My.Gox was sketch when I first was researching Bitcoin. They didn’t do ACH, credit cards, etc; instead you had to send a bank/certified check, money order to an address in Atlanta, GA. From there who knows what happens…

The article linked doesn't support your argument and I'm not sure why people are acting like it does? * Of the 16 cities the Guardian obtained records from sending homeless people away on free, one-way bus rides 6 of them where Californian, including San Francisco. * Furthermore, the article states of this homeless group 88% of them are sent to cities where the average income is lower. This would suggest they're vastly being sent to places that aren't San Francisco or similar as they have some of highest average incomes in the country. Specifically regarding homeless relocations from New York City the article says the most common destinations were Atlanta, GA and Orlando, FL. * In 2017 San Francisco specifically sent 10,570 bus journeys out of the city; They received 0. >Over the last 12 years, San Francisco’s homeless population has grown from around 6,200 to just over 7,600, according to the city's counts. During that period, a small number of people in other cities have been given free tickets to relocate to San Francisco. A far larger number – more than 10,500 homeless people – have been moved out of San Francisco on buses. The article doesn't merely not support your claim, it actively contradicts it throughout.

For GA ticketing it doesn’t work at all unless Ticketmaster is the one running it. Where it might be interesting is in a meet and greet or VIP experience service provider that artists could contract with.

This exactly. And that’s before considering that Ticketmaster is owned by Live Nation. Meaning that in the best possible case a startup may only be able to get a foothold with independent venues which is not a particularly large or lucrative market for the development needed to implement the idea. Imagine the logistical nightmare of artists and their management selling GA tickets direct to fans in only a 1000 cap venue for a seasons worth of shows. Yikes. 10k? 50k? Absolutely no way. Plus it reverses the settlement roles, I doubt any promoter or artist management would even want to consider the agreement. I like the sentiment, and could see it being useful for M&G or VIP packages but it just doesn’t work in practice for GA ticketing unless implemented by Ticketmaster themselves.

Tried to get odesza tickets this weekend for their tour and coupldnt buy a ticket cause of ticketmaster errors on their site. Now they keep sending me emails that tickets are available, but they’re all resell tickets for 3-4x the original price. (Ie, “GA” tickets to the venue were $35, the cheapest ticket right now on ticketmaster is $148 + $34 in fees). The fees alone are same price as the original tickets. Fuck ticketmaster and scalpers.

Can you tell me if this is true or not? This article is old but it more or less confirms what you're saying - Ticketmaster, the venues, the promoters, and very often the artists are all in on the con. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2009/08/10/the-price-of-the-ticket Everyone agrees on an average price, and maybe 50% of the tickets are sold to the public at a slightly lower price. Maybe 10% go out for free to insiders and promos and whatever, but the rest are put **directly** on resale sites to offset the cost of the lower priced GA tickets. All parties are happy to let Ticketmaster take the fall so the artists save face, and in reality "scalpers" don't really exist. Why would all these other parties let scalpers make money when they can make it themselves?

I would suggest checking out GA or DA. Or just reading some introductory stuff on their websites. If u have drug issues - NA is worth a try too. Substitute in crypto/trading/futures- whatever it is that has truly got you in this place. Go to a meeting and share about it too. No judgement, you’ll be heard.

I work in alcohol and substance misuse, from what I've learned the general rule of addiction as a disease is that a diss-ease of the mind needs healing and is causing us to seek distraction. Try and find a local GA meeting and get some connections and support in folk who are working towards healing their needs. Start by finding other things that stimulate your mind away from this addiction whilst also seeking professional help. And reach out to someone close to you if you feel like you can. The realm of the hungry ghosts is an incredible read on addiction and how we fall into it. Atomic habits by James Clear is a great read on changing habits. Good luck.

Hey, I don’t know where you live, but there are tons of GA (Gamblers Anonymous) meetings around the world. Admitting things is a huge step, but you need accountability and folks in your life who you can relate to and talk about it with. Here’s a [link](https://www.gamblersanonymous.org/ga/locations) to their website to find meetings. I know there’s a lot of love/hate for anonymous meetings, but anything helps. And it doesn’t have to be the *only* solution and ultimately won’t be. Trading futures is hard. All of it is challenging. And it’s so easy to treat it more like a casino than a long term investing, especially if you’re prone to addiction. Hang in there. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat. I’m happy to.

That's tough. I have an addiction history too, not with gambling though - drugs. I would look up Gamblers Anonymous. Having an outlet to talk about these things is extremely helpful. A therapist wouldn't hurt either, only help. Unfortunately IMHO you won't be able to gamble with cryptocurrencies anymore, but that's okay. There's a lot more to life than gambling/crypto. Reach out for help in GA( Gamblers Anonymous) online, you won't regret it.

You've a history with gambling addiction. What you are doing here is gambling so don't kid yourself. You are just feeding your gambling addiction and labeling it something else. Your after a quick hit that you might hit once in a while but then you wouldn't stop. Delete all your apps that's a start and look at visiting GA. Good luck

Thanks for the info here. I’m looking to do one of two things: 1) when I get the new phone I would create a new GA account on that phone. Im just not sure how I’d associate it with my coinbase account since I already have a GA account associated with it 2) Use my current GA account on the new phone I’m getting. To do that I think I need to use the seed? I won’t have access to my old phone because I’m doing a trade-in, so I don’t think the QR code route is an option. Does that make sense? I might just not be understanding what I should… I just want to access my coinbase account on my new phone

I have the Google Authenticator app installed on my phone and have implemented it into Crypto.com, Binance, CoinJar and something else. Oddly I couldnt see an option for it on Gemini. I’ve also installed it on my mom’s phone. She’s a bit old fashioned and only uses a smartphone to video call some family members. The phone never physically leaves the house. So if I lose my phone or it’s stolen or the OS gets corrupted, I can simply go over to hers and re scan (“export”) ‘her’ (my!) GA back into my phone. She has a passcode on her phone for security. And none of the associated apps are installed on her phone. So even if someone got hold of it somehow it’s largely useless. As I travel a lot, in a worst case scenario where I lose my phone but need immediate access to an app, I can call my mom and get the code verbally. It’s not idea but better than nothing. I am against the idea of taking a screen shot of the export QR code, and against having her send it to me as an image over iMessage, whatsapp, email etc. I have also backed up my iPhone onto my laptop using Apple’s own backup software. I have read tho that does not backup the keys within the GA app. Unsure if true.

don't use GA OP it's trash. you can use any 2FA app that generates TOTP's but i recommend andOTP which is FOSS (Free and Open Source) and has some sanity features like encrypted backups (so you don't have to worry about where you store the backup) and app pin protection. so with it the process of backing up all your 2fa codes is basically: * in andOTP, create encrypted backup with password * copy file anywhere * buy new phone & install andOTP * import 2fa codes from andOTP and enter the password. to answer your last question yes. you can make 10 backups and import them to 10 different phones right now and every device will show you the correct codes. you don't need the internet as it isn't uploading it anywhere. TOTP stands for Time based One Time Password so as long as the device keeps the correct time, it will generate the right codes anywhere.

Mentions:#GA
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

Just take a picture of the QR code and store that pic somewhere, You can still use it on your current device after doing this. But if you ever lose your phone, just get a new phone download GA, and then use GA to import that QR pic you took, and voila - all your 2FA codes for all your exchanges will still be there.

No, I don't like it. Should not name dead institutions after a living constitution. Its ppl in the future who decide if Satoshi deserves such an honor. To have anything named after her. They will live with the known results! I named it a PEON in the other federal courts after PEANO the mathematician and its a different unit. Ugh, the second? The 1? Will never work as modern, organized physics applies it! Actually, I named the infinitely smallest sets in set theory a PENO as they only have a name for the largest. PION with as i _might_ work. The GA is not tied to your account and it can be kept offline on a spare phone.

Well the biggest argument for authy has been, even of your device stops functioning, you can access it on a new device, it requires that you have saved the code. While on GA it’s not possible. For more comparison it’s better to search about it, lot’s of research has been done to it

Thanks. I didn’t ask my second question very well. What I’m wondering is if the second phone with GA on it has no Internet or Wi-Fi access, how does it “notify” the protected app on my primary phone what the new 6 digit auth code is. My understanding is these change over time. Probably my lack of understanding on how this actually works. Somehow the protected app needs to know the new valid code. Wondering how a phone with no internet or Wi-Fi access communicates this.

IOS Backup. Go to Manage Storage in the iCloud section of your device. Go to Backups and select your device. Untoggle GA. For GA to work on a second device you need to add the QR Code/Set Up Key again for each application. IOS DOES NOT sync them these across devices

Great advice. Two questions. I googled it but can’t find how you remove a specific app from your IOS bacKup - GA in this case. Also if I use a second phone with no internet or Wi-Fi access for GA, how is it syncing the code to the app on my primary phone?

I keep GA on a separate device. Even if I get hacked they can't get to my authenticator.

Coinbase, [crypto.com](https://crypto.com), mexc, and kraken. I guess what I'm confused about is, how do I get new codes? If I disable 2FA from those apps, how would I go about connect a new GA if my phone already has GA installed on it? I'm assuming deleting the GA app doesn't resolve that? It's a way to prove ownership of a digital item. For instance, if you want to flex how much money you own, you may buy a Rolex or really expensive Nikes. But how do you do that in the metaverse? You buy a RTFKT pair of shoes (now part of Nike) or a BAYC/Crypto Punk. Another example would be some clubs and casinos in the MV require you to own one of their NFTs to get in and participate. Why not just require a regular old username and password? Because the NFTs accomplish the same thing, but with much more transparency (being on the Blockchain). Another example would be traditional basketball cards vs digital basketball cards (NFTs). Some people will never want to switch to a digital version if the collectable, because they need to be able to feel the card...similar to traditional books vs ebooks. They don't care you can hold 250 books on a small device and rent books from your library without ever having to leave your house, they still prefer the physical versions. The NFT version of basketball cards (NBA Top Shot) has the advantages of: 1) you can store thousands digitally on your phone, with access to your entire inventory 24/7. 2) the marketplace is much faster and more efficient (no mailing your cards off to get graded, then waiting for them to grade them and mail them back, then put for sale on ebay, and then mail the cards to the buyer). 3) You know exactly how many were minted, because it's all on the Blockchain. You have no idea how many physical cards were minted. 4) You can see exactly who previously bought your NFT and how much they paid. This allows for better Marketplace analysis. 5) You don't have to worry about your NFTs physically degrading or being destroyed. 6) NFTs generally have much more utility. Top Shot rewards collectors on a daily basis with various contests and challenges. Owners of Phoenix Suns moments were entered into a raffle and the winners received an all expenses paid trip to the finals game in Phoenix with a suite etc. There is also a DFS you can play daily using the Top Shot moments you have with cash prizes of $10,000/week. 7) The Top Shot NFTs aren't a static image. It's an entire play. And you can display your NFTs on digital frames if you're wanting to show them off (like some people do with thier physical collectables). 8) The communities built around some NFTs are amazing. They aren't for everyone, but too many people aren't critically thinking enough about them, instead just dismissing them as stupid because that's the popular belief right now (which I understand, because all most people know about NFTs is BAYC and CryptoPunks...but those are a very small percentage of people flexing how much money they have. It's not representative of the NFT community). If you think we are moving to a more digital future, then you might want to at least try some out to see for yourself. If you are into sports, I suggest NBA Top Shot (they have NBA, NFL, and will soon have UFC). If you like gambling, I suggest Gambling Apes. They have just built a casino in the Decentraland Metaverse and give profit sharing to all GA NFT holders (as well as free monthly poker tournaments with crypto prizes). If you are a dad, I suggest CryptoDads. They have a great support group, sell their own energy drinks and whisky, and have IRL meetups all over the U.S. If you are into comics, I suggest VeVe. But there are many other NFTs for a variety of other things. All I ask is you give it a try (you don't have to buy anything, just check them out). It's just a superior product, kind of like Netflix vs Blockbuster, IMO.

>You're confusing your Google Account backup codes with Google Authenticator. No, those are 2 different things. This will be my last reply since I am done trying to convince someone to save their backup key :D There exists a backup key for GA, that I have both saved and used to restore my GA onto a different phone. It is shown when you first download the app and is 16 digits. It exists, but perhaps you forgot to save it when you first downloaded the app.

Hypothetical question - If I take a picture of my QR code backup now and print it out without restoring it to another device at this time, will it restore without issue should something happen to my device that already has GA on it?

>The way you talk it sounds like there is a backup code or seed phrase for the Google Authenticator app itself as if it's a wallet. There is a code....I do not know why you do not believe me I have literally restored my GA with the code only to be given a new code upon restoration.

>So in case of phone loss there is one code to restore GA itself There is no one code to restore Google Authenticator itself, there never was. I'll need a link to back this up, the way you're talking makes people think that Google Authenticator has a seed phrase or code which it does not.

>that website will show you a QR code That is separate from the code of Google Authenticator itself. So in case of phone loss there is one code to restore GA, and another to restore the specific website which you used it for, such as Binance. Each website will have their own code.

I have not been able to do that. Without GA working, I can't login to Binance and I've been messaging support for 3 years (every quarter they get a new email/phone call combo) and every time, nothing can be done.

What if I want to tie my accounts to another GA because I have a suspicion that my current GA is compromised? Can I just unlink the accounts to my current GA, delete the GA on my phone and make a new one and then link the accounts to it? Or am I stuck with my current GA unless I reformat my phone?
