Someone else asked me a very similar question, so I'm gonna copy my response: Obviously I am not an analysist, but to answer that question from what I can see while the stock market is doing good, the stock market isn't the economy. Yes tech companies are at or near all time highs, but the entire economy can not be sustained by the TOP 10 (and realistically right now, the top AI companies doing circular trade). American household debt is at an all time high, along with student loan defaults, and over 50% of America is paycheck to paycheck. Record numbers of small business closures. On top of that the president has openly threatened the bureau of labor statistics, and it's very likely the numbers we're getting aren't accurate. That's not even going into the "trade war," of tariffs that are shooting ourselves in the foot, and our allies looking to find alternatives to trade with us. On top of that as well I see with my own eyes, and online the sentiment in people my age and younger, the inability to hit traditional financial milestones, own a house, start families, and invest. All of this on my eyes does not fare well for the American economy, and puts us in a powderkeg state. So in regards to my sentiment, the stock market and large companies are doing great, but that doesn't translate to what truly drives the American economy: The American people. And from my POV (again, not an analysist) this facade is being held together by economic and politically duck tape/glue, and can only hold for so long

Traded on a PROP DESK - RISK/ARB---we also had a FICC desk, Principal Strategies, Global Macro X FICC, A seperate Cross Currencies,and 3 other Desk were essentially HFT desk, Two desk were combined and joined our Asset Management side. The difference between today's Prop desk is that today's are Girly Versions of a Prop. We were not restricted to only day trading like today and we were not retricted to equities. We traded what ever we wanted. The really cool part was that we were in a glass enclosed room, seperate security cards and entrance, on the 4th floor of our building and the totality of all the desk was a CITY BLOCK The execution of the PROP Desk was after the Volker rule went into affect. It was designed to strip all Prop Desk from firms in 2010 but was finally accomplished by the end of 2013. The general purpose was to have every trading desk a part of the Firms RWA calculation. No longer can you have an OFF balance Sheet Desk, or any exposure like CMO Tranches you did not sell just sitting on a Blotter and not counted as a risk. This all came about when Basel 1 and Basel 2 came into affect and you needed, most of the time, to count them as a Risk to Capital and not just OH BY THE WAY WE ALSO OWN THIS.  IN 2008 we were significantly short ML< SLH< AIG< NATWEST, WASHINGTON MUTUAL, MBS INDEX, COUNTRYWIDE , and long as possible CDS. While we were long CDS the regular firm was selling them to the Street on a BIG SCALE. Since we could not deal directly with the our Firm we were buying them from a 3rd party. We were trading the firms money not customer , client money so there we were not guided by any SEC or FINRA regulations. I was short 10's and 2yr Treasuries on a GRAND SCALE, long MBS pools that were made before 1999, short anything that had Adjustable Rate Mortgages associacted , indexed or was in the security. Generally speaking ,on the firms books, you were expected to be hedged against your position. NOT us , we went unhedged which at times was dangerous. It was fun, educational,tense,required constant attention, and was usually on the desk from 6am to 9-10pm at night. Exepting FRIDAY's , our desk had a reasonably strict rule on FRDIAY -EVERYONE imcluding OPs, trading, and trade support , or anyone associated with the desk be gone by 7PM. How is that mis information?? No one is saying these targeting caused the market to risk-off or dump. No one is saying this caused the broader market sell-off of high beta stocks man. You are not reading anything we are saying. this ACCELERATED the sell-off towards the end of Leopold's TOP POSITIONS (SNDK, NBIS, BE) IN PARTICULAR. Again this TARGETING DID NOT CAUSE THE BROADER SELL-OFF. No one is saying that. There was already blood in the water, Leopold was in the midst of de-risking his positions because of the BROADER MARKET SELL-OFF. When Funds smelled in the blood in the water and figured out who it was coming from THEN they targeted in (not in a coordinated manner, and it could have been 1 or multiple funds). That is why responding to the initial comment, Leopold's top positions in particular after the selling pressure was over, shot up over 3X what the general AI sector shot up.

This drove the initial sell-off yes no one is saying the shorting caused the crash. I am not sure you are reading what everyone is actually saying here. The initial comment was "It’s wild that everything skyrocketed the day that he was forced to sell it. I don’t understand why he had to sell all of it." All momentum stocks were falling, but Leopold's top positions were falling at an accelerated rate due to the shorting. Our responses to this initial comment on why Leopold's stocks skyrocketed the day he was forced to sell, is because these positions were being targetted on TOP of existing macro sell-off & rotations. That is why, if you look back to the day of the sell-off, you will notice his top 3 positions bounced back over 30% (SNDK, BE, NBIS), where as the broader AI sector companies only bounced back around 5 - 15%.

So at a critical point, ~250 million barrels are to be protected/saved/designated to the U.S Military ONLY (meaning no more drawing to suppress prices) and they also have to factor the ~70 million barrels worth of oil needed to keep the caves from collapsing while withdrawing.  This puts us a critical factor of ~320million barrels of a safety floor, because if the military where to go to a full scale war *cough*, and they happen to need all that fuel, they could risk collapsing the cave and losing 70 million barrels worth of their 243 million barrel ownership. So, with the SPR at 316.5 million barrels as of the last EIA report, (Department of energy updates it on Monday which is listed as less accurate, but its within ~1% of what gets posted to the EIA report on wednesdays) And later today we get to see if we are still depleting 6 million+ barrels like the past month, or only 3 million barrels or less like last week. Either way, we are in a functional critical state of oil reserves, and if we deplete to the near 250 million barrel mark, we will be in an actual physical critical state of oil reserves with no more wiggle room or oil price suppression from drawing from the SPR. They put 42 days left in the post for us being in the red zone, but we are already there right now in the event we go to war and the military needs fuel *cough*

So I did my screener experiment yesterday, my pick was TOP at 2.25 which is up about 10% since I picked it. No one in here called it. Not the biggest gain bet considering I have been losing a lot recently, that's a plus. Gonna try this for a week or two without making any trades and see how many I can win.
