I would be surprised if the US didn't just lie about it and say it was a non military use and then use it in military uses anyway. Unless they're going to prevent exports of certain minerals altogether. Believe it or not, the titanium that was used to make the SR-71 came from the Soviet Union fenced through various shell companies and third countries via the CIA (they said they needed it for pizza ovens).

Mentions:#SR#CIA

My bet is that the Automakers will have to "give" a portion of these to the MIL. Thinking of... Titanium was crucial for the SR-71: The SR-71 was designed to fly at incredibly high speeds and altitudes, which created immense heat on the aircraft's structure. Titanium was the only material strong and heat-resistant enough to withstand these conditions. Limited U.S. supply: At the time of the SR-71's development, the United States had limited access to the specific type of titanium ore needed for the aircraft's construction. Soviet Union was a major supplier: The Soviet Union, the primary target of the SR-71's reconnaissance missions, happened to be a major source of this titanium ore.

I tested a Model 3 (SR, LR, Performance) and a BYD Seal (Excellence). The Tesla is by no means perfect, but so much better, it wasn’t even funny. Teslas biggest issue are shitty auto wipers, an ancient Autopilot version in Europe and the lack of a drivers display/HUD. Besides that it’s a solid car and the ones we get in Germany are also well built (unlike the US made Teslas). The BYD had multiple drivetrain issues during the drive, it has no route planning, the navigation is awful, the German translation is embarrassing, the suspension made scary noises, the suspension was also way too hard and bumpy, the leatherette had a bad smell, the audio system (dynaudio) was awful and it didn’t drive good because they put a multiple second delay on the accelerator. Add to that the unusable traffic sign recognition (that would constantly beep at you) and the steering assist that drove like a drunk person at best and couldn’t even hold lanes on the Autobahn … There’s still leagues between these cars, most of the „BYD propaganda“ is spread by Us citizens who never even sat inside one of them. Where BYD shines is the typical unfair Chinese penetration pricing. They’re pushing they’re cheapest model with insane discounts, we’re at like 19.900 € atm. That is very very cheap.

I'd consider this market environment the most analog to 2008 and the covid sell-off. The reason I mention backtesting is to determine if you would fare better buying ITM, ATM, or OTM options using with your particular strategy I do have some concerns with backtesting as a be all end all. Other than holding real paper is harder than holding paper paper one of the most notable is you might not have been filled on great trades while getting than your fill for crappy trades. I've run some backtests with a strategy that lost bigly. Reverse it and it loses even more. > I think the downside risk is great. Similar dealio with titanium. Many countries have titanium containing minerals. Few mine a substantial amount, even fewer actually produce metal. Really it's just China producing ~50% of the world's titanium and Japan producing ~25%. You'd think after the CIA had to buy titanium from the Soviets through shell companies to build the SR-71 during the cold war the US would have developed some reasonable level of domestic titanium production. Apparently not.

The Bloomberg report used Apple’s press doc from 2023 then multiplied it by the customary 10 to get the amount of people supporting the supply chain. Without those supply jobs, their jobs wouldn’t exist. So, a Canadian mill might only employ 1000 people, but the area around it supports 10000 jobs; teachers, grocery stores, healthcare etc. Hope that helps! https://www.apple.com/au/supplier-responsibility/pdf/Apple_SR_2023_Progress_Report.pdf

You are taking out of your ass. I'm guessing you watched a documentary about the SR-71 one time and think what was true for a single type in the 70s still applies today. China produced 4x the titanium than Russia does, and had the world's largest known reserves.  Russia stopped being a preferred source 30 years ago. Jfc.

We also just don't have the raw materials to make everything. Canada is a giant forest with lumber ideal for home building. We don't have what they have in abundance. We buy oil from them because we get it at 20% below market rate because they can't hit the global market with it. We don't have precious metals and rare earth minerals we need. We don't have titanium in great quantity. Hilariously, to produce the SR71 spy plane the CIA had to set up dozens of shell companies to buy it from Russia. A great example of effective tariffs was motorcycles. Didn't want Kawasaki to bankrupt to destroy Harley. We didn't tariff the entire imports of Japan. The point is to keep another country from tanking one of your markets, which to me I'm not currently aware of other than maybe some shit with China. But then again, they could make up for a good amount of it in another market like soy. Our trade imbalance where it exists keeps everyone on the dollar. Not to mention basic capitalism says we like buying other stuff. Unless you're trying to prevent reliance on an important and required resource (like oil in the hands of dictators in the 60-80s) then this is all futile and will turn trade partners to someone else. Good luck unfucking that without severely undercutting prices, assuming anyone trusts us after this.

Different dude here, I don't have a ton of knowledge, but I am a private pilot and used to be a line tech. Archer is claiming to have their Midnight aircraft fully certified by 2025, but that seems insane to me. Especially when something like the Vision took a decade to certify. But, they are planning on starting operations in Japan and the UAE so I'm pretty bullish despite my concerns over remaining FAA hurdles They do have their part 135 already approved, which I believe includes pilot certifications.. I'm pretty sure that means they have pilots ready for work. I'm not 100% sure so correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not super familiar with part 135, but back when I worked for an FBO/school we tried getting our 135 for a small charter using SR-22Ts, and I remember that included a few check rides with the pilot we wanted to actually work those flights. I say we like I did anything more than refuel their planes back then lol. I'm super curious how you think these craft will change existing traffic patterns. Imo they'll operate similar to helicopters, but honestly I have no idea

Like others have said, find a challenge and be a bit more conservative. You don’t know me from some other shit talker and may never see this, but this is the advice I’d give a friend and have given to family. * investments: 50-60% in a good index fund. Doesn’t matter if it is SPY (measure the dividends being disbursed as part of your return), VTI or QQQ. This is your long term plan. You’re young and even though I think a market correction is coming, this is your foundation. 2-3 good companies (solid large cap like MSFT or AAPL) that you believe in. Then 10-15% in good FU money you don’t mind losing like GME, keeps life interesting. And cash. * finances. Low interest CCs and don’t buy a new car unless you can pay cash. financing anything that is not a non-recourse is stupid, so finance a house and thats it. if youre buying a plane, SR22 but pay cash. * fields. AI is hot but dont feel you need to invest. get the skills (cuz you are probably into computers) in areas like Python (3 books out there from oreilly, one thick and two on LLM). I talked to MSFT yesterday and the Gemini folks on Monday. today I am talking to Meta. Everyone is investing heavily into this area, and I know two startups in the Sand Hill (Palo Alto VC world) who are trying from a workers/hr area, and stock investment going through things like 10Ks * personal: fix your own shit. Nothing feels as good as doing something with your hands and either saving yourself $$$ or making yourself better (eg fitness). Paint a wall, change your toilet seat, rotate your tires, build a cat house, climb a hill. do something with your hands and feet. * travel. it is a big world out there and youll meet all kinds of people, seeing how well you have it compared to them. puts things into perspective. got back from Turkey (Haggia Sophia) as a tourist two weekd back and you learn to see what they appreciate vs what BS we think is important here. You don't know me for shit, but I will tell you that the above dug my ass out of more than $40K in CC debt, no home and sleeping in a garage to a wife who is >25 years younger, two homes, $380K cash reserves (plus investments) and buying a new Tesla (2022 MS) and 4Runner (2024 ORP) with cash. Nothing is as sweet as looking back at the people who said you werent capable or going to be accomplished, and realizing how wrong they are. fucking mobile. csnt typenworth shit.

You can follow SOFR futures to see what the market is pricing in. On TOS the contract is /SR3Z24 Up is more cuts, down is no cuts (or raises) Someone else could probably explain it better than I could where it is possible based on the number to know how big of a cut to expect.

There are multiple battery suppliers. CATL supplies primarily low-end LFP batteries for low-range RWD/SR models; Panasonic, LG supplies NCA-90/NCA811 for the Performance/Long Range models.

CATL manufactures 4680? since when? LG is expect to start mass-producing them just about now and there are a few others with 46XX variants developed for other EV OEMs such as BMW, Rivian, etc.. CATL primarily supplies low-cost LFPs for Tesla's low-range RWD/SR EVs.

LG is expected to start mass-producing 4680 for Tesla just about next month. Samsung also makes various 46XX for BMW, Rivian (??) and others.

I had a '98 and my dad is holding onto his '02 SR5 with only 140k miles on it. The GX is just a rebadged Hilux so we're pretty much on the same page. Wife and I were looking at the 4Runners back at the '22 model but it was stupid expensive and went with a Outback Wilderness. Look too much like lesbians, though.

It’s the importers. South East Toyota adds on random crap to Toyotas and it’s a charge that cannot be negotiated. The 4Runner “xp” was a SR5 with a fancy emblem and a different seat cover. $5k mark up. That kind of monopoly is crummy.

Problem is, for me at least, that my EV has half the capacity that my 20-year-old ICE did, so the savings (at least for me) are negligible. It costed me probably $30-40 to fill up my 2003 Toyota Matrix that got 330/396 mpg, compared to the $20-ish my 2021 Model 3 SR+ that gets 216 EPA rated miles after a few years of degradation but dependent on weather (like in the Winter, for example) the real range is more like 150 miles. The only way you’re saving significant money with an EV is if you’re a homeowner that can reliably charge your car in your own garage and you can schedule charging every night to ensure charging off-hours. Otherwise the cost is the same or in some cases more than an ICE, at least from my experience.

So, if SBUX announced earnings last week, how come they are still up now? I dont know so im just asking - plus they chose not to forecast '25? From their own webiste? For the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2024, global comparable store sales declined 7%, and consolidated net revenues declined 3% to $9.1 billion, or a 3% decline on a constant currency basis. GAAP earnings per share is $0.80, down 25% over prior year. Non-GAAP earnings per share is also $0.80, declining 24% on a constant currency basis. The company’s results were primarily driven by softness in North America’s revenues in the quarter, specifically a 6% decline in U.S. comparable store sales, driven by a 10% decline in comparable transactions, partially offset by a 4% increase in average ticket. The accelerated investments in an expanded range of product offerings coupled with more frequent in-app promotions and integrated marketing to entice frequency across the customer base did not improve customer behaviors, specifically traffic across both Starbucks Rewards and non-SR customer segments, resulting in lower-than-expected performance. Additionally, China comparable store sales declined 14%, driven by an 8% decline in average ticket compounded by a 6% decline in comparable transactions, weighed down by intensified competition and a soft macro environment that impacted consumer spending.\*

Personally I don't think the RWD will be made unless demand is unreasonably bad. Musk cancelled the promised SR RWD model y because of low range, and the RWD trucks range is lower then that was going to be if I recall correctly. I imagine the real world range is well under that 250 range estimate. I think you are right though if they brought a low cost electric vehicle to market it would sell like got cakes. However they don't seen to interested in that. Musk let it slip on the call there new 30k vehicle in development is actually 30k post credits which means it's basically a grand or two cheaper then the 3 is now. Also as I said earlier their marketing strategy seems to be to promise a low cost model at announcement, but cut it before production.

I thought the RWD was cancelled a few months back as you can't even order them anymore. Tesla usually never makes or barely makes any of the base option they advertise like the cloth seat 3, or the SR Y. Think they did it with the S and X as well with small battery sizes but less sure. They do it so they can advertise a super low future price point they will never meet like the 40k truck.

If you want, you could do something like the "golden butterfly". You could run it *if* youre comfortable with the 8% volatility and ~22% max drawdown. Its sensible if the absolute requirements for your emergency needs are ~25-30% less than the maximum value that you have invested, since in that case you would have enough even if you hit the max drawdown again. You get limited exposure to the market with large cap blend and small cap value, then you get stable short term yield with short term treasuries and crash hedge from long treasuries, and an additional uncorrelated source of volatility from gold, even though gold has zero real expected return (in excess of inflation). Example of taking a much lower equity allocation, splitting the rest into short bonds, long bonds, and gold, and rebalancing yearly. Not as great returns as just holsing stocks *over a long time frame*, but significantly lower volatility and significantly lower max drawdown. This is 20/20/20/20/20 S&P / SCV / Short term treasury bonds / long treasury bonds / gold (you could use SPLG or VOO / AVUV / SHY / EDV / GLDM). https://testfol.io/?d=eJy1UdFKwzAU%2FRW5Dz4ViaKCARGkbj4MLLbIhoxybW5qNEtmmm1I2b97aweWPfTNPOVyTs4596SF2vo3tBkGXDUgW2gihlgqjAQSIAFyajD16BYtyHPBJwFUH6Vx2mI03oHUaBtKoMLmXVu%2FAyn%2BhlIH%2BmKdBWGw36wWvLXG1eXOONVxr8U%2BgbUPUXtrPMd5bcHhqvOeeqvIndxvYqSgf18bt6UmpmZrGFHMjmHD1oF4H3QVTY7coqk%2BKfSq%2FZ3RPFsUz3cPt2fihilrChW5CPKCkwxY6SR%2FmY%2Fg%2BSOrjODFrBjFp0%2BzdN6luDwiLRNQAWuuseMfushPsysh%2FrkB%2Ft6h%2B3L%2FA%2BfttWg%3D

If you really don't want to part with your NVDA, and you don't even know what SR/DTE is best, just don't sell covered calls. NVDA made massive jumps post earnings this year and the likelihood it will happen again is significant. You have to remember, selling CCs is an exit strategy. Whether you keep racking up premiums or whether you get assigned, you're getting out with profit. Selling CCs with zero intent of parting with your shares, let alone zero actual strategy to prevent this from happening, leaves you exposed to eventually getting asssigned and then losing any profits trying to get back in. Either stop selling CCs or just sell much safer ones, ie make less money from selling them. Selling CCs is bullish, you're either only planning on selling a few until it starts rallying again or it's an exit strategy where instead of trying to time the perfect exit you compensate with premiums. The stock is literally expected to blow and you're out here selling CCs without wanting to actually sell the shares. That's just greedy at this point.

Also, your dealer must be one of the shady ass ones cause the SR5s at our dealers are all between $34-39k. Either way, Toyota will be fine.
