America lurches back and forth between the two parties based on who is in power when the economy is bad. GOP is in power, during a midterm, with high inflation and high gas prices and stupid tariffs and all the bad economic indicators, so they will lose seats. The types of politicians (literally the same people in some cases) who get run out of office in a couple weeks will win their seats back the next time they're the out-of-power party in a midterm. And it certainly won't be because they had a sudden change of heart and swore off bombing kids or shooting protestors or pardoning white collar scammers.
A topic that hasn't been discussed enough here is the political side of things, and how the Trump administration has clearly been doing things both publicly and privately to prop up the market until the midterm elections. After the midterm elections, which look like they will be a GOP bloodbath, I believe the administration will be happy to let the consequences of their short-term actions kick in. They can try passing the blame to the Democrats or to Washington gridlock once the Democrats control the legislative branch. I think they'll finally let the market correct downwards, either out of electoral anger or because they're running out of ways to kick the can down the road.

Inflation was under control and dropping when Trump took office. His direct decisions around the war in Iran and trade policy have reignited it. His prescribed monetary policy solutions of forcing the Fed to drop interest rates because of some idiotic "America should have the lowest interest rate" ideology would have made it even worse. It's rich calling anyone else low IQ if you can't even recognize that. Donald Trump and the GOP don't have a plan for anything at this point. DOGE was an abject failure and the deficit has actually increased because of OBBB handing out tax cuts to the richest people in the county. Healthcare costs are exploding due to the Medicaid cuts in it too. There are few if any economic policies that idiotic that was Trumpism has demonstrated itself to be at this point, an out of touch and outdated idea that the President can simply flex and bully anyone who disagrees with him into subservience, submission and disadvantageous trade arrangements. Of course when they lose midterms it won't be his fault again as Donald Trump is a man who can take credit for everything and responsibility for nothing. He's packed top level cabinet positions and agencies with flunkies and C podcast list celebrities because he's too damn insecure to actually handle push back. I think most are waiting for the carnage of the November elections. There will probably be chaos as the GOP claims every election they lost was rigged, but conversely the Republican election boards will say "fuck off!" when their security is insulted. December the new pork guys and gals will be settling in, then in January the balloon will go up. Trump will declare Congress a powerless body because all the elections were "tainted" and the massive gains the Democrats have will be used to inject some common sense as an anti-biotic into the inflamed and infected government. So after announcing the “deal” with Russia, the GOP controlled states suddenly stopped taxing their gasoline for 90 days. This effectively lowered the cost of gasoline. All of this is to win the midterms. Has nothing to do with the Defensive War in Ukraine from which the US has ended all support.

The GOP as a party seems to quietly disagree with that sentiment. They’re not going to openly condemn him in an election cycle - their political fates are bound together. But their actions are painting quite a picture. They’re shifting funding away from swing seats they hoped to flip and are pouring that money instead into attempting to hold onto seats that due to trumps sheer unpopularity went from effectively lean red to coin toss or worse. Texas is poised to elect its first Democrat senator since 1988 - when the Berlin Wall was still intact. Texas is the electoral college Republican stronghold. Maybe Paxton wins - but the fact that it’s not all but a sure thing is a grim sign for the GOP. The senate will likely stay in GOP control - barely. Potentially being 50-50 especially throwing the count off is fetterman effectively being a Republican. The house is likely to see a proportional sweep reminiscent of the post Nixon electoral rebuke. Unless something completely unforeseen occurs, I’m predicting a roughly 8% average shift across the board - some more, some less. Irony of the GOP “cracking” all those seats to gerrymander the electoral map is more seats are in danger of flipping than if they’d left well enough alone. Don’t get complacent. Vote.

I'm confused. The US is a net exporter of diesel. We produce a few hundred thousand barrels of diesel per day than we consume. The problem with US diesel prices isn't local supply, it's feedstock prices. Oil is expensive, which is making diesel more expensive to produce. There is also a tight supply problem with the rest of the world. It seems like importing diesel to a country that doesn't need it is just going to further constrain the world supply. This will increase the overall market price for diesel and drive US producers to export more of what they produce. Buying from onshore diesel producers should be cheaper than buying from Russian producers. Unless Russian producers are going to agree to sell to US purchasers are below-market prices. Which I can see Putin arranging in the short-term to help Trump's GOP to keep their majority in the upcoming election. After that, I would expect to see Putin and Trump give American consumers the middle finger and let things go back to normal. Lastly, this announcement is that Russia will, if they can produce it, make the diesel available for purchase. There have been no agreements signed with any onshore distributers to purchase said diesel. The agreement also likely violates the import ban signed in 2022, which is still in place. Long story short, this feels more like an announcement to manipulate the market to drive prices down in the short-term, much like Trump's previous "hey, we control the Straits now! Wait, no we don't. Yes we do! Now we're not letting ships through without making them pay a toll. Psyche! They can go through now" press releases. Why are diesel prices so high? Have we lost production capacity? Oil prices have been this high before without this crazy spiraling of diesel prices. Is it because the amount we were paying for diesel wasn’t profitable enough that they’re selling it to the other countries for bigger profits lowering our available supply of diesel? Social Security is not destroyed, or even near being destroyed despite decades of GOP misinformation. The trust fund is going broke, which only finances 25-30% of social security payments currently. So even if it goes to zero, payments will be 75% of what they are now. But fixing it is a simple fix. Republicans have refused for the wealthiest to pay their fair share, like with everything else. Remove.the cap, and the trust fund is solvent again. Simple.

I wonder what happens to AI stocks if the Dems take both the House and the Senate. I follow politics and elections closely since 2018. The trend is that when trump is on the ballot, republicans and trump wildly outperform the polls. Its simple, he truly has the magic to pull non-traditional voters to the ballot box, and these people are hard to poll. But in midterm elections, polls tend to either be accurate or underestimate democrats. The democrats voter base are now the high propensity ones, so they vote in every election. The non-traditional voters that usually help trump dont come out in midterm elections; hence their name non-traditional voters. These people are also less likely to be loyal to any political party, so if they do vote theyre not gonna vote GOP this election.
