Comparison of Covered Call versus Covered Calls with Bull Put Spreads.....two quality stocks that I was bullish on and comparing the results after over 300 days. With ABT we added BuPS to the strategy. With LNC we only used Covered Calls. BuPS have the potential to offset losses on the short calls.

I'd say ABT as defensive given a bit more need-based and history of outperforming in downturns. Staples have had a lousy last 5 years. MDLZ is one of the better ones, but feels like these names continue to work through taking too much price. Perhaps benefits if consolidation starts to occur in the industry after such a meh last half decade.
Cath lab tech here: penumbra is great, and all these medical device companies are filthy rich (see Stryker, ABT, MDT) and I am starting to stash my money in this sector, but this specific device, if not rendered useless, won’t be adopted until we have AI CV surgeons. Clots are bombed with meds and easily verified with fleuro in real time. No special caths needed. Penumbra is mostly known in the sector for their coils which plug aneurysms and such. X-ray tech is the only thing I see getting any AI integration in the lab, which is currently being tested in field. I think the one we have is made by abbot specifically, and is used in place of an ICE catheter which is basically an IV ultrasound. The quality is better, but that’s ab it. That being said, PEN along with all the other stocks I mentioned will be about as safe a position as Walmart, NVDA, etc. That is, if this vicious insurance premium spike doesn’t completely fuck hospital systems worldwide.
ABT - strong beat - devices solid, GLP1 under control, good organic
As an ABT owner last earnings was rough but it recovered. Wouldn’t be surprised if it had a bad time again, especially with market instability.
trumpRX ok who GAF TALK ABT CHINA.
ABT got me shitting my pants
MSFT is one of the three I've kept, WMT and ABT being the others. All the other US equities I sold off. I figure if AI is a bubble then MSFT will be ok if bruised. WMT because it's akin to a Giffen good. ABT because everyone and even pets are getting glucose monitors. I'm tempted to sell everything but gold but haven't done so yet.
ABT , Google and Microsoft Abt is really not something anyone would think twice about on Reddit, but in any 5 year period, it has consistently outperformed sp500 for decades. It has been on my watch list since I learned how to invest from day 1. Fortunate for me (and unfortunately for the stock ), I always have better targets than it and most of them did give me better returns.
60% ABT and 40% ABBV. Growth and sweet dividend hard to beat. Neither company is going anywhere.
Good Move I have long calls on both in what I call the ABT trade Anything but Tesla History Repeats itself Look at Intel vs AMD in the 90s til now
ABT is about to fill a gap to the upside if you're looking for a quickie.
ABT at open was the way.
$ABT looking nice at support 👀
We need an upside down rocket emoji for ABT 💩
They cut funding? Hospitals with lower funding can't order equipment they need for the future or anything they have in backlog. ABT sales men calls hospital: "hey wanna buy new equipment" Hospital Admin: "no Trump's bill fucked us" ABT sales me: *goes home and ropes*
Thoughts on ABT? I bought some shares over the last few days. Let's see how this works out for me.
You're talking about defensive and for health you're listing four biotechs - while I do like a couple of those they are absolutely not "defensive." Some of healthcare is defensive (ABBV/ABT, for example) but definitely not all of it.
Could have had 500% on ABT but took 25% instead
well when TF ARE THEY GONNA TALK ABT IT
Trumps made China look like the stable adult in the world room. Weird rooting for ABT anyone but Trump. Wonder how Bessent n that woman Karoline Leavitt in Washington will spin this. Why China just up n walked. No doubt she will as always, be straight with the American people. (It’s Joe Biden’s fault , duh)
I'm worried about my $ABT calls now. This company seemed solid through liberation day, but I'm not sure that guidance is going to be good especially with upcoming pharmaceutical tariffs. I'm also pretty sure they had to frontload a bunch of stuff from China, and they're not a distributor so it might have cut into their earnings.
Should I buy puts on ABT to cover my shares? They were really panicked over the Mexico/Canada tarriffs and I feel the uncertainty here is gonna make for a rough earnings call despite any other good news
Gold, CORT, PVH, ABT I don’t care for the hype stocks (Tesla,Apple)
He's gonna tariff Abbott Laboratories (ABT) because he thinks it's a Canadian company LMAO
My first investment was 100 shares of ABT in 1986/87 at a split adjust cost basis of \~$3.25. Second investment was 100 shares of MSFT at a split adjusted cost basis of \~$0.10 around the same time. I panic sold the day after Black Monday because I needed the money.
Pharma like ABT and ABBV up recently too…putting money in safe spots.
The pharma ones I have right now are ABT, AZN and LLY.
ABBV and ABT just like last time
No prob. Trash (RSG/WM/WCN) is another recession resistant (you're going to lose but probably lose less than a lot of stuff) sector. Everyone needs to have their trash picked up, but if you have a bad recession and commercial properties are empty/closing/etc that's less trash pickup, or if you have a 2020 and so much is closed. C-stores do okay in recessions; if you look at CASY that lost in 2008 but not that badly. Couche Tard in Canada is a quality, well-run company down a lot lately (although if you buy the US symbol that ends with an F - and F means foreign ordinary - you have to be careful as some brokers charge a lot to trade foreign ords.) MUSA wasn't public in 2008 but did okay (at least compared to a lot of other things) in 2020. Maybe DG/DLTR finally bounce back if there was a recession. ABT would be another example of quality medical co that has done very well in recessions (although is up a fair amount lately.)
ABT and ABBV sailing above all the waves. Sick people aren’t affected by tariffs.
ABT and ABBV rockin’ it! Tariffs do nothing to sick people!
Mango going to issue a fine to Abbott Laboratories (ABT) thinking it's a Canadian company LMAO
ABT and ABBV sitting just fine! Always gonna be sick people no matter what inflation and tariffs do.
Planning for 10 more years. 1/3 ABBV for div, 1/3 ABT and 1/3 in S&P 500 fund. No cash yet. Minimal amount in a Roth for eventual rollovers.
Abbott Laboratories (ABT) sounds like a Canadian company but it's not LMAO
Abbott Laboratories (ABT) sounds like a Canadian company but it's not LMAO
I swear these JNJ and ABT week calls are gonna make me 50k...
Playing the weeklong JNJ and ABT game. I think theyre both gonna make me rich
What’s the reason for that crazy move on ABT in the last 2 weeks?
Seems like a swift rotation - all boomer stocks like ABT, PG, PEP, MRK etc have an inverse V
I making calls on $ABT
The answers are (based on past performance at least): WMT, ABT, SNPS, ACN, TMUS, NFLX, NEE. All outperformed S&P in both 2008 and 2020.
Long suffering bag holder here. PFE never moves. Even activists haven’t been able to get it over 30 for more than a few days. There’s something fishy there - activists had new Mgmt lined up and, suddenly, over a weekend, they bailed out. Said “we weren’t threatened” before anyone even asked anything. I’d put my $ in LLY or ABT
Meh. They sounded like knuckleheads on that last call - couldn’t answer basic questions like the impact of GLP1s. My money went to ABT.
ABT and ZBH. Pediatric equipment and custom orthopedic inserts.
Don’t know Dan Keegan. At the same time, why don’t you pick few great tickets. AAPL, CRWD, NVDA, AVGO, QCOM, AMD, ABT, BA, MSFT, META To rotate your PUT and CALL to make descent premiums. In case you get assigned, wait for market to recover and sell high. Try for a quarter and see how this works for you.
Generally I separate stocks into two categories, boring and volatile. The boring stocks like MSFT, CAT, CNI, WM, I don't expect to beat growth stocks on average but are great sell puts because these are great income businesses. Then there are questionable stocks where, depending on market conditions the stock can have its own personality. For example, FDX, NEM, D, XOM, ABT, X, TLT, BTI, these stocks need to have high volaility for me to get in at high premium to be worth the risk. I generally sell OOTM contracts. I sell contracts so I do not have the obligation to excerise. If a great company is tanking for a good year I may buy their stocks instead. Currently selling calls in tech and sell puts in consumer defensive, utilities, bonds, gold, and healthcare.
Never done bonds. I’m kinda a junkie for stocks because dividends going up like $VZ or $ABT etc are just joyous to me. I expect BMY to up theirs in a few months.
Hm, I guess I would cut NVDA, BAC, ABT, ALAB, ARM. My idea was like, VOO is the most safety part and it is separate. Other stocks should be from different industries. But I guess I need to increase AAPL and NVDA
Sucks, you can lead a regard to water but can't make them drink. I told this guy about it too same time as RKLB but he decided to invest in ABT and CCL. He did get into RKLB last month after I was talking about the price and he realized he was in on RKT
Nope…ABT and ABBV keeping me high and dry
I am staring at my ABT, JNJ and PEP It starts to get awful red below that. Better luck tomorrow, stay strong everyone

Bullish on $ABT, seems like a nice entry point
Did u eat dirt this week or not lol, I’m convinced I’m the only one up around 5% ish been trading healthcare JNJ and ABT specifically
All healthcare still has political overhang. I own ABT for the dividends and stability. If you got to any hospital you will see a lot of Abbot products. Also saw that interview this morning. Cramer does have a point. Lawsuits are not good and overhang. Look at MMM with earplugs and PFAS. JNJ with talc.
why isn't ABT going up?
I've bought a few 3000 strike Bkng puts for 5$ . Praying for a miracle if not it was only 20$. TSLA puts. a Few near the money IWM's to sell at open. Hoping to grab a few hundred Sqq 8$ calls when it drops below in the AM. Got a few ABT calls this morning for ABT earnings They were cheap with everything going on. Down 5% on the year and they hit their target 100% of the time.
What I own that are just individual stocks (doesn't include my ETFs): ABT - just trying to make some money but I don't think it's a long hold ABBV - I'll hold for as long as it makes sense DAR - I might be crazy but I still believe this company has a future and, while I'm at a small loss, I will give it way more time. LOGI -sold half my shares the other day, still haven't decided on the rest NCLH - bought it for options trading but I've been sitting on the fence before I make a decision PL - another option purchase but I don't know, I think I'll stick around for awhile REGN - I hope this stock is the Microsoft of biotech. As of now, it's the smartest purchase I've ever made. WDFC - it's a negative beta stock. Unless something happens to the business, I can't see ever getting rid of it.
I own REGN (biotech), ABBV (drugs), and ABT (medical devices). If you can eat the price tag, REGN is my first suggestion then ABBV. I'm not going to hold ABT much longer but I plan on holding REGN for as long as makes sense (hopefully for a long ass time) and ABBV when I either hit my gain goal or if I want to put my money to work somewhere else.
I’ve been invested in ABT for a while but I just closed recently. Without the COVID rapid tests their rapid diagnostics revenue is getting killed. Med devs/ libre/ MitraClip are not growing fast enough to offset this At max they are worth $120, which is still 15% upside but a lot of better opportunities imo. A great company does not always mean a great stock
I own ABT but I also own ABBV and REGN. I'd take every dollar I put in ABT and instead buy either one if those, mostly REGN. Love that stock.
AMZN might honestly be undervalued as crazy as that may sound. Logistics business is starting to become more efficient & the ad business is just starting to grow which will be a monster. With prime they will take share as customers look for cheaper options. ABT is pretty undervalued as well, they’ve been getting dinged because of lawsuits but the amount of money they would pay in a settlement doesn’t even come close to the amount of market cap lost. They guided up for the year on the Q1 earnings call (something they don’t usually do), outside of the lawsuit this the business is very strong.
ABT look half-decent too
Meh. If I wanted to own something boring I'd rather ABT around $100. Will probably hold up comparatively well in a recession, excellent management and quiet company that rarely gets headlines vs people upset with the company for something every other week.
I’ve really been trying to research and study stocks. I recently have purchased 5 single stocks. Nvidia, google, Amazon, ABT, and CXR.. I honestly don’t know what I’m doing. I was trying the buy and hold approach. I’ve already bought them so now can I just wait and they will possibly accumulate money over the years or what shld I do? I’m just trying to make a decent dang investment/return man
Since I don’t see them elsewhere in the thread, here are some of my favorites based on strong fundamentals like low debt, good cash flow, and strong dividend growth: ABT, FAST, ITW, SNA
Abbott Laboratories (ABT) has many shareholders, including institutional investors and the general public: **Institutional investors** Some of the largest shareholders include **Vanguard Group Inc., BlackRock Inc., Capital Research Global Investors, State Street Corp, Capital International Investors, Morgan Stanley, and Geode Capital Management, Llc**. As of December 30, 2023, Vanguard Group Inc. owned 9.02% of the company. General public As of December 2021, the general public, including retail investors, owned 24% of the company. While this may not be enough to sway policy decisions, they can still have a collective impact. Who are the biggest shareholders at Nestlé? **Institutional shareholders** **Holder:** The Vanguard Group, Inc. as of 09 MAY 2024 **Shares:**99.58m 3.80% **Holder:** BlackRock Fund as of 31 May 2024 **Shares:** 45.05m 1.72% **Holder:** Capital Research & Management Co. (World Investors)AS OF 09 MAY 2024 (part of the Capitol Group) **Shares:** 47.57m 1.82% **Holder:** BlackRock Advisors (UK) Ltd. as of 09 MAY 2024 **Shares:**18.75m .72% **Holder:** Geode Capital Management LLC AS OF 06 JUN 2024 **Shares:** 18.32m .70% Maybe do a little research next time. Abbot is owned by the same groups that own Nestlé.
ABBV not bad (sister co ABT, as well), V not bad but I don't think either is undervalued. LULU I don't think is undervalued but is overhated/oversold so I think a bounce is probably in order but beyond that would want to see confirmation that fundamentals haven't eroded. ULTA imo an example of something that is overhated/oversold, but indications that the fundamental picture is okay. UPS has a very good CEO and is oversold but a number of headwinds/challenges that may/will persist, including Amazon: "Amazon’s logistics arm was the only carrier among the top four — including FedEx, UPS and the Postal Service — to see volume gains year-over-year. Since 2019, it has nearly tripled its shipping volumes. As Amazon’s in-house delivery capabilities have grown, it has reduced its reliance on other carriers like UPS. While UPS doesn’t report volumes tied to a specific customer, its revenue derived from Amazon last year was its lowest annual total since 2019 as the two companies advanced their mutually agreed cutback. Amazon shipped more U.S. parcel volumes than UPS did last year, the first time in the index’s history. The company had already surpassed FedEx on that front." https://www.supplychaindive.com/news/amazon-ups-4-other-takeaways-from-shipping-index-pitney-bowes/713329/
I bought a long call for ABT at a strike price of 103 and sold a short leg that was a call with a strike price of 104 that expired 1 week before the 103 long call
What do you guys think of ABT Abbot Laboratories right now? undervalued ? overvalued ?

Bought ABT calls yesterday because I saw something in the daily thread.
Bought some ABT 115c before close. Hopefully they hit 🤞🏽
The real play is CGMs, buy DXCM and ABT as the medical community struggles to grapple with our underregulated aild west toxic food system. Yeehaw
I’ve been holding ABT puts for like almost 2 months. Down over 50% at one point. Finally got out today for like a $10 gain. It’ll probably go down more, but I was in way too early and I’m just happy to get out without a loss
1. Yes at times over the years. Nothing currently, but always open to it. There are ETFs for India but it's difficult to buy individual names as there are not many ADRs. I don't really want to invest in China at this point and have thought about a couple of things in Latin America but haven't invested. 2. Mutual Funds, ETFs. Individual names but it's not always easy when it comes to investing in individual EM names in the US - a lot of brokerages charge steep fees for investing in foreign ordinary shares, which have symbols ending in F. A lot of names don't have a US option and a lot of instances where there is a US option there's limited trading and I wouldn't be in something that trades once in a great while. There are US names with a good deal of EM exposure, too - ABT I believe although haven't looked in a while. 3. I think have EM exposure because you have a thesis on why for the next 1-3-5 years. I wouldn't recommend buying EM because you don't have exposure and think you should.
