I think the market must be pricing in a huge debt ceiling / budget fight in 2027/28. It’s like 1. Dems win at least the House in the 2026 midterms, possibly the senate too, as Trump is v unpopular 2. Split control of govt 3. Dems figure there is a looming budget crisis anyway, and their best shot is to face the music now instead of after 2028 when they might hold the white house and get blamed for it 4. Refuse to pass budget or raise debt ceiling without a bunch of unpopular deficit reduction 5. Dems hope voters blame the GOP and hand them the White House in 2028 Otherwise I have no idea why yields are so low. When Obama became POTUS he high estimated net worth was 4.3 million and when he left office 12.2 million with a large portion of that money coming from advanced royalties from his two books. It's already legal. It was going to define when something is a security or a commodity. The main issue is that neither fits the underlying asset, so they were going to treat the character of the transaction as separate from the character of the token. That's actually inarguably better, and I fucking hate the GOP. The parts of this that were bad were basically carved out to prevent Trump from getting prosecuted. The underlying idea is conceptually good. The easiest way to see this is to look at XRP and the case Gensler brought against it. He was trying to argue that XRP itself is a security, which he lost handily on because someone buying a token is not buying into Ripple, and no ordinary person would think so. However, the XRP that Ripple initially sold, looked an awful lot like a security, and they settled on that claim. This would solve that tension immediately. If you structure a transaction as a security, then it doesn't matter what the character of the token is. If you just sell a token on an exchange, then it's classed as a commodity, which it should be. It does clarify things significantly, but prior to this, you could only go off the SEC's enforcement policy, and they treated some coins as commodities, while some were treated as securities. TLDR: GOP sucks, but some of the ideas here are legitimately better than what we're currently doing.

You notice Trump is being very careful to set all his deadlines for after the midterms? He's trying to convince the country that he's out there doing stuff, fixing things, lowering prices, etc. He knows none of this stuff is going to happen, so he sets the deadline to far enough in the future in the hope that his lies work and the GOP keeps the House and Senate. If the GOP keeps both houses, we're going to see all these promises rug-pulled before the end of November.

Every liberal member of Congress do a press conference where they all agree to pass this before the election and watch how fast the GOP votes against it.
