Do *you* know what a sharpe ratio is? Because I'm starting to think you don't. William Sharpe himself discusses single period sharpe ratios [here](https://web.stanford.edu/~wfsharpe/art/sr/SR.htm#Sharpe66). When speaking ex ante a single period sharpe ratio is really the most logical choice, since there's no need to break up our future expectations into multiple periods if we only care about performance and volatility over the entire investment timeline. > you never look at nanosecond volatility because it doesn't matter to you, but it still exists. That's exactly my point. The *only* thing we care about are the return and volatility at the end of our investment period. Everything else is merely a curiosity.

Haha! Fan boys are always the last to know. Looks AAPL is having a bad year... **MSFT dethrones AAPL as the king of market cap** In 2024, Microsoft (MSFT) overtook Apple (AAPL) as the world’s most valuable public company by market value. This shift was facilitated by a drop in Apple’s share price. As of March 2024, the stock price for Apple (AAPL) is $172.62. And the 52-week high for AAPL in 2024 is $199.62, and the 52-week low is $155.98. Microsoft’s rise in value can be attributed to its early lead in generative artificial intelligence through an investment in OpenAI. This has boosted Microsoft’s value, especially with the increased demand for remote working. On the other hand, Apple’s sales results missed expectations as demand for iPads and wearables was lower than expected. Here are the companies with the largest market capitalization as of March 22, 2024: **1. Microsoft (MSFT): $3.187T** 2. Apple (AAPL): $2.67T 3. NVIDIA (NVDA): $2.352T 4. Saudi Aramco (2222.SR): $2.119T 5. Alphabet (GOOGL): $1.884T 6. Alphabet (GOOG): $1.884T 7. Amazon.com (AMZN): $1.867T 8. Meta Platforms (META): $1.297T 9. Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B): $893.763B 10. To be honest, from this point in 2024, a 750ish stock price, adjusted for stock splits in 2020 and 2022 seems viable before 2030, while keeping current P/E ratio. Tesla is working to bring its LFP supply chains to US by 2026 so it's newest Model 3 SR can qualify for $7,500 tax credit again. It is also working on a new refreshed Model Y in China, expecting to launch in China somewhere around May/June, and then before year end in the US. It's 'mass market' $25,000 car should begin in 2025/26, or at least that's what the Tesla news sources and YouTube channels say - that should give Tesla an entry into SE Asia car markets, African can markets, Indian car market with a solid offering. Apparently one YouTuber showed a good analysis of how much the car would cost Tesla (~$21,000) if they would try selling it for $25,000. That's pretty good margins. And apparently that's going to be available in two or three different body types. Sedan, CUV, SomethingElse. Now, none of these are official statements by the company - plenty of them are based on evidence (LFP manufacturing moving to US), but majority are pure conjecture or what bigE said or what someone said on another YouTube channel. BUT IF - all of them are true, then there is a high chance of Tesla touching $700+, maybe even $900+ region. Now, this is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN unless all of these things are done, and if Chinese manufacturers setup in Mexico to start flooding the North American markets, it definitely won't - Tesla can lock them out of NACS but it's become a standard by SAE, so Tesla can only lock them out of Tesla supercharger network, they can always use other networks which follow the NACS protocol.

I'll be in the minority and say I wanted to rent EVs but Hertz was terrible at how they did it. 1) Their website said you'd be guaranteed a Model Y or a Model 3 LR. But when you got their they'd have nothing but SR 3's and then they'd look surprised when you asked for a lower rate for the lower tier car. 2) They failed to charge them, so you'd get it and find it has 35% charge and needed to be charged before you could go anywhere Really between thoose two things, even me who wanted to rent then would avoid them. This also doesn't count me the times I saw Hertz employees pushing people who nothing about EVs into them and saying good luck.

Go back and read my statement. I don’t have a $1000 payment but a lot of people do. Since auto prices have increased in the last couple years … for instance a Toyota 4 Runner SR5 went from $38K to $48K, this has an impact on consumer monthly payment. When auto prices drop … those people with the high payment will have a car that has dropped in value. Kind of like used car values sky rocketing during COVID. This affects everyone especially when repos start.

Stock options play out over vested time, Up here in Seattle you have SpaceX and Microsoft, Google, Meta, and a few others down the road. MS gives amazing stock options along with solid stability. Elon has founded 9 companies under his belt, along with X. So he's 4/9 if you include SolarCity that he used Tesla to help bail out, and this company. I know of one SR level engineer at SpaceX and they are not lying that Elon is demanding. While MS semi still has worklife balance you get vested, then revested after a few years. So as an HIGH demand LLM developer, its either live comfortably with amazing pay of 400k + hiring bonus and revested of upto $1mil in stock per round or roll the dice with Elon 45% chance of success and rich stuff.

Already have a lot of responses but FWIW: 37M, Single (but Head of Household), help provide for my partner and part-time step kiddo while she gets back on her feet after some job loss issues. 180k salary, max out 401k, max out Roth (backdoor), max out HSA, contribute ~20k to brokerage account annually, ~21k to HYSA for various budgeted expenses (I am against going into debt for things I cant pay for in cash, so I save ahead of time). ~37% take home pay is invested and 16% is put into savings accounts for a total SR of 53% I started investing via a 401k when I was 22 at my first job making ~28k/yr, but those slow and steady contributions over time are what have paid off. The snowball effect from compounding interest is very real. It took my 9 years to get to my first ~100k invested, and that has over 6X'd over the last 7 years. Hoping to semi-retire or move towards CoastFIRE sometime between 45-50 assuming I can keep contributions going and the market stays steady. **Breakdown** Savings: Currently sitting on 2 years expenses in cash/cash equivalents (HYSA + T-bills in brokerage acct). This is my e-fund of which is ~1 yr of expenses, and the rest is my "budget" accounts where I put money in every paycheck for various expenses (e.g. new car/maintenance, vacation fund, pet expenses, toys/fun shit). Normally I wouldn't let so much cash sit on hand, but with the economy being so up and down the last few years and the current 5% interest/div I am getting, I dont mind letting it ride until things get a little more stable (especially as I have worked for startups for the better part of the last 7 years and have been through layoffs/closures a few times). Investments: The vast majority of my investments is a lazy 2-3 index fund portfolio, tried my hand at picking individual stocks but got my ass handed to me on a few of the pandemic stocks. So outside one or two individual holdings, its mostly invested into a couple broad market mutual funds, and a couple ETFs for specific sectors that I think will continue to look good for the next decade.

You're both correct and missing the point. Yes, $3000 is the max deduction for ordinary income, but capital gains are not ordinary income, they are capital gains. There is no limit to the amount of capital gains you can offset with capital losses, including accumulated losses in prior years. > The term "net capital gain" means the amount by which your net long-term capital gain for the year is more than your net short-term capital loss for the year. The term "net long-term capital gain" means long-term capital gains reduced by long-term capital losses including any unused long-term capital loss carried over from previous years. > If your capital losses exceed your capital gains, the amount of the excess loss that you can claim to lower your income is the lesser of $3,000 ($1,500 if married filing separately) or your total net loss shown on line 16 of Schedule D (Form 1040). How is the price after incentives meaningless? Incentives that most customers can take advantage of to at least some degree. Are those same incentives meaningless on Toyota vehicles? Or other brands? They’re not unique to Tesla. And beginning next year, buyers will be able to take the federal incentives as well as several state incentives, as point of sale credits. As of right now, I can buy a Model 3 SR in Colorado for $27690 + tax/title/license. That’s $38990 - $7500 fed - $3800 state. State incentive here is a refundable credit, so the buyer gets it even if they have 0 taxable income. Sure not everyone can use the full fed tax credit, but most buyers can if they play it right. Sure it’s not the “real” price of the car. Consumer Joe don’t care about that, he just knows the car costs him $27690+tax and license plates. Sadly, the tax incentives are also impactful on the used market because everyone (even used dealers/ brokers) assumes the original buyer paid at least $7500 less than MSRP. So to say they don’t matter is misguided, even facetious.

Lying about what? I might be wasting my time arguing with someone who clearly prefers blind antagonism to facts, but if you look at the data https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2023/trends-in-batteries You can see that in just the last two years LFP went from 5% of batteries to 25%, and continues to increase. LFP battery density too is increasing and this year will match that of NMC batteries from a few years, i.e. perfectly good for any car, even if they're limited to the SR models of Model 3 and Model Y today. LFP also encompasses the majority of BYD cars and 30% of Teslas sold, again according to actual data I just read.

Some thoughts from someone who has been driving only Teslas for a decade. > 1. The material requirement to make new batteries is immense. If you thought burning gas into CO2 was bad for the environment, think about all the resource destruction goes into mining all the minerals we need for batteries. True but those materials can be nearly fully recycled and reused meaning less mining in the future. Check out Redwood Materials by the ex Tesla CTO for more. > 2. What percent of the 140 million housing units have the ability to install a 220V line? Of those, how many have the finances to drop the cash needed to install 220V lines? You can't charge these cars with a standard 110V port. I mean you COULD, but it would take DAYS to recharge the battery fully. I live in a townhome. My breaker box has no free space, I don't feel like spending the money to install a 220V line, and my car is not directly in front of my house. Even if my car was in front of my house and I had the money and desire to install an external 220V line, I'm not allowed to run a cable along the walking path and my yard. How many others are in this situation? You can't force these people to get EV's. Sure, there is an EV charging station down the road from me, but shit, the whole ALLURE of an EV is that you can charge from home and save money on fuel and thus recoup the extra cost of getting an EV. Charging at an EV station negates all of that - keep in mind most stations (including this one down the street, not to mention all in my county) charge a wait fee if you don't disconnect your car within 10 minutes after completing your charge...ridiculous. If your EV is a commuter car, you’ll survive just fine on 110v unless you drive the Hummer EV or some other massively inefficient vehicle with a giant battery. Even easier if you have workplace charging. Plus, installing a 220 outlet costs $300 assuming your fuse box is in the garage. > 3. For a long haul trip, people are still going to opt for a gas car. Trust me, I (and many other men) wouldn't hear the end of it from our wives for having to stop for 45 minutes every 250 miles to recharge, versus having to stop for under 10 minutes to refill. Hold your horses. Who spends 45 minutes charging at each stop? Maybe the Bolt takes that long because it DC fast charges super slowly but that’s also not a road trip car. A better example: driving from Seattle to San Diego in a LR Model 3 requires two hours of charging stops for the entire trip (via ABetterRoutePlanner, the gold standard of trip planning and recent Rivian acquisition). > 4. Cost. Even with the federal $7500 credit, the cost is still too high to the point that it will take you 15 years of gas refills or so to negate the extra cost of an EV. A state rebate would help, but only 15 states (the usual suspects, all deep blue states, plus TX, sans DC & WA) offer individuals a rebate on the purchase of an EV, most require the MSRP be below $50,000 (i.e. Tesla Model Y doesn't apply). 2 states/territories (DC & WA) offer rebates on your taxes, and one (GA) offers businesses an incentive. The rest have absolutely nothing or basically nothing (WI). The base Accord starts at $27k. The SR Model 3 is $5k more after tax credit. As an actual EV owner, it won’t take 15 years to recoup that additional $5k. It won’t even take five. Besides, highly budget conscious buyers won’t (or at least shouldn’t) be buying new cars. They’ll stick to the used market and buy something 8-10 years old. > 5. Unlike used gas cars which are easily resold since all the parts are good or are easily replaced (e.g. lead-acid battery, motor oil, gas), used EV's have lower value because their non-replaceable batteries lose capacity over time. A vast majority of the degradation occurs in the first 18-24 months. After that, the battery stops degrading and levels off around 85%-90% of the original capacity. In other words, the battery will long outlive the car. Once everything else around the battery is scrapped, the batteries can still be used as stationary storage or the metals can be recycled and made into a new battery. > I think as people wake up to these realities, the fad will die out and auto makers will be looking for the next best thing, which is hydrogen power cars. While reasons 1, 2, 4 and 5 are big detractors, #3 is the big one, which boils down to convenience. People just want the ability to refill within 5 minutes and be on their way. This 30-45 min bs is annoying. Hydrogen fuel cars allow that. Check out videos on them. The only issue right now is that you have to use an app to find out which stations (in the LA area) are full and open since there aren't unlimited stations and cheap means of production/transport (pipelines) like we have with gas. Production of hydrogen isn't cheap. I have a coworker in the Bay Area who wanted a hydrogen powered car until he realized that the closest fueling station was 45 minutes away. Imagine driving an hour and a half to fuel up your car.

They are beaten up for a reason. There is a limit to what people will spend on spectator sports and all these companies eat from the same trough. That amount will simply follow wage inflation plus or minus attachment trend and the rest is cannibalism within the segment. Also note that spectator events have been losing butts for at least two decades. This coincides with the rise of interactive entertainment... aka video games. So the fundamentals arent exactly great. Sportradar (a service my employer uses), for example, saw a surge thanks to the rise (and insane funding) of online gambling. Those startups received and spent billions (mostly on marketing) their services. But they are mostly unprofitable. They will run out of funding in the next few years and only a hand full will survive the consolidation cycle. Can companies like SR increase fees to keep up with the consolidation? If you raise fees too much will customers bolt or create their own service? A bit too much risk imho.

That's not true, I bought it last year around summer and then kept buying until I ran out of money. My entire portfolio is NVDA, SHOP and MSFT. [I first started buying stocks in 2022.](https://imgur.com/a/aCUx8SR)

Amazon workers are back. And so is the traffic. Data from transportation analytics provider Inrix shows average commute speeds dropping by as much as 35% on routes in and out of Seattle since Amazon’s return-to-office mandate went into effect earlier this month. SR 520, which connects Bellevue and the Eastside to Seattle via bridge, had an average speed of 42 MPH going into the city before Amazon’s policy kicked in. The 2-week average starting May 1 dropped to 30 MPH.

Lol this motherfucker does not know what they're talking about. If you literally don't live in Seattle downtown your commute is 1 hr+ Allow me to introduce you to the 2 fucking bridges that cosplay as parking lots during the commute hours: I90 and SR520.

That trade system was like super popular in 2012. I remember there were some blogs that back tested all these rules like that with contango and Vix vol and would have ridiculous SR of like 2.

The fastest air breathing aircraft (the SR-7) was designed in the 1950's. Don't you think that battery technology has advanced in the last 100 years beyond what's been..... advertised?

It still depends. I am actually looking into buying a Grünheide Model Y cause build quality on others Models is bullshit and Tesla offers the best range for the best price in Germany at the moment. You can allways wait for the sales that's true but then you are also at the constant gable of the car you want not being available. E.g i look for a red Model Y SR its like a needle in a haystack but the discount on the price and the financing is worth it. Then i have enough coworkers buying cars directly and paying the higher price for more customisation. So the "i wait for sales" play is more something for people who either already have a car an can wait it out or don't need one immediately. But most car purchases i have seen people do weren't planned but instead: "I need a new one and it need it now" cause old one was destroyed after a accident or whatnot.
