We are at a point where a tactical EMP could wipe out the entire electrical grid of the Eastern Seaboard, and the remaining backup servers in Chicago would immediately interpret the sudden drop in trading volume as exhaustion of selling pressure, instantly gapping the Nasdaq up 500 points in pre-market.
Pretty wild that we’re actually living in the intro for Homefront now. I sure hope the DPRK doesn’t have an EMP satellite ready to launch…
I don't follow this topic at all just thoughts not validated by AI. Didn't they strike ukraine like last week with a pricy missle that basically comes top down from space and is hard to intercept? I guess they still have people capable to make it blow up in space with nuclear load instead of conventional one, in space it doesn’t need to be accurate, just needs to get there and trigger. I guess they could use a plane as a lift, basically a platform for a lunch, and fire a missle from a plane. Get to maximum hight and fire it up. SpaceX satellites fly on the lower orbit and maybe EMP, blast could damage them. In my mind if they wanted to do it they are capable. We got a man to the moon and back. Orcs have a much simpler job.
Why would this be the peak? Is the world getting EMP’d tomorrow?
The OpenAI and Anthropic IPOs at the end of this year could potentially be a trigger. They will need to open up their books and show their cards. I'm going to guess that investors won't be overly impressed and may actually be appalled, especially in the case of OpenAI. The AI LLM leaders also have yet to prove that they can monetize this incredible technology or explain to investors their plan for ultimately becoming profitable. The capex numbers are insane and the profits have yet to catch up and maybe they never will. The United States simply doesn't produce enough energy to power all the data centers that are planned in addition to the normal base load. It's not that energy will get more expensive, although it obviously will. It's that the energy pie isn't big enough. Are you going to live in the dark so OpenAI can train its next LLM? An EMP from a massive solar flare could fry everything, rendering data centers temporarily useless. This one is a joke (sort of), but the point is it's usually not predictable things that change the calculus. Chances are all these problems will eventually be solved and AI will become ingrained in our everyday life the way automobiles, computers, and the internet did. However, there will almost certainly be massive bumps along the way, the current "winners" may go out of business, and companies you've never heard of will ultimately be the big winners.
It's like worrying about the electric grid collapsing from an EMP. Can it happen? Yes, but you far more likely to have things keep going on business as usual. If global disruption happens, everything is going to get affected. Not much you can do except build a hole in your back yard and climb in it. As an aside, I think that China will eventually take of Taiwan, Xi even says by 2049 himself. The Taiwanese people lack the will to fight and take it seriously. The race is for US semi conductors to come online. TSM is stonewalling with their N-2 policy.
Papa Musk says the most entertaining outcome is always the most likely…. If thats true, i’m looking forward to witnessing the solar flare EMP that turns anything utilizing Semi’s and RAM into worthless fucking bricks. Maybe we could manage a small pull back that day.
I don't work, I'm retired since like I was 20, hopefuly one day Sun's EMP will fry all electronics, it would've been glorious.
A mini EMP is just a radar jammer, and a really concentrated well behaved EMP is just a laser lol
I refer to analyst calls to appeal the efficient markets hypothesis. I agree they are not very useful and I put them in the same category as technical analysis. But many who disagree with me on this are going to do so by appealing to the EMP, which is why I mention it.
If EMP’s were real I think we would see one by now
Datsun/Nissan Z cars. They all honestly will only continue to go up in value, especially as gasoline engines are phased out. The older, carbureted ones can theoretically survive an EMP if some protective measures are put into place beforehand. They're also the single most fun/lively car you'll ever drive. The enthusiast community is growing every day, with some thanks to the new Nissan Z. There's a surprising number of 240z's popping up in garages and barns as their original owners pass away or age beyond the ability to drive it. If I had the space, I would definitely have more than one. I don't know that I'd reap the benefits of the investments, though - more than likely that would end up a generational thing.
I was gonna say card & board games. Some like magic & Pokémon have after market value (opened or not) which work for investing while everything is up & running (& they’re still hot & don’t fall into beanie baby territory). But in a zombie/depression/EMP situation people still need to be entertained &/or keep their kids occupied for a time. And you having one of the last means of offline non-electric entertainment (with some variety not just the single pack of cards) could be profitable!
At this point we could see “Wall Street hit by EMP. Stock market totally wiped out. Money no longer relevant. Spy + 5%”
With the ever growing demand for electronics I don't see it happening anytime soon tbh. Maybe if some weird aliens invade us and EMP the whole earth then you might strike it rich but idk.
Seriously tho, anyone got plans for a DIY EMP?
could be an EMP without destroying anything
\- **nukes aren´t reasonable** shut the fuck up about them \- however, them **not being reasonable directly puts them on the table** \- if we thinking nukes, an intermediate approach is a **high altitude nuke just for EMP effect**, destroys nothing physically, but fucks up all electricity and creates huge shock \- they probably have non nuckear alternatives to simliar attack, or a somewhat sophisticated nuclear device that **they can say "it´s not a nuke",** whith same effect \- ummmm, believe it or not, CALLS
Your car probably won't work. EMP strikes to max out the chaos.
Better hope there isn't an EMP blast.
EMP takes out all our electronics, everyone meet at the nearest Wendy’s
The EMP generated by nukes will render most computers inoperable. If that is your scenario, buy precious metals or gemstones.
Hear me out... a hurricane is just a large amount of energy going round and round in one place right, and nukes well they emit an EMP that kills all energy, so we nuke the hurricane to kill off it's energy source and then the explosion spreads the dead hurricane all out over the place so it can't even get idea about starting again. It's simple physics.
Red means the insiders know about a ground invasion or EMP usage.
Maybe, but not an ideal solution baby. A smart terrorist-dork would then launch a few drones in first wave, have them taken out with the EMP defense, which also takes out your own needed countermeasures such as cameras, motion detectors, etc, and leaves you more vulnerable than before to additional drone waves or even more conventional attacks.
An well targeted EMP could take out all electronic devices in pretty wide radius. That's probably the route I would take if I were in the position.
No one can answer a person's risk tolerance. You should always have a diversified portfolio. I would definitely lean heavier into tech because of this (40%) spread out. If your not in tech, then you will miss the opportunity for big gains. However, no one should be 100% into tech because like I said, we will have winners and losers. If you need to go 100%, then do QQQ or something like that instead of individual companies. It's too early to pick winners and losers with the exception of the MAG7. The difference now is their balance sheets are ridiculous compared to dot com. Let's put this into perspective. CISCO who was the leader of the dot come at it's peak had a market cap of 500 billion and earned 4 billion in Net Income a year with about 4 billion in cash on it's balance sheet at peak. NVDA has 60 billion in cash with a 4.5 Trillion Market Cap. It could literally fail multiple generations and recover. NVDA had 70+ Billion in Net Income in 2025. The numbers are mind blowing. TLDR: Buy tech but don't try to pick winners. If you have to pick a winner, go MAG 7 route. Either way, increase leverage to tech with a balanced portfolio. Literally everything in the world uses some sort of tech and tech will only get bigger, better and faster. Unless we get hit with an EMP, lol.

Someone drop an EMP and gey it over with
BRB, buying calls on EMP's...
Bers just got hit with an EMP and will be defenseless against full scale Shrek dickening
why shit corn green....lol they could just EMP the middle east and fry all the electric..game over
I think you are quoting results for BPL-3. The EMP-1 is a different drug. Emp = oral, treats social anxiety and depression. It is in phase 2 ( earlier than bpl3) and is performing as expected. This is a therapy-assisted treatment where drug has all the good feels from mdma, but none of the visuals. BPL3-nasal spray, phase 2b, fastracked by FDA. Patient takes this in a supervised setting (dr. Office). Patient experiences a full traditional mdma psychedelic event for 1 to 2 hours. No therapy. Treatment protocol is similar to Ketamine. BPL3 is the headliner because it fits well with existing treatment protocols. The medical community is struggling to define medication-assisted therapy best practices. Someone taking mdma cranks up the neuroplastidity and then hands the reprogramming off to a therapist that has no special training and limited experience. That is a hard pass for me. Getting EMP-1 to mainstream use and profitable is like hiking the PCT compared to BPL-3 which is more like running a marathon.
The only real, non Hollywood EMP of any utility is a nuke. And if nukes are flying, your corn is $0 anyway.
lol crypto bros in Dubai...guess what when electric gone...your coin aint worth a shit..and one EMP will erase all your cold wallets and drives
It would be real funni to see an EMP go off in iran.
EMP generators need to become easy to make, and sold.
This is gonna go sideways in less than 18 months and the only way to stop it will be an EMP.
Thanks for the tip. Although, EMP-01 has shown comparable symptom reductions in a shorter treatment window (6 weeks vs 8-12 weeks) with two doses vs a daily therapy. Not working in the field, but it still sounds superior.
Dump is because of this sentence, "The company also highlighted that symptom reductions observed after two doses over six weeks were comparable in cross-trial comparisons to outcomes typically reported after 8 to 12 weeks of daily SSRI or SNRI therapy." Comparable to current standard therapy (Zoloft) is not great news. One of the dirty secrets of anxiety and depression medication is that new drugs can get approval from the FDA if the efficacy is at least as effective as currently available drugs. So instead of being a better drug, EMP-01 enters a crowded SSRI and SNRI field as an alternative to the entrenched medication. Doctors are generally conservative in prescribing medication. If they have to choose between Paxil which has 35 years of treatment history and EMP-01 which has no history and is associated with one of the most popular illegal drugs in the last 50 years, doctors are going to go with Paxil. I can't tell if that sentence is from the company or the reporter, but this study was not looking at efficacy. Throwing that sentence in was super irresponsible. As someone else pointed out, this study had no concurrent therapeutic modalities which are baked into the SSRI/SNRI efficacy numbers. Ideally, EMP-01 will show far better efficacy than SSRI/SNRIs. Absent efficacy improvement, fewer side effects, shorter half-life, or lower addictive properties could also give EMP-01 an advantage. However, for EMP-01 to be a homerun, efficacy needs to be double digits higher than SSRI/SNRI.
ATAI will moon today, encouraging result of EMP-01
..and Claude gets assassinated. Big Pharma detonates the EMP.
I don't see anyone building iPhones with Bitcoin traces or anyone wearing Bitcoin coated jewelry. A tangible asset will always be more stable than an intangible asset for the very fact that it will always exist in perpetuity, which you cannot say for Bitcoin or stocks. If a global EMP goes off, gold and houses will still be around.
Wonder if they will test their secret weapon on a bigger target this time, EMP across Iran would be juicy
They have purpose! Like in the event of a world wide electrical outage or EMP attack you can uhhh.. trade them as IOUs for phantom bread and milk.
Does the Optimus Robot come with a mini EMP bomb for when it malfunctions or is over rode by a bad actor?
Start building your micro EMP devices yesterday
This is inaccurate, there won’t need to be a circuit breaker with multiple EMP pulses being released globally
If the apocalypse hits, better to barter with seeds, sugar, and drive a mil spec 1008 or 1009. It will run even after exposure to EMP.
Can't drones be taken out by EMP blasts or Phalanx CIWS?
I like to smoke a joint and put some music on. Then I find some medial task or hobby that I can do while my mind wanders on to what the future will look like in 10 years. I try to think of what industry will be huge. Things that haven't already "popped off" like AI for example. In fact using the big winners of today can help predict what the winners of the future will be. What will be huge if AI succeeds? Personal EMP protective suit perhaps? Or maybe that little Antimony company in a geographically strategic location? And if AI fails? We'll shit maybe Ford motor company makes a comeback and we all have to take our asses back on the freeway. This is just an example of a brainstorm, have a pen and paper and write down some of these ideas.... Personal emp protective suit into googs, see if it exists or if anyone already makes something like that. Can I invest in that company? Manage risk and monitor debt/dilution/PRs By doing this I got onto rklb july/Aug 2024 around 5$ and at one point held 19 jan15'25 8$ call contracts for about 2500$ down...I sold at 7500$ and bitched out. Clearly I'm a rookie but the method is pure and my conviction in my picks grows stronger...conviction is easier to have when risk is managed. Currently buying GANX. Cheers
I mean you're screwed even if you have a car that's uneffected by the EMP. Other cars might crash right into you because they still have momentum and the driver can't control them anymore. Plus you wouldn't be able to drive anywhere with so many dead cars clogging the road.
They may or may not be viable. But we do have solar coronas that already disrupt communications and electricity at tiny levels. A big corona event would be very disruptive. But really we don’t need sci fi or naturally events to screw us. What’s more likely is a server/network problem that knocks everyone offline. We’ve already had them, including this year. People freak out very fast when their bank site doesn’t come up. With cloud convergence on an ever-shrinking number of profit-above-performance megacorps, each run by people who can’t kneel to fascistic impulses fast enough, we’ll have the effects of EMP without there needing to be an EMP.
They do exist and the US has them in their arsenal but they are wildly different from what most people think. They are either non kinetic, like anti-drone and missile microwave weapons, or have a very low range and can be attached to cruise missiles or launched from fighters to disable enemy electronics in a relatively small area. But yes EMP weapons that can wipeout an entire city worth of electronics are pure sci-fi as of now.
EMP usually means a nuclear bomb is coming soon after
if a city gets hit by EMP i think there are bigger problems than Waymo not working (and our cars' computer system may go haywire as well). Maybe we need to build shield batteries in every block...
Will spike at 1 billion per share as the first EMP shockwave hits the Bloomberg terminals
Unless an EMP happens, META has a foot in the race. You’re just wrong. This isn’t bitcoin an unstable currency that will never be able to used in a productive economy.
Aha, that's where you are wrong! I had the immense foresight the keep my ripped dvd collection from the mid 2000s and put one of those tiny TVs with a built in dvd player into a faraday cage, so it survived the EMP. For the price of just 3 molerats you may enter the cinema cave. This week we are showing Jarhead and Revenge of the Sith.
I used to think that the greed of the capital owners would not allow them to cede power to autonomous systems. Most people that would go doomer about AI worried about AI takeover apocalypse(s), but I often pointed out that any human accessible kill switches act as yokes on a slave (or oxen if you're squeamish). If you can go to the power plant powering the AI and pull a lever to kill the station, then you can just shut the AI off, crisis averted. Unless an AI has control of the entire supply chain, logistics, and replication and repair, it essentially enslaved by us, who do control those things. So I always figured that unlimited greed and lust for power meant that there will always be layers of yokes on AI's, in the form of any number of control mechanisms, including emergency EMP blasts, maintaining control of replication and supply chains etc. But now I can't help but think that this unlimited lust for more is going to lead them to release every yoke available because their greed outweighs their ability to understand the quantity of risk for what they're releasing.
That's depressing. I've gotten lazy about using cash lately, but isn't cash a foundational lube for the whole system? I guess if you're a mega-institution nothing matters; the world is mere material for your black hole self, and you could eat your arm and not feel anything, because everyone else will always remain food too. I'm not even thinking of theoretical things like an EMP or global internet outage (wait a minute...), but if you ACTUALLY remove all cash flow, doesn't that result in a fully crystalized system, with no buffer? I mean, without cash (setting aside the good faith of the empire for a moment), all money IS social credit. It can't physically be anything else besides... Bitcoin was "supposed" to allow it to be something other than social credit, but even if it was workable at scale, the amount of extra Layers required to even begin that is silly.
Sure, but have you considered the possibility of alien satellites that emits a massive EMP blast every hour?
Are NVDA chips EMP proof?
My truck will survive an EMP. I’ll be the one collecting data someday.
Annnnd it says nothing about an EMP
China just EMP’d two US aircraft
Forget EMP, something similar to Carrington Event will destroy powergrids for years and fake internet currency with it.
Because one can survive an EMP and the other can't
China can EMP my Btc, not my Gold LOL
One EMP and every modern warfare technology is out of action lol
Ok well the only rational counter to that is spamming emp weapons, calls on EMP companies
Giant solar EMP event may be next black swan especially for crypto
A literal EMP could be dropped on America and SPY would launch to a $1000 a share
At this point, a literal EMP could be dropped from space and detonated on America, and a year later, when power is restored, SPY would gap open at $1000 a share.
A literal EMP could be detonated on America, and a year later when power is finally restored, SPY would gap up to $1000 a share.
So an easy EMP target? Gang busters.
Anything that disrupts power generation en-mass to the point where it can't be wasted on stupid shit anymore. Meteor EMP is plausible. Other things would survive and come back but crypto definitely might not because it's permanently-disruptable. The only thing keeping it going is the current speculative nature. A big enough disruption could kill it for good.
AeroVironment (S&P small cap 600, etc..) has made the Switchblade man-portable drone since 2011. It’s a known company but you can trace its stock. Many smaller combat drones are simply commercial cargo drones sent on a one way ticket with explosives and now AI attached, though some are becoming remote controlled mini attack aircraft. Thinking any steady company that makes capable cargo drones .. and maybe a future ETF made of these will get it as a side bennie. The big guys? Knowing something about weapons systems they’ll probably have to be additionally ruggedized against EMP, etc .. in an engineering lab to qualify with military standards = so probably the existing big defense contractors in the future.
Beyond wanting to reestablish an empire, Russians are paranoid as fuck about being invaded. The lengths the Soviet Union went to make themselves impossible to conquer are hard for westerners to imagine. They were refurbishing WW2 bolt action rifles and stashing them in caves through the 70s. They even stashed old coal fired locomotives on special side rail lines all over the country to use as backups in case of an EMP blast from nukes. After losing 30 million people in WW2, it’s understandable to a certain extent but Putins gents really the last one raised by folks impacted by the war. They want to have a buffer between them and the west. It’s not all just propaganda unfortunately.
I just don't understand it in general its not real money so it should be completely worthless in my opinion and would rather see an EMP bomb take it all out
Ya everything you said is correct. It's also a currency that's dependent on electricity and internet to be receivable or spendable, so if there's ever a major grid problem, EMP, global natural disaster, war, etc. that takes out infrastructure, it becomes inaccessible. It's also too complicated for non-techy people to use, like most of our grandmothers couldn't use it safely. Overall it's just a big pyramid scheme.
how so? "cbdc? that's programmable surveillance" -- bitcoin is open-source, consensus driven "fiat? infinite money printing, debt slavery, asset inflation" -- bitcoin can't be printed, you can't create debt out of thin air to fund your government, bitcoin is an asset itself "gold? centralized, hard to verify, easy to seize" -- bitcoin is decentralized, easy to verify, hard to sieze and there's other advantages, e.g. use nukes and EMP shocks to destroy 99% of the bitcoin network, and it will just keep chugging along as before; use the same on banks, well...
Gold is way overpriced as well, but at least is a physical asset that has value in multiple markets (jewelry, electronics, etc). I’m personally not interested in owning “assets” that are only 1s and 0s on some cloud storage system—there’s nothing to inherently give it a value floor. Plus, Bitcoin could all disappear with one big solar storm or EMP attack.
One EMP and they all roll over
You can take 500 1-oz silver rounds into a local coin shop and leave with $18,000 and no paperwork needed. Not saying that you don’t have to pay taxes, but it’s a lot less documentation than selling an ETF. If planning to keep 6 months of spendable cash on hand for emergencies, dollars are great but precious metals usually do better against inflation. So for long term, they’re better than mattress money. Preparedness for the zombie apocalypse and/or EMP detonation is kind of less likely but an added bonus, I guess.
If society breaks down, it.can be physically carried and traded. Melted down into smaller quantities if needed. It would survive a EMP.
Power just went out in my neighborhood, must be an EMP idk
Does Israel or Iran have an EMP bomb? Seems like it would render defensive measures mostly usless.
I keep my Nintendo Switch and gameboy color in a Faraday Cage in case of an EMP strike
We should stop it, we have become too good at war that this is a complete waste of money. It would be largely space based and would shift the center of gravity (aka our Achilles heel) of our military to space. So now the majority of our comms, GPS, over-the-horizon missile defense, and a huge chunk of our GDP is space dependent, that is basically begging for near peer rival to drop a nuke in space and EMP everything. Especially if that country had: 1. A moon base to have their space based comms fall back to after all the satellites fell to the earth 2. Didn’t have a large international presence that required a space communication system And 3. Only had to defend a continuous continent upon which you could have reliable optical cables to maintain communications. It is useless against any sub-state organization and any near-peer would easily bring it down.
As in things had value because they were actually backed by somrthing. Also the fake selling point of BTC is being WW3 proof. It's 100% dependant on controlled infrastructure, ISP, electricity, hardware. No computers, no electricity, EMP, ISP ban etc. it exists because it is allowed to exist
Brilliant Pebbles operate in LEO (ICBMs, let alone smaller IRBMs etc, never get close to GSO, which is more expensive to get to anyways). The idea is that you have enough of them in periodic orbits that in any given window you can intercept all enemy missiles. This isn't actually as crazy as it sounds. It was probably technically feasible [but ludicrously expensive] in the 1990s, but SpaceX's Starlink is already near the size of most proposed Brilliant Pebbles schemes and operates in a similar orbital regime. We've also conducted successful exoatmospheric intercepts of IRBMs using ground-based missiles, which is actually a significantly more difficult task. The main problems remaining are sensors [networking is largely taken care of with the evolution of comm lasers] for guidance onto target, and hardening against nuclear EMP and radiation "noise". There's also more exotic schemes, including for stealth UAVs with minaturized YAL-1 style lasers to burn through ballistic missiles in the boost stage [with the idea being that they're constantly orbiting places like North Korea], and for direct energy weapons, and of course old standbys like nuclear-tipped interceptor rockets, but the Brilliant Pebbles themselves are pretty feasible.
When the EU no longer gives a shit about what the USA wants because of tariffs, they won't ban the sale of ASML systems to SMIC (not to be confused with SMCI Supermicro) and the EUV tech will get them down to 2-3nm overnight. Sure, heavily subsidized by the Chinese government...but whatev...the end result is breaking TSMC's stranglehold on the highest grade silicon fab. The chip designs in China are meh - copies/extensions of existing ARM/x86 tech...they even straight up steal the licensing off ARM. But...if the tariffs, and service cuts in the USA are to continue the science and engineering brain-drain will happen. Whether to the EU or Asian under China's influence doesn't matter. Cock-blocking China on chip exports ...meh, it's strategic, not a long term solution. Drone AI that can aim-bot your head from 50yrds for <$1000/drone already exists - thank MIT drone labs 10yrs ago. Drop them out of a plane with GPS grid for them to kill all the people not carrying a red arm-band or IR flash on their helmet....easy mode. How many can you deploy? China can build them faster. They'll all be susceptible to EMP so...meh it's not much different than a WMD war anyway. Ukraine is using radio remotes ...it's stone-age compared to what is coming. The tech for an ai drone is already used in those AI cameras that read license plate tech and identify persons for home surveillance that's not an NVDA gpu export. Training tech is, but that's already out there.
A dome would have to protect the ground up to 3mi high for there to be no physical damage. There would still be damage to electronics from EMP waves. A golden dome would have to be in space even though space starts at about 60mi
Moscow’s a smoking hole? SPY +0.3% London evaporates? Gold flat, Bitcoin +12% Taiwan Strait turns into an EMP soup? TSMC up on “supply squeeze” narrative. Nuclear apocalypse? Buy the crater.
When will bears realize that a literal EMP could be dropped on this country, taking out the entire power system, and price would still pump to a million dollars a share. THE MARKET DEFIES THE LAWS OF NATURE.
