Stumbled across FOAM while browsing today, looks kind of like helium but a decentralized version of GPS and mapping (like $30mm market cap, but not on any CEXs). Anyone familiar with this one / have thoughts? Debating dealing with the hassle of getting ETH to metamask for the first time ever to buy some after seeing how much HNT blew up.
Theres a few people doing this. FOAM is another one in the blockchain space. I think its a little early as the infrastructure isn't even close to being built out yet. Then again the last time I researched LoRaWAN was in like 2017
They've decentralized the beds. I'm bullish on $FOAM but the prices on goose NFTs are crazy right now.

Proof of Location crypto like FOAM?
Cosmos (ATOM) Cosmos is the next step in the evolution of blockchain. And will become the internet of blockchains. Out of the all the third generation blockchains (Cadano, DOT, Tezos, etc), Cosmos leads the way in every tech aspect and in interoperability. It can do everything Cardano, DOT, etc are trying to do, except it can already do it. And that includes smart contract. And it can do smart contract in multiple languages. It's not limited to just solidity. It's also faster, cheaper, and has more scalability than Ethereum. With much better security. Binance chain, OKEX, Aragon, LUNA, Thorchain, Kira, Mediblock, Loom network, IRIS, Regen network, Hyperledger, FOAM, etc... are just some of the things running on Cosmos. And to top it all, Cosmos is still low in market cap, and relatively underpriced, compared to other similar gen 3 projects.
I wish XYO or FOAM would take off. Proof of location would absolutely revolutionize smart contracts.
I honestly haven’t looked into LTO that much, quick glance says No. XYO jam was supposed to be location verification via what they call bound witnesses. Those write to the blockchain through an archivist. If someone wanted to verify that someone/something was really in the location it said they could check via the blockchain. If anything is close it’ll be FOAM.

FOAM. It's a radio beacon technology on the ethereum network. In theory, if our GPS satellites all went down, battery powered radio beacons could still allow us to determine location.
Actual Longshots are... FOAM. It's a secure location protocol based on the ethereum network. It would be a way of determining location without GPS satellite. Vesper (VSP). It's an ethereum-based crypto that just launched in February that has a solid team and product. It is considered a yield aggregator (like Yearn Finance) but with a much larger TVL and much smaller market cap.

I got a bit of heat here for putting my opinion out on a coin similar in tokenomics to safemoon but another one I found really had potential was FOAM. The project is basically to replace location verification by GPS with blockchain technology. Worth a look if you want to. Foam.space is the website.
Did you find any new updates for FOAM because there are no news lately about the project. The team behind FOAM is totally dead.

FOAM was posted the other day and I was pretty blown away by the uniqueness of the project. Looked pretty cool. I'd put money in but my risk tolerance for the low cap coins is maxed lol. The website was foam.space
I lived in the countryside. The idea is that why would you need to *prove* where you are out in the rural areas? If a rural county had an economic incentive to set up FOAM beacons near a tourist attraction like Devil’s Tower National Monument, then they could do that. But if there is no reason for people to prove where they are then you don’t need beacons. If all you need to know is simply where you are then GPS works just fine. GPS tells you where *you* are. FOAM is for proving where you are to *others* for economic (and potentially legal) reasons.
That’s a good question. My portfolio is not built to get me there the fastest, I’ve been in crypto since 2016 and am already very comfortable with my position. I expect to 10x my portfolio in the next 2 years and then I can retire, I’m 29. I hold 80% of my portfolio staked in ETH, 20% I trade in and out of more risky positions. I think most people here tho are looking to 100x their portfolios, I can’t tell you how to do that nowadays. I did it already but I’ve only done it once. I’m a fan of DG, OVR, MANA, FOAM for big potential gains on REAL projects. I don’t play with shitcoins, it’s unethical because for someone to win someone else has to lose. Shitcoins are one of the main reasons for the 2018 collapse. Participating in shitcoins is like participating in slavery. Just facts ;)

They’re similar in that both are targeted towards Internet Of Things. $IOTA seems to have a broader scope. In order for $IOTA to work, it will definitely need geolocation capabilities. I’m not sure if they have an internal solution for geo loc or if they are looking to integrate with another network such as $FOAM or $HNT
Quite a few > 1 million USD wallets holding only FOAM. They look like exchange wallets. Really don’t like that ~20% of the supply for this token is in those while only 0.3% is in uniswap. Who knows though maybe that’s super bullish as when they list them a lot more buyers will be exposed.

This sounds a lot like the Helium Network (minus staking and smart contracts). Helium already has 25k + radio hotspots deployed around the world and has real world use-case partners. The current use cases are geolocation and data transmission. Any thoughts on FOAM vs [Helium](https://www.helium.com/)?

Interesting idea! I really like the concept of a privacy preserving, decentralised location service. I was wondering though, over what distance can the radio beacons operate? I would assume they would be limited to Line of Sight (LoS), and require a LoS between the user and 4 beacons to be able to provide a confirmed location? How would this work if I was in my car, in the middle of a city, surrounded by high-rise buildings on all sides? Would the service require beacons at every street corner or intersection to provide continuity of connection to the network? Also, what type of frequency and radio equipment is needed for the beacon and the user (receiver). Currently GPS works well as user can have a very small receiver embedded in a mobile phone, watch etc. Would the same be applicable to the FOAM network? What do FOAM beacons use to synchronise time ? Are one or more beacons connected to NTP via an internet connection? or is there one 'master node' that uses an atomic clock that all other beacons synchronise from? Thanks for the great write up, I'll definitely be digging further into the whitepaper!
GPS is good at telling _you_ where you are, but not good at proving to _others_ that that's where you are. For example: Uber would attack competitors by sending fake pick-up requests from random locations. With FOAM, Uber could require users to submit a proof that they are where they claim to be.
Where there is no people this wouldn’t apply. Generally speaking you don’t need to prove your location when you’re out in the woods. This isn’t to replace GPS. If you just need to know where you are then GPS is great. If you need to prove where you are to commercial interests or even government interests, then you would need a non-spoofable method like FOAM.
My biggest regret IS selling my FOAM early...
I’m guessing it’s similar to $HNT. When you set up an $HNT router, it has some sort of GPS that estimates its location and the operator manually fine tunes the location, which is then verified to be consistent with neighboring routers. After the initial setup and verification by multiple routers across the network, the devices would essentially not have to rely on gps anymore. Thanks for the heads up on $FOAM. I love this space of crypto and hadn’t heard of them. The thing I can’t wrap my head around is how a project like this (IOT) can function on $ETH. These devices will need to be sending so many TPS (think in the case of traffic) that the fees will make it impractical, regardless of the scaling upgrades to $ETH. In this sense, I don’t see how anything competes with $IOTA in the internet of things space. I am not a technical blockchain wizard so I would love to know if I’m missing something here. But from a zoomed out viewpoint, it seems like you have to run a low/no fee, high TPS network to make IOT and smart cities achievable.
With our current dependency on geo location services, you mention FOAM supports verifiable location data but to what? A device? A person? Interesting...trying to wrap my head around it
eh.. it's pretty expensive all around to be fair, but I expect FOAM to do some great things in the near future so I don't care. It's one of my comfiest bags.

Protocol with a native platform that is easily accessible to end users on mobile, desktop, and VR. The native platform is what people interact through. The protocol mechanics are accessible for third-party developers to build applications for either specific distributed communities or a wide range of them. One use case is that someone can run IoT shoes in Chicago is able to compete against someone in Tokyo on a fair and even match on a platform that uses the FOAM protocol and AI to make sure that the competitors are racing each other on even ground - regardless of topography.
