absolutely, the tanker angle is super interesting right now. with all the tension in the strait of hormuz, it’s like a perfect storm for NAT. more ships avoiding the route means higher freight rates and they’re in a good spot to capitalize. plus, that volume spike shows there's serious interest. if oil keeps moving and tanker rates pop, those $5.5 calls could really pay off. what’s your exit strategy looking like?

Thoughts on NAT in regard to historic highs in freighter futures?

Mentions:#NAT
r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

Bought $5.5 Mar 20 calls on Nordic American Tankers (NAT) Suezmax freight rates (TD20) appear to have jumped from $90k/day to approx $120k which is about a 30% increase. Because NAT operates mostly spot Suezmax tankers, its earnings are highly leveraged to these rates. If rates hold these levels, the market may start pricing higher earnings, which could push NAT from around $5.6 toward $6.5–7 My trade: 150 options at 25 cents a piece what do you think? anyone trading / has previously traded tanker stocks?

Look up NAT. That’s a big part of the reason IPv6 has been replacing IPv4 within 5 years since 1995. How do you think we’ve managed to bring >30B devices online with an address space of 4B? Each one of those 4B addresses can support like 500 customers with how they’re configured nowadays.

Mentions:#NAT
r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

Yes, very much have heard of it. (And i want it too) But the reality is that it'll take *years* before it's any reliable and then another many *years* before people stop needing IPv4 addresses. And no, CG-NAT is no solution either. Servers still need real addresses and you can only have so many end-users on it... For the foreseeable future, IPv4 will be a necessity. (And therefore, a scarce resource with limited supply, giving it value and making it tradable)

Mentions:#NAT#CCL

The constraint might be the kinds of tankers that they own, which are better suited to transporting refined oil. Venezuela mostly exports heavy crude and their refineries are currently unable to transport it. Larger tankers would be needed (NAT is likely to benefit most but it has a very large float) to transport the crude to the US. I'm watching RBNE for the hype but a bit skeptical about the event translating into anything more than higher shipping rates for the company. We'll see (it would be fantastic if it actually surged!)

If you're interested, I can write a book about failed initiatives from Ericssson. They bought Redback which didn't even had L2 support and tried to take up the fight with Cisco. They bought BelAir (MSO stand-mounted APs without enterprise features) to get into the enterprise. They developed a pico RBS for enterprises that couldn't support NAT. They developed mmW radios noone is using. They came up with many of the 5G myths that never materialized. Other massive failures are their private 5G stuff, the entire IoT track, the acquisition of Vonage etc etc. Much of this discontinued. Oh, don't forget the cloud track where they tried to compete with AWS and Microsoft with a toy. Or when they were trying to sell integrated WiFi without a business case and with an architecture of nodes that made Ruckus and Cisco laugh their asses off. 🤣 Ericsson is world class with radio, that's their entire core. They develop world-class basebands, radio units and antenna systems. That position means they often influence operators. Verizons bet on mmW was a direct effect of that for example. But they are horribly bad at acquisitions and anything else than radio. I have zero trust in that they are able to predict how consumers will use networks 10 years from now or what kind of devices will be around then. You better ask someone like Apple or Google. Ericsson will of course oush for mmW/cmW radios and try to make operators deploy such networks. Just as they did with Verizon.

O pays a monthly dividend and has increased for like 25 plus years, ARCC is pretty much the top BDC company out there and pays like $0.48 dividend like 8% , and SCHD is like the top dividend growth ETF if your wanting dividends look at these, cuz I did like quick math for SELF and to hold 100 shares is going to cost like $536 with a $0.073 dividend so it pays about $7 a quarter you’ll get maybe 4/5 shares extra per year but $536 into ARCC @ $22.50 is about 23.7 shares with a $0.48 divided that’s $11.37 per quarter and in O for the same price you’ll get 9.4 shares that pay a monthly dividend of $0.269 so about $2.42 x 12=$29.05 but it’s a top REIT you may want to look into them but SELF doesn’t seem bad for like extra cash maybe also look in NAT

At a certain point people get so fuq they commission charter ships to just sit in a port with a boat load of oil, so they can sell it in the following months. its like house flipping, or drop shipping, but like for oil ( there's a chance it could happen again, maybe? like its a hail mary get rich or die trying sorta thing )

As an actual cloud engineer: it depends. Azure, AWS, GCP already have large regions of data centers outside of the United States. In the shared responsibility model of the cloud, it's up to the tenants, not the cloud providers, to decide where their data is stored and processed. These companies provide a platform to use, and it's up to the customers to decide how to use the platform. There are extremely prohibitive costs in cross region data transfer rates that all cloud providers charge that disincentives building cross-region applications if you don't need it. This is true of most applications hosted in the cloud, but not the biggest applications hosted in the cloud. Cloud providers would need to change their fee structure for cross-region and perhaps even incentives this for this to work out for them and frankly I don't see that happening. So, the current situation is you have a lot of data already warehoused in the US, and companies are not going to move it unless the benefit of moving it far outweighs the labor cost and time and inconvenience of moving it, and to be clear there is zero benefit today. Furthermore cloud providers already condition companies to look at their cloud bill and loath costs like NAT Gateway charges and cross region data transfer. So it's ultimately a matter of will fee structures for network traffic change so that there are cost benefits for tenants to move their workload out of the US. And even then, most applications really don't like the latency that running your compute in another country incurs, and you can't change the speed of light. And even even then, data privacy laws and financial regulations complicates moving data between any jurisdiction these days, especially to and from the EU.

I don't know a lot about networking. I thought NAT is fine for most tasks, but it's cumbersome for some things. The designers of ipv4 never realized that our phones, computers, light bulbs, game consoles, TVs, and thermostats would all need addresses. Most are fine with NAT (and it might be more secure, I've heard differing opinions on that), but some stuff like having multiple game consoles on the same router can mess with NAT. Do you even need a home router with IPV6? I don't know enough about networking to say. An Internet gateway is given a range of addresses in IPV6, right? So each device on the gateway can have its own publicly-facing address if it needs it, like game consoles and home servers. Plus, now there's juniper and Ubiquiti and pfSense filling in the gaps. Anyways, my belief in Cisco performance shows why I don't invest in individual companies in sectors I don't understand!
