It's a rough stock, Korean firms historically grow very quickly then manage their companies in a way that is very non-investor friendly manner. There are also things like the the "chebol wall" where the older/bigger families have been seen as disruptors moving into the space with the govt's blessing. The population is also an issue due to userbase slowing/shrinking over time. If you're investing in it as a growth company this is a huge factor since market saturation and market growth YoY are big factors. In these type of growth-focused companies you need YOY consumer growth. People say "the amazon of" but it's not really a fit, Amazon has AWS which greatly adds to their valuation. CPNG doesn't have that, so to keep it on par or even bring in FPE doesn't really pan 1:1. They're also in an area competing directly with SE, and other "Amazon of XYZ asian country". So they will have a hard time growing outside of South Korea.
The growth is limited to the users. In this case, South Korea. For CPNG mostly caters to SK. You should search average users to the total population and compare that to AMZN. And also, you should see check up on the current trend of the KOSPI (Korean Index) because last time I checked, their economy isn’t looking too great.

2021 ended up on a high, had to take boat load of cash out for taxes thanks to wins on $NVAX. Sold the bottom in my position after two bad earnings by $AMZN which dragged my $CPNG position down to yearly low. Had a nice mid year recovery. Played around with a few yolos like $TQQQ. Can lightning strike twice? $NVAX had hit new 52-week low and I saw a short term oppourtunity that might've went a little too long. My YTD was +36% by September. Then the crash came for everyone. And while the market got renewed life in November CPI in 2023, this one didn't. I cut my losses and moved. 2024 wow, just wow! +75% YTD. Made up all my losses from 2023! I am keeping this position a secret so WSB doesn't ruin the ticker! No AI, no silicon, no NVDA, no WSB meme stock! This one isn't even in the history books! Other notables. HSA trading account +92% YTD T-ira account (funded for 2023 & 2024) +126% YTD, +273% for life of this account! My 401k, +54.5% YTD (this one is a diester, loss most of my money in 2022 in a self direct) locked in about 200k in loses from the high of 2022 to end of 2023. Vanguard (thought this would be boring, but recently had a +20% day yolo), +53% YTD My smaller fun account +79.5% YTD TLDR; A market crash/correction is coming!!!

The big problem with ARM is the fact that SoftBank is holding onto 90% of the shares and could take profit whenever they like. With only 10% of the shares in float, it seems like a risky venture to me. Softbank has gutted the share price of CPNG with their sales and lost an insane amount of capital in the failure WeWork. ARM has had an impressive past couple months, but I’ll gamble elsewhere or hold only very short term.

Yea, that part does suck especially since for MELI and SE that is the fastest growing segment. Would far prefer to own that over streaming or food delivery which are still in CPNG

Somewhat related is the story of Bill Ackman's $10MM donation of CPNG stock to Harvard, where he offered to cover the difference between $10MM and the value they sold it at when the company went public, if he got to determine the use for any funds they got from it if it went above $15MM. The stock value was worth $85MM when it IPO'd but Harvard had already sold it for $10MM in a private deal, despite Ackman being willing to cover the difference. Quite an interesting read, but hard to find any articles offhand without a paywall.

During the market peaks in 2021-22 I created a portfolio of stocks, around $5000. They were mostly small cap or highly publicized/recommended like LMND, NVTA, CPNG, CHWY, OPEN, etc. through different stock recommendation services. I did not do my own DD like I should have and simply got caught up in the bull market frenzy like many. After purchasing at various points over the span of a year and a half, I had substantial work and family demands and honestly didn't login to or look at any stock performance until Q1 2023. As you can imagine most of these took an absolute pounding and are down 65-90% and haven't moved much in 8 months. So currently of the original $5000 there is like $1500 left. I've been trying to read up on different thoughts regarding stock losses. I've seen setting loss triggers (obviously missed that boat), selling at a big loss and trying to offset via taxes/write-offs (taking 60-90% realized losses), and others that just recommend letting it ride for 10 years as its already down so much. What are some reputable resources to read or methods this community would use to evaluate this situation and decide the most advantageous route forward?

Yeah, we definitely have a US bias on here. Also, I think a lot of people here got burned by the high flyer growth names in 2022. It really turned a lot.of people off to them. I remember MELI, SE, and even CPNG getting a lot of attention on 2021. Sadly, I'd love to have more ex-US perspective because there's probably a lot of good buys out there. I have KOF, OMAB, and PAC on my watchlist. That's about it.

The best way to do it is get an $EFA or a $EEM. There is always going to be risks for international stocks vs US stocks. Europe and Japan tend to be much slower growth than the US these days. Emerging markets like China, Latin America, and others can have more runway. However, they can have issues with corruption and nationalisation. I learned my lesson with $BABA and $SQM. I am up 50% in two months on $PAGS though. $NU and $CPNG are others I like for growth. But do DD and I would stick with ETFs if you want widespread diversification.

Imagine being reported for being 1k short from a degenerate play on WSB Man is risking 24k dollars. RemindMe! 1 Month ... out after $CPNG earnings if $BABA has a chance in the Asia market. I've read a report and DDs from a year ago on r/WallStreetBets and honestly I have more faith in OP bet on BABA than CPNG. Why? The risk I see for CPNG is simply put they have no cash. None. Nada. Nothing. Check the reports. I see 15 million dollars. I also see they are being destroyed harder than my wife with her boyfriend. I'm talking about accusations and mistreatment of workers in the workforce. Though not all is bad. CPNG is playing the "Amazon of South Korea" which could be good thing for investors if they believe the board is like the America Amazon is "customer oriented." CPNG could be focusing on their earnings reports to be superb. Thereby making *cha-ching* in share price valuation. Considering $CPNG does have 80% institutional shares held at a market cap of 27bn. Best believe they are lobbying hard to retain those institutions. But who knows, I'm just a degenerate commenting on my watchlist and this shouldn't be investing advice for you. It's amazing how quickly the market can flip from euphoric buying to relentless selling... We broke the uptrend yesterday so I do see a lot of downside from here medium term. But short-term I would guess the bias is up as a mean reversion from all that selling. Tech names like GOOG and MSFT are right on their rising 20ma supports, which looks a bit bullish as well. But there aren't any obvious trade signals either way right now. I've got SPY support at 392, QQQ support is lower at 277 if we continue to drill. I would like to see that 392 support hold up today and get a small rebound to reload some of the shorts I've dumped. As the 10ma curls around into a downturn on SPY, that will be an entry target to load more puts. That worked out very well on the last bear reversal. It will take a few days though, maybe by Friday if we avoid too much chop. Most of the bullish setups got wrecked yesterday. Semis look awful now. I still like support entries on ENPH and CPNG though. Still holding my longs that have held up above breakeven: BAND, DOCS, and AZTA. Mostly I don't see much to do today and want to avoid overtrading. Good luck everyone.
If we dip again today I'm expecting good support around 397. I may even want to pick up some short dated calls there to hedge my puts. Still got my eye on the semiconductor sector. Some great setups there. UMC is the cleanest, AMD second, but I'll probably just play SOXL shares. A lot of stocks got hit hard yesterday, so I'm looking for some dips to buy near support. I like CPNG here, with a tight stop at 17.75. MMAT also looks interesting if it can hold rising 20ma today. CPNG Coupang, South Korea e commerce company. Pro: Strong economic moat, basically a monopoly in S Korea. Con: stuck in A Korea lmao I still invest in it as I believe it can break out into other Asian markets but it's kind of an uphill battle.
