I am long KRBN. Just be aware that carbon credit markets are shaky and prone to corruption. With appropriate regulation they seem like a good market that is detached from equities, bonds, and RE, but that isn't guaranteed. Especially given the harsher downsides of climate change starting to hit faster than expected it seems like a ready to go solution that at least has some institutional support. I have a 1% stake in my long term portfolio.

Look up ETF’s for your project. If you’re not familiar with ETFs, they are like a basket filled with companies of a similar kind. Instead of buying any one company, you’re buying shares of the basket and all the companies inside. This helps you spread your risk. Some examples are… ICLN KRBN CNRG CRBN You can look up these ETF baskets on lots of websites, yahoo finance is an easy one. Scroll down, and you’ll find a list of all of the companies in the basket.

I am going to actually sell some of my "safer" low-risk holdings like KRBN, KWEB, Google and just buy that initial trend up when it happens. It will be something to behold. I get excited just talking about it lol. I can recall that Nov run up just before the SAFE talk and wow, what a feeling...same with that Nancy Mace run up, Biden speech

Via the stock market, the only carbon credit publicly traded companies that would give you exposure to this would be Carbon Stream OFSTF or the new kraneshares offset ETF KSET. There are currently a number of new companies just starting up that will likely go public in the next few years. These two are the only ones I know of that are offset focused. KRBN is similar but focuses on cap and trade allowances, not offsets (which is the type of credit that reforestation projects generate). For reforestation carbon projects specifically, it is a very nascent field and companies are still in a capital raise or proving themselves phase.

r/investingSee Comment

$KSET is offset exposure via standard contracts traded via the CME group. You can also invest in Carbon Streaming, $OFSTF, which provides early stage funding for projects and project portfolios in exchange for future royalties/streams of credits. $KRBN is just allowances I believe.

A play based on reversion: If KRBN touches 44 in the next few days I will be buying 10/21 calls ATM looking to break even then double. Looking for a break even premium of $3.25 or less if it gets down there. Not much open interest at all in these option chains, so I'm not sure how to play that, give me some input if anyone has time. Thesis is that I followed the fund up leading up to the pre-ukraine drop with calls and was able to buy / sell my meager positions, so had no real issues with the action on the options chain. The price for a carbon credit needs to be in the mid to upper 50's in order for earth to survive, possibly beyond. The fund has touched those numbers already. Other play is selling puts until I get assigned on PRPL. Cause I love it. And they've been expanding into brick and mortar retail through a variety of vectors, and potentially launching a new product soon. Lay on one of those 4" Premium Hybrids. I'll be selling puts as the price rises until the day I get assigned, then sell far OTM calls cause why not. I don't think it will go parabolic or anything crazy, just love the bed. Finances are murky, medium risk low reward, but I'm loving it.

Thought about this a lot. 1. I think sunscreen/sunblock + lotions are going to be irreplaceable for health and looks going forward. My play for this is Johnson and Johnson. 2. I think HVAC or cooling companies will be killing it. Many houses in my area don’t have central. I’d also say Home Depot will make a killing on window units and other home Reno supplies for changing climate. 3. I think insurance premiums are going to skyrocket depending on your area. We know more storms are coming in the Southeast of the USA. I know Texas has a shit power grid, but I can’t envision freak weather going any better in the south. Insurance companies are going to want higher prices for the risk. 4. Clean energy is the safest play as I hold out hope governments will panic and attempt to supercharge clean companies with money but who knows. Hard to bet on this but companies already making good money would most likely get big investment rather than smaller players. 5. Carbon Credits. KRBN

Mentions:#KRBN

A couple areas you're missing: Lithium-ion battery recycling is going to be huge. I particularly like Li-Cycle (LICY) in this space. Carbon credits has a very asymmetric risk profile, a great hedge with a significant upside and not a lot of downside, though it depends a bit on how you judge the political risk. KRBN is a great ETF to get global exposure. There's also ETFs for the American (KCCA) and European (KEUA) markets, and an ETN (GRN).

I personally buy KraneShares Global Carbon Strategy ETF ($KRBN), which is benchmarked to cap and trade carbon credits via futures contracts. If you aren't familiar with Cap and Trade carbon credits, the way it works is (approx) as follows. The government gives (or auctions off) credits where one credit is equal to one ton of carbon. Companies can only pollute corresponding to the amount of credits they spend otherwise they face fees and penalties. Companies that are able to use less carbon, can sell their excess credits to other companies on the free market, creating a price for these credits. Every year the government reduces how many new credits go into circulation, essentially creating a market pressure to be more efficient. This scheme is currently being used in California and in Europe. The $KRBN ETF uses futures (like the Bitcoin ETFs) to track the average price of the credits. There are also other risks (Contango, etc) to holding a futures ETF so explore those before purchasing.

I personally found Reg A and Reg CF offerings to have the most impact. I have personally been really happy with these investments not because of high growth, but because they are not correlated with the broader market, unlike my ICLN investment. https://www.energea.com https://www.raisegreen.com I have also liked my investment in carbon markets through KRBN, but that is a whole different risk profile that you need to understand before investing.

My fan theory is that Putin's lil 'scapade' will result in markets tightening up and more regulation from EU, with a two birds approach. Or the wild will continue to do nothing and we'll all die of heat waves in the next 25 years. Either way, WERE HEADING NORTH BROTHER!

I made my normal weekly investment. Technically I should be putting cash into VTI/VXUS/BNDW since they're the furthest off their target allocation, but I sold a bunch of stock a few weeks ago to pay off my house and cover my yearly IRA contribution. So if I buy more VTI/VXUS/BNDW I'll be in wash sale territory. So in waiting til mid June to start investing there again. Instead I invested more into my positions for AAAU, KRBN, and ICLN. Once June rolls around it's back to VTI/VXUS/BNDW.

Lets say carbon credit prices go up a lot. Good for KRBN, but then energy prices start going up, consumers complain and the government implements policies to bring carbon credit prices back down. Seems like it will have limited upside due to this.

Mentions:#KRBN
r/investingSee Comment

I don't have any comment on its day to day movement but will say it can only grow as a market place over the long term. KRBN invests in several markets, and the only really mature one is the EU. The others are emerging with the idea that they will become more rigorous over time. The California market, being a state market other regions can join, could some day be supplanted by some sort of national program for addressing Carbon emissions - hard to tell the future there, but that won't happen without warning because Congress would be enacting it. The China carbon market seems bound only to grow. It's nascent, China's commitment to reductions is on a slow incline, but is there, present, and slowly growing. These markets a literally designed to make credits more expensive. For the EU market, I prefer GRN over KEUA because it seems to cling to its index better and I think it is more affordable to own. The EU market has super commitment from the EU, the threshold is high for bringing any political pressure on it. Only the war in Ukraine seems to have shaken it, recently

KRBN? Some guy on WSB who consistently makes hundreds of thousands recommended it. A strategy that has worked out pretty well for me is following certain people on Reddit that do well (on non-meme stocks) some guy who made a series of amazing predictions mentioned in a comment that he went heavily into KRBN calls. Can someone explain this to me? KRBN is a carbon credit ETF that holds futures for carbon trading programs. How I understand it is, large companies are only allotted a certain amount of carbon credits, and if they run out, which they usually do, they are forced to buy additional carbon credits if they want to continue to operate. However, individual investors or banks can apparently also buy these carbon credits and resell them for market value, which is sort of a loophole that brings the private market place into a government regulated criteria for business operation, meaning that carbon credits will continue to go up in value as world governments enact policy to further reduce carbon emissions. Companies will not be able to change fast enough to lower their emissions (if even at all) and will continue to buy these carbon credits at higher and higher prices. What do you think? I think he put about $30,000-$40,000 into KRBN 60c expiring at the end of the year.
