debt less than equity. My measure of cheapness is the stock’s price/earnings (P/E) ratio — stock price divided by the past four quarters’ earnings. These filters selected these stocks: SWN, GPOR, CNX, SPB, SPHR, PBF, CHK, SBOW, SD, BTU. Market Cap is an obvious filter, and "debt less than equity" would be Debt/Equity Under 1. What filter would correlate with "positive earnings"? Thanks.

Hi everyone, looking for some guidance if possible. My question is around investing in ETF's such as the S&P 500 (CSP1) and Nasdaq (CNX1) as a UK resident. Most big bank forecasts suggest GBP to weaken this year, meaning an unhedged portfolio into something like the above would benefit me temporarily should it be true. However with a much longer horizon of 10-20 years plus, would a hedged ETF be better if the GBP is likely to rise again in the future. I understand it's difficult to answer, but is my understanding right that should the GBP strengthen against the USD, then having a hedged portfolio would benefit me rather than being unhedged? I'll be purchasing some single US stocks too which I will accept the FX risks in hopes performance outweighs this far more than I need to worry about, so it's more on the ETF side for S&P 500 and nasdaq ETF's. What do you guys do when it comes to investing in US markets? Thanks, D

CNX. They used to be part of Console energy until Console split into a coal company and CNX the natural gas company. CNX doesn't do coal anymore. But as part of their heritage they do milk coal mines for natural gas. Really good at it. More coal mining kicks up more mine emissions for CNX to go get. So you can actually get coal exposure off a natural gas play here. Plus they hedge everything. Today's high prices are leaving a stronger long term effect for CNX, although they are making less than their unhedged peers today.

CNX is an okay buy but it is a gas and oil stock so its ceiling is very limited in my opinion. VSTO is a buy since its upcoming earnings report shows growthX according to yahoo finance. However, some hedge funds have begun selling this stock so beware of a potential long squeeze.

So I saw yolo 1800 into CNX, sell low, buy Nvidia high diamond hand it for 17 years= retire? Is that correct?

Also a warning to young investors: if you invested $1800 into 200 shares of CNX at $9 in 2003, you would only have 200 shares of CNX and 25 shares of CEIX after the 2017 spinoff, giving you: 200 x 14.53 = $2,906 Plus 25 x 18.66 = $466.50 Total value after 18 years = $3,372.50. Almost doubling your money sounds great, but if you invested $1,800 into SPY in 2003, you'd have around $10,000. So HODLing a crap stock forever doesn't always pan out. Not even close.

I’m watching $CNX stock. Why did it’s price drop 49% after the close? From what I can tell it’s a NOII thing but I’m not versed enough to know what exactly that is or if my stock bought at $10.80 is truly down now after being up for the past few months.

Latest to earliest. The tech for lithium extraction from clay was released and third party tested last year ?7/2020 or so. If you search my history I think I linked that one on one of my first DD on the company. The above links have the prelim results of extraction. One of those earlier reports stated excellent results for cadmium batteries and if confirmed will start them recycling "normal" batteries until EV battery recycling will be needed. He called it a potential "disruptor" in battery recycling. Full results and final feasibility studies are due out end of this month/ beg. of July. A final go or no go will be decided in Sept. They already have a site in Quebec (?Bae Cuomo or something like that) to retrofit and stated they don't need much in the way of new machinery to do their process. Their most recent bimonthly/ monthly update report stated they are trying a new concentration technique PRIOR to its extraction tech for lithium in clay which found "better then expected results". Those are being confirmed as well. That last report as well stated they are expecting a whole bunch of batteries (delivered by now) from an aggregator to test their tech on every type of battery out there. Sure those are the final dry run they want to do before releasing their results in beg. of July. Those regular reports every month or 2 weeks I usually find on their twitter page as they are released. A NICE surprise is Dumas recently did a podcast just a day or 2 ago where he talked about the new timelines. In that interview he mentioned the gold project in Iceland looks to have "very high grade gold deposits" and will likely attract a major gold player to JV next year. No official release of that so still not confirmed yet. I would recommend heading

A month or two ago I would have said you’d be really safe riding with CAPL - but it’s gone up quite a bit already. I think there are still some really solid values that pay nice dividends in energy right now. Keep an eye on that sector - SLB seems undervalued in the mid-term, for example. EPD is widely considered to be one of the best managed companies around, and they pay a consistent dividend to boot. CNX is a domestic natural gas producer to monitor, too. Earnings were great, and they have room to grow. I think TSM at 117 is an absolute steal given your profile. That is a very fair price for them, and analysts agree it’s likely an undervalued stock. Lockheed at 380 is still a good deal, too. They pay a dividend and have a proven track record with room to grow on top of their current valuation. CAG (Conagra Foods) pays a divvy and could grow 10% without much of a push, and have weathered COVID gracefully. Recently upgraded by Morningstar and not without reason. One of the last undervalued food sector stocks left, IMO. If you want a true big-brain play, buy a uranium ETF - URNM - on the next 3/4 day drop. Buy some shares in Energy Fuels (UUUU) too. In two years, I think you will be very happy. Short-term could be choppy. I think ADDYY is overvalued at price BUT they are making huge gains on Nike and competitors in terms of brand perception and product. Adidas is cooler now than they have been in years, and they have a model to withstand future COVID shocks. One to look into.

The fact they are 100% on all materials in their cathode. PR below. No one else is that high. I know AMY is saying they are 100%, but their PR says 99.7% on lithium dated just 12/2020. Their tech is already best in class for lithium extraction from clay. Last PR about that in ?7/2020 which was 3rd party tested was 99.97%. It is the same patented leaching technique.
