We know the mafia used to run Vegas but who’s to say it’s not still a thing. CZR is reporting earnings today and we can see their only lifeline is online sports betting bc their debt is insane
Usually there is a notable selloff before shutdowns and the market gains from the beginning to end. I couldn’t find a single example of the market at all time highs when a shutdown starts. Most of the total us GDP growth is tied to AI companies, we have 0.5% growth without them. The consumer is struggling, 69% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, 25% of those are using high interest buy now pay later for Groceries and they are totally screwed. Credit quality is slipping. Only used cars ten to 15 years old are selling. Tariffs are the highest since the great depression, but inflation is officially marginal, so far, but companies had lots of time to stockpile inventories. Hopefully that lasts through Christmas, the time when most companies go from res to black. Most earnings growth is from a tiny percentage of companies. We have lost about 1.2 million immigrant workers, most of whom were here lawfully, awaiting lawful asylum hearings since they made it to the border. Republicans in Congress have never submitted a single bill to change this law. If you have had your assets in the stock market for a long time, you are richer than ever unless you are extraordinarily bad at picking stocks and are underperforming the S&P by a standard deviation. Retail investor margin is at an all time high, as are inflows into 2x and 3x single stock funds that are absolute garbage to hold compares to options or anything else. Retail has been long the right stocks, mostly, except for Tesla, Open, quantum, and other meme stock garbage. Most CEOs are stalling new investments, aside from AI tailwind fields, not hiring, or laying off workers. Don’t get me wrong, I am long. Trends don’t reverse overnight and the stock market and economy are different. But, the best and earliest indicator of most recessions is a market crash. Once a recession is in progress, you should probably be long at lows. But, I was 100% long semis and cloud with tiny index fund sleeves and no long puts from 2023 to 2025. Now I have a barbell. I even bought verizon, ben and berkshire. I have long duration long puts on TSLA and CZR. For me, that lets me sleep in rather than waking up way too early to follow the premarket. Goldilocks conditions are possible. The Fed could give us two cuts in the absence of economic data, which would conflict with the mandates of a data driven fed. I am not in the business of predicting the fed or predicting Trump. I am more concerned with protecting gains than doubling again. I don’t need the stress and headaches. Still overweight NVDA, AVGO, GOOG and TSM. Locked into those positions in my non IRA accounts and I don’t need a giant tax bill.

While Etrade has been a thing. I did NOT hear 20 year olds talk about trading til robinhood and videostore craze. Thatsa also when I started trading at 34 after the 2020 crash. Roths made 50% 24K to 36K( We maxed 2019 and 2020 on wife and mine by April ) and my robinhood grew over 100-200%% gains ( CZR PENN MGM NCLH and Carnival Cruise ) I was hooked. Lost money on the videp one at the top and converted all my RH gains to VTI and later sold my tech stocks and bought VGT Im pure VTI VGT and SGOV now. but not stopping til I retire at 58

Tell me why I shouldn’t gamble on CZR
I bought long-dated puts and CZR and SPHR as weak hedges against my aggressive longs. If everything tanks because this is another crap low-volume summer, will big spending/growth-scare/inflation/jobs market/unforseen chaos selloffs, they will start to correlate with my semis. If not, they expire worthless. I'm definitely not making an August 1st changes everything bet now. I think CZR will have persistently crappy fundamentals (international boycott, too much domestic revenue), pro poker players can now only deduct 90% of losses, phone sports betting is going to be a LT secular headwind). I think SPHR ad revenue will tank. I don't think anyone is swooping in to save Vegas. If these might expire worthless, I'll roll them. I'm still long though. I saw nothing to be concerned about in hyperscaler and semi earnings reports. Statistically, this is another great quarter. But statistically, summers suck. The tariff drag is real but I think we haven't seen it because companies and countries learned from Trump 1 and have been piling up inventories. When the inventories are gone, I expect inflation numbers to get worse. I think that will probably happen before year-end, but I don't know that.

This is hilarious, I just bought puts (albeit long-dated) on VICI just today. Why? - America's International tourism is down. People all around the world don't appreciate the attempted tariff shakedown that just happened and aren't visiting the US for good reason. Plus nobody wants to visit for the chance at an all-inclusive paid trip to El Salvador (prison). - China tariffs are about to wreck discretionary spending when almost everything is about to get very expensive so nobody is gonna be visiting those those casinos that VICI owns. - With 🥭 at the helm, I think there's a pretty good chance we get driven into a recession or worse. Sure sole folks might go to a casino during recession, but if you look at examples like CZR and MGM around 2008, it would suggest most people do not in fact gamble during bad times.

I can give you the rundown. I bought $7000 of ERI shares (Eldorado Resorts, which is now Ceasars CZR) a day or two after the bottom of the Covid crash in March 2020. Rode that up to around $30,000 by May, and then sold the shares and bought call options for the same ticker dated for Jan 2022. Sold those in October 2021 for a total of $175,000. I then held the cash until Putin started fucking around in Ukraine in early 2022, at which point I started buying SPX puts. By late May I had turned it into $1.6 million. It blew up real fast after that though, as I made a few wrong moves and vaporized large amounts. Making this kind of massive return with options requires two things to be true: (1) you must have absolute conviction in your position without question or you'll be scared out of your position when things temporarily go against you, and (2) you must be right about what the market is going to do. I'm pretty good at calling market turns, but all it took was a couple of wrong bets when the market started to turn. BTW, the next big turn is March 28. That's the top of the Trump Crash. Bottom is SPX 3300, perhaps 2000 if things get really bad.

Czr was acquired by El Dorado gaming and started acquisitions going in Covid (terrible timing). Management has turned it around since then, looking at recent activity Czr has refinanced debt (that 8.25% note is now 6% as of October, and 50bps tighter than B+ notes). Mgmt is focusing on deleveraging (sale of non core assets [promenade and WSOP in last 2 months]) for a stronger balance sheet. Currently, equity markets are asking for a higher premium to peers than debt markets are, which is the opposite of what should be happening as debt investors should be underwriting to higher scrutiny. This implies debt investors are seeing CZR as safer than peers, while equity is not. I can’t speak to MGM, I only know the CZR business.

CZR is going to be your for sure get rid of. Long Consolidation Trend incoming. Sentiment Indicators show as peaking. Great Sell confirmations showing in my charts. NIO needs to go as well, but you can get a bit more out of it. When your MACD crosses back over enter a Sell position in about a week to 2 weeks. SNDL is in consolidation with peaked sentiment indicators and ever increasing Bearish signals in the Trend indicators. This could go either way, but if you can capture profit anytime is good to sell. Recheck after the market decides how to Trend once the consolidation ends. If it starts rising grab it early and sell the moment it peaks because it trends towards a cycle of consolidation as these investors appear to have too much indecision
I looked at this stock recently. They have $18B in debt and $25B in net tangible assets. That does not seem like they have too much debt to me. Compared to CZR which has $28B in debt and -$10B in net tangible assets, which looks much worse than VICI. It seems like they basically split the company into the good half and bad half, and VICI is the good half.
