What makes a hardware wallet more secure than alternative options?

I highly doubt Xiaomi reports its users' data to China and I doubt they can even access your crypto exchange's data in the first place. Even if they could, China can't do anything about since you're not a Chinese citizen. If you really are paranoid just install a custom ROM like Pixel Experience of LineageOS

r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

My best choice would be to get a budget pixel and install copper OS on it, it's the most secure out there. But as a compromise, you can just install a custom ROM, I don't think china can do anything about what apps are installed in your phone if you have a custom ROM, maybe they have some trackers within the HALs. That's it.

Nah I'm happy to hear about your opinion I really respect that, I will learn along the way but I want to know how and allthai things work so I can't buy algo from metamak my phone doesn't have lot of RAM and ROM to work smoothly it's already so glitchy but I have to download nano and EXODUS if you are recommending it

What kind of cell phone do you guys use? I'm waiting for Pixel so I can flash custom ROM on it (GrapheneOS). The main reason I'm doing it is because I want an ultra private phone since I have a few mobile wallets with coins on them.

That's the Freedom phone. Dude bought a cheap China phone, plastered it with "Freedom OS" which is just a custom android ROM, added a reskin of the Google play store that "doesn't block any apps", disabled the infrared sensor and the GPS, and then sold it for $500.

Yes but back then a Newspaper had actual facts true investigative journalism. What you could research and study on CD-ROM like encyclopaedia, national geographic etc were science based facts. The internet has enlightened us as much as it’s destroyed us with it’s never ending shit spewing click baiting privacy stealing sheep feeding shit on shit. I hope Crypto does better

The only thing I don't advice is that you shouldn't force people into crypto. I've introduce 3 f my friend but I used a different approach. I downloaded the Sylo smart wallet app and sent some xtz there for them, baked them so they can get yield ROM it. Only 2 stayed in crypto. The other one person is not interested. The 2 are doing well in the space now

supposedly tailsOS is specifically designed for this purpose. but in order to be sure it's as clean as possible, you need to run it on a ROM like a CDROM or DVDROM.

My dream ROM would boot a Linux kernel to a defconfig BusyBox root file system. From there you could chroot to a LFS jail and compile things like full vim, bash and Tcc. With with this you could easily script menu driven programs to calculate market formulas, track your portfolio,etc.. This is what I do anyway with Termux but it sure would be nice to have it on my old phones without the GUI and extra bloat. Remember the sharp Zarus

Just asymmetric encrypt it man: Encrypt it and save it where you want: cloud, git repo, pen drive, micro SD, CD-ROM, DVD or even in a piece of paper using the “armor” option. Use your private key to decrypt it, keep your private key somewhere safe, backup it and use a symmetric encrypt to protect it.

Does the phone support independently developed ROMs? Different ROMs on Android are akin to different "flavors" of Linux. If one "flavor" implements bad stuff, I can ditch it and switch to a similar "flavor" that doesn't have that garbage. For example, if Ubuntu suddenly implemented a ton of telemetry, I could decide to ditch Ubuntu and use Debian instead, with only minor changes to my user experience. Similarly, if my device has ROM support and came with Amazon's Fire OS or Huawhei's HarmonyOS by default, I would be able to switch to LineageOS or GrapheneOS, both of which are independent of megacorporations and do a better job respecting privacy.

Let’s do some math, u/ROM-STAR. There are 3300 more banking transactions than bitcoin transactions in a day, and bitcoin requires substantially more energy per transaction than VISA. if bitcoin replaced VISA, energy use for financial transactions would increase exponentially. That would be like taking every person that uses a subway or train to commute a mile for work and giving them each a hummer to drive themselves separately.

Mentions:#ROM#STAR
r/BitcoinSee Comment

It's only secure if it's air-gapped. That way you can sign transactions in your air-gapped laptop, move signed transaction to a device connected to the internet and then broadcast transaction from it. Tricky part is getting a signed transaction from air-gapped device to the one that's connected to internet, you have to either manually write entire tx from one device to another or use something like a write-only external CD ROM and write onto a burner disc. USB sticks are a big no-no of course.

Financial, Political and Social controls are interdependent. Where one is weakened the others will be strengthened. We have already heard the arguments that Bitcoin is anti-social and is only used by drug dealers and terrorists. The political arguments are centred on the sovereignty of the state and National rights to govern and control the monetary system. The financial arguments are all too obvious, it’s too unstable, it’s not really money etc. So it may be just that as the governments accept these new financial frameworks they will feel emboldened politically and socially. Chinese people will have CommunistCoin #COM The US will have the FreedomCoin #FRE Europeans will have a weird antiquity coin #ROM the Africans will have a Redemption coin #AFR and they will all be interchangeable using Chainlink or Cosmos or something. I don’t know, I’m tired and talking nonsense at this stage. FREEDOM FRIES FOREVER!

This is why I don't trust my phone with anything, although I even flashed my own ROM on it: All cell phones basically have a second processor on the chip, the baseband processor. It has a completely separate OS, is not under your control by any means, can access your hardware and memory without your main operating system even noticing. And since it is the piece that allows your phone to send and receive calls and data, it can obviously do that as well without any possibility of you ever noticing. There aren't really a lot of companies that produce this baseband processors. And since the three letter agencies are already on record to go to great length to infiltrate companies to sabotage crypto or plant backdoors I would be EXTREMELY shocked if they didn't pick this low hanging fruit. I would rather go with an old Laptop to be honest.

Yes, there's that and don't store your coins on an exchange. Then there's get your data from Google, change your phone to a different ROM, use Tutanota, Signal, etc. Like I said in my other comment, these are good privacy notes but have nothing to do with crypto and give the wrong impression. Google isn't stealing your crypto keys. End to end encrypted messaging is again fine advice for privacy, but when it comes to crypto you shouldn't be messaging anything that could compromise your keys to anybody on any platform, no matter how secure you think it is.

**Linux Phones** First, I have to start this by saying I **want** Linux phones to succeed. More competition and more options for users is never a bad thing. However, I'm pretty skeptical of Linux phones. They lack some of the more advanced security found in modern-day mobile operating systems like iOS & Android, in addition to well...needing to actually succeed in building a good phone! (Not to mention needing software support) It's my job to stay on top of the newest projects, so I've had a Librem 5 preordered since 2018. Still haven't received it. It's now $750 for hardware that could have been released in 2013. The killswitches are probably the most attractive thing about it. Even then, I use my phone for 3 things: Phone calls, Signal, and Web Browsing. In its current state, I can't daily-drive a librem 5 as there is no official (mobile) signal client unless you use workarounds like Anbox. If someone like me who uses a phone minimally doesn't want to daily drive a Linux Phone, I'm honestly not sure who will. Pine is a bit better since it's priced much more fairly, but still suffers from some of the above issues. Either way, I do agree we should cheer these projects on and encourage their use when applicable for the user. As of today, I'm a firm believer in the following options for people: * iOS: Top-end security with great third-party privacy protections. The main drawback is Apple's walled garden and first-party privacy concerns related to Apple. Additionally, FOSS-advocates will avoid this like the plague - because iOS is closed source, but also because Apple's walled garden doesn't allow some FOSS projects to succeed and do well (Which is the opposite on Android) (examples: Briar, Tor, Signal being able to handle SMS and be a default messenger, F-Droid and everything within it, etc.) * CalyxOS: Custom Android ROM with the option to use MicroG to use a majority of applications without any issues. Really solid in-between option with good security, and good privacy. * GrapheneOS: Custom Android ROM with no MicroG and the worst compatibility for applications on this list, but overall the best first/third party privacy & security offered improving on Android.

That's pretty much what happened in my case. I was having a lot of issues with my phone after an update, so I flashed another ROM. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have payed more attention to this app, but I installed about 50 apps in a row (including other wallets).

Yeah, plenty of people with bags packed with VET left out in the cold. What's it been, 12-18 mths since that info pack was rolled out re: associated with BMW? Nothing has really been said/done about BMW since, and if there is anything that has transpired with the alleged partnership of those two companies, then VeChain's staff need to lay off the coke and get shit done. (Did I say I like the coin?) On a side note, have you seen the adoption rates of new vehicles that have features unlocked by the manufacturer when you pay more money? Upward trend in the acceptance of that too. The hardware is already fitted to the car at time of manufacture, you just have to pay more money to have those options functional. And people are doing it, in droves... Then there's the subscription of options model. I have a background is writing definition files for the purpose of editing ROM files to suit the intended purpose, pertty much whatever I want the fucking car to do. It's not as hard as it sounds. For some people, that might mean enabling things but usually it's just screwing more POWAH out of the engine, to get to a number on a dyno... but that's a whole other story. My point is, it's becoming very difficult to do this with new cars, and it will only get harder. DataDOT (early adopter) was one form of security on expensive car parts, but there's a massive use case, in that area for not just cars, but the parts bins on wheels they become, it's not just BMW either. Every manufacturer will need a solution, some of the big boys will historically have their own in house solution, however many of the smaller players probably have to contend with an EOM supplier. I mean BMW don't build gearboxes, that's what Getrag or ZF is for. It'll be the same. See where this is heading? For those reasons and many more, there's a lot to like about cryptography from an automotive manufacturers point of view. I see many, many use cases but I'm not seeing anything that is implemented. I hope VeChain is down that road, for their sake I hope they are, because if they are not, someone else will beat them to it. TL;DR - Options on Cars will become subscription based, heavy tech things. It'll be crypto that tightens all of that up.

I agree with your reasoning BUT I think you’re omitting lots of very important aspects in order to come to your conclusion: - There is a known amount of gold on earth and there is an infinite number of cryptocurrencies - Bitcoins is not the only cryptocurrency - Cryptos can easily be lost - They can’t easily be recovered if lost or stolen - The market is VoLaTiLe - It’s easy to buy and a lot easier to sell than gold - It’s easy to transport. (This is the biggest advantage) - It’s hard to transfer cryptos upon your death, at least harder than gold. - BTC lives on a clunky old network - Cryptos use lots of energy, it’s like RAM while gold is ROM Ultimately, cryptocurrencies are just like precious metals and gems, with different advantages and disadvantages. There isn’t an overall best one, just one that is best for you. All said, HODL BTC.
