I really want to buy AKAM calls because the chart has a high tight flag... But the funds are dropping off like flies, EPS and sales growth decelerating, PE in the middle of range... and a 14.1% expected move, IV's gonna crush. Last few times, the majority of its move was after the open... Last time, it rallied for three solid days... So planning on buying AKAM calls after the open if it's moving up, avoids IV crush and rides momentum...

Mentions:#AKAM

Because that specific sub-sector has been hit hard in general, but AKAM has also seen the number of funds holding shares drop substantially. BUT the char pattern is actually fairly bullish, forming a high tight flag... but that could just as easily reverse... The safer play is to watch the morning, if it does break upwards, then jump on for the ride...

Why on AKAM? Just curious.

Under the radar seems to have the biggest surprise moves, and I like catching those 20% to 50% moves as they create 300% to 2000% options gains. OPEN and AKAM both look more like puts to me, but not enough to bet on it.

I jumped back into EE - it's a godo stock and shows a solid uptrend. Also it looks like my Tenet Healthcare (THC) might pay off. It's recovering and I think I will close with a profit here in the next week or two. Lastly, today I jumped into Akamai (AKAM). Looks promising for the next few days.

I think AKAM is a short term play: Orderly pullback within an intact uptrend — price at $111.76 with support at $90.88. Volume at 1.8x average suggests growing conviction. Price trades above both the 50-day and 200-day moving averages.

Long shot but anyone here holding AKAM and willing to shill me a bull thesis? If NET is a $70 billion company with $1.7 billion revenue and has literally never turned a profit, ever, then I see little reason AKAM shouldn't be a $20 billion company easily. Revenue $4 billion and climbing steadily every year, and actually turns a profit. Has AI appeal too, with an "AI firewall" product and a product for monetizing AI web crawlers. I don't hold individual stocks often but I'm pretty tempted to throw $3k at this and hope I finally get my lucky day for once.

Way back in the day before retail became popular and people still used the newspaper to get their ticker info I supervised and ran a banquet department at a private club. I recall that many of the senior servers had brokerage accounts. Had to have a minimum of 5k to start. Never had enough to open an account. I recall that Microsoft had like 3 splits and Starbucks was just listed as an IPO. If I only had enough to open an account! A few years passed and In 2005 I took out a heloc and and said wtf might as well. I opened a share builder account which was one of the first online options . Paid like 79.99 for a Motley fool subscription and bought AKAM EBAY SIRI and a company called a NFLX which at the time was still selling movies and another company selling books called AMZN. 120 dollars of each. Shit happened lost the house in 2008 to foreclosure and basically forgot about the account. A few years go by and as I was watching a midnight showing of XMen and overheard a conversation in the row in front of mentioning something about “like buying Netflix at $10 share”. Wait a sec I have that! Sharebuilder got bought by E*trade and my fractional shares became full shares. 82 shares of NFLX @ 1.56 and 4 shares of AMZN @ 30 each. They are still in my account along with 10 shares of NVDA in 2016 because I liked their video cards which now has a cost basis of 2.28 share. NFLX is up 77000% NVDA up 7000% and AMZN up 2200%. Time in the market beats timing the market and buy and hodl. Just my two cents.

RAX and SVVS are garbage models. AKAM is a completely different space. CRWV aims to be AI/GPU hyperscaler. It's more comparable to MSFT AMZN GOOGL public cloud compute. Only difference is CRWV does GPU, whereas the others CPU and GPU. EQIX and DLR are very successful companies in their own rights. But they are drops in the bucket compared to the hyperscalers. That's the point I was trying to make; only so high of a ceiling when you supply a commodity for the customer to work their magic on, versus supplying a platform that does much of the heavily lifting leaving the customer to mainly focus on their product/service. Also EQIX is the very best - I don't think you can really use that as a measuring stick. It's like saying the new streaming company will be NFLX or the new semi company will be NVDA - these are generational leaders.

r/stocksSee Comment

>This is similar to colocation model of a EQIX or DLR >I'd much rather invest in a full stack solution such as CRWV or NBIS. It seems like the colocation companies did significantly better. And WULF is starting from $4.5B today while NBIS/CRWV are already at $14B and $31B. Colocation / bandwidth heavy (Wulf analogues): * Equinix (EQIX): ~$80B. * Digital Realty (DLR): ~$40B+. Managed hosting / service layer (Corweave analogues): * Rackspace (RAX): peak cap ≈ $7–8B before going private in 2016. * Savvis (SVVS): peak < $5B, bought for ~$2.5B in 2011. * Akamai (AKAM): peak 2000 valuation ≈ $30B, still public ~$15B today.

$2 sounds a bit more future proof assuming these aren’t long conversations. As these agentic AI models become more complex and require more compute power. Have seen predictions of costs 50x for where it wouldn’t be unreasonable to see $2 per message. So yeah the major cloud providers Azure, AWS and Google Cloud. Thought on a smaller cloud provider such as AKAM?

I divested so I haven't been following AKAM enough to form an opinion. If I was interested I'd try to ascertain how their India sales channels are growing YoY.  I still use their products and services professionally. They offer great value (much cheaper than AWS with cross over core capabilities).  To be frank I've gone deep into gold because wtf is going on with the federal government, and all that. Treasury system access? I still haven't been able to figure out if any writes were made to the treasury database. Looks like Musk is lying about all that crap and everyone else is scared for their livelihoods. If treasury securities get screwed up, banks are freaking out and I'd expect their clients and securities to start freaking out. I still hold QQQ and Vanguard index funds but I'm not holding any individual stocks anymore. Even sold MSFT a while back. Their quantum stuff is incredibly interesting, but I'd venture to say that there's probably not a huge number of developers who know how to program for quantum chips yet, that work force will take time to grow unless they can make a build time abstraction over it, which I guess could be feasible. I digress... ya I though Akamai had more of a lock on India. They have great services and products for a industry leading price, but I guess the big guys and their vendor lock ins paired with bells and whistle APIs continue to have the lions share.

shit man how did i miss this comment ?? u/JC7577 any changes on your opinion of fastly ? Didn't they recently offer a free tier as well ? i tried to find out how much cisco offered for fastly back then but couldn't find anything. I'm wondering if they are a good acquisition target at this point. They bought signal sciences for $775 mil so that alone should sweeten the deal. Also, the recent EDGIO bankruptcy is very good for fastly, AKAM, and the entire industry due to consolidation. NET is currently at 38 bil , AKAM at 15bil, and FSLY at only 1.5bil ? seems crazy undervalued to me. Thoughts ?

Actually maybe it does have to do with dividends. If I do the same for AKAM which has 0 divi yield, the prices are all the same across the various charting services. Any idea what stockcharts is doing? Are they devaluing the price over time as a function of dividends issued?

As someone mentioned it after last earnings: "Fastly mostly goes down. Fastly" And their CTO Artur Bergman sells his shares on every tiny bump. He got loads of them for free, good for him. Other names in CDN space - NET (Cloudflare), AKAM (Akamai),EGIO (Edgio) and the usual cloud providers AMZN, GOOGL, MSFT. Out of those - AKAM is a biggest and oldest, NET is roughest and boldest, EGIO is the youngest and riskiest. FSLY is 'meh'. Cloudflare was mentioned in the news a couple years ago as one of their clients used their services for child porn distribution. They cleaned their act by now but the smell is still there. AKAM is rather safe bet, you may lose 25% over next year or you may gain 25%. Not for WSB folks. EGIO just did reverse split and still have to file their 10-K to get back Nasdaq compliance or they get delisted. Once they get in compliance they will fly , And their stock will probably drop another 50% by that time - good entry. FSLY - nothing is going there, no new development, the only competitive edge is low price. Disclaimer: I own some AKAM shares and trade NET and FSLY options on earnings

ZS tonight and CRWD next week. Them going down seems too obvious now, but for example SNOW, PANW, ANET, AKAM, GDDY, DDOG, TWLO, DBOX, and more all got wrekt. Cloudflare is I think the single exception that went up

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

I pretty much don’t have any hope left in me so I’m gonna go all in on these tonight. I was gonna do SNOW puts anyway. In the cloud service and data management market, pretty sure cloudflare is the single exception that went up. Down includes services like PANW, DDOG, GDDY, DBOX, AKAM, ANET, I think there was more as well. I know they aren’t exactly the same, but I have a strong feeling SNOW is going down. PARA looks good to go up and honestly, and AI will just do whatever the heck the market wants it to. The business itself I’ve learned is irrelevant to its stock movement. It could be flat to options fuck peolle but I’m gonna still go 27 puts

Reality was as expected, unfortunately. And in reality, AKAM is very conservative when it comes to earnings (e.g. when it dropped to $80s some time ago after they gave an ultra-conservative ER), which has really served the company well in terms of meeting expectations. I am guessing they will beat a few earnings this year (probably the last two). I really thought their price diff when compared to AWS etc would have sold way faster but perhaps the AWS lockin is too powerful. AKAM is mainly compute and S3, perhaps removing some of the incentive there. I would definitely hold the 0621 until the stock recovers a bit and probably after ER. It is really oversold right now. End thoughts are that ER for AKAM really came out at a bad time. Mood of the macro was really down when AKAM ER came out and these viral swings seem to be more and more pronounced as state sponsored AI takes over online opinion. It was bad timing on the macro, and lack-luster forward-looking commentary. Bad luck, really. I was hoping for a larger surprise from the India deal. Cloud computing is a major shift for the company though and that will hopefully be better communicated in the June ER. I really think they should have focused more on the 20% YoY cloud growth and the sheer size and generally accepted growth of that market.... that's really the growth story here and by giving it the name "Gecko" really muddied the waters with that message. Gecko... why not just say "hey, you know how much larger of a pool we're in now? just think... CDN vs Cloud" --- instead they give it a code name and go into way too much detail about how they are leveraging their existing CDN assets for the transition. ...it was confusing, way too conservative (for option traders at least), and put me down \~10K before I cut losses. I've recovered \~2k already on other things, some of which is AKAM, so not too bad. At least the price is pretty sweet now... picked up 0621's yesterday. I would apologize but I still think AKAM is a good way to go. They just need to get a new person to be in charge of the reports. And during the start of the call it sounds like they have done just that (I think the ER guy left). Prudent but out of touch with today's hyper markets.

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

Today, $AKAM is trading at $115, down 10.54% in the past 5 days from $127. This downward trend was triggered by the Q4 earnings where the company reported for the quarter ending Dec 31. Earnings per share rose 23% to $1.69 (beat) per adjusted share. Revenue climbed 7% to $995 million (miss). Analysts expected earnings of $1.60 a share on revenue of $999 million. What's not really known is the guidance for future growth as Akamai's newly launched Generalized edge compute (Gecko) product is a wild card. The company is poised to cement itself as a key platform in enterprise multicloud environments as current industry architectures treat cloud and edge networks separately. Gecko has been designed to be quickly deployed on top of Akamai's existing worldwide edge network (365,000 servers deployed in more than 135 countries). LONG Calls 0621 $135 (30 - 40Buys) - positions ready for a bullish run. Based on technical charting and fundamentals there will be nothing stopping it. Downside risk is purely macro conditions. Thoughts?

Signal sciences is garbage and that acquisition hasn’t paid off. Their offering is niche in the CDN space and outclassed by NET, not to mention very expensive. It ran up the same amount as NET but failed to produce the same results. Questionable growth in a crowded CDN market ahead, which isn’t anything new for FSLY based on their previous earnings. They have virtually 0 penetration in the European or Asian markets. Compare that to AKAM and NET.

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

Pro-tip - you could see FSLY was going to tank from a mile away by going to subreddits that discussed CDNs and looking at what devs said. They absolutely loved what NET offered (specifically the Worker) but had a lot of negative stuff to say about AKAM and FSLY. In fact there were a ton of mentions about their companies switching away from FSLY also. Algos also scrape certain subreddits to get sentiments on companies and their products and see how they change over time

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

Probably not. FSLY is probably going to go the way of ANET, DDOG, GDDY, AKAM. Even if the earnings is good it’ll dump. TWLO is the only one of these I have hope for atm

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

You could get lucky. It’s risky though. You. At be right, I may be right. I think anet, GDDY. And AKAM were indicators of what fsly will do. The iv crush tomorrow will be insane. I also think it’ll go down. I got some 21$ puts

I’m gonna make my own call here for the record. 1. Don’t play UPWK, both options will get rekt 2. Crox will go down, even on a slight beat on earnings. I bet earnings will be slight bad though 3. FSLY will follow suit of ANET, Godaddy, and AKAM. It will probably have a good earnings beat, decent guidance and the stock will still tank 5-10%. Then maybe recover back to where it is. Tech service stocks are getting bullied except for a few loud outliers 4. QS will probably go up, but I’m not sure it’ll go up enough to cover that IV. There is wayyyy more calls loaded up this Friday then puts. Much more open interest on calls at 9 and 10. I might actually inverse everyone one of your plays tonight just to see if it works. Except upwk I ain’t touching that.

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

Why? Maybe 25 if lucky but it’ll probably barely move or get crushed. Did you see ANET, GDDY, AKAM? Fsly will probably dive even if the earnings are good

AKAM is experiencing a fundamental revaluation. It's maximum market size is on the order of magnitude larger, and thanks to their Linode acquisition a couple of years ago, it is readily accessible and is probably now fully integrated into their systems. 2/13 is their release date. I'm hoping for a spike.... but it's true that you never know for sure. Maybe a plane falls on the CEO tomorrow.

Mentions:#AKAM
r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

I would do AKAM before CCOI. And AKAM seems like a solid bet, but I have no idea how the call will go. There was an ER when they gave a super conservative forecast and the stock tanked for no good reason, but that was super early in Linode days. I think they were adjusting for the cost of the acquisition, and wall street kept them in the CDN category instead of moving them to a "cloud services" company. Now that their "cloud service" status is more settled perhaps they will talk more about futures regarding it which could be a big boost with the India partnership. Of course, it can always go either way, but I am betting on AKAM for their ER on 2/16. The stock has appreciated quite a bit (yay) but who knows how much that will contribute to post-ER movement? AMD tanked because of their crazy P/E number, and lack-luster GPU-related report. Kind of reminds me of that one AKAM report. Hopefully AMD isn't too late in the game to benefit from their better-than-nvidia benchmarks (for non-proprietary software). I lost on AMD this time around too... thought the GPU benchmarks beating nvidia would lead to more data center agreements but perhaps they are a bit too late in the game for that. I'd recommend CCOI only as a potential sleeper with a far-off expiry date. For now AKAM is looking like the best option imo... though wider market swings (e.g. interest rates, warring world, unease, etc.) may keep AKAM more stale than expected. I would be surprised though if it dropped significantly.

r/stocksSee Comment

I know I’m late to the party. But I bought 10 AKAM calls at .25 per. DOE is 2/16…yesterday the volatility was nuts. Sent from .23 to 1.30 in 3 mins…. I guess I’m asking any opinions on the stock recently? I’ll be glued to my account tomorrow to see if I can sell at a high number.

Added to the post: >\- AKAM $115 Call exp 06/21 (4 buys) > >\- AKAM $110 Call exp 02/16 (11 buys) > >\- CCOI $85 Call exp 02/16 (3 buys) > >\- CVX $152.5 Call exp 02/23 (3 buys) > >\- AMD $165 Call exp 02/02 (1 buy) CCOI was a newbie trade when I made it... there was like no volume and I paid $0.85 for those. I am debating whether or not to make a more calls with a more distant expiry but right now almost everything is in AKAM.

Evening ER lottos with reasons: AKAM 120C 11/17 - Why the fuck not? GILD 75P 11/10 - Why the fuck wouldn't it? DVN 51C 12/1 - It's obvious, right?

> if you bought at or near the top with a lump sum, then added nothing for more than 2 decades. > the Nikkei is always the boogeyman example in these conversations because it’s basically the only example to point at for that happening. Basically, except for the Nasdaq. Look at a long-term chart of the QQQ - if you lump summed QQQ in 2000, you waited 17 years just to break even. Same timeframe for its most promising, "top tier" constituents: MSFT, QCOM, INTC, etc. CSCO is still 40% off the high, AKAM still down 70%, 23 years later.

You forgot to mention all of the world class hires they’ve made. Erik and the Amazon sales guys are top tier. The APO guys joined the board just prior to restatement and haven’t had a chance to have much impact. APO took stock in EGIO when they did the edgecast deal. IFCR it was in the mid $4 range at the time of close. They also contributed $30m in cash to the b/s. EGIO also has NOL’s which expire in the next few years but are valuable if the company regains profitability relatively soon. No near term maturities. $APO is sitting on 80-90% loss less than 2 years in. I’m sure they did the math last year related to the cash burn, churn, restatement costs and higher prospective financing costs, etc et. I don’t believe they would have brought in all this top talent (at what cost we don’t know yet) if they weren’t focused on recouping their loss and making back their massive loss. They would spend time and resources elsewhere and just written it off. This investment at closing was a fraction of a fraction of their AUM. They see something here. Additionally, APO still has a shot at earning an adtl $100m in earnout payments (I’ll be it a remote one but still not a zero % chance either). My hope is they add a few more top tier executives from the industry, with the right relationships - Erik Black was a huge win. They need more like they. They should also reconstitute the board. There are a few legacy BOD members who are just professional board members and have no real revenant at industry experience. Replace them with with some people that do have the right experience and contacts. The board members should all be required to own stock in the company. Not just some token amount they sell every year.. Real skin in the game. They have two rubber stampers that have been there forever that just need to go imho. Ajay got 12x revenue for his company then sold the stock. He bought back in st higher prices but does own the most stock of any of the mgmt team. I wonder if he is really the right guy to do the intervention of the two? And how has the company he sold to them done relative to what was promised when they bought it. Imho he’s solid, but I’m not sold on him being the right CTO to turn this around. He’s sort of had his chance, wouldn’t you say? To that end, Where iare alex and james (edgecast founder)s these days anyway? Last I heard they sold their latest company to MSI but I’m not sure if they’re working or not? They are really smart guys. There are also other ceo types who come from the industry who if they are incentivized correctly, and see a real opportunity for net worth creation, could be talked into an advisory position. It’s all just at what cost. In sum, the board and management has made progress but still lack a leadership team with the industry experience imho to right this ship given the stregenth exhibited by the competitor’s recently (FSLY and AKAM crushed earnings). They need to realign the mgmt incentives with targets that require them to grow shareholder value and throw the old guys off the board for some news guys who add strategic value. They should focus on using AI/ML to build a better offering that can “learn” on its own to be more efficient for customers. They should shift their product mix towards higher margin SaaS security asap and start focusing on ER’s vs the way a legacy CDN does. By reporting in ways that SaaS business do (ARR/NRR) this is what gets the street excited and how you can get large multiples ascribed to the predictability of ARR vs lower multiples typical of valuing a legacy CDN. I love asymmetric payoffs, this has the makings of one, but there is a huge amount of wood to chop between here and there. Not advice, just some dingdong from reeditt expressing a personal opinion, and what do I know lol anyway. $APO are you listening?

I agree, writing puts is decent. What stocks have you been writing margin secured puts on? I've done $DIS $AKAM $INTC $DPZ $CCJ and a few more this year.

Opened my first long in months. AKAM looks underpriced in an environment where they can start selling cloud compute.

You are very welcome. The fact that AKAM used $900 million to purchase Linode when they have all that debt due makes no sense in my opinion. I understand the appeal of the cloud however there are several gazillion-dollar companies in the sector that they will have to now compete with.

It's just interesting how much the market loves NET or AKAM. AKAM is not a bad business by any means. I'm a software engineer and I'm so bullish on physical cloud plays rather than going after any providers or parts of the cloud. Long ANET, SMCI and NVT. I do agree though, the demand for cloud computing is only going up. Some of the bigger names like AWS/Azure look to be slowing, but we are seeing strong numbers of cloud providers, like even IBM is seeing double digit cloud growth. Even CSCO had a double beat and guidance raise.

Can anyone explain why AKAM is down more than 10% despite beating all earnings expectations?
