Yea utility + infra is the way to go. For infrastructure, Comfort Systems (FIX) is carrying my entire portfolio (+200%). I originally bought it as a play on global warming (because many places in the US that historically never needed A/C now need it), then it turned into an AI data center play. I also have ETR and CEG at +100% each as standard electric utility stocks. Outside of electric utility I'm looking at water, recently nibbled on AWK and VLTO. Both AI data centers and the semiconductor manufacturing industry will require significant investment here. Last year I bought FSLR around $190 but I chickened out and dumped it at $150 something when Trump was messing with the subsidies. Fuck me.

Companies like AWK - American Water Works, at the rate we are cooling and the mining that needs to be done with rare earths, we are going to need Water Purification/treatment companies more than ever before…. Really any pure play on water purification and less Utilities. Utilities are capped by government for how much they can grow. Not sure what the pure plays out there are.

Looks great, one stock I like is AWK, which has been a pretty steady stock, a recent merger caused the stock to plunge about 14%, people ran out and bought Essential Utilities instead because there was the potential for 10% discount with a 3 for 1. I just bought AWK because it had become cheaper. They pay dividends. Defense: ONDS is looking tobe the most promising drone company. RCAT is a good pick too. Can't go wrong with old players like LMT.

r/optionsSee Comment

I'm just getting into options trading. Started off buying calls and puts and was losing money. Now I've decided to sell calls and puts and maybe I will make money from people like the old me. The strategy that I came up with (not saying it is anything original) is to identify high quality companies with low betas (e.g., JNJ, WM, AWK) and buy 100 shares of the stock. Sell a call option ~30 days out with a strike price at about 110% and then also sell a put option ~30 days out with a strike price at about 90% and buy a put option at that strike price minus $10 (I am also selecting stocks that have a per share price of at least $100 so that the $0.65 fee per contract doesn't kill any gains). I have a neutral outlook on the market so the idea is that I'm holding stocks that I am happy to hold and making a little premium on the side. Another way of getting a little more leverage is to 2x the put credit spread. However, I am wondering if the premiums here are worth it? As you might expect the premiums are not exactly exciting on these trades and there is definitely downside risk.

The global bottled water market is projected to grow from $292.6 billion in 2025 to $509 billion by 2030, driven by rising demand for clean water, health-conscious consumers, and sustainability trends. Major players like Nestlé, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and Danone dominate, but Primo Water (PRMW) offers a focused investment opportunity with strong growth potential. This DD explores why water stocks are worth considering, with a focus on Primo Water as a high-potential pick, alongside safer options like Coca-Cola and water-focused ETFs. **Why Invest in Bottled Water?** The bottled water market is a stable, growing sector with strong fundamentals: Market Growth: The global bottled water market is expected to grow at a 6.4% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2025 to 2030, reaching $509 billion. Still water (74% of the market) and sparkling water (7.9% CAGR) are both expanding, driven by health trends and demand in emerging markets. Consumer Trends: Consumers are shifting from sugary drinks to bottled water, with U.S. per capita consumption rising from 31.6 gallons in 2013 to 46.4 gallons in 2023. Global Demand: Over 2.2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, boosting demand in Asia-Pacific (44.5% market share) and developing regions. Climate and Urbanization: Water scarcity and urban growth are increasing reliance on bottled water, especially in regions with unreliable tap water. **Major Players in the Market** The bottled water market is competitive, with four major companies holding significant shares and a large "others" category including private labels and regional players. Here’s the breakdown: Nestlé (NSRGY): Estimated 20–25% global market share. Brands include Nestlé Pure Life, Perrier, and San Pellegrino. North America accounts for ~56% of its water sales. Nestlé’s planning to spin off its water business in 2025, which could impact its exposure but create a new investment opportunity. Dividend yield: ~3%. Coca-Cola (KO): Estimated 15–20% share, led by Dasani (12% of still water), Smartwater, and Topo Chico. A defensive stock with a 2.86% dividend yield and a $305 billion market cap, backed by Berkshire Hathaway’s $27.6 billion stake. PepsiCo (PEP): Estimated 10–15% share with Aquafina and LIFEWTR. Water is a smaller part of its portfolio (58% of revenue from snacks), but innovations like carbon capture bottling add upside. Dividend yield: ~3%. Danone (DANOY): Estimated 10–15% share, with premium brands like Evian and Volvic. Strong in Europe and focused on sustainable packaging. Dividend yield: ~3.5%. Others (~35%): Includes private labels (25–30% of the market), Nongfu Spring (China), Bisleri (India), and smaller players like Primo Water. **Investment Pick: Primo Water (PRMW)** For a targeted bet on the bottled water market, Primo Water (PRMW) stands out as a high-growth, pure-play option: Overview: Primo Water is a North American company focused on bottled water and dispensers, with $1.77 billion in 2023 revenue (5% growth) and 20% adjusted EBITDA margins. Why Invest: Unlike diversified giants like Coca-Cola or PepsiCo, Primo is 100% focused on water, making it a direct play on market growth. Its stock price is ~$27 (June 2025), up 50% year-to-date, with analyst targets of $30–$35 by end of 2026. Growth is driven by acquisitions, office reopenings, and demand for reusable water jugs. Catalysts: Rising health consciousness and corporate demand for water coolers are boosting sales. Primo’s focus on sustainability (e.g., reusable containers) aligns with consumer and regulatory trends. Risks: High debt from acquisitions could be a concern if interest rates remain elevated. Private labels (25% market share) are also a competitive threat, but Primo’s brand loyalty and B2B contracts provide stability. **Alternative Investment Options ** Large-Cap Stocks: Coca-Cola (KO) and PepsiCo (PEP) offer stability, dividends, and exposure to water alongside broader portfolios. Coca-Cola’s scale and Buffett’s backing make it a safer bet for conservative investors. Water ETFs: Invesco Water Resources ETF (PHO, 0.60% expense ratio) and First Trust Water ETF (FIW) provide diversified exposure to water-related companies, including purification and delivery. Both have outperformed the S&P 500 over the past decade. Utilities: American Water Works (AWK) is the largest U.S. water utility, with $944 million in 2023 net income and a 2.1% dividend yield. Its stock (~$130) has grown 500% since its 2008 IPO, offering low-risk exposure. Options: For higher risk, PRMW January 2026 $30 calls (~$2.50) offer leverage if the stock hits analyst targets. Coca-Cola or PepsiCo options are less volatile but still provide upside. **Macro Tailwinds for 2025** Population and Urbanization: The global population is nearing 8.5 billion, with 3–4 billion lacking reliable tap water. Urban growth and tourism (1.3 billion international arrivals in 2023) drive bottled water demand. Sustainability Trends: Companies are shifting to recycled PET and aluminum cans (7% CAGR), addressing environmental concerns and appealing to ESG investors. Economic Resilience: Bottled water is a consumer staple, maintaining demand during economic downturns. Stocks like KO and AWK are defensive plays in volatile markets. **Risks to Consider** Environmental Regulations: Bottled water companies face scrutiny for plastic pollution. Potential bans on single-use plastics could raise costs, though firms are adapting with sustainable packaging. Private Label Competition: Store brands hold 25–30% of the market, pressuring margins for branded players. Nestlé’s Spinoff: The potential sale of Nestlé’s water business (~$5.5 billion valuation) could disrupt its market position or create a new stock to watch. Interest Rates: Higher rates could impact debt-heavy companies like Primo Water or utilities like AWK. Conclusion The bottled water market offers a compelling investment opportunity due to its growth, driven by health trends, water scarcity, and sustainability efforts. Primo Water (PRMW) is a high-potential pick for those seeking focused exposure, while Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and ETFs like PHO provide safer options. With the market set to grow significantly by 2030, now’s a good time to consider water-related investments. Disclaimer: no shit this is generated by AI

Yeah, the big brain plays can be so hit and miss. They just teach us humility and why diversifying is important lol. What I’ve learned is healthcare is not my sector. Every time I’ve tried anything health care related, it takes too long to go green or get a nice profit. A few times have been quick profits like the BDX and ZBH recoveries after their earnings. Others are like UNH. I have better luck with financials, tech, utilities, and consumer staples right now. Yesterday’s surge I saw most of my defensive holdings drop a lot so people could make quick tech plays it looked like. So I picked up more RSG, WM, AWK, SO, and DUK. If they go down lower after all the reports we get this week, I’ll buy some more. But I’m expecting a switch back to defensive stocks going up if any of these reports cause investors to become bearish. I personally think today was a bull trap and we will hit a bear market if store shelves start emptying out nation wide.

> Pretty unsexy isn't it Low beta plays like staples and utilities are definitely the play going forward. Recession proof and boring so they don't have wild swings. I'm looking at water treatment companies which have been completely unaffected by all of this market manipulation and also relatively cyclical making good 6 month trades if they continue moving as they do. My targets are WTRG @34-35, AWK @120s, and AWR @71 SJM is also a friggin tank if you can get it in 100-110 range.

XYL and PNR have been performing pretty well for me most recently. AWK hit a high ~190 and has been sitting in the 120-30s for a while. ETFs like FIW might be better for returns as of now. These are long term investments, I don’t swing trade these and they’re not as eye catching as something like nvidia

r/stocksSee Comment

Water is viewed as a commodity resource when it’s really a luxury resource. As climate change accelerates droughts and sea levels rise, clean fresh water becomes more of a rarity. The most recent example of this is the fight between the states with access to the Colorado River—there wasn’t enough water to go around for both the farms and civilians, so they’ve had to ration it. I invested in various types of companies, but it was generally around water infrastructure like pumping and filtration systems. The US also has a very old water infrastructure system that’s in need of repair, so I tried to get in early at companies like XYL, AWK, PNR, and MWA. Those first three are my best performers, but I also started buying into FIW, a water ETF circa 2020-21, early in the pandemic

r/stocksSee Comment

You see OP, I think your case and that period of 4 years are mostly exception at this point. The S&P situation especially. 5 to 10 companies, all in one sector are sucking vast amounts of investments that would otherwise have been spread in the market. At the moment there are lots and lots of companies that underperform, trading at historical discount and at some point this will change. Maybe in 10 years hydrogen will be like the gasoline now, and you would wish you bought APD today and not NVDA. There could be massive water related issues in the years ahead and AWK/AWR to outperform MSFT. The same case can be made in any other field. We are at wired point in time where tech is dragging the entire market up and everything else is pretty much guaranteed to under perform. Yes this can carry on for a long time, but not forever. I'm 100% in single stocks with 35% of them being in EU, and more - I do not own a single tech related stock. I'm under spy for last two years but I'm happy with my picks and I'm confident in the long term prospects. If you manage to remain solvent for longer than the market can remain irrational, you will be rewarded. Best of luck with your strategy - there is no right or wrong approach in this case, but personal choices.

You’re talking like I’ve gotten 20%+ over the last 25+ years on every trade or year. That is certainly not the case as I have lots of losers (my worst position to date that is larger than $10k cost basis is at this moment > -80%). Just happens to be that I’ve benefitted greatly from the last 15-18 years where I just happened to have a bunch of dry powder that I put into the market. AMD @ $2/share, BAC @ $7/share, Netflix @ $50, Apple @ $21 (due to split), etc are just a sample of my positions that have obviously exploded. But like I said, I have plenty of losing/missed trades as well. (Missed the boat on FB/Meta by trading out too early, T is just a bad position to be in, going in BAC instead of JPM, mistimed trade positions of AWK, only broke even on TWIT pre-Elon, got my butt handed to me on some biopharm positions, etc.) My success as a trader has a lot more to do with the fiscal and monetary policies of the government (loose monetary and fiscal policies allowed valuations of companies to soar as well as allowing companies to pick up credit more easily than ever to get out of trouble) than my skill as a trader. As I’ve noted, my only strategy for picks is to go in on businesses that I understand or have faith (however blind) and having a script in the middle of long positions. Have my positions grown a considerable amount from original? Yes. Is it because I’m so skilled as a trader? No. I just happened to have enough dry powder to strike when it makes sense to do so. Do I ever miss on a trade? Sure do! Tons!

So they get excited by the most popular water companies, and end up buying the most boring-ass utility in the world AWK expecting it to go somewhere, only to end up being flat for a year and then selling it. I'm avoiding VZ and T because I think they're getting beaten by TMUS right now. I do see the appeal with their dividends right now, it's just not for me personally. I generally feel the same about utilities but one that is growing is intreaguing. It'll be harder to grow with higher rates, but AWK has been trading over 30x earnings lately, which is not cheap. Now its into the 20s. More fairly priced.

I'm not anti dividend, I just won't buy something because of the dividend. For AWK the company has been growing 8-10% annually so you should get capital appreciation for the stock. They're basically a serial acquirer of small utilities. I'm not sure how rapidly they grow the dividend.

Water stocks seem to trade at high multiples all the time. AWK is 30x or more. FELE is one on my watchlist as a play. They have a lot of different water businesses, but it's only about a $4 billion company. Not outrageously priced yet.

What do you mean by water management? Just google whatever your specific answer is and add “publicly traded stock” to it. I did that and I came up with a good number of companies already. AWK, YORW, PRMW

I once bought shares of AWK because my Mom always said 'Awk" when I said or did something stupid. When I looked at my stock screen it made me think of her.

CVS. Trading around 8x next year's earnings. I e been questioning their last acquisitions, but is gotten so cheap now. Once this shows signs of bottoming, I'll add more. AWK. A water utility that grows 8-9% annually, plus a dividend. Very defensive, but a little pricey still. DAR. Getting drilled because of the fall in energy companies, but I don't see refinery demand, especially Diesel demand dropping soon. Thinking of adding more. Currently around 11x last year's earnings, with double digit growth forecast. Thinking of adding. USLM- well run limestone producer trading under 10x EV/EBITDA. (they have a ton of cash on hand and no debt). Nice play on construction in the south.

NEE is a utility, trading at 35x earnings and maybe eeking out 10% growth a year. AWK, the water utility is trading at 31x with similar growth. You're paying a slight premium to own a "green" company. I'm not saying it's a bad investment, but it's not some exciting growth story. That's my opinion at least.

The more sensible stocks to invest if you are a contrarian is getting into jail stocks. Government depends more and more on contractors to run jail or detention as existing ones are fully packed. Water purification and waste treatment are also popular. AWK is one example. I have not checked trash hauling service like waste management stocks. In the past, I was profitable on all mentioned.
