Try selling a piece of physical gold first. You will find that the amount you get back is way less than the spot price, so it is a terrible way to buy gold or silver. Pawn shops and jewelery stores often pay 80% of the value. Much better to just buy an etf or such, RING has more than doubled in the last year, so one example, but there are many etfs. But the buy to invest in gold or silver was a year or more ago, now it is at an all time high, so not a very good starting point.
**A PROMISE RING TOMORROW** We’re at the hint (rumour) stage expecting a promise ring (EO) on Monday per some media reports. We want to get to the marriage (S3 finalized). Only then can we take that fancy honeymoon. The ring arrived in a velvet box, soft and impressive, catching the light just enough to make everyone lean in. When the President held it up, cameras flashed. “This,” he said as he slid it onto the finger of the nation, “is a promise.” It was a beautiful ring. Inside were careful words like intent, direction, and hope. It did not change anyone’s last name. It did not move any furniture or unlock new doors. But it meant something. It said, “I’m serious about where this is going.” That ring was the EO to reschedule cannabis. But long before the ring showed up, there were hints. There were longer conversations than usual. Questions that felt a little more personal. And then, almost casually, plans for a vacation to Paris. Paris was not the wedding. Everyone understood that. But Paris was romantic. It was symbolic. I bought RING ETF a few weeks ago. Thought it would be a good group of different mineral stocks. Great returns. But now down red, red, falling since I bought it. China trade tarrif stuff.?
Hi, I'm not an 'expert,' but probably 80% of our 125k investible assets are in gold and silver, mostly gold. I prefer ETFs over individual stocks, with their "single issue risks," so I charted NEM against GLD and the miners GDX/GDXJ. I wanted to see how much performance you'd have to give up to go from NEM to one of those. Turns out, [not a lot](https://imgur.com/a/JVBfpzg). Now, I have to admit that NEMs trajectory is quite smooth for a single company, and it tracks the miner ETFs quite closely, or vice versa. I checked ETFdb to see which of those held NEM, and how much: it's GDX, at 7%. In that list I saw that RING has 15% of NEM. And when I plotted it with the others, it's doing a bit better than GDX, about 4% over those 6 months. I bring that up just in case I can get you to do an ETF instead of the stock, then with RING you'd have twice the exposure to NEM than with GDX. And fwiw, I play all my ETFs with 1-year, 80-delta Calls. When they appreciate, I take profit out of them by rolling UP (back to 80-delta) and using the cash to buy 100-120DTE 80-delta Calls. It's been phenomenal. A lot of [this return ](https://imgur.com/a/schwab-account-statement-11oct25-BLwTnhq)is driven by SILJ though, which beats even NEM on the 6m & 3m. Cheers!

Spot is at $52.16 (all numbers as I type) so they are 93% of spot. (I'm assuming you bout a $100 face value bag of 90% silver coins.) Physical is illiquid in that it is hard to sell, but it can still be sold but often with quite a bit more work. ETFs are most liquid. CEF is two thirds gold, one thid silver. You can also buy mining stock ETFs like RING.
Putting extra money first into an IRA or Roth IRA would be smart, in additon to your 401K contributions. Then emergency savings and even a normal brokerage account. If you want to be ready for early retirement or layoffs, having some non-retirement savings can be helpful to access before you are 59.5 years old. That is a good place to buy an gold ETF or such. Buying physical gold is not ideal, as it is very costly to sell. No one will buy it for what it is "worth", most places will only give you 80-90% of its value, as they want to make a profit. Owning a GOLD ETF is much simpler and easier to sell. And most even pay a dividend if they are gold miners (RING, GDX, GDXJ, etc).

Great, I picked up on some sort of cosmic brainwave I suppose. But you lost me at "stagflation environment" and "the actual \[right\] thing to do right now." You'll sound smarter if you think and talk like that, but meanwhile there are pragmatic people out here just trading whatever the market provides, regardless of what some kind of "environment" or "paradigm" people name it. Did you know that's it's alright to pick stocks and ETFs simply because they're going up? It is. Do you have a 5th grader handy? Explain to them just a little bit about charts and how this "thing" was worth that a year ago, but now it's worth this today. Then show them a chart of a thing that's maybe flat or even going down a bit, but that "should" go up "when the current macroenvironment is fully priced into the market," or whatever other esoteric things the pundits say. Tell them that their allowance will be put into one of those "things," and that at the end of a month they can pick a new "thing" if they want. See which chart they pick. That's momentum-investing of course ("performance chasing" if you're less diplomatic), but it works as well as any other method out there. Do this for me when you have time: go to [Barchart.com](http://Barchart.com) and find their ETF Screener. De-select all the leveraged ones. You can keep the 1x inverse ones. Add the filter Has Options. You should get about 1280 of them. Change the view from Filter View to Performance. Sort by 3M %Chg. Scroll down until you get to the ones that have 'only' done about 30% over the past 3 months (that's 120% apy, remember). Start shopping there. At the top right of the list, click on "flipcharts." Change the Template to Line. Leave the duration at 6M. Across the top, scroll over to XME. 30.8% over the last quarter, and I'm in it, so I have no qualms recommending it. Grab your 5th-grader and start flipping through charts. XME is good in my opinion, but ask your 5th-grader. 4 later, XTL is good. RING is good. ECNS, XSD, CHAT, SIXG, METV, PIE, MAGS, etc. As you're going through, don't even look at the names; just look at the price action and figure out what that's telling you. And *don't* overlay any market sentiments you may have. And *especially* don't let your/our primitive primate brain tell you that "they've gone up too fast so they HAVE to go down soon." They don't. Really try to overcome that; I think it's the biggest obstacle people have to getting into good stocks. It's why people have been sitting on the sidelines for 5 years with Nvidia, for example, waiting for it to be "properly valued" or some such drivel. The price action tells you all you need to know. Believe in it.

Sort all the ETFs by 1-year performance and gold and its miners are high on the list: AUMI, SGDM, GOEX, RING, GDX, GDXJ, GLD, IAU If you buy them, sell Covered Calls against them. 30 days at 25-delta is good. If you know how to buy deep ITM Calls as *stock substitutes*, then do that for 4-5x the juice.

Over the last 10 years RING has gone up ~ 2.3x whereas GLD has gone up ~ 2.4x. Over the last 20 years RING has actually decreased from $52 to $35 while GLD has gone from $87 to $270. Pretty clear that gold has been a significantly better investment the past 2 decades than gold miners
Look at the 10-K filings like any other business. Or buy the RING ETF. There are other gold mining ETF's, that is the one I have used.
