Please educate yourself on how public-private key cryptography works. A public key is like a postbox/IBAN, while the secret private key works like a stamp which signs messages associated with the mailbox, and it can open the mailbox. Connecting to a web3 website is an operation which just lets the website know the postbox/account address. This is completely passive and harmless, and is the “Connect” action prompted by your wallet. Making any non-passive actions, such as approving some contract (e.g. Uniswap, or a hacker) to be able to spend your funds, requires a stamp/signature for this action to be made with your secret private key. Just like a deed needs to be signed to become effective. The UI prompt for these two operations looks similar due to Metamask’s questionable UI design. This is one of the reasons why it is A VERY GOOD IDEA to use a hardware wallet or at least a smartphone QR code scanning based wallet such as AirGap Vault. This way, your private key does NOT reside on your PC, it can not be stolen, and you can not accidentally use it to SIGN something that can harm you unless you plug in the hardware walley and click its signing button. Or you scan the QR code to be signed into AirGap wallet. Using a wallet such as Metamask with the seed on your PC is thus a very very very bad idea. Scam sites present the signing action as just some minor thing to do (you wrote “I just signed something above”) while it is in fact everything but. And since the secret key is on your PC in Metamask, it will happily do this harmful signing action. Performing a signing action === funds leaving your account, simple as that. Do not use Metamask, it forces you to keep a seed on PC. Rabby is a much better wallet extension. Get a hardware wallet or use airgap vault. Delete the seed from your PC and keep it in a hardware wallet or in airgap vault. Learn the difference on web3 between the actions of connecting (harmless, does not need private key) and signing (results in moving funds, needs private key).

Addressing specifically MEV on Algorand: There is no Maximum Extractable Value ("MEV") or frontrunning opportunity on Algorand which is one of the amazing parts of the chain. Algo tx fees are fixed; no reason for a node to pick any one tx over another to include in the next block so they are processed FIFO.  Front running requires planning right, like in this example: You manage to find an NFT \[non-fungible token\] ticket for the Taylor Swift concert for $500 on an auction dapp. When you try to buy it, a bot sees your transaction and front-runs it for the same price. But, don’t worry, in the same block they’ve sold it back to you for your maximum bid of $1000. But if you have NO IDEA when or if you will be chosen as a block proposer or validator, how are you going to plan anything? (FYI this is by design on the Algorand blockchain)

Windows is a GUI built on top of the DOS language. A .bat file is an executable SCRIPT (which is the same thing as saying program) compiled and run thru Windows by CMD.EXE because Windows is NOT an OS…it is a GUI. If you were at a DOS prompt (something you have probably never seen) you would see that you could EXECUTE a .bat file freely and totally separate from CMD.EXE

The second the internet existed people were able to Communicate in ways that were not possible before. The second it existed, it had utility. Lots of people couldn’t take advantage of it, but it had immediate utility. Btc did not. It didn’t even have value for the first year. Btc is an amazing IDEA. It has shown the world what is possible. Now those possibilities will come to the fore, and Btc will shrink. The internet is not one protocol. It’s a group of many. That’s what crypto will be as well. I'm a big bitcoin fan and only an amateur investor i have small amount of btc (so maybe someone with more experience in this space could advise better) I dunno if I'd be willing to allow my wife to gamble something that has worked for generations. CRYPTO IDEA: A crypto that has a useful mining function where an AI is trained. It could be a large language model and the more a node is able to lower its error means the more of the coin they receive . eventually the error would be so close to zero and no more coins could be made. Another way could be to have owners of the coin vote on the type of AI they wanna trains so more work could be done. I think this would be really useful and lower GPU prices by combining thr two biggest uses. Coin holders could vote on architectures, datasets, and other things which would effectively make training an AI much easier. What do you think of this idea??

Im going to add MOST people dont want to be solely resp for their money. Why? If there’s a f$ckup its the bank’s fault. People dont want to be the ones that got phished or whatever out of their retirement fund and have basically zero recourses. Yeah, because it seems very central to the whole space. It folds in with the scams since most of these are scams at their core. 5. I rarely have physical cash beyond a few 20's I keep for emergencies. I'm digital baby, all my transactions are done with plastic or online. Yeah, this is a huge one that kills coins as anything remotely useful. At best it's a speculative investment asset, *at best*. This is vastly naive. Maybe it's true for greenfield companies who are just setting up shop. But that's a minority of business out there. Everyone else *ALREADY HAS* ways to take payment. It's kind of the second thing you do after you've invented your product: figure out how you're going to collect payment. And these ways aren't just as simple as they look from the outside (pass over card, hear a bleep, walk away...). The mechanism of collecting payment is tied into everything. It's tied into inventory. It's tied into profit monitoring. it's tied into advertising, and ordering, into your employee performance monitoring, into your accounts and your tax collecting and filing, and your audit records, and the loan to your bank, and the bill payment system, and payroll... .... there are a thousand little tendrils snaking from whatever payment system you have into every single part of your business. The cost to glue crypto as an overlay onto any sizeable business is huge. And if it doesn't result in more actual sales, then it's a non-productive cost. Since practically nobody (except very fringe early adopters of payment systems, who very enthusiastically do) whips out their wallet and asks "now, where can I go shopping with this", that cost has almost no payback... because you choose how to pay after you've chosen to buy. And unless you are selling something to folks who can't (won't, don't) use any of the other available methods (a very small fraction of the population), you just aren't going to get a return on investment to adopt the new payment system. So merchants don't adopt. Unless it's integrated into one of the existing mechanisms. But unless all your customers know the new way is available beside the old way, when it comes time for them to pay, they'll pay the way they know... and now you (or the payment system) have to teach a whole bunch of customers how to use the new way... and that too is costly. These costs are enormous. The return is negligible, until scale. The problem is that you often run out of money affording the costs, before the return adds up enough to start paying for the existing costs, let alone repaying all the costs to get to scale. THIS FACT HAS KILLED ALMOST EVERY NEW "PAYMENT SYSTEM" IDEA THAT HAS EVER BEEN INVENTED.

I mean, you can do savings now without Bitcoin. You always could. The problem is that people think currency should be savings and school doesn’t really teach people the difference between currency and assets. If you want to save just buy an inflation matching bond or something like that that guarantees a return equal to inflation. Then you don’t lose purchasing power. Imo the problem is that prices are based against a moving target. Bitcoin does provide some help there but I don’t think it’s the perfect solution. Just part of the puzzle. Ideally we need a soft currency that fluctuates in supply so as to always keep purchasing power fixed. Very similar to what the IDEA is of an inflationary currency but probably best served via an algorithmic stablecoin pegged to the value of a lambo backed by assets such as BTC.

I love the IDEA of a play to earn game, but in reality they're all kind of terrible. For me, I think back to my time playing World of Warcraft. I played the game for a year or whatever. When I quit I probably could have sold my account for $100+, but to me it wasn't worth it as I didn't want to risk getting scammed or get my account banned. I don't even want to make a bunch of money or anything. If I could get back what I spent on the game or even $20, that would be pretty cool. The problem is you don't really need the Blockchain to do something like that and a game like that wouldn't attract investors or money. Any game with a token is just going to be a big Ponzi or feel like a free to play phone game which is not what most people want. If there's a way to somehow earn money playing the game it's going to be filled with bots or people in third world countries trying to earn a living which is just going to drive down the potential earnings until they become pitiful. Any game that requires an investment to play is a terrible business model that won't scale.

Please don't rely on just your memory, even for the passphrase. Your heirs will need it if you die, but it's also easy to be incapacitated in a way to make you forget. Real world example: I have a passphrase on my password vault. I typed it 10 times a day because I had it set to a short timeout. It was in my memory TIGHT. ... I ended up with a brain tumor that needed three surgeries and 35 days in the hospital. When I got home I sat in front of a computer... I had NO IDEA what my passphrase was. Fortunately, I had it engraved on a metal plate. If that was a wallet passphrase and I relied on memory and didn't have a backup, a chunk of my retirement money would be gone.

The economics changed a few years back when paper ETFs and fractional reserve exchanges started playing. Gold used to be a perfect hedge against inflation. But when fractional reserves and ETFs came to the gold and silver markets, the price instantly went stagnant, and has stayed stagnant ever since. We have NO IDEA if Bitcoin is immune to this.. How in the world is gold easier to confiscate than Bitcoin? People can literally bury it in their back yard and you would have NO IDEA they even have it and there is no public record showing them that they have it. The blockchain is public. If they can link a wallet to a person they can just wrench attack you until you give it up. The likelihood of this happening goes up drastically if you're forced to use BTC to transact for everyday living like what would be the case in a (in/de)flationary collapse. If the government wants to shut down the entire network, it would be easy. Nodes and miners are connected to the Internet. Things connected to the Internet have an IP address that is owned by a particular organization. So there will be two possibilities: 1. Someone is dumb enough to connect their miner/node to the network using their actual IP address. Trivial to track them down. 2. Someone uses a VPN or other obfuscating method. Government seizes the VPN company's equipment and implements logging. Trival to do and only a Warrant Canary will help you ([https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warrant\_canary](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warrant_canary)) . Keep in mind the conditions that you ding dongs are preparing for. A collapse of the dollar. Do you think the US government will just say, "Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I don't understand why nobody is zooming out to see the paradox we're in. Why do any of us own crypto? (Let's put aside BTC for this purpose bc that's a whole other can of worms) Because we believe we are investing in an asset that will make us a return in the future when we sell it for more than we paid for it. I hope I can assume that no one here thinks that any of your tokens (such as CRO, but this applies to any) are going to replace the global fiat system or $USD. Maybe sometime many years in the future merchants and service providers will accept crypto directly. But for the near future this is completely unrealistic for everyday expenses like rent, mortgage, electric bill food etc. Thus, we NEED exchanges to exist that sovereign gov't permit to accept crypto in exchange for fiat and vice versa. I know y'all say "I'm invested for the long term" but, since crypto is still mostly unregulated, prone to extreme volatility and basically we have no real idea where it's gonna end up, good or bad, we NEED to have liquidity. We have to be able to sell something into fiat for various reasons, for the foreseeable future, unless you're ok with your investment being worth nothing or being worth 1000x. But if so, what's the point of the investment then? So how do crypto exchanges make profit to stay in biz and pay employees and grow? From fees. From lending programs like Earn etc. They need us to provide action so that they can take a cut to pay bills and make profits. They provide services to us and interest for example, and we pay them for those services. If you're making 8% APY on your crypto, the exchange is making 10% APY and giving you the 8%. Makes sense, it's win for us and revenue for them. What do you think will happen to the entire industry, ecosystem, labyrinth whatever you wanna call it if we all up and pull our crypto from all CEX? And start to use on chain DeFi instead? They will all go out of business because they can't survive on the masses just occasionally doing their weekly DCA spot buys. They need to create multiple services and generate multiple streams of income in order to make it worthwhile to exist. This is the paradox. I haven't kept a cent on any CEX for at least a year if not more. (Well besides some tokens in Gemini Earn as a moderate risk APY vehicle). I totally prefer to custody 90% of my coins myself, and any plays I made with them I do on DeFi apps that I feel have a good Risk/Reward. So I don't use CEX for hardly anything. Yet I have several clean and KYC'd accounts all in good standing. Why? Cuz it's all just vaporware if I can't convert to my gov't fiat almost instantly when I want. I may not plan to any time next week or the week after, but you never fkin know! I might want to take some profits if the token goes on a tear. I might need to de risk asap if for some black swan reason it starts a death spiral. And a thousand other reasons. I NEED to know I can convert to USD with relative ease and liquidity. Think about it like this- if you live in the US and you think the Euro is going to outperform USD in 6 months for some reason and you decide to invest in EUR, would you do that if you weren't sure you could exchange it from the US for USD?? No, ofc not. Would you want to custody it in your own hands while you wait to see how it goes? Sure! But without an exchange, what's the point?? You'll have a million EUR in your wallet that you can't do anything with. At some point, you'll want to capture your return cuz what the heck are we all doing here otherwise? Again, it's a paradox. I don't know how to reconcile it. I want to tell anyone I know to get their assets off the exchanges, bc I don't trust them. Follow my advice, I've been doing DeFi for a while. But the other half of me is like, well if everyone stops using exchanges, and they become insolvent, then the bag of CRO (or whatever) I've built up becomes a bag of no value. We sure as hell aren't going to have 9,999 monetary systems in the world. Maybe we'll have ecosystems of a few hundred, and merchants will accept various kinds. I don't fkin know. I have NO IDEA where this will end up. And no one does. You may have guesses you're banking on, but you don't KNOW. I know #1, I expect to see some kind of return I can capture and #2 if I'm wrong I expect to be able to take a loss but pull my investment out into spendable money. Even at 0.50c on the dollar if I must. Next month, next year, 5 years. I dunno. Money and currency and sovereign gov't fiat is a complicated thing as it is. Participating in an entirely new system is risky. I accept that. But I don't accept that my only two options are watching it go to zero value or looking at some dApp that says a few zeros were added to my balance and not having a risk adjusted way of dealing with those two options. So in the end, of this long ass comment, I don't know the answer. We need CEX to exist in the present and near future at least. If they all went away due to FUD and bankruns that would be bad for everyone. If they all end up as frauds, well I'm glad I self custody my assets and you should too. Do you see the problem here? It's kind of like damned if you do damned if you don't. So for now I'm keeping some of my options in column A and some options in column B and hope for the best and don't invest more than I can recover from 100% loss. Otherwise... Yeah, crazy times. To save money in a refuge against inflation Now, if you're betting with stocks, hoping the price goes up, then you can do the same thing with bitcoin. If you're buying stocks for the second reason, then you have to ask yourself, "Which is a better hedge against inflation? The stocks I own, or bitcoin?" Your confidence in the answer to that question will dictate where you place your savings. The people that have all their money in stocks are people that trust the system. To me, this seems like the [bias of normalcy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normalcy_bias). I'm a bit of a rebel, and my level of trust in the system is represented in my commitment to bitcoin. I sold all my stocks years ago. Most regular people won't be able to do that without some severe anxiety. I understand their situation. They have been involved and reliant on a system for so long, they aren't sure what will happen when it no longer provides. Lemme tell ya... nothing in the world feels better than walking traveling anywhere in the world with 5 million in your head. You have **NO IDEA THE FREEDOM** you feel when you know that every last single sat you own will forever be with you, wherever you go, at any time. It literally feels like walking around with a briefcase of money and a security entourage. At first I thought it was a confidence boost from having wealth, but it's not. Fiat currency is "backed by" nothing at all. Within the context of "money" the phrase "backed by" means that you have notes which have a message printed on them telling you what they are "backed by" - typically gold or silver. It means that people can choose to take such notes to the bank which issued them and exchange them for the material (gold/silver) they are "backed by". I want more balance in my portfolio. Even if BTC was not around, I would be half in an index fund and half in a more aggressive fund. BTC is volatile as hell and we have NO IDEA where it's going to go long-term. You may even want to split the money into thirds. Now is A GREAT TIME TO buy as it is 1/3 the price it was 6MOS ago so you might want to buy more than half right now while it's ON Sale. This is just my 2 cents. Yes, looking at the btc charts we've been below the 200 week, it's fair to say one last spike downwards with the DOW and it will be as good as a bottom as any to jump back in. I think the channel is good for high level crypto news and I actually like the channel. He's one of my go to's in the morning. He does warn you in the beginning of all his videos that he's not a financial advisor and do not take what he says as advice. With that said, I'm not sure why we are criticizing the channel here...... Once you've been in crypto long enough, you'll realize that everyone in this space pretty much has NO IDEA what is going to happen. I'll admit when I first got into crypto, I thought these "influencers" were a good resource. I quickly realized I was wrong. Only watch/listen to them for entertainment purposes ONLY! Having high stake in POS in Ethereum doesn't mean that you get more voting weight. 1 node = 1 vote, and it doesn't cost any ETH to run a node in POS. >Initially investors and developers can essentially just sit on their holdings indefinitely and control the network. And an entity with $100M in POW has a far greater ROI than an entity with $100, unlike in POS.
