Putting 75% into one holding was the first mistake. Diversifying is important. But FWIW I think we ALL have tried to catch a second win on a stock that ended up failing. After years and years of trading I’ve learned how important it is to MOVE ON to another stock and not buy back in 😅 doesn’t matter what it looks like, it always goes south the second time somehow, lol. If you’re not drawing funds in the near future then really you don’t need to stress today. It’s only stressful when you actually sell it. I have one I’ve been bag holding since 2021 actually, and by this stage 4yrs later it’s such a SMALL amount of the account now. All other ones have cleared out in the last 4-5 years, that’s the only one I’m still holding. I don’t even think about it anymore actually. It really showed that down the line this will just be a sliver of the bigger pot waiting later. This can be a very good initial lesson that helps shape your investing future! u/owenmills04 sorry didn't see this. basically the MOVE (top chart) is telling us interest rate uncertainty is getting lower which is overall good for the stock market) Small companies are affected more by rates because higher cost to operate their business which every penny counts. So even though that cost has been going up slightly, Small companies are like that's ok because i know in the next few years things are likely to be good. so you see small companies have been ripping. Now as all this happens, this Greenland Tariff situation has probably moved markets to a risk off mode now. You will probably see the MOVE index tick up meaning now uncertainty is going up. I'll note 2 things. This is just 1 technical indicator to many indicators out there. and with the trump regime I've noticed rate indicators tend to move slower than equity markets so you might see equity markets chop around or move opposite of the move index in the short term. Whoa hold your horses and don’t do anything hastily and especially based on “advice” from Reddit. While what everyone here is saying is correct, ie be more active and find low cost index funds, THE WAY YOU EXECUTE the plan has to be well thought out. Because we only have limited information, WHAT YOU SHOULD DO depends on having a complete picture. As far as I can tell, you are in some kind of tax advantaged annuity so you really need to make sure you move out of it judiciously so avoid any potential capital gains tax or penalties. Unfortunately, you will need someone who has access to information about your funds and the knowledge base to recommend HOW TO MOVE your money. Especially given your lack of any financial literacy (not meant as an insult it’s just a statement of fact) you want someone like a FA to help you move the funds into an appropriate account type (I’m assuming this is a tax advantaged retirement fund so you’d need an IRA of some type) Again don’t do anything hastily because the money spent on an advisor to help you move the funds (or if you already pay for it through ML and they are fiduciaries) will be well worth it in terms of preventing a VERY costly taxable event and/or penalties!

I'm more of a $150-$300 a day profit kinda guy so this hurts and will take a while to recover from. Luckily for me this isn't my full time job and I am still up for the year. So, I guess I can't complain to much as I only gave back the market money, not my own.

MOVE went through the roof this morning. I'd been holding shares for months with a limit sell at $9. I was thrilled to see that it finally broke out of the $6 range and sold at market open. That sucker is halted at over $13 now. I'm more than happy with my little profit, but I'm wondering what triggered the spike. Something I missed in the news cycle?

Here’s the real kicker to Trump’s tariff agenda: 1. the goal is to incentivize investment in US manufacturing. 2. For tariffs to be an incentive, investors in factories/domestic producers need to believe those tariffs are going to STAY IN PLACE. It takes 5 to 7 years to break even with the initial investment (ballpark average) and longer to significantly profit. 3. The tariffs were put in place via executive order, and can be removed by executive order. Numerous examples of this happening so far. And the expectation that a democratic president would remove most of them. 4. So if breaking even with an investment takes longer than Trump’s tenure, and you needed that tariff to be able to compete… why would you bother to make that investment in a US factory? 5. If the tariffs were passed via legislation… there would be an expectation of semi-permanence. We don’t have that. They’re all passed by presidential decree (and frequently revoked that way). 6. Furthermore! Factories, mines, materials processing… doing any of this at scale takes a lot of labor… willing to MOVE TO wherever you want to build. Immigrants are the most likely to move… but they are being deported en masse. You can’t simultaneously deport massive numbers of mobile laborers AND have a manufacturing boom. Note that unemployment is also VERY LOW! Not many people are even looking for jobs! Thus, tariffs are not *significantly* incentivizing investment in US industry. The tariffs just increase the prices of imports, and thus the price. The only good thing that can be said about them is that they raise tax revenue. But this tax revenue ultimately comes from price increases on consumer goods. Effectively becoming a tax on consumption. Taxing consumption (which is already constrained due to inflation) further reduces consumer demand, reducing aggregate demand, thus harming incentives for direct investment.
