I have been DCAing many mineral mining stocks like HL, CDE, AEM and the like. Recently got into energy ETFs like PHO and VDE. also WM is always good to DCA in my opinion. That said, I decided to sell all my tech stock (42 NVDA and AMD, RIGHT before the AMD spike over $200=(....... But I moved a lot of that capital into my Robinhood account where I've been DCAing all those I mentioned (and some I didn't) PLUS selling options on TSLL. Been getting 10%/month on average since August so.... Can't complain yet

I felt pretty happy in uitilities the last 3 months rotating but now I'm realizing they'll probably take a beating (energy anyway) from reduced future usage when the phantom datacenters in the sky don't materialize. they'll still be making money and still pay a dividend at least. I recommend water. PHO and CGW.

The global bottled water market is projected to grow from $292.6 billion in 2025 to $509 billion by 2030, driven by rising demand for clean water, health-conscious consumers, and sustainability trends. Major players like Nestlé, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and Danone dominate, but Primo Water (PRMW) offers a focused investment opportunity with strong growth potential. This DD explores why water stocks are worth considering, with a focus on Primo Water as a high-potential pick, alongside safer options like Coca-Cola and water-focused ETFs. **Why Invest in Bottled Water?** The bottled water market is a stable, growing sector with strong fundamentals: Market Growth: The global bottled water market is expected to grow at a 6.4% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2025 to 2030, reaching $509 billion. Still water (74% of the market) and sparkling water (7.9% CAGR) are both expanding, driven by health trends and demand in emerging markets. Consumer Trends: Consumers are shifting from sugary drinks to bottled water, with U.S. per capita consumption rising from 31.6 gallons in 2013 to 46.4 gallons in 2023. Global Demand: Over 2.2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, boosting demand in Asia-Pacific (44.5% market share) and developing regions. Climate and Urbanization: Water scarcity and urban growth are increasing reliance on bottled water, especially in regions with unreliable tap water. **Major Players in the Market** The bottled water market is competitive, with four major companies holding significant shares and a large "others" category including private labels and regional players. Here’s the breakdown: Nestlé (NSRGY): Estimated 20–25% global market share. Brands include Nestlé Pure Life, Perrier, and San Pellegrino. North America accounts for ~56% of its water sales. Nestlé’s planning to spin off its water business in 2025, which could impact its exposure but create a new investment opportunity. Dividend yield: ~3%. Coca-Cola (KO): Estimated 15–20% share, led by Dasani (12% of still water), Smartwater, and Topo Chico. A defensive stock with a 2.86% dividend yield and a $305 billion market cap, backed by Berkshire Hathaway’s $27.6 billion stake. PepsiCo (PEP): Estimated 10–15% share with Aquafina and LIFEWTR. Water is a smaller part of its portfolio (58% of revenue from snacks), but innovations like carbon capture bottling add upside. Dividend yield: ~3%. Danone (DANOY): Estimated 10–15% share, with premium brands like Evian and Volvic. Strong in Europe and focused on sustainable packaging. Dividend yield: ~3.5%. Others (~35%): Includes private labels (25–30% of the market), Nongfu Spring (China), Bisleri (India), and smaller players like Primo Water. **Investment Pick: Primo Water (PRMW)** For a targeted bet on the bottled water market, Primo Water (PRMW) stands out as a high-growth, pure-play option: Overview: Primo Water is a North American company focused on bottled water and dispensers, with $1.77 billion in 2023 revenue (5% growth) and 20% adjusted EBITDA margins. Why Invest: Unlike diversified giants like Coca-Cola or PepsiCo, Primo is 100% focused on water, making it a direct play on market growth. Its stock price is ~$27 (June 2025), up 50% year-to-date, with analyst targets of $30–$35 by end of 2026. Growth is driven by acquisitions, office reopenings, and demand for reusable water jugs. Catalysts: Rising health consciousness and corporate demand for water coolers are boosting sales. Primo’s focus on sustainability (e.g., reusable containers) aligns with consumer and regulatory trends. Risks: High debt from acquisitions could be a concern if interest rates remain elevated. Private labels (25% market share) are also a competitive threat, but Primo’s brand loyalty and B2B contracts provide stability. **Alternative Investment Options ** Large-Cap Stocks: Coca-Cola (KO) and PepsiCo (PEP) offer stability, dividends, and exposure to water alongside broader portfolios. Coca-Cola’s scale and Buffett’s backing make it a safer bet for conservative investors. Water ETFs: Invesco Water Resources ETF (PHO, 0.60% expense ratio) and First Trust Water ETF (FIW) provide diversified exposure to water-related companies, including purification and delivery. Both have outperformed the S&P 500 over the past decade. Utilities: American Water Works (AWK) is the largest U.S. water utility, with $944 million in 2023 net income and a 2.1% dividend yield. Its stock (~$130) has grown 500% since its 2008 IPO, offering low-risk exposure. Options: For higher risk, PRMW January 2026 $30 calls (~$2.50) offer leverage if the stock hits analyst targets. Coca-Cola or PepsiCo options are less volatile but still provide upside. **Macro Tailwinds for 2025** Population and Urbanization: The global population is nearing 8.5 billion, with 3–4 billion lacking reliable tap water. Urban growth and tourism (1.3 billion international arrivals in 2023) drive bottled water demand. Sustainability Trends: Companies are shifting to recycled PET and aluminum cans (7% CAGR), addressing environmental concerns and appealing to ESG investors. Economic Resilience: Bottled water is a consumer staple, maintaining demand during economic downturns. Stocks like KO and AWK are defensive plays in volatile markets. **Risks to Consider** Environmental Regulations: Bottled water companies face scrutiny for plastic pollution. Potential bans on single-use plastics could raise costs, though firms are adapting with sustainable packaging. Private Label Competition: Store brands hold 25–30% of the market, pressuring margins for branded players. Nestlé’s Spinoff: The potential sale of Nestlé’s water business (~$5.5 billion valuation) could disrupt its market position or create a new stock to watch. Interest Rates: Higher rates could impact debt-heavy companies like Primo Water or utilities like AWK. Conclusion The bottled water market offers a compelling investment opportunity due to its growth, driven by health trends, water scarcity, and sustainability efforts. Primo Water (PRMW) is a high-potential pick for those seeking focused exposure, while Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and ETFs like PHO provide safer options. With the market set to grow significantly by 2030, now’s a good time to consider water-related investments. Disclaimer: no shit this is generated by AI

I've been looking at a play on water infrastructure because of all this, but I haven't done any proper DD beyond a bit into PHO. The idea is they need ultra pure water to make these chips and we're ramping up production domestically while also the water table is struggling, so it suggests water related stuff will go up local to the new fab plants in the US, but you also have to rope in like DuPont because they make ultra pure water for fab plants, so it gets complex and I kinda walked away from it.

> which isn't insignificant. It is almost totally insignificant. > performance by those numbers, but it may or may not be worth the expense Performance is net expense ratio. Looking backward, the difference has been totally worth it without the slightest doubt. You are confusing yourself by looking at the CAGR numbers. If you are longterm holding, you need to consider the cumulative results. Here is a Google chart for five years, it doesn't include dividends, but that shouldn't change things much in this case. https://www.google.com/finance/quote/PHO:NASDAQ?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiYj8uV5OiGAxVkLkQIHR0YBrEQ3ecFegQIKhAX&window=5Y&comparison=NYSEARCA%3AEBLU There is a gigantic 60% performance difference between the two. Except the 50% higher expense ratio, which isn't insignificant. I'm not seeing as huge of a difference in performance either. For PHO vs EBLU I see 5 year: +15.41% / +12.4%, 3 year: +8.14% / +3.47%, and 1 year: +27.94% / +23.9%. PHO went from 35.97 to 66.39, +185% over the last 5 years, while EBLU went from 30.77 to 46.87, +152% over the same. PHO definitely has a bit better performance by those numbers, but it may or may not be worth the expense ratio. I'm not doubting you, but I'm curious where you're seeing the +165% vs +109%.

Mentions:#PHO#EBLU
r/investingSee Comment

PHO and FIW have outperformed EBLU since its inception 165%/158% to 109%. So both PHO and FIW have done about the same as SPY in that timeframe while EBLU has way underperformed. Additionally EBLU has very low volume, 3000ish a day, versus the other two at 57k/27k. Every aspect of PHO is better.

I purchased PHO, an ETF. It seems to perform OK, I'm up 20% after owning for nearly 2 years... most of that gain has been since November 2023. It invests in water companies and infrastructure companies... it isn't investing solely to capitalize on the diminishing resource theory.

It's most likely a C02 extraction, as that won't leave behind any residual solvent material as an EHO (Ethanol) or hydrocarbon extraction (BHO or PHO Bitane Nd Propane) which needs to be purged in special vacuum chambers for 3 days. Solventless takes way too much plant material vs the yeild it releases, and solventless is to capture terpene percentage. They state their products will have 4% terpenes, which is great, but a solventless extract would yield a much higher terpene content (The old adage, " the juice isn't worth the squeeze) C02 is safer to use, no need for a vacuum hood during extraction. Then they just add in their "patened" blend of terpenes and viola, a million dollar company? Nothing to see here.

I've been interested in this, too, seeing the same signs you are. One of the things that first peaked my interest in it was at the end of the movie The Big Short, it's says that Burry was getting interested in water. I have no clue if he still is or what he might be invested in, but I see the need and potential of it in the future, regardless. For the record, I'm in PHO, though I might pick out some individual stocks at some point. And it's just my "play" brokerage account, so not a lot. I just DCA a share or two each year.

How are you valuing PHO to say it is undervalued? If you look at the top 10 holdings of these ETFs, the majority of them are overvalued on a DCF basis. Water, like petroleum is an essential commodity, but it's just that, a commodity. What moats could these companies develop to create high margins if everyone can pump it out of the ground or take it from the air or desalinate it from the ocean? Given its essential nature, governments are very likely to limit water prices for public good, like they do with internet companies, housing, or gasoline. If i'm investing in a company, I don't want them to be hamstrung by the government on how much they can charge. These ETFs aren't exactly cheap either, with PIO's expense ratio at .60%. Compare this to the performance of Vanguard's MGK for example, 136% over 5 years, with an expense ratio of .05%.

Secondly, my advice for you would be to cut down most of these stocks and stick with solid etfs such as S&P, VTI, VOO or QQQ. Agriculture has been beaten down this year and has yet to make new highs or even bounce back considerably. MOO and FTAG have very cheap holdings. WEAT is a commodity play that's similar Water as expressed in PHO has done very well but pricey valuation I think physical resources including minerals will do well in general. And emerging markets have already started their rise as dollar weakens and rates fall, some on the backs of their resource-rich economies. Some impressive runs this year: Mexico, India, Colombia, even Brazil I also like MJ. Long base made there. Longer the base, higher in space Broad green energy PBW with a lot of semi-shitcos (just unproven and not profitable) also not a bad play if small cap spec continues to rise in 2024 Finally, China. Shunned and spurned in 2023. Simply too cheap, even with risk factored in. KBA and KURE are the more pure-play China plays than KWEB IMO

Dump the SPHD. It's not remotely a peer of the others. As others have said VOO and VTI are very similar. No harm in having both but for your case probably just having VTI is better (tho if I had to choose for me I'd take VOO). PHO of course is a longterm no-brainer winner, but of course no one knows if the win wil be bigger than VTI going forward. VDE... there are lots of energy ETFs and while VDE is above average it has lagged a lot of the other choices like IEO and PXE. Don't just choose a Vanguard ETF if you use them. Take a look at all the competing energy ETFs. That have very significant differences.

Dividend focus: Earn compound interest by divident reinvestment. Sector bets: PHO & VDE - As the world population grows, I strongly believe water will be one of the scarce resources in the next couple of decades, rivers are drying up, tensions between some of the central asian countries are rising because of inaccessibility to water, climate change effects etc. Energy is a similar situation, we are very dependent on electricity especially now that we’re evolving into this “AI” driven world. So you explicitly stated that they don't alter your DNA and I am showing you a study where there is a possibility that they do. Now being aware of this information as a medical professional, if you were asked by a patient, would you continue to say with certainty that they don't? Regarding Dr. Bridle's info, no outcome was provided for 238 pregnancies. Outcomes will never be known for 88% (238/270) of the adverse event reports that involved pregnancies. How could they possibly have thought it ethical to recommend to pregnant women with so much data missing?? Only one out of the 29 pregnancies that they had data on resulted in a 'normal' outcome. 28 out of 29 babies they did have outcomes for died. That isn't just 'it happened to one guy'. As far as covid deaths in Canada since the roll out and up until August 28, 2022, there have been 3730 deaths of people with primary doses completed, 4830 with primary +1 booster and 780 with primary + 2 or more. There are 10,763 deaths in the unvaccinated. Now keep in mind, they include people who have only had one dose as well as people who have been recently vaccinated (in the last 21 days, which is when most of the severe effects/deaths would occur- 98.2% of breakthrough cases happened during this time frame in BC) as unvaccinated. So more vaccinated Canadians died than unvaccinated during that time period. So much for preventing severe outcomes, I guess. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1257040/number-covid-deaths-canada-by-vaccination-status/ http://news.gov.bc.ca/files/20210513_PHO-Presentation.pdf Of course there are many medications that doctors regularly prescribe have unacceptable side effects and no that isn't ok but that isn't what is being discussed here. All I know is that if I were a medical professional who has been avidly supporting these up until this point, I would certainly be taking a long hard look at the data coming out and listening to the professional opinions of those who aren't on the payroll because it isn't going to be a matter of 'I was just doing my job and listening to the science' when the time comes to hold those responsible accountable. Just a thought.

PHO is the only water ETF with over 100k volume a day. Next is FIW with 60k volume. Both are up about 40% for the past three years and down about 11% for the year, so not great world beaters. Better to try and make your own basket of water stocks. Start with CWCO... which isn't even a part of either ETF, but is a water pure play that is up 78% for the past six months.

ETFs in my 401(K) and IRA. In my individual account? That’s boring. That’s where I want to take increased risk. I have a couple of ETFs in it (BOTZ, PHO) but the rest are individual holdings and hopefully more of them 10-20x then don’t.
