Average down. NTFX failed aquisitions are not great, WB was a huge letdown and they didn’t pay up for ROKU, but they’re new strategy to produce higher quality films for traditional release could really work well with the advertising money they have. I bought LEAPs last week.
I agree, at least on the perception. To some, as you mention, it looked as though Netflix was acting like they needed a big move and they didn’t get it (and still haven’t). I always saw it as they simply entertained an opportunity for the right price. It didn’t help the narrative that they also looked at ROKU. It was a good inquiry, and would’ve been a wild and potentially great move, but it certainly looks like they’re searching hard for something new now. I think they’ll trade sideways until the next earnings report. If it’s good, they’re back on track. I don’t own any shares (splintering streaming landscape, and I’m simply adding into another pretty heavily—and I think there are far better plays right now), but I’ll buy if NFLX goes to $68 and sits there for a day or two.

Not sure. Once the narrative on a growth stock turns they can crater. Look at some of the software stocks like Intuit. Still trades at a price to sales of 7.2x. They lost the Roku deal after losing on WB this raises pressure on them to make a deal. That pressure could cause them to overpay for a shitty company. FOX got ROKU for a fairly low price, the fact that NFLX would not not agree to go higher is really stunning.

Don't care really. ROKU hasn't been interesting to me for years now and I don't want/have no interest in shares of FOXA (the deal is part cash/part FOXA shares.) I think ROKU shareholders probably aren't thrilled with this result, clearly nor are FOXA shareholders.

ROKU is hands down the worst of all the platforms. I'd rather be forced to use Samsung or LG's god awful smart platforms than Roku ever again. Google TV, Firecube/stick/whatever (Android versions) etc... are all so much better. This is just one of those stocks I'll never understand because the underlying product is so terrible.

Why ROKU is trading so far below buyout price. They're getting tons of Fox stock and deal will not close until next year. Fox is mega down on deal which offsets the premium.
Obviously if you are an IB working the deal you are not the one buying shares, it would be against policy, and you probably don't even have the personal capital to move markets, but let's say your employer would. Prior day ROKU volume 2m shares; next day 15m shares and over 20% surge. Are you suggesting this was "normal" FRI activity with no knowledge?

It's amazing how little usefulness most new tech actually has. At some point consumers will realize that all these features are just added crap so companies can raise prices. You know what would be a great product? A refrigerator that just keeps food cold. Nothing required. Just cold food. I remodeled a bathroom last year. No AI needed. Just found good materials by looking at those materials in person. It's surprisingly fun. Plus you add in the sensation of touch by physically encountering the material. It's an often overlooked step and it's why shoddy materials feel different than quality ones. I'm old!

In stock picking, people can chase gains and get trapped at the top. Ask people who bought MRNA, Zoom, ROKU, LULU at the top. I would still stick with SPY/VOO and QQQ. If you are more bullish on tech then skew the proportion of QQQ higher.

I have a friend who bought ROKU for 85 and it ran up to 490 in less than 1 year during the pandemic. He didn’t want to sell because he didn’t want to pay short term capital gains tax. ROKU is now at 129 and he missed out on over $40k of profits all because he wanted to save $6k in taxes. Paul Tudor Jones once said that a good time to sell is when it seems like it’s going up forever. If you are not going to sell, I would hedge so you secure the profit you have now. I am a believer that anything can happen in the market and AMD can pull back to 200 by Dec 2026 and if it does, you could end up with a loss instead of a gain. Whatever you decide to do, you have to be at peace with your decision and accept all possible outcomes.

There's no real connection between oil prices and reduced consumer spending. At least, not in earnings reports for consumer companies (DECK, SHAK) and tech service (ROKU, RDDT). You might be right about oil prices, but are, I think, wrong about the effect higher gas price will have on the overall economy. Inflation is real, but there's less of connection between inflation and consumer spending than armchair economists want there to be.
"If there's no LNG or oil to run your fabrication, how are you going to sell what was promised." I don't know how this applies to companies like RDDT, ROKU, PYPL, Z, DOCU, MTN, which don't manufacture anything.
I used to own PYPL, PINS and ROKU. Sold all of them for HUGE losses, but those huge losses would have gotten WAY worse and did get way worse. DCA'ing into a bad idea in the first place doesn't help anything. It's possible to catch a falling knife for 8 months straight

There's a fine line between genius and moron when it comes to diamond handing positions. One guy diamond handed ROKU during covid and rode it up and right back down, losing well over a million in potential gains. Another guy had a ton of UPST that he didn't lock in when it was trading in the 300s and rode it back down. So it's a double edged sword, bruh.

People who are concerned about the state of things (such as the dollar in what seems like an increasingly multi-polar world) keep buying silver and gold. Has probably gone too far too quickly, but I can see $5K gold this year and $6k in the next 2-3 years wouldn't surprise. "How sustainable is increasing 1.5x in a month?" It's absolutely not. I have things up 50% and it's just halfway through January. That said, a good portion of this sub has hated this rally all the way up since the apocalyptic sentiment at the bottom in April. "I can’t help but think that this is increasingly a market driven by FOMO and hype." Much of the last 5 years have been. "Maybe the exponential growth continues and we see 70% growth the next month. Maybe we crash and everything drops 70%. Maybe suddenly everything flattens out and trends towards their more natural growth (likely under 30% a year)." Maybe the market goes up, maybe it doesn't? Nothing wrong with being bearish and don't disagree that the move in the last month isn't sustainable but ... how many times have I read that in the last 5 years on here with no catalyst in mind just "the market has gone up a lot and that's too much....right?" Genuine q: what are you doing given this view?

I pick individual stocks. No ETF's. I'm up 25% in 22 months of long holding my stocks. I do add on dips. I've also trimmed some stocks, and they approach (what I think) is resistance. I bought stocks near all-time lows. I looked at ROKU and thought, "wow. that's low." In truth, most of my gain comes from RDDT and buying on dips. I never second guess my choices, but I think they were all very undervalued, when I bought. I've lost money on both DECK and PYPL, but I am certain they will go up/rebound. I might be delusional, but I don't have any doubt. I see their drops as a buying opportunity. I just sold half my VFC (when it crossed $19), because I'm uncertain it will go higher.
Days like this I'm glad that I'm diversified because Netflix is less than 5% of my portfolio, but I'm booming today due to RDDT, ROKU, PLTR, AVGO, and META

Yeah I like dividend stocks and sold ROKU (not a dividend stock) which I kind of regret because I believe in the stock. Who knows with how crazy the markets. All these layoffs make people suffer.
I bought Nike at $52 and Target at $87. Bought ROKU at the absolute bottom in April and got rid of it at $100. Microsoft still have it and bought in April. UNH I bought it at $255 wish I bought more of it. I’m into dividend stocks. I like KVUE, Nestle, PFE, KHC, Roadzen, UNH, NVO but I bought NVO very low and it has a dividend. I like food stocks that have been around for multiple decades. I know food stocks and pharmacy stocks aren’t sexy tech stocks but I’m not buying tech because I think it’s a bubble and evaluation is ridiculously high I’ve been through 4 recessions. Sold all my TTEK shares for a profit (has no dividends).
Because people buy shitty speculative stocks at all-time highs that never recover. stocks like Zoom, MRNA, ROKU, Square, Paypal, Upstart, Nio, XPeng, etc never recovered from the 2022 bear market. The same may happen to a lot of small cap AI, quantum, and nuclear stocks that retail piled into over the last few months.
