I read something a while ago about graphene enhanced drilling fluid. Huge benefits and requires a lot of graphene which Nano makes. Chat GPT Certainly. Here are the benefits of graphene-enhanced drilling fluids in a point-by-point format: * Improved Lubricity and Friction Reduction: * Reduces wear and tear on drilling equipment (e.g., drill bits, drill string). * Increases the rate of penetration (ROP), leading to faster drilling. * Minimizes torque and drag, improving drilling efficiency. * Enhanced Fluid Loss Control and Wellbore Stability: * Forms a very thin, strong, and impermeable filter cake on the wellbore wall. * Effectively plugs nano-pores in the rock formation, preventing fluid leakage. * Improves shale inhibition, preventing water from destabilizing the wellbore. * High-Temperature and High-Pressure (HTHP) Performance: * Maintains stability and effectiveness under extreme downhole conditions. * Resists thermal and chemical breakdown better than traditional additives. * Ideal for deep and unconventional drilling operations. * Improved Rheological Properties: * Enhances the viscosity and shear-thinning behavior of the fluid. * Boosts the fluid's ability to suspend and carry rock cuttings out of the wellbore. * Helps maintain the desired fluid properties, preventing excessive "gelling." * Potential Environmental Benefits: * Can be more environmentally friendly and reusable than other additives. * Allows for the creation of high-performance water-based fluids, reducing the need for oil-based fluids with their greater environmental risks.

Even with a quick thought, I can think of quite a few ways where it's physically possible. A simple mixup with logistics, where consumer-facing chips were mixed with engineering samples. Also the "you have a process to make a chip, it makes a working chip or it making a not working chip" is...very different from the process of how chips are made. You get a wafer, with a certain yield, and you bin them. If one die has some faulty parts but still functions, they have those cores or such disabled and sold as a lower end product that has the same die but less performance vs the higher end model due to the disabled hardware. That's...chip manufacturing 101. It's extremely efficient and is super cool how it's decided generation by generation, per product, per company. Since it's the same wafer, there's no need to only have one SKU be printed on one and throw out entire chips that don't meet the standard. Just print all the chips in a range on one, see which ones are good, sell them at a higher price, see which ones are less good, and sell them at a lower price with lower performance, whether it's dropping clock speed, physical cores, certain die allocation to features that require specific hardware. In fact, if you have too much wafer allocation but too little demand for higher end stuff, if the profit is there, you can intentionally disable certain features despite not having hardware issues, gimping a card and turning it into a more popular selling model. It's a well known fact among custom firmware flashing that if you get lucky, you can get a lower end product, flash custom firmware to overwrite any artificial lockdowns, and you might get a higher end piece of hardware for a lower cost because it's known this specific product has a higher than usual percentage of fully fledged silicon being sold. The risk of course is if there are problems, stability issues or permanent damage can occur. So another possiblity is, given the completely *by-design* ability to lock down sections of the die, it's possible there was an error somewhere and it caused some to have 1 ROP less. As for what is the cause, no clue, but Nvidia confirmed officially there's a production issue and it is fixed. You can see that as I lie. I will remain skeptical of Nvidia's claims until it's scrutinized over the long term by various independent and trustworthy sources.

Mentions:#ROP
r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

Currently everything's so new it's all news outlets investigating alongside Nvidia. Per the post headline, Nvidia officially confirmed the issue as existing with The Verge, in which a production issue is has caused 0.5% of the specific GPU models to lack 1 fewer ROP than specified, resulting in a 4% drop in graphical performance. It's literally what this entire discussion is about, alongside right up on top of this page. You can doubt Nvidia's official response, that's fair too. Perhaps investigating is not complete, perhaps Nvidia is intentionally obfuscating stuff like they always do with such PR things. But there's little mention of Nvidia chips lacking 1 ROP being the cause of AIB partners' poor implementation as far as I know. If there is info, I'm curious about your source.

Did you read what he said? >We have identified a rare issue affecting less than 0.5% (half a percent) of GeForce RTX 5090 / 5090D and 5070 Ti GPUs which have one fewer ROP than specified. The average graphical performance impact is 4%, with no impact on AI and Compute workloads. Affected consumers can contact the board manufacturer for a replacement. The production anomaly has been corrected. Bears are desperate as usual.

I think for the market to respond to it the company would either need to: Buy back stock. If management thinks it's cheap, it's a solid use of capital. It would also help the stock. M&A...I don't know if it could help the sector broadly. However, at some point the company is so cheap that it could be the target of an all stock deal. A company trading at 20x could buy it at 15x. I'm not sure that would move the whole sector, but it would be good for current shareholders at least. I'm just not sure of who the buyer would be. I mentioned NEE as it would help their utility scale solar operation. Maybe a ROP would be a potential buyer, but I don't think they have a history of all stock deals, but the software business would fit their niche nicely. Anyway, I don't own it. It is getting interesting at these prices though.

Correct me if I am mistaken but it appears that: 1. ROP is also down from 2021 highs whereas some like AAPL, MSFT, NVDA are still hitting fresh ATHs this year. 2. It is more expensive than some Mag 7 at 44 PE. EPS growth is inferior, spotty. 3. ROP has persistent and sustained history of shareholder dilution, whereas many of the Mag 7 are reducing share count consistently. I was allowed to do more bc I worked at a boutique firm and was a top producer. I wouldn’t trust any advisor I knew with my money bc all they are are glorified product pushers. And your series 7 score is meaningless. I got a 72 and fell asleep during my 63 and was asked to leave. I just retired in 2023 after 30 years. I was a ROP and an IA also. I probably will get flamed but another useless designation is CFP. Glorified insurance and budget creators. Best license is CTA. Get that and you actually do know what your doing. No. It. Won’t. Investing is significantly different than any of the materials for any designation. The best trader in our firm had a lowly 7. But he could trade/invest in anything and win consistently. Our trade desk was manned(and womaned) by pros with only one having a college degree. CFA = family office, mutual fund mngr =not true investors/traders. I will probably get flamed but if you want to be a great investor trader, then learn how to play blackjack. Totally serious. Being able to measure risk, reward, probability, trends etc in real time are invaluable tools. CFA’s are a dime a dozen. Successful traders are rare. I mean they are private companies that own these nuclear plants…they have to receive a license from us to operate. They also have to keep NRC resident inspectors on site. I would say the nuclear industry could flourish if we got more government backing in small modular reactors. If you want to learn more just go to the NRC website. It’s all public information. Constellation Software (CSU) Canadian software roll-up company. Excellent mgmt team under Mark Leonard. Focus on micro/small cap vertical software companies (as opposed to horizontal, many uses, e.g. Microsoft Suite) in niche areas with sticky customer bases (churn low single digits). I think of it as an IG bond with HY returns. Strong FCF generation. Very little use of debt and all acquisitions are funded in cash. 500+ portfolio companies held into perpetuity. Companies must pass stringent due diligence and are generally acquired at attractive multiples (think 1-2x sales). Current catalyst is a result of a board member who has been in Leonard's ear for some time. They are never able to deploy all of their cash annually because hurdle rates were too high. These are being brought down, and the dividend discontinued, because they believe they can invest the money better than their shareholders at lower hurdle rates and at higher ROICs. They are doing this as they venture into the $100m+ deal range. Beta under 1 and returns have been phenomenal since IPO. To see a US equivalent, see Roper Tech (ROP) (they fund through a lot of debt though). If interested, Patrick O's recent podcast with Will Thorndike discusses them briefly

Wouldn't butterfly be ideal on something like SPY that doesn't move much? Would you consider a butterfly on a stock like that, which mostly stays within a certain range? On ROP it looks like the profit is fantastic as long as within a certain range. It's just that there isn't much volume.

Thank you. Good points all. I am studying to understand them better, and how to slant it one way or the other. For stocks that tend to stay mostly within a given range, would you say it's good to do a standard butterfly (equidistant wings) at the money? I succeeded with ROP on this. The reason I failed the other time was, not enough volume to resolve it.

Mentions:#ROP

I really think my butterfly on ROP could have been hugely profitable everytime... it was just a standard with equidistant wings, but it's a great essentially range bound stock. The problem was, there is so little volume I couldn't close it when i tried multiple times. Would you consider it sensible to do a butterfly on SPY? It certainly has tons of volume, and fairly low IV. I was thinking of it. I want to get more into butterflies, regularly, then learn to hedge the direction like in the example you gave. Thank you again.

But you can't close it if the volume is zero? Is that why ROP was so difficult to close out of for me? My profit was big, 70% or more in some cases... and I tried setting the price lower just to close out, but it would just expire at end of day unfilled.

Straight term is always the best bet, least profitable for insurance company. In your ROP example, the insurance company is basically saying there’s a 90% chance she doesn’t die during that period, so a 90% chance we have to pay back the premiums. Then your premium is the result of a present value calculation with investment returns on your premium, probability of death, profit margins, etc.

You also get the death benefit paid out if she were to die. Under normal term life you get nothing at the end of 15 years or whatever the term is. Company is obviously making some money off the feature but the question is what is the difference in premium between no ROP and it ROP. FWIW, I’m an actuary and not in sales.

I have a butterfly at Robinhood on ROP, it was in the green today for 200%, more than $400 bucks profit... but their desktop widget will not let me close! It just keeps getting cancelled at end of day, even if I set it to a lower price.

Did you reach out to them to let them know what you were doing? They probably still would have closed you out b/c you were taking forever, but maybe the ROP would have made an exception. They can't read your mind, you are just a number on their risk profile.

WAT - I'm convinced it's the largest holding simply because it's called waters corporation. Looking at the company website, it looks like they make lab equipment, seen nothing about actual water. DHR - it's a major conglomerate, maybe a small percent has to do with water, but the majority doesn't . ROP - again an engineering company that makes lab equipment, not much to do with water. ECL - only true water company on ur list as they deal with purification. Even then, water purification is not their main focus, they deal with cleaning equipment as well. Sure these ETFs and companies are killing it but not because they deal with actual water and water scarcity. Basically none of them deal with that issue. So it doesn't make sense to buy PHO or any of the water ETFs you listed solely because water is going to be more scarce.

WHO, HOW & WHEN TO SHORT If like me you think we’ll get a pull back but also see the Puts on the SPY are very expensive consider Puts on the higher quality tech stocks which have mooned lately; FB, MSFT, EBAY, ROP, CRM, INTU, DOCU etc Puts are way cheaper with much lower IV. On top of that and as a hedge in case it keeps pumping the Calls in the SPY are actually very cheap vs the Puts.
